I served in the US Air Force from 1973 to 1978. I was a Weather Equipment Technician (302X0) specializing in weather radar systems (CPS9, FPS77, FPS103). In 1975 I was given TDY (temporary duty) to assist in a weather radar system replacement at Miramar (San Diego CA). I worked in Base Ops and got to see a lot of the jets in action around the base and met some of the pilots. Pretty awesome. I still have my 'Miramar Marine Corps Air Station' polo shirt that was gifted to me by the base commander after the successful completion of my TDY.
Wow that is absolutely amazing. I honestly don't know how to react to somebody who served in the US Air Force. Such a massive job and I have all the respect in the world for people like yourself. I can only imagine some of the things you have seen. Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing that with me. You think you know somebody. Absolutely incredible
What Top Gun: Maverick, did for me, more than anything else, was to remind me of how impactful a film can *still* be. It pulled on my heart strings, it had me laughing, crying, and cheering in a way that I haven’t done in many, many years. I am *so* appreciative of the effort put into this film, and the fact that they were completely unashamed to play to *their* audience. Tom Cruise selling the film, and thanking the audience in a very sincere, appreciative way. I also felt a sense of camaraderie with everyone, in feeling that this film, represented “our” films: the films that our generation made, and I felt very proud to be there. Bravo, everyone…BRAVO!
I honestly couldn't agree more with everything that you wrote down here. Like I said in the video it's a love letter to the original movie and it's a shame we rarely see movies like this paying homage to an absolute classic. Like you said the movie hits every single emotion you could possibly want from a movie. Just look at the scene with Tom Cruise looking through the window at rooster playing the piano. It left me in tears. It's a shame I left it this long to finally watch this truly remarkable movie.
Hey Christian. I normally find something positive when it comes to underwhelming editions but I'm struggling with this one. I'm actually thinking about returning it and buying one of the separate Steel books that came out. It's a shame because the movie deserves better. Thanks for stopping by my friend
This is the aspect of the studios and publishing that I'll never understand. You have the biggest box office smash hit film in ages, with incredible reviews from critics and audiences. The logical expectation would be an immaculately boxed marvel of design, which would still be easily the cheapest part of the whole physical release equation. And then they just phone it in. Minimal effort all round. You just think 'really?' There aren't even any pictures of planes on the thing.
All about the money. Execs give design departments next to nothing in budget to design stuff like this, as they assume those who would buy them, will buy them regardless the quality. So why "waste" more money on production quality when we can shovel out what one graphic artist can slap together in a half an hour. One other aspect that isnt helping stuff like this these days is the slow death of optical media itself. Pretty soon they will cheap out and not even sell the discs and just offer collectors boxes with related random swag.
I will never fully understand it myself. As you said one of the most critically acclaimed movies to come out last year by critics and fans and this is the best that we can get when it comes to a collector's edition on 4k. The amount of comments on this video about people saying how they bought it and returned it is truly staggering and that's exactly what I'm going to do myself. I should have stuck to my guns and picked up one of the steelbooks. I'm a victim of my own curiosity unfortunately and sometimes it works out and other times this happens. You just know somewhere down the line they will put out another deluxe release that will be a sizeable upgrade over this edition. It's a shame in the end because the movie itself deserves better. Thanks so much for stopping by
Another great honest video. I loved Top Gun Maverick, I didn't think the contents was too bad but for the price you'd expect a lot more. Looking forward to your next video
Hey Laura. Like I said in the video if I was able to get it for around 50 to €60 I think that would have been fair and I wasn't too far off it. I just found the entire edition to be very bland looking and I get that they were trying to represent the metallic look of an aircraft. It just didn't work for me unfortunately. Thankfully the movie itself was phenomenal and it's a shame I left it this long. Thanks for stopping by
Definitely my favourite movie of 2022 Keith. This film I think saved the cinemas after Covid. And Tom Cruise is probably the last of the old school movie stars 😎
I couldn't agree more with you Shaun. The box-office desperately needed this movie and I've noticed it seems to kick start it almost. Things are looking a lot better now. The movie exceeding my expectations and that is saying something when you consider how high they were to start with. Thanks for stopping by my friend
Hey colum. Unfortunately it's such a underwhelming edition and Top Gun deserves so much better than this. It's a shame. Thanks for checking it out my friend. I hope all is well
Keith, I preordered this set. I was blown away of Maverick and watched it twice in cinema (I´m not the biggest fan of public cinemas, so most likely its just one time for me, where I watch these Blockbuster, but a 2nd time isnt the case). But after I saw first pictures and unboxing, I was really disappointed by the lack of content. I mean, sure. 2 unique looking Steelbooks, but tbh in my opinion, they re not that impressive. So I wanted to buy this set for another reason. But there was no other reason. Sadly canceled it tho. I mean I was ready for a great looking Set. But I really dont know how they think, this pricetag over 120€ justify this. This could be easily a top release but at the end it was one of the worst last years.
