Eh? You have links to the pre-orders on Amazon US, but no links to the Amazon Japan from where the item is available now, on stock, and from which you definitely bought this unit from? And you don’t even mention this directly in the video? Isn’t it a bit strange, given you profit from Amazon US sales from your channel? I think people should know straight how they can access the same hardware you have now in your hands. You are already the second American youtuber that I see reviewing this unit, but not telling people that you can buy one right now.
Hey Madlittlepixel, you can press I + II on the Ninja Gaiden menu and it would switch to English language for the game.
Is that for every Japanese game?

It's when the video feed isn't scaled perfectly it's causing the backgrounds and sprites to sort of wiggle during scrolling.

Looking forward to the deep dive, great vid.... you nailed my sentiments on this thing 100% it’s great, but it’s not perfect. I’m thinking with modding you can hopefully do like on Hackchi where you can delete and then re-download titles and run them with retroarch to get the buttery smooth pixel scaling.

To be completely honest, this is the only Mini console I'm interested in.
6:55 that pronunciation of 忍者龍剣伝 is hurting my ears, lol. The "R" sounds are hard to get right. Especially the "ryX" sounds. My pronunciation probably isn't much better. Like if a native speaker heard me say it. It would sound just as bad to them.
The TG16 Mini is supposed to support 4-player. With Bomberman, this is a solid deal.
You need the Turbo Tap for that though. It’s being sold separately for all 3 versions of the mini.
Turbo tap (or any usb hub) will support up to Bomberman's five player battles!
This mini could be more successful than the original system was in the US market. 😁
It may well have been if not for the horrible timing of the COVID pandemic making getting one here a huge effort. Poor Turbo; they can never catch a break.
Without interpolation the shimmer is pretty normal do the fact that modern displays have a fixed resolution. The turbo grafx/pc engine has a lot of resolution modes, on top there are often altered from the programmers to fit there needs. There is no way to display the games without pixel distortion on a modern display in one output mode... On the other hand, it can not be too hard to implement interpolation, like Nintendo did with the snes mini. Its a missed opportunity!

Any luck on getting generic USB controllers to work?
I think the slightly cropped option does away with the shimmering (integer scaling). What I don't like about the HDMI output is that it is limited range, so no full blacks for me. I really love the console, and even bought a multi-tap and 4 wireless 8bitdo controllers. 5 player Bomberman 94 is so much fun. That title alone is worth spending 250 bucks on the console and controllers. The AI of the bots on multiplayer BM94 is pretty good, and fun to watch 5 computer players battle eachother. Also fun is do team match 1 against 4 com players.... Really tough!
This is an outrage! Konami is really lame! They never deliver us a great Castlevania and ignored the Silent Hill games... AND! I want to see a Turbo Grafix 16 mini on the stores but got delayed and the other one's got canceled in America..... Screw Konami!
I like the UI. M2 did good with the Sega Genesis mini and this. DAMN CORONA VIRUS....I WANT MY TURBO GRAFX 16 MINI.
Maybe the hacks later on can do something about the simmering by unlocking the emulation settings thats only if Konami pulled a ps1 classics. Its worth a shot to try if a usb keyboard pressing esc will do something. Lol. The issues I agree with you from your review as you pointed out clearly seem to turbo switches? KONAMI HAD 1 JOB! That's what got to say about that. The scanlines are not great at all. Then again how many people prefer to play on scanline modes in 2020? Not much only hardcore fans/ several retro video game enthusiast in total population of retro gamers. They still could had made it better somewhat. The simmer..... I didn't notice it at all until you mention it. It doesn't bother me but you said is worse on some games, that shouldn't be bad either way. The price tag.... this thing should cost about the same as sega genesis mini. For 100 bucks for this nah I don't think so. A Raspberry Pi 4 at 4gb ram would cost less than this. I would most likely to buy by the Japanese version over the tubographix 16 design maybe.
I still play with scanlines on. I know a lot of people don't feel the same but it is what I'm use to from my youth. If what ever machine I'm playing has shitty implementation, then I won't use it. Most of the playing would be on Retroarch with shaders. The mini consoles would be for collecting or to share with my kids. Definitely will be waiting for a price drop on this.
I wish to remade classic console all and with update grafix and satting play game remake.... 👀
Wish Cosmic Fantasy 2 and Dragon Slayer was on this. Oh well still a great mini-console.

