Definitely need a life jacket or bouancy aid as the cold water shock will catch you out.

Katie should definitely use the bits and pieces of pottery to fill in holes in the wall she is working on! They would add a little history and color. I personally think it would look great, what do you think? Sorry Katie lost her hat, but I think eventually Scot will find it washed up :)
I love this idea! I was going to suggest that she make wind chimes and sell them to viewers as historical mementos of their homestead..and they could search all seaside areas for the bits. Shells, clay, glass and pottery bits could be strung from driftwood.

Enjoy watching you guys, and what a place to live , your crossing of the river today was dangerous, your consentration was split between getting across and recovering your hat, you where fully clothed in heavy gear, and had you gone in the water with out a decent life jacket, you would of not stood a chance, even with a good life jacket you would of still struggled. I saw the boat you fancied buying, plastic boats are OK but once there holed they are not easy to repair, and in some cases impossible, your drop down bow ramp on the majority of these type of boats is plastic hinged which soon wears out, find your self a decent fibreglass boat, have a look at arran boats built in scotland, he does two different sizes, but they are good safe boats, also buy yourself some dry bags to put your hambag in, as I dare say your worthly possessions are in there. The scenery is beyond magnificent, it is majestic. It reminds me so much of northern Ontario 🇨🇦 and the Group of Seven paintings. What an absolute delight.

What an enjoyable account of your adventures in the wild Scottish Isles, I so admire your determination, courage and ingenuity taking on such a mammoth restoration project, having severe health issues that come with age I have been intrigued with all of your videos, and love your amazing pets, I have many wonderful memories of visiting Scotland with my dear late husband, it’s such a magical and mysterious place, the one thing that worried me was Katie crossing that fast running expanse of water, she is fearless, only a young Scottish relative hadn’t been married long to his English bride in the 1930s. when he was swept out to sea and lost his life, he was a gold medal swimmer…..history repeated itself in 1955 age 15 I was caught in a rip tide and wasn’t strong enough to fight against it….had it not been for a very brave young stranger who saved my life I wouldn’t be here to watch your excellent documentary with its stunning views wild weather and romantic atmosphere, Thank you 🙏 Scott & Katie for sharing, have a great Christmas 🎄 Best wishes from a Sassenach in the Derby’s Dales 🤗

Scott, what a lovely video! First of all, Katie, I am so impressed with the lime mortar! It is going to look so beautiful. Lots of work, and perhaps tedious at times, but with an audio book on, and little by little it will get done and look absolutely fabulous! (Like you!)
The boat you are looking at seems absolutely perfect for your needs too. What a find! I didn't know they existed, but they are so practical. I really hope you can find one that suits your budget. If not, buy the bullet. Rowing during a beautiful weather is fine, but weather can change dramatically too..
And I'm so sorry for your hat, I always add a strap to mine for that very reason. Here in Australia we have akubras (no straps so had to add one and look dorky!!) They are a bit dear but do last so long that overall they beat any cheap ones. I think of them for Aussies, like wellies for Scottish. So essential for our intense sun. Boat has a cathedral hull😊 very stable on water. I have a 17ft dory with a cathedral hull which I use on the Norfolk coast.

You anchor a boat at sea or off the shore in deep water , you beach it on the shore ,you moor a boat to a jetty, landing stage or river / canal bank.

Scott make sure ur not getting bit by ticks in alll that long grass - make sure your both eating loads of garlic they dont like the garlic so they wont bite you just a tip! You dont wanna be getting lymes!! Steph would make Katie a hat aswell as a dress but she doesnt do millinery hopefully someone will send her a new lovely hat great video guys lovely living :)

You have enough interesting sticks on the island, you could take up carving walking sticks as a winter project when you are renovating.
You guys really need to invest in life jackets for that crossing. If that is your only way back and forth from the mainland then please consider investing in larger boats with an outboard to handle that current. my heart was in my mouth watching that crossing. On a lighter note, loving these episodes. keep up the good work guys and stay safe.

Oh gosh I was on the edge of my seat with the hat! Was worried you’d fall in trying to get it! The scenery there is beautiful. I love the scenery of Scotland, here in the Highlands we also have the most beautiful scenery that we love to explore. Does the ground get boggy there?

I agree with fellow posters stating that you should use some of the pottery pieces. That were found, I would put them into a table top with some mortar to create a new table.
