I sure do want to go back home. I wanted to go back the day I arrived in the new state. I've been gone since 1984. My heart still aches today. I want to go home to my home state.
In one of the units I was stationed with in Vietnam (69-70,) a 1st Lieutenant and I used to sing this song together on occasion to be reminded of how much we were looking forward to the day when we would be with our families, especially for me to be able to see my precious wife (married 6 months before deploying). In December, we will celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary.
This song, and Memories by Elvis, makes me so lonesome for past friends and family, and places that live in my heart - people I would dearly like to see one more time, and hug them, and tell them I love them.
Dang! You know you're good when Glen Campbell lets you sing the lead!! These 2 Vocal titans were second to none! My Gawd! We had some talent back in my time folks. This song written by another great, Joe South. John Denver recorded and released approximately 300 songs, about 200 of which he composed. He had 33 Albums and singles that were certified Gold and Platinum in the U.S by the RIAA, with estimated sales of more than 33 million units. Glen Campbell was one of the best- solo male artists in U.S. chart history. He released more than 70 Albums , selling over 50 million records with more than 80 songs charting. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame.
The great thing about these old TH-cam clips is that it shows the kind of entertainment and incredible talent that could be enjoyed routinely on simple network television all those years ago. Really makes me long for the "good old days." But time marches on, and it waits for no one. RIP Glen and John, thanks for the memories!
I have the original Joe South version but these two do it just fine. It would be so great if we could go back to the days when so much was so much kinder and pleasant.
MacPro8CoreMan Yes, and a polite down-to-Earth guy, too. By (lucky) chance, I encountered him before one of his concerts, in 1981. He was very sweet, friendly and funny, just like he was on TV. I miss him so much, even though I can still listen to his music and watch videos of some of his performances.
Two country boys, playing their music in heaven!!! What a jam session they are having!!! You both leave the world of beautiful memories through your songs!!! Bless you John & Glenn!!!
Man, when you're living in the past the future has already ended for yourself. Fine singer sing talent never disappeared, but Broadcast TV shows that showcase them don't earn the profits share holders want to see.
TWO EXCEPTIONAL TALENTED MEN WITH SUCH AWESOME VOICES THAT HAVE THRILLED US FOR MANY YEARS.... JOHN DENVER AND GLEN CAMPBELL REALLY KNEW HOW TO PLAY THOSE GUITARS AND SING UP AN AMAZING STORM.... SADLY WE LOST JOHN DENVER FAR TOO SOON FROM THIS WORLD.... GLEN HAS BEEN FIGHTING HIS OWN PRIVATE HELL SINCE FINDING OUT HE HAS THIS HORRIFIC ILLNESS, SO SHOCKING THAT IT HAS NOW ROBBED HIM OF ALL COMMUNICATION.... PRECIOUS MEMORIES OF TWO GREATS IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS... LOVE THEM BOTH DEARLY AND MISSING THEM.
Awesome - saw JD at the NEC in Birmingham, UK in 1986, what a great performer who had a great connection with the audience. Sadly never saw GC live but looking at some of these u tube clips shows what a great artist he was. Two genuine music legends. Thank you for sharing.
This was just absolutely delightful !! ~ ♡ I'm a John Denver fan and always liked Glen. ..God bless the both of them ....John is terribly missed and my heart breaks for Glenn ~♡
John Denver's death was tragic, but he was doing what he loved to do when he died.. It was so tragic to lose him at a young age. At least he died quickly without suffering, I imagine. I was referring to.the curse of Alzheimer's when I said it was sad how they both died. Glen ,though he lived a long life, suffered a long decline that was horrible for his family, and I'm sure scary for him.
My sentiments exactly. I discovered this video by chance and am so happy I did. It comes from a time when people were much freer and relaxed with each other. A tremendous performance.
It doesn't make me wanna go home, but it does make me wanna have hair like either of them. Once the hair starts heading south, the weather changes a lot in the life. LOL Don
Glen has been reunited with John today and I can only imagine how wonderful that Heavenly band must now sound. Thank goodness they have left us with many years of fantastic Music.
Lots of great comments about these two singers. Both wonderful and both legends, but don't forget who wrote this beautiful ballad, Joe South. Joe was a great guitar player and a great song writer. His songs get ya.
A song of my childhood. So many things John and Glen sing about, I knew them as I was growing up. A simpler time, and maybe a better time. No electronic gadgets butwe did just fine without them. Wish I could go back, time's just too busy now.
Was just listening to roger millers river in the rain and thinkin bout makin mud slides on the river bank and wearin the seat out of our britches......a blast.....didnt cost a dime
I grew up in a village with no TV, radio or much electricity period. We made up our own fun. Spent the first 11 years of my life roaming all over the hills around our village. Got filthy, got a scolding and then a hug every evening. Got my schooling at home and got a good Classical education (rivals private schools). Had a great time.
great duet of 2 superstars, beloved by millions of us... John, gone too soon and Glen on his journey... love you both and thankful for this Joe South song duet.. thank you for posting..
When this came out I was a kid. I grew up and as a middle aged man I moved to the suburb near my states largest city. I can’t believe I been gone 25 years. I miss home and wanna go home. I hope I get there.
These 2 together ❤️ wow ...they are both just pure goodness ❤ I miss them. never knew they sang together.
I sure do want to go back home. I wanted to go back the day I arrived in the new state. I've been gone since 1984. My heart still aches today. I want to go home to my home state.
Nothing more American than Glen Campbell playing an Ovation guitar singing a duet with John Denver of a Joe South song. Do miss the 1970’s.
American or not being British i love these two