Most people can't. It's just something that people who are OCD about emulation complain about. It's rarely noticeable to most people.
@@Johnnygrafx its very noticeable on an hdtv if you are using game mode, if your tv has filters on then you wont notice it, but you may notice the lag. Compare 4:3 nes mini vs snes mini with a sidescroller and shimner is super obvious.

I'm waiting patiently for my TG16 I preordered day 1. It comes with 1 controller, and Amazon only shows white Hori pads. Do you know if Amazon will have black controllers? Hate to have 1 white, 1 black.

I’m still (in)patiently waiting for my TG16 Mini, but the game list is where I have an issue. (Again, still buying it) Text-heavy games should have been translated (Snatcher, I’m looking at you!) and I can’t believe the “Legendary Axe” games are missing.
What I find most interesting is that the interface looks like a cross between the Nintendo and Sega classics: Game selection looks almost identical to Nintendo’s offerings and the save screen looks just like Sega’s.
How long is the TG16 mini being delayed? I saw Amazon says ships December 31, 2020!

I ordered it hopefully the hacking community mods this. That shimmer strains my eyes, super annoying. Snes mini had the Interpolation and it looked incredible.
I cannot see any shimmer at all. So I guess it will not bother me. My old eyes barley notice a difference when watching HD over SD anyway.
Looks a really nice device overall. Have you tried the different display modes to see if any of them eliminate or reduce the shimmering?
I added Turbo Grafx-16 Games on my NES classic all ready .. its senseless to get it..

Playing Rondo I had an issue with the d-pad: when using special weapons, especially when jumping, the character sprite turns right instead of left and vice versa. Led to much frustration at boss fights. I wonder if anyone else is having this issue.
Hold down SELECT when choosing some of the CD-ROM games and you get error messages when it loads the wrong system card.
There are also secret games (highlight Tokimeki Memorial on the main menu & press Select twice to access Force Gear, or three times to access Twinbee Returns! here's the code in action, listen for the chimes for confirmation). If you hold down select on Gradius you get the arcade version. Do the same thing with Soldier Blade you get the 2 minute mode, and with Fantasy Zone you get a special version. It's amazing all the cool secrets on this,.
I'm finally getting Turbografx 16 Japanese version and I also wanted to get it for a personal reason. My real mom played the game Parasol stars and she liked playing it with me growing up. I feel great buying the system and only wish my mom could see it after all these years. She was a good mom and sadly passed away on July 4th, 2003. Her memories will live on and she watches over us everyday.
I didn't pre-order this, because I have too many plug & play consoles as is, and I would rather have my games be put together in one platform however I can. My Nvidia Shield TV has pretty good emulation, but I would like the option to play legal copies of games if possible. That's why I'm currently looking into the Polymega, hoping it doesn't suck.

I love all these mini systems and all, don't get me wrong, but this... there's literally nothin on here I'd want to play for more than 60 seconds. And for what, 100$? ... nah. pass.
I have a turbo Grafx and a core grafx so idk if I should get the turbo mini and maybe eventually get an original Pc engine or the pc engine and not, it'd be nice to have all three original consoles and I collect other models of consoles but the pc engine is just a lesser core Grafx that uses rf and every mini I have is the English/American version

I want one, but don't want to deal with Amazon's budget brand couriers and their less than helpful customer service. I'm watching PlayAsia's listings to see if it comes in.
It's kind of weird. Presumably some of these RPGs that are in Japanese on the mini had a US release, so the US versions of the roms should be available? I'd say they wanted to just make one interface for the three consoles and be done with it, but there are a handful of exclusive games on each one from what I gather, so I'm not sure why they didn't include both versions of the roms. :-\

Games look great regardless a little shimmer which I didn't notice until it was pointed out. As for the games there shouldn't of been duplicates of Japan and USA games.
Good reviews! On this & the Turbo Graphx mini, in the other video. Blasts from the past, when I was playing on Sega & Nintendo. I'd considered these, nice to get views or the modern reiterations! Might consider some retro-gaming that I didn't indulge in.

