"What woman would leave Mark, for crying out loud!" BEST comment ever, Dominika. 🤣 In all seriousness, though, it seems as if his guitar is truly an extension of himself, which I think is part of the reason for that intimacy that the listener feels. How lucky we are to partake of his genius. Another wonderful review from both of you.
This is an absolutely brilliant track from their Communique album..Dire Straits then had guitars and drums and not much else.. they didn't need anything alse either, they were that good.. there was a purity in their music which stayed with us through decades..I also love the later albums which were more elaborately produced and ofcourse the solo albums of Mark..but I always go back to the time when Mark was young and produced breathtaking music with his band mates..that magical voice and the clean notes from his guitar.. brilliant.
Dire Straits started after Marks first marriage ended. This song probably was written from this experience. Mark is an amazing player (My Favorite) but it’s the emotional way he plays it that takes Marks playing to the next level. His word skills is second to none. Why he can write songs about anything and you buy into the story.
True and another interesting fact, every Dire Straits song on every studio album are arranged in chronological order as the events occurred throughout Mark's life. Not only is MK one of the greatest guitarists ever to grace us with his extraordinary talent, but he is a lyrical mastermind.
Here's what people don't seem to understand. Communique is a masterpiece, pure and simple. No sophomore jinx. They killed their second album. Lady Writer, Once Upon a Time in the West, News, Single Handed Sailor, Portobello Belle. There's simply not a bad track. In fact, they're all amazing!
Hello, my name is Jose, I am from Malaga, Spain and I am a great follower and fan of Dire Straits. I am very happy that you have discovered Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler and that you like them a lot, today it is difficult to find people who like Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler that's why I love your reactions to the videos you post of them. I wanted you to see the song Down To The Waterline live at the Rockpalast in 1979, you would love it, a big greeting and I love Dire Straits!!
Happy New Year! Thank you for another wonderful reaction! Dire Straits early work is really something special. I think you would love any of the songs from the first two albums and this entire concert is fantastic - try 'Lions', 'News', 'In the Gallery' or 'Follow Me Home'. 'Wild West End' is also a must listen, but can't decide between the studio or live version!
Great video 😊 Dominika, if you really want to fall in love with Mark's emotional guitar playing, you HAVE TO check out 'Are We In Trouble Now' from him. The studio version is magnificent, but seeing him perform it live on 'A Night In London' is something else. For me, it's one of his best guitar works. Not flashy, not superfast, just some delicious playing with lots of emotions ❤️
I agree, that solo is magical. For me, the studio version is the best, but seeing him with that guitar live is also wonderful. They played it with the Notting Hillbillies in Shepherds Bush Empire, also a great live version worth checking out 🙂
Wow, I'd never heard this version of the song. Thanks for the reaction guys, you picked another great one. I love the studio version of this song. I quite often listen to it in the car or while I'm working. I can't imagine you'll ever find a Dire Straits song that you don't like. I very much share your love of Mark Knopfler. The guy is just a genius, and he's so humble and down to earth. Thanks for the reaction, and happy holidays and new year both!
Pure emotion from you! Thank you. It's the music of my life. Since I was young and it still is. Happy new year to both of you. Keep on going! Linus from Switzerland
I think his relationship with the guitar is special because he is a fingerpicker, both of hands are in contact with the guitar, and it does make a difference.
Hi there, thank you for reacting to this song. It has always been one of my personal favorites. I wish you a happy new year. ´Hope you’ll react to plenty of other DS and Mk songs! There are 2 great studio versions for this one : the 1st was recorded for the album Communiqué and released in 1979 and the second was an alternative version released on the Money For Nothing compilation in 1988. Check them out!
@@beauprezze Just plug the band name and LP Communique into youtube search bar or this link has all the songs on LP #2 w/song you like. Song #1 is also a banger. Every song actually. Enjoy. @@beauprezze Sorry, but this channel owner seems to delete my reply to you with links to the studio version. I guess he does not want ppl leaving his channel. Not very helpful. Going to add link to LP #1 when I noticed my reply w LP #2 and reply were all deleted. Try one more time. Good luck.
I think it's fair to say that you two have joined the throngs of Mark's fans from around the globe who appreciate the combined musical and lyrical talent he possesses. It is a paradox because this fan base exists despite the limited commercial fanfare/idol worship he has experienced. Aside from the album Brothers In Arms and the period around it, Dire Straits always had an "also ran" type of presence, commercially. Yet Mark's songs and performances have lasted and proved their quality. And as his experience and ability have matured, so have his creations. Great reaction to a great song (but the studio versions ARE better quality)