It's never my intention to put anybody off a release particularly a release like this. But there is no justifying that €120 Price Tag and as a matter of fact I think it's even dearer on the likes of Amazon France and Italy. I'm even questioning the €70 that I paid whether or not it's worth it. As a matter of fact I think I'm going to return it and pick up one of those beautiful Steelbooks that came out a couple of months back. I honestly think you made the right decision and because this set is so widely available I could imagine it dropping down very low in the future. It's already gone down €50 since December. God knows how much it's going to be in 3 months time. Thank you so much for stopping by and for dropping a comment my friend. I really appreciate it
Another great video Keith. Must admit I found the set very underwhelming as well. The movie though is just outstanding. I saw it in the pictures and have the standard 4k and the hairs simply stood up all over my body when the movie started. Like you say, it’s at least as good, if not better than the amazing original. The original was one of my favourite 80’s films and this was the best new film I’ve seen in a long, long time.
Hair Graham. It really is a shame about this release because the movie itself is special. It's the only word that comes to mind. I have never seen anything quite like it and and not taking anything away from the original which is equally brilliant but what they have accomplished in this movie truly sets the benchmark of what can be captured on film. I honestly can't wait to sit down and watch it again. Thank you so much my friend for stopping by and checking it out. I really appreciate all your support
Assault on precinct 13 ! Your intro tune just resinated with me as a I watched the movie last night ! Coincidence or I’m wrong ! 😂. I loved both of these movies and did a exchange on USS Carl Vission while in States a few years ago ! I still can’t believe I got to experience that ! Great Video as always ! Cheers Keith 🇦🇺👍🇮🇪🙏
If there was one man that was going to love these movies it was going to be you Conor. It's a shame I've left at this long to finally see Maverick but my god it was worth the wait. Great to hear that you sat down and watch assault last night. It's one of my favourite John Carpenter movies and definitely one of my favourite themes from him. As always thank you for stopping by my friend
I completely understand that Devon and I probably would have been ok with it if at least the steelbooks themselves were somewhat decent but I found the artwork to be somewhat Bland. But it's great to hear that u love the set. I just couldn't help but feel some what underwhelmed by it.
Lost count of how many times I've watched snippets and watch along of this on you tube😄. I did quite like the photos in your set as they were what Maverick had on his wall in the film.
Hey Chris. Honestly I never realised that until someone said it in the comment section tonight. Well that makes at least two pieces in this collection that makes sense.
This really is one of the best sequels ever made, and it was so good to see the Iceman, even though it was brief. I have to say the scene that got me the most is when they threw him out the bar and he was watching through the window Miles Teller playing the piano, that put a lump in my throat, that was powerful. Hope you got space for this one Keith, you are right the box is pretty big, still it will look mint in your collection.
Now Gary you are going to trigger me off because that was a beautiful scene. It was like looking at a lost puppy in the rain. It actually broke my heart and I forgot to mention that in the video. I never seen a sequel like it and I don't think I ever will again. There's rumours going around that there might be a third one but I hope they leave it alone. They've already surpassed every single expectation when it comes to this movie why try it again.
@@millerman9991 Yeah, I get what you are saying but Tom Cruise is a perfectionist, I think if there is a third installment, Tom wouldn't agree unless it matched or surpassed Maverick. We will have to wait and see. Have a good one Keith, see you on the next one, take care.
Hey Keith. Pleased you finally got round to watching it. What a film. I was fortunate enough to see it in IMAX and it was amazing mate. Im a huge fan of the original and I think they just made a better version of it. Looks and sounds amazing in 4k. Not sure about that set though. I looked at it but didnt think you seemed to get much for the extra money
Hey Chris. I can only imagine what this movie looked like in IMAX especially if this 4K disc is anything to go by. It's a wonderful movie and like I said in the video it exceeded my expectations which were incredibly high from the get go. The edition itself is pure lazy and rushed and I'm leaving it back as soon as I can. It's a shame because it deserves so much better. Thanks for stopping by Chris. I really appreciate all your support
Keith I don't mind the metallic look of this set...but should have put a bit more effort into the extras on it..... maybe a diecast model of a f14 or something...but still a cool set.... thks for sharing 👍👍
I don't know what it is with me and the colour grey but I just don't find it appealing when it comes to collector's editions. Especially if it's overkill like it is in this set. Even if they put some effort into the steelbooks I probably would have been content. To be honest Roy I'm thinking about returning it and picking up one of the Steelbooks that came out for it. The movie deserves better than this in my honest opinion. Thanks so much for stopping by and checking it out. I'm glad you actually like the metallic look to it.
Did an unboxing myself, wasn't too impressed either. The coasters and dogtagslook nice, but that's about it. It could've been an amazing set. Great unboxing Keith.
I actually looked at your video after I bought it. It's very strange with me but I don't normally watch people's videos on editions that I have pre-ordered because I don't want to be put off buying them. I probably should change that because I would save a lot of money
Unfortunately Gary the dog tag is the only item that makes sense. Didn't care for anything else to be completely honest and it's a shame because the movie is fantastic and it deserves better. Thanks for stopping by my friend
That's exactly what should have been in this edition. As a matter of fact it would have been perfect. Unfortunately this is what we got. A very underwhelming rushed release. Thanks for stopping by. I really appreciate it
Great unboxing 👌 Can't help put think there will be some sort of Super box set down line. Only to be followed by an Ultimate Ultra box set a year or so later 🤔
I think what I'm going to do is wait and see if maybe filmarena might bring out something in the future and try and pick that up. Unfortunately when it comes to this release I'm going to send it back. I really doesn't make me happy and I don't see the point in having it. It's a real shame because the movie is phenomenal and it deserves better
Thanks for taking one for the team Keith. For the price, that set really sucks. Getting similar vibes to that batman baterang set. The main steel books that came out for maverick were far superior. Hope you're well friend and thanks for the videos this week. A bargain on those hunger games movies and training day looks to be worth a purchase. Ashamed to say I've never seen it, so in for a treat I'm sure.
