I burst out laughing at that one.
Same.
Made me snort
Same. THESE are the types of channels I want to see on YT.
“I love trash” respectfully said “I am a human possum” for some reason to me, love it lol keep up the good work with keeping fabric ecosystems thriving 😂
My Sewing Room is now renamed “ Possum Parlour” 😊
Tie skirts were really popular in the 1970s, my mother wore one and lots of women had them back them. ❤
I remember.
I always wanted to make one but have never gotten around to it!
When I was a kid, my sister and I took some of our Dad's ties and cut them up to make evening dresses with matching coats for our Barbie dolls. Boy, did we get into trouble!
Thats so cute! The childhood memories are worth the repercussions.
OMG, that is completely AWESOME! When I was little, I tried cutting my little friend's hair, after one or two snips I tried to GLUE the strand I had cut back on. I didn't really get into trouble as I was very young, but I will never forget it! HAHAHA! She had to get a very short hair cut to compensate. 😁
You had me at "I love trash." Instantly subscribed. This is me, hoarder of all crafty things. I literally got about 25 kg of yarn packed in 5 gigantic trash bags from an older person that gave it away for free.
the tie skirt is the coolest thing ever wow
Those were very popular in the 1970s. My mother wore one.
See I've decided that I'm just doing a signature thread color. Kinda like red bottom shoes
ha, yep. I bought 30€ of ivory polycotton thread recently because I couldn't decide on a shade so i'll probably just be sticking to off-white and blue-ish black for everything i make because price, effort and enjoyment overpower my perfectionism by far.
@@karljiks Good for you. When my mom used to sew she always had to find "matching" thread. I got over that really quickly sewing quilts, because as you said, price, effort and enjoyment definitley overpower my perfectionism by far also. Happy sewing!
I only really worried about the color if is top stitching but I tried to avoid that at all costs.
I’m tempted to do this because my first sewing project on my sewing machine is a bag lining for a crocheted bag for my mom and I used black thread bc that was the thread already threaded in and I regret it bc it stands out so much on the teal so I have to redo it 😢
I made a tie skirt earlier this year for a fashion show! You did an excellent job!! I’ve never seen someone use the other side to mimic box pleats, so clever!
And thank you for the first shirt pattern illustration, i will have to try that out!
The box pleats were a stroke of genius! I love all three of your creations, but I think the tie skirt is my favourite 💕
I’ve never seen this channel before and I’m enjoying it. I also like to make garments from found material. Right now I’m making a floor length circle skirt out of a 1970s sheet. It’s pretty wonderful. At 5 foot two, I can get a full sized floor length circle skirt out of a sheet without piecing anything. It’s great!
Tie skirt: I think what I can gather is that you left the stiffening in the front part of the ties but you took it out of the narrower parts you had to reverse? That’s how it looks like it’s flowing. Very nice.
I am teaching six young people how to sew their own clothes. I am 65 and five of these people are millennials and one is in fifth grade. I think someone in the group probably would love to make a tie skirt… and this is the nicest one I’ve seen.
The reason I haven’t made a tie skirt yet for myself is that is I don’t usually like the colors of ties on the market. I really like bright colors but I’m not a red person. I’ve done a lot of “acid” dyeing of wool and silk so I wonder if I should see if I can overdye some silk ties with the same color to unify the product in a color I’d like better. For me, deep teal, or dark purple are really good overdyes.
Did you use all of the ties you bought? You basically bought 30 ties or almost that?
I’m still trying to figure out the structure of how you connected the ties together on the back. Best way to figure it out is to get my hands on a few.
Glad you're enjoying the channel!
You're correct, I removed the stiffening interlining from the skinny parts of the ties to be able to open them up to make the box pleats, but left it in the wider parts so they would keep their weight and body.