Hello Andrei and Dominika. I enjoy your channel very much. Happy New Year to you! I have a question. If I submit a song request and there are several versions of it available on TH-cam, do you choose the version of the song, or am I able to choose? Example: One version is the artist performing, and another version is just an album cover. Please let me know how I am able to let you know which version I prefer. Thank you so much! Carlos
The original DS line up, & some say the best. Either way Mark's guitar work is exceptional & instantly recognisable. I wanted that solo to go on & on like they did on the later album live tracts. Great reaction & have a great 2024.
As for Mark's brother leaving I am quite sure that wasn't after this Rockpalast performance, cause look at Mark, he was so much younger than when they did the Alchemy concert with his brother still in it.
Great start to the year 2024 and what a motif❤, one of the highlights of the second album for me at the time, what a guitar, unfortunately this song no longer played live later. The first two albums were still focused entirely on the guitar(s), somehow simple, but unique and ingenious. Sure, MK had to open up and develop musically (equal keyboard player), which he achieved on the next two albums.
happy new year! great reaction! continue checking out rockpalast ;) many good songs. he has also done some really good celtic like songs! a night in summer long ago / haul away. also after dire straits he joined some old friends in a band called the notting hillbillies. you should also check out the notting hillbillies live at snape 1990. an incredible live performance!
Again, Dire Straits didn't disappoint and neither did you, my favourite reactioneer couple of all time. You are as much gold as are the songs of this great band. Still...you have not yet reacted to "Your latest trick", have you? I wish there was a never ending DS playlist and an equally infinite number of your reactions. I just love to see Dominika's face when Mark sings and caresses that guitar. She is a real groupie, isn't she?:) Now I think it is time for Andrei to find himself a "love" of his own. I suggest Tori Amos (WInter). Beautiful and insanely talented. Sorry, I didn't react to that Telegram invite. I am not on any Social media in order to not lose my mind. And so I can enjoy the reaction of two lovely people who remind me what the world used to be and/or should be like.
Hi, thank you for your kind comment. And just to let you know, we did not send a Telegram invitation. It's a scam! Someone is using our pic to get personal information out of people. We did report it a couple of times already.
In intimate mood to play his guitar, you need to react to JEFF BECK...! and with his fingers too...David Gilmoure´s favourite guitar player...! Happy New Year from México!
Mark has a new album coming out, “One Deep River,” early April. There’s a single available on TH-cam, “Ahead of the Game.” Can’t wait, the single is Knopfler Gold, as usual.
A lot of Dire Straits music doesn't seem to be heard no, I'm trying to think of the album my brother used to have, I think that it might be Communique I don't really know how it's spelt but I think this song was on it, I loved this album and will try to get it.
Hey, me again. I think you still have a few DS songs left to peruse. Love over Gold, Your latest Trick, you haven't done these, have you? Especially the first one is stunning. Greetings from Portugal.
I can do a request because i see we love all togheter Mark Knopfler. Title is DROVERS ROAD from last solo album. There isn't a live version but not is important. Is a gem. Hallo from Italy. I follow you.
The only thing wrong with this is that solo ending is to short, can you imagine that ending being being around 6 minutes long with loads of improvisation, this would be the greatest dire straits song ever perhaps on par with tunnel of love solo ending 🥺
The entire Communique album is filled with these gems. The entire album is a gem. Absolute masterpiece
Only a true Dire Straits fan knows this song. What a great reaction video...loved the comments. Thanks
Which is a shame, because its soooo gooooooooood. Among their best imo. That riff is just so bloody tasty, I could listen to it all day long.
Rockpalast on German TV, entire concerts without advertising. Beautiful memories of great bands and concerts.🤗

One of my all Time favorites.
In Marks hands that guitar comes alive.

I totally agree, many players can play fast, but for me, to be able to play a slow, but highly melodic solo is far more impressive.

Amazing how MK goes from finger picking to strumming and back to finger picking in one motion. Stunning
Love your reactions. Mark is genius!
Wild west end , Lions , In the Gallery, Ladywritter, News, Whats the matter baby are epic too.
Water of Love as well.
This song carries so much personal meaning for me. It tears me up about a very sad thing that happened in my life.
Songs can def do that. I have a few myself
Tenéis que escuchar la canción News, está en ese directo,os van a salir lágrimas, estoy convencido

Isn't it amazing how often thoughts and emotions are not able to be put into words... language fails to express
My favorite Dire straits song but prefer the studio version. The guitar solo and tone are exceptional
Yeah 1st two LPS are master pieces in so many ways!

Beautiful raw version. I loved this era

Down to the waterline, Water of Love, so many great early Dire Straits tunes that rarely get played or reacted to.