Great minds think alike Ian because I am not kidding when I first shot this video I actually brought in my batarang edition for comparison and how underwhelmed I was by that released as well. It's probably why I left it for so long to pick up the Top Gun edition. €120 is crazy money and I'm even wondering is 70 worth it. I'm actually thinking about returning it and picking up one of the singular Steelbook releases. I would love to hear your thoughts on training day when you get around to watching it. Denzel is phenomenal and very different from what we normally see from him. Check it out ian I think you will love it
@@millerman9991 I'll certainly let you know. Absolutely spoiled for choice on releases currently, it seems. I take it you were all over those rocky and superman sets. And remind me, did you get a subscriber mail or gift before Xmas, a criterion release. I've got 6 purchases lined up and I've a feeling one is one you received. Be interested to know your thoughts on it, if it is one I've lined up.
I have pre-ordered the Superman Edition and cannot wait to get my hands on that. As for Rocky I am going to wait for all the movies to come out on Steelbook and then I might pick them up. The two criterion editions I got were cat people and carnival of Souls. The carnival of souls was fantastic and I enjoyed cat people as well but it wasn't as good as Carnival and it looked remarkable on that Blu-ray. Was it either of them two just out of curiosity
@@millerman9991 Excellent, look forward to those unboxings in the near future. Seen some comparison shots of rocky and rocky 2 to the Blu-ray's and they look really impressive, granted that's through my mobile. But fingers crossed on those. I've ordered the superman 2 steel on its own as my budget was limited at the time. Presume the others were available separately too at the time, but they seem to have disappeared. Thanks for the criterion confirmation. They weren't the films, but I did get carnival of souls before Xmas, so that's obviously were I've put 2 and 2 together. Really enjoyed it. The one I thought you had was les diaboliques. Heard good things about it and comparisons to Hitchcock works.
I got very lucky I have to admit when I came to the Superman collection because I bought it on Warner Brothers website and I actually had a 45% voucher code and I used it on that. But even if I didn't have that code I think I still would have got it. I completely understand what you're saying ian sometimes we do have to budget things and that's exactly what I done with this Top Gun edition. Unfortunately it didn't work out for me which is a shame. I never seen Les diaboliques and I have to admit after hearing it has a Hitchcock feel to it I'm a little intrigued.
I'm considering doing it. The only problem is trying to find 10 movies. You think you have your 10 and then all of a sudden you find another movie. Can be a real pain in the ass 😆 🤣. But I promise you it will be coming.
Keith I was already dying as you were opening the first steelbook because you'd mentioned how grey the set already was and I knew it was going to be the boring grey/silver discs on top, classic paramount. I suppose its exclusive steelbooks but they could have done better. I'm looking forward to watching it when I find a 4k steelbook of og topgun to watch back to back.
I'm not kidding Steve if you actually seen my face when I first unboxed this edition. I just turned my head to my fiance and the first thing I said was this is going back. The steelbooks are shocking and the only part of the set that made any sense to me was the dog tags. It's a shame because the movie is extraordinary and it deserves better than this. Somebody told me there is a lovely lenticular Steelbook that you can buy from Germany and I might look into that. Thanks for stopping by Steve. Apologies for being so negative on this release
Hi Keith, loved this film, I could have walked out of the cinema wen danger zone came on and I would have been satisfied lol, great film, great cast and ye the scene with Tom cruise and val kilmer was epic. 4k disc was great like you said. you pretty much summed up that boxset so I won't add anything. great video
Hey Angelo. I was going to say the exact same thing in my video as soon as I heard danger zone. It's a shame it didn't feature again in the movie. Unfortunately it's a very poor looking release and when you consider how popular this movie is amongst fans and critics it deserves so much better than this. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend
Good video, i looked at the edition of the movie set but i did not think it was worth it and i just got the normal edition, I loved the Maverick movie and your are right it was a great sequel to the first movie
I should have done the exact same as yourself Paul. Sometimes my curiosity gets the better of me and I get burnt like this. I am going to return it and try and pick up one of those Steelbooks. It's such a wonderful movie and it deserves better than this. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend. I really appreciate it
Hi Keith,I loved this movie I agree with you it was flawless. Its a shame that this set is such a poor effort though, they could of really done better than this. Thanks for another great honest review.
Hey Brian. Great to hear that you enjoyed it as much as I did and yes the edition itself is very underwhelming and it's a shame because the movie really does deserve better than this. I'm actually thinking about returning it and buying a separate Steelbook. Thank you again for stopping by my friend. I really appreciate all the support you have given me
Such a shame, I too did not go for this. I almost did but due to the price, I just got the normal steelbook for Mavrick. Already had the 4k Boxset for Top Gun, so as the extras were just "so so" I felt I could not justify such a big spend. At least you got it at half the cost Keith, glad you enjoyed the movie. It was an excellent 4K. I also have the Sin City boxset 😀 All the best, Dan
Hey Dan. It really is a shame and I should have done what you done and pick up the singular Steelbook Edition and I think I will return this release and pick one of them up. I already had Top Gun on 4K actually I think it's the same edition that you're talking about. Thank you so much for stopping by Dan and I might actually do a video on that Sin City box set. I was quite impressed by it when I opened it after doing this video.