. . . Just read your ‘note’ Robert, what a most remarkable achievement to accomplish. May I wish you both only what we would all wish for ourselves.
God bless you and thank you…
I sincerely hope John, Glen and Joe have all finally gone to their perfect homes.
They're probably still singing. Those concerts must be the best. So many of our great singers have passed on and play their music in heaven.
These two powerhouses singing this Joe South classic might be one of the greatest duets ever! So sad what has happened to music in the 21st century!😭
Music is so far up the creek now that it could not buy a bus ticket back to normal. Just like our society.
How many people have a song covered by John Denver and Glenn Campbell? Not many. Joe South does. Respect.
This song, and Memories by Elvis, makes me so lonesome for past friends and family, and places that live in my heart - people I would dearly like to see one more time, and hug them, and tell them I love them.
Amen to that... If only.

"These 2 Vocal titans"
YES, you nailed it.
@nelgstuart3442 Miss these 2 so much. No one will ever replace or duplicate what they had. Their TV shows were the best on TV.
My God ..Where is this kind of legendary talent today???
Where has this little gem been all my life? I like how they harmonize at the end of the song. Two magical voices coming together.
Songwriter, Joe South.
love this so much but it does help when you love the Artist
It's a Joe South composition. Listen to his, which is the best. RIP Joe South.
@@malcolmharing3744 Agree, the original by Joe is the greatest!! RIP to all three of these icons!!
JOHN HAD A BEAUTIFUL VOICE
So did Glen!!!!
two of the best guys in show business my opinion. one of the best recordings ever made. thank you!
agreed, 2 great stars no longer with us.. I miss them. RIP
Glen would engage perfectly with all of his singing partners....his expressions and eye contact creating an harmony that is a joy to watch.
so could John Denver
it was not all about Glen John was great
@@shirleyrook7111I know, and so sad that these two icons of music are both gone..😢 Those were the days!
I loved both of these guys and their music. There's no one that can make music like they did. RIP you guys!!
Those two should have done an album together.
i agree but sadly that wont happen :(

Three legends in one performance: John Denver and Glen Campell singing one of the great songs by Joe South.
Beautiful !
I was wracking my brain trying to encapsulate this video in words. Then I read your comment and saw the job was done. Well done.
Fell in love with this song by Joe South. But I fell in Love with Glen first, who can sing ANYTHING well. But add John Denver and .....OMGosh ❣️🎶
I wish these two had released this song without the funky 70s background music. Then it would be timeless .......🎶
Trivia: Joe went "Down to the Greyhound station"; not the railroad station.
Nice to see two great guitarists and vocalists perform together on such a great song.
A Joe South classic song by two classic singers.
I have the original Joe South version but these two do it just fine. It would be so great if we could go back to the days when so much was so much kinder and pleasant.
Those who never knew these two men, missed out on great talent. We will never see this talent again; including those who wrote such music. RIP.
John Denver. One of the best voices ever.

John was part of the Chad Mitchell trio in the early 60's. They had great harmonies as well
And now there's a residential development where the drive in show used to be, and an office complex where the drag strip was.
