  • In this video you will see all of the exterior filming locations used for 1988 Tim Burton Classic Movie. Said to be the fictitious Town of Winter River, Connecticut. All shooting took place in the small Vermont Town of East Corinth, which is roughly 5 hours north of NYC.
First stop on this tour will be the spot where the house stood. Next you will see Village Road, where the Maitland's Hardware Store was located along with the Library, Firehouse, Church and Cemetery. The Winter River Bridge area will follow, sadly the original wooden relic is now a member recently deceased. We will return once more to the site where the house stood and then finish u[ the locations tour with the Girl's School. Stay tuned until the end of this video to see the original Bridge Cover seen in the film, and where and how it's being used today.

True story: I was hired as an extra in 1986 at Culver Studios for the Michael Jackson music video: “Smooth Criminal” and during one of the breaks, we all went outside and started talking with the actors who were shooting in the sound stage next door for a movie called Beetlejuice. We hung out with Jeffrey Jones (in his green dinner jacket from the famous shrimp scene), Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder. Who knew it would be a huge hit?

@@ce3586 Probably built for the movie and torn down. I don’t know for sure but that happens a lot. They build the structures but to save money they don’t build them to any safety codes to be permanent so it’s in the contract with the municipality that they have to completely remove it and leave no trace. Again, speculation, now I’m off to find out! 😂
Edit: Tim Burton's offbeat ghost story Beetlejuice took place in Connecticut, but it was actually filmed in East Corinth, Vermont. That great old house on a hill was just a facade built for the movie and later torn down.

My aunt and uncle used to live about 4 miles away on Cheney 4 Corners road, back in ‘88 we saw the house on the hill that they built as a huge prop, but I don’t recall ever seeing the covered bridge. I do recall going into “Maitlands” (at the time of course it was McLam’s then I think it was Andy’s(?)), McLam’s was a tiny general store, I do miss it but I’m glad the history is still alive.

During our road to New England last month, we were going through Vermont and I deliberately started playing the Cd at a specific preplanned point. I timed it so that the Beetlejuice theme started playing just as we were entering East Corinth. My wife jokingly said the area reminded her of Beetlejuice because of the music playing. That's when I told her it was because we were IN the town where it (exteriors) was filmed. She had no idea I had added it as a stop to the trip :)

I love this movie! It appears after all of the work that has been done to Maitlands and the fire dept. over the years especially the removal of facades, you can see that what looks like a red round fire house bell next to the window is still there today! Thats neat! Cool video!

Cool video! Visited there in the spring of 2019 with some friends. Very friendly people. We talked with a woman who showed us a photo album full of behind the scenes photo's with stories to go with them. She and another townie also warned us not to go onto the property where the house had been, saying the woman was sick and tired of tourists. Can't blame her really.

Great tour. After years of rattlings here and there about a possible sequel to the film I figured it was all fan noise, but seeing that the house is being rebuilt pretty much confirms it’s happening. Should be interesting!

By far the most comprehensive video covering the filming locations of this movie. As a side not a co-worker of mine could talk just like the Beetlejuice character and played that role in a haunted house we put together. A four hour wait to get in.