@@millerman9991 Sounds like a plan, Keith. As a collector, we both know real estate is a premium and that boxset is big. If it's not bringing you joy then I would send it back. I'm a massive Ghostbusters fan and like you that trap set broke my heart but I made the hard call and sent it back. The normal steelbook for TG Mav is nice, I'm sure you'll prefer it. Yeah, do it, that Sin City set was awesome. I still have it. It's nice to delve into past pickups and share the joy. All the best Keith. Thanks for sharing, love what you do 😉
It's amazing Dan because the first thing that came into my head when I first unboxed this edition was that Ghostbusters release. Just like yourself I wanted it to be something special and unfortunately it wasn't and I returned it and I think that's what I'm going to do with this. Like you said if it's not making me happy what's the point in having it and it is quite big as well. I know I will be happy with the Steelbook in the end. Thanks for that Dan
I saw it the first week it was released at our Empire cinema on their IMPACT screen, with is their version of the IMAX screen. I’m not sure, but it must of had Dolby Atmos. Before I left for the cinema,I listened to the top gun soundtrack on vinyl,to get me even more hyped for the film. Wow,what an experience,I don’t get to go to the cinema as much as I used to,plus the whole Covid thing too. I really enjoyed it from start to finish. It’s a pity the blu ray and 4K was separated,so I’m holding off until I get my 4K set up,then maverick will be my first film I watch.👍♥️
I am kicking myself that I didn't see it in the cinema when I had the chance. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of seeing anything in IMAX over here. I think the closest IMAX cinema is probably around 3 hours from me. I can only imagine what it looked like. Whenever you do decide to get a 4K setup up Maverick is probably the one movie you could pick up that will set the benchmark for how every other 4k movies should look like. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend
Watched Top Gun: Maverick four times at the cinema including twice in IMAX with Laser and once as a Top Gun double-bill. 😎 Such a shame about this release, Keith. Thank you.
Hey cheekster. I could imagine what this movie look like because this 4K release of it is definitely up there as one of the best I've seen. It's just a shame about the release. Thanks for stopping by my friend
I’m glad I cancelled my pre order of this. I ended up buying the German import steelbook of it. Such a shame they never put more effort into this set as the movie was fantastic.
I never want to put anybody off a release but I have to admit I think you done the right thing. I'm actually going to try and get that German import because somebody told me it comes with a lovely lenticular cover. Thank you so much for taking the time to check it out
Add me to the long list of everyone who really enjoyed the picture. It’s truly an old throwback not just to its predecessor and its era of the 80’s, but even as far back as films like WINGS from 1927, THE DAM BUSTERS from 1955 and all the others of their kind that represent a form of timeless entertainment they can rarely figure out how to make anymore. As for the box set, I wish I could kick up a little dust into the negative reaction and make you feel a bit better about your purchase, but really it’s a total misfire. I actually don’t mind the near monochrome minimalism of the box design, but that should have been contrasted with epic colors all over the inside and contents. Design wise that works, not dragging the drabness out to the point where the entire set just fades to a foggy nothing. My advice is to take the loss, donate it to someone and go buy the normal 4K with the color slip. In this case less is definitely MORE. -Glen
Hey Glen. I know I was late to the game getting to watch this movie but my god it was worth the wait. I never thought it could exceed my expectations because they were as high as they could be and yet it still it managed to do so. As for the release itself I actually returned it and got my money back. I ordered the Steelbook edition and hopefully I will have it in the next couple of weeks. Thanks again for stopping by my friend and for sharing your thoughts on the movie itself. I really appreciate it
Great Video Keith I haven't seen any of Top Gun movies but I heard good things about them both I may give them a watch at some point but the steelbook set itself is boring no artwork in the steelbooks and artwork on discs basically paramount are getting collectors to cough up a lot of money for this set i did pre-order my copy with Zavvi then I cancelled the order about one or two months after making the pre-order because it was well over priced they wanted £99.99 for the set and I made a good decision on cancelling the order I may have to buy both movies on standard Blu-Ray
Honestly I think you done the right thing and there is plenty of beautiful looking steelbooks out there for Top Gun and the sequel maverick. I honestly can't praise both movies enough and trust me my friend check them out whenever you have a chance to and if you can check them out on 4k. I think you'll be blown away by what you see. I never like returning editions for movies like this but unfortunately that's exactly what I'm going to do because it simply doesn't make me happy and what's the point if it doesn't. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend. I really appreciate all your support
Hey David. 2 phenomenal movies and in a strange way I hope they leave it alone now because it's that fear of them ruining the franchise. There is multiple Editions out there and hopefully you can find one that's best suited to yourself
I totally agree once again. Never understood the hype when this boring boxset was announced. I don't like the extra's in it (why coasters?) and very boring steelbooks. And why putting Tom Cruise his name on the steelbook spines. It's written bigger than the movie titles. I completely understand why you waited for the buy. I think 70 euro is a fair pricepoint if the steelbooks had a little more effort put in it. Not a fan of the first movie. And I miss real antagonists in the movies. But the second one is way better indeed.