I bought 29 but I only ended up using ~24 (of course I cut all of them in half at the start 🙄 have to find another project for those!). To connect them I just topstitched the wide pieces to the skinny pieces (just through one 'wing' of the skinny piece trifold, not through the center). I'm sure there's a cleaner way to attach them that avoids visible topstitching but I didn't bother lol.
I also think messing with the actual fabric is the best way to figure it all out but hopefully my explanation makes sense and is at all helpful!
Love the brilliance of this creative girl! Trash is treasure and she is so fun and innovative to watch! I love all the dresses!
I'm glad YT recommended your channel. What made me really watch was the tie skirt. 😍 I have bags full and will soon create clothing out of them. I love your skirt rendition with pockets. Great deal on them too. Will definitely be watching for more creations. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Toe skirts were a rage in the 70's. I remember well! I love how you put pockets in it!
The tie skirt is so cool, and what a fantastic bargain! And pockets!
I think perhaps the placemat stuff is tapestry fabric?
I love making stuff out of recycled materials, even though I have a lot of actual fabric. Earlier this year I made a dark purple jacket and the front & cuffs are wool from a pencil skirt, and the back & sleeves are striped cotton from some napkins.
(also, tiny bit of unsolicited seam ripper advice - if you're using it on a seam that has other material underneath it's safer to put the end with the red ball underneath the seam so it doesn't snag the other material.)
That jacket sounds sick!! And thanks for the seam ripper tip, idk why I never realized that. I always assumed the red ball was like a safety thing? Bc it's like a warning color I guess? But that makes so much more sense, I'll have to remember that for the future.
@@morningmercury-amhg there's some really good seam-ripping tutorials here on the Tube. For flat seams, you can actually put that red ball end between the two layers and run it thru the seam like slicing thru gift wrap. It's way quicker than unpicking each stitch.
Okay I have had the prettiest place mats that I did not want to use as a place mat and now I know what to make with them thank you.
I absolutely loved all three creations. Great job. This makes me want to take up sewing again.
I have been collecting ties for about 3 years now to make a dress out of them. I've been fussy which ones I want to use. Just got a taz devil one yesterday at an op shop. Love what you are making.
you had me at "slirt"
love how all the pieces turned out!!
Love the corset and matching skirt though you really knocked it out of the park with the tie skirt.
Fabulous innovation on the classic tie skirt !!
Getting so much art stuff from people is the realest thing ever
What s nice and cozy video to craft along to! I csn't decide which one my favorite is ❤
I was literally just thinking about how much I wished you would upload a video because I missed your content. Thank you for being cool!
*uno reverse card* no thank you! You're so sweet! I'll hopefully have a few more videos before the end of the year!
i was feeling eh on the tie skirt reveal and then audibly exclaimed "POCKETS" in glee
the rest are pog, the skirt and corset are AMAZING like ready to wear haute couture vibes!!!!
This is the first video of yours I've seen and I wanted to compliment your editing! It's excellent, spot on! Your B-roll is great and you zoom in at good times to emphasis your humor, it just really stood out as the quality I would expect of a much large channel. So, good on you, you're doing great! I love the tie skirt, the idea to use the skinny ends as a pleat was genius.
Amazing! Your diagrams and explanations are so clear!
I absolutely adore the tie skirt! 🤩😍
The corset set for some reason reminds me of either Germanfest or Polishfest! They have similiar outfits. Great job! ❤ I never saw a tie skirt before either.
im OBSESSED with the tie skirt its so fun and whimsical
These turned out great! Very creative.
Props to you for the immense efforts put into these beautiful pieces!!! Love them sm!
Yes that tie skirt is to die for :D thanks for sharing your project and your cat with us.
And yes, mid-October is absolutely basically halloween lol
I love your video. I love your tie skirt. Great designs.
"Stay out of the closet! It's pride month!" Love it. You sound like me talking to my cat.
you have been awarded the cool sewist title, enjoy being on my subscribed list queen 🙏🙏
i will bear this title with honor 🫡🫡
I don't even sew but I have wanted to see someone make a skirt out of silk ties for literal decades. Because I have zero guidance, I've recently learned to crochet instead. Much easier to learn on YT. Baby steps.
