Thank you for your calm and informative tutorial on making a dress maker's dummy. Another way to save a few more pennies is to recycle old shoulder pads and pillow/cushion inserts. The shoulder pads in particular are great for this kind of thing as they have the curved shape to start with. Also, for the bust shaping, an old bra you no longer wear makes the adjustments just that little bit easier,,, plus you can get a better individual boob shape instead of a mono-boob. An old one piece swimsuit or leotard makes a good, firm and stretchy under-cover... recycle whatever and wherever you can to save a few pennies/dollars to put towards a nicer outer fabric...🙂 🙃🐨🇦🇺
I pinned your comment to the top so everyone who wants to do something similar can see the tips! I hope that’s ok for you :) thank you for sharing them 🥰
I have been searching for ways to pad my display mannequin and found her video and your tips very helpful. Took a screenshot of it. Time to gather my supplies 😊.
I know you were nervous about posting this video but you had no reason to be! It was as calming and serene as your others and I really enjoy getting to see and learn more about what goes into your studio.
This is the how to video I have been waiting my entire sewing journey for ! A real, professional, yet cost effective method. I can't thank you enough !
Thank you so much! I looked into a lot of ways to make them, but with most of them I was scared they would turn out wobbly or loose shape over time - this way worked really well and I’m happy I can help with sharing it! 🥰
What's so incredible to me about this video is how you got so much information in a short 15 minutes. It's packed full of lessons that make me feel this both achievable and aspirational. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for this tutorial, Freda! I had a pattern prepared by Bootstrap Fashion for my measurements, but I overstuffed it to less than perfect. Your instructions are clear and calm so I recognized where I did wrong by hurrying to finish it. I will try to correct it by making a second dress form. Your videos are encouraging and slowing me down so I can enjoy the process and not rush to the finish line ASAP.
Thank you so much! I’m glad I could motivate you to tackle it again 🥰 I hope your next project turns out how you want it and that you can really enjoy the process!
I am new to garment sewing and have discovered to my dismay that I am not at all what the pattern companies had in mind when drafting their patterns. So now, after sewing only one garment and having a wild fitting fail with the second, I am going to make a dressform. Thank you for this beautiful video and for the wonderful inspiration! I also went to your website and am amazed by your incredibly beautiful creations - I wish you much success! Edit: I am now mostly done with the padding out of my form and am about to draft a pattern for the cover. Thanks again for this wonderful video - I am watching it over and over and am super inspired!
thank you so much for sharing ! I will move next month to an apartment where I will finally have a proper sewing space and I can’t wait to have a dressform, I am so thankful for this tutorial ! 🖤
I was actually thinking about buying one of these adjustable dressforms because the one i have is just too small for me. but seeing your video now, I think I will just take that smaller dressform and fit it to my size like you did. what a brilliant idea!
We'll, I'm so happy that TH-cam brought you to me because I am riveted by your skill. The quiet way you work along with the easy music is an absolute joy. I have been sewing for 50 years and I am learning some techniques from you. I has to adjust my custom made dress form a few years ago and I wish I had seen your video first. It's a lot of work what you did but it came out beautifully. Your production of the video is so lovely as well. Lighting, music etc... Thank you from the US❤️
What an awesome way to do a customized dress 👗 form. I like the way where you lay the steps systematically. There are no shortcut in this - your style of work is very smart! It is instantaneously doubles-up as the basis for new garments. save so much time to start from scratch!
This is another amazing video/tutorial! I appreciate you sharing a little bit of your process with us and greatly look forward to more like this, especially if you could share about your pattern papers (regular and tracing), marking pens & pencils, pattern storage. You continue to inspire me to greater heights and to slow down and enjoy the process ❣️🥰💙👏👏👏
Thank you! 🥰 I will definitely make a video about pattern making and everything I use for it! The process is the best about sewing I think, so I’m glad I could help you to enjoy it more 🥰
This was hugely helpful! I need a new dress form so badly, and this method feels very much within my set of skills. The idea of using different density of foams to mirror the softer parts of the body is just brilliant. Thank you so much for walking us through this.
i never watch a video the whole way through without getting bored. you are so delicate and lovely to watch sew, and so helpful at teaching! thank you for this video, it will be one of the most helpful videos i have ever seen. again thank you!!!
Finally its here❤ There are very few tutorials out there making a mannequin but not good enough to convince myself to roll up my own sleeves. Now i am already sewing 🏃♀️
the relaxing music, your calming and intuitive way of giving instructions, and the overall quality of the knowledge that you passed down in this video is just awesome! Bravo Freda! I truly hope you keep making videos.