Hey Robert. I have a feeling we were going to be both in agreement when It came to this release and to be completely honest I'm thinking about returning it and simply buying one of the regular Steelbooks that came out for it. The movie itself deserves so much better than this bland looking release. Even if the steelbooks were somewhat better I could accept it for what it is but unfortunately no effort went into them as well. It's such a shame in the end. But thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out. Hasn't been a great week when it comes to collector's editions. Hopefully next week will be better
The only flaw(to me) is the static Dolby Atmos soundtrack, there is no movement at all. I was expecting more on the audio side but still, I had wonderful time with that 4K release.
Wow I'm shocked to hear that you weren't to crazy about the Dolby Atmos. I'm sorry to hear that. I had no issues at all on my end. But as you said the the 4K transfer was fantastic.
I was disappointed when this was announced and I saw pictures. Thanks for the review but I'm glad I stuck with the normal slipcover to match the original I have on my shelf. This blew me away man, best film I've seen in I don't know how many years. I love Tom unabashedly, imo he's the greatest American action star ever.
Just like yourself I was disappointed when the pictures got released but I was hoping it was going to be one of those things where it looks better once you've got it in your hands. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I'm actually thinking about returning it and getting a regular Steelbook. Like I said in the video Tom Cruise is so reliable and as you said probably one of the greatest American action stars you're ever likely to see. Can't wait to see Mission Impossible dead reckoning. I can only imagine what stunts he's done in this one seeming it's the last mission impossible movies. Thanks for stopping by my friend
To be honest John I'm thinking about returning it and getting my €70 back. I might try and get one of the Steel books that came out earlier because the movie itself is phenomenal. Deserves so much more than this. Thank you for stopping by my friend. I hope all is well
@@millerman9991 Sounds like a plan Keith 👍 yes I'm ok thanks, today I got the ok from Dr to go back to work next week so that's good going forward, not looking forward to getting up early again though 😂
Hey John. That is great to hear and I know it's going to be hard in the mornings but you know yourself give it a couple of mornings and you'll be back to normal. The first couple will be tough though. You definitely have my sympathy there my friend
@@millerman9991 Cheers Keith, think it will only be a few minutes and it will be like I've never been off 😂 hope you and Ellen are well and have a lovely weekend.
I'm going to pick up the regular Steelbook myself and return this edition. I should have done it in the first place but my curiosity got the best of me. It's a shame because the movie itself is phenomenal. Thanks for checking it out my friend
@@millerman9991 I must admit (having just watched the 1st Top gun film for the Frist time in years) and really liked it , but I still prefer The Final Countdown.
I Still Haven't Seen The Final Countdown and I have been trying to get that blue underground release of it. It's strange because every time I see the cover for it it reminds me of that movie the Philadelphia Experiment
@@millerman9991 Got the Blue Underground edition worth the extra money. Come to think of it I wouldn't mind getting the Philadelphia experiment as well 😁
There is a beautiful mediabook edition of it on Amazon France I think and I'm going to be getting it very soon. Check it out yourself and see what you think. The Philadelphia Experiment 2018 [Édition Collector Blu-Ray + DVD + Livret-Visuel 2019] amzn.eu/d/1UF0tII
Yeah they should've named it ultimate coin collector instead of ultimate collector. Short time it was on sale for 99€ and I was wondering if I should get it, but I stayed with the lenticular steelbook. But for the regular price and even with some retailers asking for up to 20% more than the regular price at the pre-orders - that is crazy!! I saw it for 149€ in a online shop.
I'm actually thinking about returning it and picking up that lenticular Steelbook that you are talking about. Would I be right in saying it's an Amazon Italy Steelbook. I'm almost certain somebody told me there's a Steelbook on Amazon Italy that has a nice lenticular cover. As for this edition it's just not worth it. €120 I think it's crazy and I'm even questioning €70. It's a shame because it's such a great movie and I think it deserves better
@@millerman9991 I don't know about an Italian version of it, I got lucky and pre-ordered the German lenticular, it was Amazon exclusive. 70€ sounds more like a fair price, if only the box was more premium and descent sized for displaying :D
A German release ok I will definitely look out for that. I think I would have been content if maybe if they put in some of them alternate Steelbooks that are available instead of the bland ones that are inside this release
I almost picked this up myself, but looking at the contents, I felt it wasn't worth the price for me. I absolutely love the movies though, especially Maverick.
It's a phenomenal movie but it deserves so much better than what we got here. Every aspect of this edition feels rushed and I'm going to return it and hopefully pick up one of the singular Steelbooks that came out for maverick. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it
Both great films that deserved a far better quality release than this cash grab. They could even have taken the art style of either of the individual steelbook releases and used that as the basis of the set, still lazy, but better than this boring grey set they’ve cobbled together. I feel your pain Keith, been there too many times feeling short changed by a purchase. However, I did chuckle at the level of disdain in your voice for the key ring😂.
Unfortunately I couldn't hide my pain when It came to the key chain. What was the point in that. I think I'm going to return this edition and pick up one of these singular steelbook titles which look far better. I was told there's a beautiful German Steelbook that comes with a lovely lenticular cover and I might look into that one. Thank you so much for stopping by and apologies for the negativity in this video. Normally I can find a positive with editions like this one but unfortunately I'm struggling.
