He may be a Scientology weirdo but he's Hollywood's most versatile actor, the swiss army knife. He's been able to adapt & thrive with the decades, with a wide variety of performances that most don't have. He's a man of the movies.

I never got a picture or autograph, I just saw him sitting there, memorizing his lines, and looking around. One thing that’s an indispensable aspect of the Tom Cruise phenomenon is simply this: even if he wasn’t a great actor or a movie star who did great action and stunts… he’d still be one of the best PRODUCERS in Hollywood history. He knows what makes movies work. He knows who needs to be on the team to make it happen. He knows how to run a production before the director is even on a project, let alone on set. If all he did was serve in the producer role, he would still be among the best.

Couldn't agree more, and as you say Magnolia is the best role Cruise has ever played. I love the interview piece, it's so well done and Tom really sells the feelings his character is going through in that scene.

What an interesting project. Depending on your tastes and sensibilities it's hard for me not to think that you're going to be watching some real bangers but you're also going to watch some real flops and the one thing you might see if you watch a whole bunch of Tom Cruise and a short period of time is the amount of intensity he brings to everything. He is one of my favorite actors on screen but not one of my favorites off screen. He's walked right up to the line of being somebody I don't have any interest in because of his off-screen antics that he's pulled himself back together and makes good movies still. I'm okay with intensity as long as is not a lot of collateral damage and it seems like he takes care of the people around him so who knows

amazing video, really well structured and great commentary
so odd but great that MI is the one long movie series most people agree has gotten better with subsequent movies, rather than slowly going downhill (even if the first one is still kinda the best)

Nice video but I sincerly disagree with the placement of Tropic Thunder and The Firm. While both may not be the best films ever made, the do not deserve to be in low to mid tier. Also The Firms soundtrack was great and helped the whole thriller vibe and Memphis setting.

Well, I wasn't expecting to stay for the entire video, but here we are. Wonderful editing, great commentary, and while art is always subjective, I can always appreciate the time needed to create thorough retrospectives, no matter the topic.
Also, that ending was out of left field and I love the shift. 😂

Tom Cruise understands what movie stars in the past understood, or rather the studios understood and that is a movie star should never be too understandable, because "familiarity really does breed contempt". People might say they want relatable entertainers, but that only goes so far, because as the internet and social media has shown us, these are also the easier targets to tear down as soon as they reveal something about themselves that people don't like.

Man, what a great video! It's so well made, super well spoken, and engaging. It's cool seeing Tom's whole legacy laid out. All the behind the scenes stuff - it reminds me of a really good dvd special making of feature about his career.
Not to mention remembering the lesser publicized movies he did in the beginning. Also, the cool little 'picking the movie' vignettes were esthetically pleasing..
Great work on the video as a whole. Subscribing!