Another wonderful video by you! I recently padded out a mannequin for myself. This video has given me better ideas about what to fix in my first attempt.
Your method of storing your patterns is Exactly what I have been looking for! I currently have mine folded, binder clipped, and stacked however I have been trying to find a better method and this is It for me! I appreciate your work so much as an experienced but still self taught sewist. I always learn something new from you, even if small, and you inspire me often while I design my own projects🫶
I'm so grateful that you've shared this information in such a beautiful way! I would love it if you spoke a bout how you film your videos! They are so aesthetic!
Thank you so much for this video💕. I am a plus size lady and i have my old mannequin but my body has changed over the years. I had no idea how to make my dress form to my current size. And your voice is so calming. Thank you again ❤❤
Great video! I bought a dress form some years ago, when I got a good deal on it. Somehow, my body changed and the dress form is not me anymore. Would LOVE to try to modify it so I can actually use it again. Your video has inspired me! I've never seen this done before!
This video was super helpful. So well-presented, and many great pointers. This video, Along with the comments, I feel confident to finally shape my mannequin to my size. Thank you!
This is awesome! I’ve been wanting to do this for years. I have an adjustable dress form but it is quite a bit smaller than me so it needs a lot of adjustments Your instructions are so helpful! Thank you for sharing!
This was a fantastic video. I am always happy to see when you post something new. I would like to see how you arrange your studio so it is efficient and works for you. Also, I would like to see some sewing techniques - setting in the shoulder, buttonholes, collars etc. Mine need some help.
Frieda, this was wonderfully helpful. Thank you for sharing. I love that the firm actually mimics softer areas and think that will be very helpful. Love how intuitive this was!! Totally inspired to make one.
Nice detailed video. Your descriptions will be easy to follow when the time comes for my attempt at resizing a dress form to fit my body shape and size. Thank you.
Excellent video as always. Could you maybe make a video where you explain your fabrics and where you purchase them from and how you choose them for your projects? That would be amazing!
This was a very good guide to creating a dressmaker's dummy. Is your pattern available online somewhere? Unfortunately, it makes little sense for women like me to make such a mannequin, as my weight has fluctuated for years and there are significant size differences between periods. Until the menopause, I maintained a steady weight that didn't change for almost thirty years. So for young women, the tip to make your own tailor-made shape is spot on.
I would love to do this to my cheap manakin but alas I'm ill and my weight fluctuates quite a lot about 1 - 1 and a half stone hopefully the hospital will figure out what's wrong with me and I can give this a go. I love watching your video ❤
It’s a great video! Thank you a lot for inspiration, all your dresses are just incredible! I would like you to ask what kind of paper you use for a tracing pattern? I mean those transparent one. It looks so stiff, could you please share with us the name of this paper and maybe a brand? Or link on it? I’ll appreciate it a lot!
Hi, I'm writing this comment 10 seconds into the video. This is the first time I've stumbled upon your channel through my recommendations and instant subscribe. The aesthetic and calm is everything I need in my sewing journey because it is chaotic enough anyways haha, thank you for your content
I am so enjoying your videos. They are beautifully presented and very enlightening. I have wanted to make my own dress form for a very long time and this video has given me the push I needed. I am wondering though if you would be able to share how you drafted the pattern pieces for your 2 earlier dress forms. Thank you and I look forward to seeing future videos.
This is so so helpful, I bought a smaller one but was very nervous about starting to customize. Thank you for sharing this! I rewatched but might have missed the information, do you mind shariing how you got the pattern? Was it those websites where you enter your measurements? And what thickness of foam would you recommend, I am not sure whether 3cm is good, I feel lile that would be thick enough to allow room to actually cut without being too much waste... Thank you in advance and all the best!
Thank you! Regarding your questions- I’m making all of my patterns myself! I learned how to draft your own patterns and this exact pattern is one I drafted for the first mannequin I made for myself with some new adjustments:) Regarding the foam I think mine was 3 or 4 cm as well. This was perfect for the bust area for example, and for places like the waist where I needed it to be thinner I just cut it in half so that it was maybe 1.5 to 2 cm :) I hope that helped!
@@friedalepold thank you so much!! I'll have to finally try and Do a pattern of my body. It's really interesting, I am confident in doing pants but for some reason I find soing bodices impossible because my body transforms so much at the waist throughout the day.