Man like most I had this on pre-order due to the excitement but I kept going back and looking at it over and over and thinking was I making a mistake at that price, I cancelled in the end and waited and picked up the double feature 4k not too long ago for 20 euro at Amazon Italy. I thank your wallet for the sacrifice/ video though.
Honestly I think you made the right call and it's never my intention to put anybody off any kind of release but I felt it was only right to address it in this video because that price is crazy. There you go €20 Amazon Italy 4k what more can you ask for and I should have done the same and I might still do so and return this. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend
It's a great film Keith so glad I went to see this in the cinema. Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the set, so I didn't go for it. Maybe Filmarena will produce a nice premium edition.
I can only imagine what a filmarena edition would look like for this movie. Hopefully someday it might happen. I don't like anything if I'm completely honest about this edition. As a matter of fact I'm thinking about returning it and getting my €70 back. It's such a shame because the movie is remarkable and it deserves better. Thanks for stopping by Matt. I really appreciate it my friend
@@millerman9991 I liked the Amazon UK exclusive Steelbook myself. A better design than the HMV edition imo. Hope you get an edition that's does this film justice 👍.
It's a shame that the edition is so lame Keith. The steelbooks should have been more colorful and the collectables are what they are. Maybe we will get a better edition some day. Yeah, 5 seconds in and the movie put big smile on my face and Danger Zone brought the shivers. Wonderful movie.
Hey Sebastian. I'm hoping somewhere down the line we might get a filmarena edition of this movie. As for this edition I am definitely leaving it back and I'm going to try and pick up one of the singular Steel books that came out. It's a shame because it's such a wonderful movie and it deserves better than this. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend. All the best
Yeah, Maverick is far better than the original Top Gun. I saw it last summer in my favorite cinema, that was the best cinematic experience last year. I got the 4K-Steelbook, I think that’s enough for me.
Hey Martin. I'm actually regretting not seeing it in the cinema when I had the chance. Especially if this 4K release is anything to go by. I should have done what you done and pick up the singular Steelbook. I actually might return this edition and do that. Thank you so much for stopping by
@@millerman9991 Maybe you get the Steelbook with the artwork where Maverick is sitting in the cockpit looking back at the aircraft-carrier behind him. I have that 4K-Steelbook.
I was told by a few people tonight that Amazon Germany brought out a lovely Steelbook that comes with a lenticular cover so I might try and get that. It's probably the same Steelbook you're talking about it just has a lenticular on it
I never smiled once when I first unboxed this edition and I think that alone speaks volumes. Very poor release for such a wonderful movie. I need to check out that black sheep edition you are talking about. Thanks for stopping by
I dont even have to watch the video to know that this one is about the Top Gun box set (but I will anyways :) SUCH a disappointment. The original movie is my favorite movie of all time and I loved Maverick too. But both movies deserved a better box set. Hopefully they have other better ones in store for the future.
Apologies for being somewhat negative during this video and normally I can find positives when it comes to editions like this but unfortunately I'm struggling. I love both movies and they deserve a hell of a lot more than what we got here. So I am going to leave a back and pick up a singular Steelbook release because I already had the original Top Gun on 4k. Sometimes my curiosity gets the better of me and I should have just stuck to my guns. I will live and learn. Thanks again for stopping by my friend
I've not seen this film either. Did think about this set but glad I didn't go for it now. Its just such a huge box but not much else. Think I'll just get a regular edition
Hey Paul. Somebody told me you can get a beautiful Steelbook edition with a very nice lenticular cover and I think it's available on Amazon Italy and I think it's around €26. I'm going to return this edition and I might pick that one up. Trust me when I say you are in for a treat when you get to see the movie. It's extraordinary. Thanks for stopping by my friend
Very underwhelming Keith, never bothered with this as I’ve never been a big fan of Top Gun, forced myself to watch the sequel enjoyed it but not enough to go out and buy this set I’ll settle for standards of both version in a 2 for £25 sale down the line. Hope your well, get a break from work I’ll send you the pics I promised Keith 👍🏻
Hey Paul. I should have stuck to my guns and bought the singular Steelbook edition. I'm going to return this edition and get my money back and hopefully one of those Steel books are still available. Definitely not worth the money in the end. Thanks for stopping by my friend and I look forward to seeing those pictures. I can only imagine what it looks like
My wife bought me this for Christmas and i dont have the heart to tell her what i really think of it i .If i could sell it i would but she will notice .Good job i picked up the other steelbook they had for the maverik i agree that this is a very lazy release never mind on to the next.
Hey John. Her heart was in the right place but unfortunately it is a very lacklustre release especially when you consider how phenomenal the movie itself is. Normally I can find something positives with editions like this but unfortunately I'm struggling. I am actually thinking about returning its and picking up a Steelbook edition. Thanks for stopping by my friend
With it making so much money at the box office and being in cinemas for an extended period, you would expect something outstanding. It seems rushed with no imagination.
