install of a Freespirits X-pipe / Decat on a 2017 Triumph Bobber. www.freespirit... As mentioned in the video here is the link to the free spirits install • Triumph Street Twin De...
Just finished installing my motone X pipes. I figured out what that extra rubber grommet that you had laying around. There's a rubber grommet between the frame and the radiator. I noticed mine popped off while I was putting everything back on. My also be that tinging sound you're hearing.
Hey Tech. Look what Gasser Customs did to my bike over the weekend. They used my bike for the mock up and gave me the pipes. Highly Recommend!!! Adam is a great buy and the pipes sound amazing!
Thanks Jeff! I have had a lot of stuff going on which has prevented me from editing some videos as well as it being too damn hot to ride. I will hopefully get back in the swing of things soon.
I've been wanting to do this to my Bobber Black to make the exhaust sound louder. As of now I think you can barely hear them. I heard performance wise it makes a difference as well. It was either doing this or getting Vanes and Hines slip-ons. Why did you decide to go with Freespirits instead of Motone x-pipe?
NARBE VAGHARSHAKIAN As a matter of fact yes. I installed the BC customs Drag pipes after having them Ceramic Coated black. I have a video of the install as well.
I was of the impression that after the installation of an x-pipe, the engine was started and allowed to cycle through the cooling fan kicking in, before revving the engine. At that point, the engines computer has adjusted to the new exhaust flow. Is this an unnecessary step? I just installed a Motone x-pipe on my Bobber Black, following this procedure, and it runs perfect! Throttle response is noticeably better, along with a much throatier sound!
It is a necessary step, and you can always redo it if you want. The ecu is a learning thing in the beginning. And all you do with the cycle is reset the ecu to a new beginning. So that it can relearn the bike the more you ride.
Did you ever manage to fix that tinny sound? I have just fitted a Motone X pipe and had the same thing (no surplus grommet though!). Can’t pin down where it’s coming from...
Hi I’ve seen your video with the bc dragpipes installed and they sound great the xpipe alone did it make much difference to the sound ? I’ve purchased both to instal but wondering if xpipe worth the effort or just take back for refund ??
I installed the drag pipes before the x-pipe so I really couldn't answer that question other than I did notice more "bark" on deceleration from the pipes after the X-pipe install.
Motorcycle ECU are not self-learning as automotive ECU. They are very simple systems in comparison to the automotive counterpart. Any time you free up the intake and exhaust, ALWAYS tune the system (power module, ecu flash, or both). Running lean will give your engine a slow death.
Direct from manufacturers is also the "break-in period" where RPM is said to be restricted until X amount of miles. It's garbage. Only a manufacturer covering their behinds to avoid law suits. An automotive system is self-learning because it relies on air temp sensors, mass-air flow sensors, multiple O2 sensors, many other feedback systems keeping the a/f ratios in check. Motorcycle fuel injection systems are much more simple without the complexities of automotive systems. Even without ANY exhaust or intake modifications, the manufacturer isn't concerned about optimal stoichiometric ratios and engine life. They are concerned about Euro4 compliance which means lean fueling, lots of heat, air-injected into the exhaust post-engine.
PizzaLucaNYC I dont have the TEC so I cant talk about their build quality. The biggest take away I can tell is that the FreeSpirits allows you to use your stock heat shield from the CAT. This does two things, keeps excess heat from going where it shouldn't and two, it allows a somewhat stock appearance. If you live in a state that fines you for removing such things a little cloak and dagger can go a long way to avoiding a ticket.
Tech4hire the TEC uses same heat shield, so it seems like the same product for $173US. Luckily I'm registered in state of CT with no emissions for motorcycles
After looking at it close it looks like the TEC are two individual pipes welded together as opposed to the Freespirits where it looks like they are an actual x pipe (meaning they share the same pipe at one point). Not 100 percent sure....nope say another picture. I have no idea.
I just finished fitting x pipe on my thruxton 1200r ( o boy, what a nightmare that was ) and had to remove the radiator just to place that grommet back to one of the bottom pins.
Is there performance difference vs stock? because manufacture specs are made to match the bike. let me know if u or anyone know. by the way good install vid.
I haven't put it on a Dyno but I would expect somewhere around 5hp/5Tq. The difference is in the powerband. Would probably see a larger increase at different RPM's.
Nice job and thumbs up, but you should really cut these vids down in length. This vid could have been WELL under 10 minutes, easy. I’ve never heard of torx being called ‘star’. I had to look it up, but you’re right. Star is the generic nomenclature for torx. I’ve always only said torx.
True the vids do tend to be a bit lengthy. I've done short vids and get blasted. I do long vids and I get blasted. It's tough. I figured give them the whole shot and let them trim it down and skip through it if they want.
Best TH-cam video I've found to install X pipe on Triumph Bobber. Great job!