In the meantime, I've subbed so maybe when I figure out where to start with the sewing I'll know where to go for the projects. These are exactly the thrifted type I'll be looking for. Also you're hilarious and your cat is adorable. Thanks for making my insomnia worthwhile!
I have 8-9 ties that are all Tabasco sauce themed. I will collect more ties to coordinate with them for a future project. I liked the quail top and tie skirt equally, and the corset / skirt project turned out well even though not my thing. Thank you for this bunch of fun.
The tie skirt is my favorite!!! So stinking cute!!!!! I kinda wish there were bowling penguins, that would be pretty amazing! 😂❤
Thank you! And bowling penguins would be totally awesome! These tie companies don't know what they're missing...
They're all cute! But my fave is the tie skirt, too. 👍❤️
I love all of them. And you added "Putting on the Ritz"! Cool!
All of the pieces turned out great, but I especially liked the tie skirt. It looks so cool!!
My favorite is the tie skirt as well. I need one myself.
My favorite is the tie skirt, i love that it has pockets too!
I love the tie skirt. Maybe some small darts in the halter top would make it fit better.
I snorted when you said “slirt”, how silly. 😂
"Slirt" made me laugh out loud
The tie skirt is amazing! It looks so witchy and the pleats were a brilliant idea 💖
Amazing! You’re brilliant! 🥳🥰🤓🙌🏽
Well done!! I love them all.....if i had to pick it would be the tie skirt. 💜💜💜
LOVE the tie skirt best, but all items turned out GREAT!
Well done. Love reusing existing items rather than purchasing new. Good for the planet. Bravo!
I just found you, YOU ARE SO TALENTED.
I know you will go far.
Great content, natural ,relaxing surrounds, just love your down to earth ,personality.
Much love to you, Mel ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much, you are so sweet! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Im glad TH-cam suggested this to me! I love those stays ❤ the floral napkins were such an incredible find.
I loved the corset mini skirt the best. Well done on all of your projects!
I love your talent and creativity. Looking forward to more.
The pockets on the tie skirt are 10/10. Fantastic sewing all around 😍
How am I only just learning how to use a thimble correctly at 26 when ive been sewing for 14 years :o Also the corset skirt combo is my fav
I just love your tie skirt. That box pleating worked perfectly. The pockets were unusual, and I really enjoyed them too with their little black outline. That was great work.
You are so creative ! ! Really liked all your designs, but the tie 'slirt' was OUTSTANDING. (added slirt to my dictionary). LOL
I really love the corset top, but all of them are fantastic. I'm looking forward to the Halloween project!
Your artistry really comes through! The Tie Skirt is the ‘BOMB’! 🎉 I may have to start thrifting those… and talk to my husband 😮😊
OK, I think all of the items turned out great, but the tie skirt is just genius and soo cool! There are so many cheap ties in thrift stores around me, now I'm seriously considering them as material and not only accessories!
I love everything yyu made. The two piece suits you so much but the tie skirt is awesome
Thank you so much!
They use to put fiberglass in things like drapes and other household items as a form of fireproof. I was highly allergic to fabric that had fiberglass in it and my mom had beautiful drapes throughout the house and we had to get rid of them and put curtains up
Loved every single bit, except the part where I was reminded that I donated a PRISTINE set of 12 brocade butterfly placemats and matching runner after holding onto them for a decade, because I decided I'd never use them around food. 😭 Thank you for the inspiration!
That tie skirt is super awesome!
Your content so far has great vibes of Rachel Maksy (of course) and also Simone Giertz a bit. I'm excited to see your videos over time as your fandom fills out and we learn more of your interests and ideas. I think you're on a fantastic track 😊 (I love your Zuko sticker btw!)