I was thinking the exact same thing myself. You just know somewhere down the line they will bring out another deluxe release for both of these movies. Unfortunately I am returning this edition and I'm going to try and get one of the singular steelbooks. It's a real shame
@@millerman9991 after watching this video,I’ve put both steelbooks on my list. They are around £30-35 on Amazon. But top gun is out of stock,I’ll keep my eye open else where.
Hopefully Top Gun will come available for you. I was told there is a beautiful Steelbook edition of Maverick on Amazon Germany that comes with a lovely lenticular cover. I might try and get that
Hey Stephen. It's a weird release because it's so widely available that I could see it dropping down to as low as £45 in time. I'm actually thinking about returning it and getting my 70 back. Very underwhelming for such a wonderful movie. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out
I had a quick look and I think right at the end of maverick Goose’s son looks at the pictures on the wall in the hanger and they are the same pictures in the box set. So a nice touch I guess
Well there you go at least that makes a bit of sense. Fair play to you for actually noticing that because it never entered my head. There's two items in this set that makes sense. Things are looking a little brighter 😆 🤣
As you might remember Keith l purchased it back in December but l sent it back for a refund £100 yeah it's £70 now I think the steel book/disc artwork is truly disappointing as with the cover of the set casing
James I am doing the exact same thing as yourself and returning this edition. I actually think this will go under €50 in time and I'm even question whether or not I would pick it up then. It just doesn't make me happy and I don't see the point in having something that doesn't make me happy. It's such a shame and I'm sure you're the same as myself because the movie is phenomenal and it deserves better. Thanks for stopping by my friend
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it Mark. I think you're the first person that ever said that. But if it's not for you then it's not for you and I completely understand that
Hey David. I didn't go near the Godfather collection because I wasn't too sure about it. Just out of curiosity what would you think is a fair price for that edition because I actually had a chance to buy it on Amazon Italy before Christmas for €50.
@Euphoria Pictures 50 and below is fine. In the states it sells for over $100. You have to be skeptical with paramount releases. They do alot of rush jobs.
A very boring box set, it looks very cheap. I don't think it is even worth £50. I have the individual film steelbooks which are way better. Flog it Keith.
That's exactly what I am going to do I'm going to return it and get my money back and do what I should have done in the first place and what you done pick up the steel book editions. It's such a shame because the movie is fantastic
still £70 too much, I never liked the look of it the package, the movie is phenomenal, and my steel book is more than sufficient. its a massively lazy set.
Yeah like I said in the video I think 55 €60 would have been fair. I don't like one single aspect of this edition and I should have done what you done Martin and just bought the steelbook and left it at that. Thanks for stopping by
Looks awful and cheap.Sprayed silver is always a bad sign. I got the Star Trek motion picture box set and that was the same cheapo as this Oversized flimsy skinny box. Not opened it as I saw it opened on YT and all mine are still sealed until I sort my storage out 1 day . As for the film it ripped off Star Wars woke actors fwemale pilot Bronx pilot etc Even pinches the Welcome to earth quote from Eraser and an un named enemy with the latest tech, laughable. Then throw in Behind enemy lines plot to end on and a cheesy american rugby piece at the beach.😴 Huge plot fails like fly below 100 feet through a pine forest when they can grow to 200 feet. More of a Air Combat game plot. I watched it when travelling and halfway through somebody left the fire exit door exit open, must have been doing cleaning. That was more interesting than the film. TC is great 1 of my top 3 stars but its just a fancy aircraft stunt film with a very weak dumb story. Like they were forced into it as people wanted a follow up. Good warning not to buy the box set
I don't know what it is with me with silver or grey on collectors Editions or even Steelbooks for that matter it never works out. It's a bland colour. That's actually a great point you made when it comes to Behind Enemy Lines. I never thought of it until you said it. But unfortunately for that segment of the movie it wouldn't have been long enough to compare it to it. But I see where you're coming from. I'm very surprised you weren't a fan of it Koro. As a matter of fact I think your the first person to say anything negative about it and I respect that it's your decision my friend. If it's not for you it's not for you. Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on it.
@@millerman9991 ; I think you confuse me with somebody else I am not koro ? was it somebody being awkward with you ? I use 2 youtube accounts so its not that guy I did see somebody post that is was a rip off Stealth even the poster for the film is similar ? We all like different films and tbh when you seen 1000s they can get dull. I watched Bat 21 with Gene Hackman after this way better if you havent seen it. The new Indy will be the same lacking in that film magic. As your a horror film guy then a lot of new ones will feel dull by comparison to older films. Silver White Yellow steelbooks and Orange just look awful. each to there own we all like different things and thats how it should be Mandolorian just started now thats light years ahead of that drivel Andor and Rise of Skywalker.
I completely agree, Keith. I got mine 3 days ago, and like you I was completely disappointed. Great coverage as always
Great honest review, I have to agree with you on the price and the quality, the film franchise deserves better...
@@millerman9991 Every time I launched a Aircraft that movie was in my head 😂, cheers mate 👍👍
I can only imagine what it must be like to stand on one of those Aircraft. You're a lucky man Conor
Hi Keith superb video as usual matey. Can I ask what sound set up you have please?
Thanks again for stopping by. I really appreciate it. I'm using a Samsung Q90R 7.1.4 channel sound system. It's sounds phenomenal
@@millerman9991 cheers Keith I’ll have to check it out
No problem
I agree with you the movie is flawless
I just have the 4k movie 🎥 ❤
Hey Raymond. I haven't a single bad word to say against the movie. Loved it
I bought this box set. I liked the aesthetic like a fighter jet.
