It's usually made with stingray or shark meat with coconut milk and malunggay leaves with varieties of chili. You can request to make it a bit spicy tho. You must also try their roasted mudfish.. and their well-known bicol express :)

I reckon you'll be pretty safe eating bats, pangolins and monkeys, but you should leave pangolins alone for other reasons.

Not so...it's educational...these people eat what's available to them and their culture. If you've visited a farm, you'd question why we eat meat! All farm animals stink, attract flies and other insects that cause diseases and they lick their genitals. Not to mention other disease like cancer, the list goes on.
Who looked at a cow with numerous flies around its anus, mucous constantly dripping from its nose and thought...hmm I bet that would go well with roasted corn on the cob and a baked potato.
Most food choices were made out of desperation, hunger and the will to survive. It also enlightens us of their culture and history....educational.

I said SHELLFISH as in crabs, clams, snails and such, they are dangerous because they can become poisonous from algae outbreaks and often are full of parasites (when wild cought obviously)
I also said MANY fruits and vegetables, not in general, there are allot of fruit and veg that have poisonous parts, or even are straight up deadly when not cooked, some examples are taro (many species are poisonous, some just the leaves and some just need to be cooked to remove the toxins) broad beans (has literally killed kids when not prepared correctly) nutmeg (if too much is consumed, it can be hallucinogenic, and a large amount could kill you)
Even eggs (wich TONS of people eat raw) could give you salmonella if they weren't pasteurized properly
Also lets not forget about how some fish, if not prepared correctly, could either make you very sick, or even kill you. For example, all salmon should be cooked, even sashimi needs to be smoked as to not get people sick.
There is literally just as much risk of getting covid from eating cooked bat as there is getting mad cow from burgers or salmonella from chicken.
Even then, the viruses you might get from bats, would take MUCH longer to kill you than eating a handful of raw broad beans, or even a whole raw cashew (wich have a toxic oil and skin on them)
Don't assume that just because you haven't gotten sick from something that you never will and that no one has, many people get sick and die eating regular "every day" food, people even make the mistake to eat the leaves of rhubarb, wich every should know of as poisonous.

Bat soup is good. I usually eat it when my dad came back from the forest. I've been eating this long before the pandemic, and I never get sick. I think eating rats has a lot more chances to get sick than eating bats

The thing with bats is that they breed like hell and 70% of North Sulawesi are still covered with rainforests. Pigs and Chicken are homegrown, no slaughterhouses, no mass production. We basically eat what we can afford. Can't blame the government because we're mostly happy as we are.
It's not a bad thing tho. Having diversity in food choices is great and worth preserving.
And they eat lots of fish. But fish is so ordinary so never make it to youtube 😁