Free Spirits includes very detailed instructions which are very easy to follow.

Pretty cool man, we are going to have to compare a muffler change versus a de-cat.
super Video sehr gut erklärt Dankeschön
I hear you, brother. I decatted my T120 on a Winter day with the temp in the garage hovering around 35 degrees. I still sweated my a** off.
I just put remus pipes on my '17 T120 and ordered a meerkat xpipe. Was it a tough install/issues? Cant wait
Hey can you go thru the torque setting for all of the bolts, etc…?
Miss your vids brother! I hope ya got more on the way!

The freespirits x-pipe looked to be a great quality piece. I believe at the time Motone did not yet make theirs.
@@Tech4hireOnline thanks for the video. It's something to consider when checking out my options. Ride safe 😁🏍️
How different is this from installing an xpipe from british customs on a 2022 bobber?
Hey nice bike man. Did you also add the British customs drag pipes to this?
NARBE VAGHARSHAKIAN As a matter of fact yes. I installed the BC customs Drag pipes after having them Ceramic Coated black. I have a video of the install as well.
+Tech4hire awesome! No issues with no back pressure?
NARBE VAGHARSHAKIAN Not as of yet.

Not sure, might be the case. I never waited for the fan to kick on before revving the bike and mine runs great.
I loosened the X pipe, refit the pipes and tightened it down again and it went away.
Is there any fuel mix adjustment needed?
billy bob None needed as the computer will adjust. If you want the full potential it will need to be tuned.
Thanks for reply! I think I’ll try just the dragpipes first then see how she sounds !
Rather than using the decat, can you eliminate the routing and just run the pipes the traditional way?
Robert Browne Like running straight pipes? I'd imagine you would need a reflash at that point and probably lose a little low end torque.
You must live in FL. Summers are hellish.
LedFingers Bakersfield, Ca. Gets hot as sh1t here.
Hey it does not appear that you had to do any tuning work? No changes to the computer on the dyno?
Nope. Because the ECU is self learning it will adjust. In order to get the most benefit i should get a tune for optimal performance.
Motorcycle ECU are not self-learning as automotive ECU. They are very simple systems in comparison to the automotive counterpart. Any time you free up the intake and exhaust, ALWAYS tune the system (power module, ecu flash, or both). Running lean will give your engine a slow death.
Direct from the manufacturers website..."Thanks to the new "original self learning system", no needs to add map or additional fuel unit."
I was told that too "L". I think if I add the xpipe I will have Gasser do it and retune also just in case.
Direct from manufacturers is also the "break-in period" where RPM is said to be restricted until X amount of miles. It's garbage. Only a manufacturer covering their behinds to avoid law suits.

Is there a quality/build difference in the TEC x-pipe vs Freespirits? $100 difference online...

PizzaLucaNYC I did not know that. Not sure what to tell you without one in my hand.
After looking at it close it looks like the TEC are two individual pipes welded together as opposed to the Freespirits where it looks like they are an actual x pipe (meaning they share the same pipe at one point). Not 100 percent sure....nope say another picture. I have no idea.
Tech4hire question is what gets your vote for best sound with x-pipe? Vance, Zard, Gasser?
That rubber grommet came out of the radiator bottom pin.
Greg Sydney I will have to check that out.
I just finished fitting x pipe on my thruxton 1200r ( o boy, what a nightmare that was ) and had to remove the radiator just to place that grommet back to one of the bottom pins.
Greg Sydney there enough room to pull the radiator without draining it?
jup that is why it has a tingie sound that you tried to explain
Is there performance difference vs stock? because manufacture specs are made to match the bike. let me know if u or anyone know. by the way good install vid.
T Bond it is much brighter, covers the corners well and does not need to be adjusted vertically.
Sounds awesome man
Accent was pretty dead on pal 🏴🏴🤘🏻👍🏼
How much hp do you got with the xpipe?
I haven't put it on a Dyno but I would expect somewhere around 5hp/5Tq. The difference is in the powerband. Would probably see a larger increase at different RPM's.
Thank you!
Did you just lay a bare chrome pipe in your bare garage floor? Yikes… with no pad!
nice exhaust!

Really? Take no notice of this know-it-all 🙄😂 he needs to get out more. Video length is fine and TY for this guide 👍🏻
LOL. you forgot a grommet
Yep! Goes to the bottom of the radiator. Have to pull the frame rail again to put it back in. Its still sitting on my bench because screw all that.
What a pain in the effin arse
It wasnt really that bad. I would just recommend doing the pipes at the same time since you have to take them off anyways.
The modern bikes are NOT known to leak oil. Something is wrong with your bike.