I've dreamed of making a tie-skirt for literally decades! I even bought a bunch of ties years ago and planned it all out. I could never get up the courage to cut them, lol. Kudos to you for completing it! So nice to see it actually happen for someone 😍
i was not prepared for the reveal at all. fabulous job on everything!!
Everything is so cool!!
I love all 3.
ngl i was nawt into the idea of the tie skirt, but the way you made the box pleats was so cool that i kinda wanna make one for me now lol
EVERYTHING U MAKE IS ART!!! X] this is so beautifulll!!!!!
I loved the corset and skirt set, it came out so good! But I would say the tie skirt has such a unique charm to it, so if I had to pick a favorite it would have to be the tie skirt.
the corset & skirt set look So good. would’ve thought it was bought from a boutique
What great project! I’m torn between the corset set and the tie skirt, but I think the corset set is my absolute favorite. This inspires me to look at materials, other than sheets and curtains for fabric, great job!
I TOO LOVE TRASH
Also i really chuckled at “deboning” ties like they are fish going to be eaten
I have a terrible fear of needles so certain parts of this were hard to watch but you made it very fun and interesting with your explanations so I stayed!!! I love the tie skirt the most, all the ties were so cute and it looked so good in the end!!
I see the sword of protection on your wall haha! Great pieces in this video
You are just delightful!! And so talented! I love the way you explain things, and the pieces you made turned out so cute - perfect for fall!! I subscribed and I’m wishing you much-luck in growing your channel!! 🧡🍂🍄
Wishing I was thin enough to use scraps for clothing 😂
Really cute garments! Great job!
I don't know what I like best - they are all so fabulous!
I've loved tie skirts since I first saw them in the 90s. Never sawn anyone use the skinny parts to make pleats before! It gives the skirt a beautiful swish. Also, August is basically Augtober so Halloween away 😸🎃
I chuckled at the $3 buck dance cause ik the feeling where you already know your getting a deal and then that deal is super MAXED! Ehh ehh I would do a little diddy dance too
POCKETSES! in the tie skirt!!!! Omygosh thats so cool, THAT really got to me lol Personally the corset and skirt was my fav tho
The lychee story made me smile
I sew with clear thread bc it’s easier than trying to match colors. It’s hard to find sometimes but it does help.
By 3:00 I was IN! The tie skirt was almost obligatory when I was at Uni in the 80s. It had to contain at least one rude one. The prep involved was ENORMOUS. We can get them here for $1 each. Silk is more expensive. $2. Occasionally I still buy the odd one if it’s beautiful for my husband and wonder its history. The stays are fantastic, love them. The fibreglass makes sense as it would have been heat resistant and seen as a plus. Your poor hands!
I love the skirt! Definitely coming back! I love your personality.
You are hilarious my dude. If you happen to live near Pittsburgh I will happily pay you for sewing lessons.
Yes, I have shopped for ties at thrift stores and where I live they want $3.00 to $4.00 EACH. I just can't pay that at a thrift store! Glad you scored some ties!
Wonderful video! So cool and inspiring:D I'm obsessed with the tie skirt
you had me at "I call it my ✨slirt✨"
2:28 I burst out laughing 😆
I saw your comment at 2:26 and I was like "oh?" Then slirt LMAO
"We? You're not helping" idk why that was so funny to me lol
But I really enjoyed watching this! You did amazing! 💕
I get fabric from eBay auction ✂️ and Facebook market place , there are some fabric swop sell face book pages too,
Dude, I have the same Singer model and I love that we also have the same Glossier sticker 😂❤ also amazing, inspiring work!
Slirt is absolutely hilarious, love it, and I love you! I hadn’t seen your content before so this is my first video of yours and you’re such a delight! I’m a big fan of the matching set, cos ✨ aesthetics ✨, but the tie skirt is very cool too. Skiet? Skirtie? Tiert?
Awwwwwww what a beautiful kitty! Tell himb I love him. I love the tie skirt. I dunno why but it gives me hogwarts student vibes.