Thanks again Gary. Have a great weekend my friend. All the best
I love that dog tag Keith, thats pretty cool.
Unfortunately Gary the dog tag is the only item that makes sense. Didn't care for anything else to be completely honest and it's a shame because the movie is fantastic and it deserves better. Thanks for stopping by my friend
As big as that box is, you'd think there would be an F-14 Tomcat model in there with the movies.
Great as always. I would like to see your 4K top 10.
I'm considering doing it. The only problem is trying to find 10 movies. You think you have your 10 and then all of a sudden you find another movie. Can be a real pain in the ass 😆 🤣. But I promise you it will be coming.

I haven't checked out gemini man yet. Really need to get around to it
@@millerman9991 Not for the movie story but for picture and sound 10/10.
I must look into it and see. Thanks for the heads up
Keith I was already dying as you were opening the first steelbook because you'd mentioned how grey the set already was and I knew it was going to be the boring grey/silver discs on top, classic paramount.
I also have the Sin City boxset 😀
All the best, Dan
Thanks for the honest review.
I really appreciate that and thanks for taking the time to check it out
I saw it the first week it was released at our Empire cinema on their IMPACT screen, with is their version of the IMAX screen.
Such a shame about this release, Keith.
Thank you so much for taking the time to check it out
MAVERICK - it doesn't matter how many times you've watched it. This movie looks great every time! 🤩
I honestly can't wait to sit down and watch it again. It's a shame I left it this long. Thanks for stopping by
Add me to the long list of everyone who really enjoyed the picture.
Love both these movies, saw the original 7 times at the cinema in 1986 ! now trying to decide which release version to buy 🤔
Hey David. 2 phenomenal movies and in a strange way I hope they leave it alone now because it's that fear of them ruining the franchise. There is multiple Editions out there and hopefully you can find one that's best suited to yourself
@@millerman9991 yh Keith, dread the thought of Top Gun 5 ! 🙄
My god the thought of it
I totally agree once again.
Paramount Studios defined.
I had a feeling you would stop by Neil. Paramount at their old tricks again
Glad I wasn't the only one that thought the steelbooks looked generic
I thought it was going to be one of those things where it looked so much better once you've got it in your hands. Unfortunately it wasn't the case
Nice one Keith.
Thanks buddy for stopping by. I really appreciate it
The only flaw(to me) is the static Dolby Atmos soundtrack, there is no movement at all.
@@millerman9991 I can't wait for dead reakoning too, I wouldn't blame you one bit if you got the normal steal just do another vid lol!
I might actually do that and maybe do a 4K review
Great review Keith, it looks like a very bland boxset so glad I didn't get it, there's not a lot for the price. Keep up the good work 👍
To be honest John I'm thinking about returning it and getting my €70 back.
You too John and thanks again
So glad i didn't go for this. Maveric is AWESOME movie but this edition doesn't worth the money the regular Steelbook edition will do.
I'm going to pick up the regular Steelbook myself and return this edition. I should have done it in the first place but my curiosity got the best of me. It's a shame because the movie itself is phenomenal. Thanks for checking it out my friend
Actually got this at pre order really enjoyed this set
If you enjoyed the set Kevin that's the most important thing. I just found it to be very underwhelming. Thank you for stopping by
Got the normal 4K two Film collection.
Think I'll pop the Frist film in and have a watch 😁.
I think you were the sensible one Steve. I probably should have done the same. I think I might watch Top Gun myself
@@millerman9991
I must admit (having just watched the 1st Top gun film for the Frist time in years) and really liked it , but I still prefer The Final Countdown.
I Still Haven't Seen The Final Countdown and I have been trying to get that blue underground release of it. It's strange because every time I see the cover for it it reminds me of that movie the Philadelphia Experiment
@@millerman9991
Got the Blue Underground edition worth the extra money.
Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it
@@millerman9991 I definitely want to pick up one of the steelbooks as well. I've just been waiting for a good deal on one.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before you will see a price drop on one of those Steelbooks. I'm going to wait myself
I think I might pick that one up. I was just checking it out the other day and it looks great. Thanks for the heads up Matt
It's probably the same Steelbook you're talking about it just has a lenticular on it
@@millerman9991 yeah, that’s the same Steelbook.
Perfect then that's the one I'm going for. Thanks for that Martin
Overwhelming price, underwhelming box set. 😂 I think the worst edition I own is the mediabook release of Black Sheep (2006) by Fokus Media Germany.

With it making so much money at the box office and being in cinemas for an extended period, you would expect something outstanding. It seems rushed with no imagination.

I have to agree Keith it is a rather poor edition. Poor artwork. Certainly not worth that amount of money. Possibly up to £45 but not more than that.

I absolutely agree with you David when it comes to paramount. I will wait and see if I can get it under 50
Where u bro Northern Ireland Keith my nan was from Belfast
I actually live in Meath which is an hour away from Northern Ireland.

I watched Bat 21 with Gene Hackman after this way better if you havent seen it. The new Indy will be the same lacking in that film magic. As your a horror film guy then a lot of new ones will feel dull by comparison to older films.