I got this yesterday. I only played a few games but in Dracula X I had d-pad issues when using special weapons. I’d shoot right and go left and vice versa.

Great video. The PC Engine Mini looks pretty good, but emulation wise it looks like the Raspberry Pi emulates better. In your opinion is that true, with the shimmer etc??? I would be interested to see a comparison between them as well.

It seems to be flopping hard so normally you would expect the price to go down, but because they fixed the price by being Amazon exclusive and production hasn't been going at full rate either it's hard to say what will happen. It could be dirt cheap by next year or it could end up limited run and more valuable.

It may be more pronounced on some, but it will be there no matter due to how some of the games were scaled

If the manufacturers just put shimmer in the settings, people would be playing with scan lines and shimmer on Max. Lol
I can't believe that they didn't put Snatcher on this in English! The only way to play it officially is the spend hundreds of dollars on an old copy on eBay. All they are doing is making more people emulate it because there is no other reasonable option out there.
Was there ever an English version on the PC Engine? I thought it only was on SEGA CD.
If you are a fan of pcengine/tg-16 then this is a good option. Especially if you play a actual tg16 using rf input lol. If they would have used better interpolation then you wouldn’t notice shimmer. Or have a custom display option to set it pixel perfect. On r-type you won’t live long enough to notice the shimmer lol
It was good for me. My PCE duo having severe audio issues.
I like the shimmering in a way. It feels like the sprites are about to scale out or in.
It looks awesome! I just don't know if its worth putting money down when I already have a Raspberry Pi that does this stuff, and does it darned well, too with all of the games I want to play. It's certainly more of a solution for those who just want a good quality plug and play console!
By the way, maybe I'm dumb, but I don't notice any shimmering. It looks great to me. Maybe it's TH-cam compressing the image and making it harder to notice.
The Pi is pretty bad as emulation station. To get it going, you easily spend 100 bucks on a setup. A Mac Mini for half the money is better at the job. I did get this though. It is super cute. And it will retain its value. Also I get shivers thinking how to set up a Pi or Mac to play bomberman with all 5 players.
The shimmer seems pretty minimal to me, and I'm a big time TG16 fan. I don't think anybody who's not obsessive with perfection should worry about it.
Its there, but not every game has it. I don't think too many will care, but it is odd with M2 doing the emulation. It will only distract those who fixate on it I suppose.

Seems like maybe only games which scroll 2 pixels per frame has it. At least something like that (looks like that in R-Type tome, the Amiga version does as well scroll 2 or 1,5 pixels per frame instead of fluend 1 pixel per frame). The TV itself will maybe produce such effect then, and not the emulation is to blame.

All 3 versions are available to buy from Amazon Japan, mine took 2 days to deliver in the UK.
I still recommend buying from a Ebay reseller. I hear a lot of rampage stories for the shipping by Amazon. On Ebay the seller is responsible for packaging. On Amazon they just use the box itself as packaging and apply a sticker to it.

Got mine today. So cute and small. Wish they’d done the Famicom mini like this and just made it slightly smaller. The controller for those is way too small.
I like it a lot, but the choice to have the power and HDMI ports under a removable cover is a mistake. I mean, they’re necessary to use the console, so why cover them at all? Also, and this is a major nitpick, I wish it had a card to put in the slot!
Snes classic has the same cover on the controller ports . Its just a way to replicate the original. But this cover not being attached to the unit like the snes I can see it geeting easily lost

Or use an Turbo controller with an adapter for USB. I’d like to that anyway. Having ghost presses in d-pad in the up region.
Can someone recommend a good og nec to usb adapter that works for sure on the mini? I have original 90s NEC pads ready to go. I hate the Hori pad that comes with the mini. Especially when playing the shmups.

I did. Only bc I prefer the PCE and the uncensored Splatterhouse over Salamnder and a Turbo controller. Nice stroke of luck it’s the only one not delayed. 😃
