  • If you want to make king cake this is the perfect recipe! It doesn’t have to be as hard as it looks. This recipe is pretty simple and the bread comes out so soft! I also love the cinnamon sugar filling and icing.

    King Cake Recipe
    Makes 1 King Cake
    Ingredients:
All-purpose Flour: 1 1/2 cups (180g), plus additional for dusting
    Sugar: 1/2 cup (100g)
    Instant Yeast: 1/2 tablespoon
    Warm Milk: 1/2 cup (120ml)
Unsalted Butter, melted: 2 tablespoons (28g)
    Salt: 3/4 teaspoon
    Egg, beaten: 1
    Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon
    Warm Water: 1/3 cup (80ml)
    Filling:
    Brown Sugar: 1/3 cup (67g)
    Sugar: 3 tablespoons (38g)
    All-purpose Flour: 1/4 cup (30g)
    Cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
Salted Butter, melted: 2 tablespoons (28g)
    Frosting:
Powdered Sugar: 1 cup (120g), sifted
    Milk: 1 1/2 tablespoons (22ml)
    Melted Butter: 1/2 tablespoon (7g)
    Lemon Juice: 1/2 tablespoon
    Vanilla Extract: 1/2 teaspoon
    Decoration:
Purple, Yellow, and Green Sanding Sugar or Sprinkles: As needed
    Directions:
    1. Prepare Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, sugar, and instant yeast. Add warm milk, melted butter, salt, beaten egg, vanilla extract, and warm water. Stir until a pasty mixture forms.
    2. Gradually add the remaining 1/2 to 1 cup of all-purpose flour until the dough comes together. Knead the dough in a mixer for 5 minutes on medium speed or by hand for 10 minutes until smooth.
    3. First Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
    4. Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and melted butter to create the filling mixture.
    5. Make Frosting: In another bowl, combine sifted powdered sugar, milk, melted butter, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth to prepare the frosting. Cover with plastic wrap until ready to use.
    6. Roll Out Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to approximately 10x16 inches. Cut it in half to make two rectangles.
    7. Fill and Shape: Spread the cinnamon sugar filling over the dough rectangles and roll them up into logs, similar to cinnamon rolls. Twist the two ropes of dough together and shape them into a circle, sealing the ends.
    8. Second Rise: Let the shaped dough rest for 30 to 45 minutes on the counter.
    9. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the king cake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bread reaches an internal temperature of 190°F (88°C).
    10. Decorate: Once fully cooled, spread the prepared frosting on top of the cake. Immediately sprinkle the colored sanding sugar or sprinkles over the frosting.
    11. Serve and Enjoy: Slice the king cake and enjoy its soft, flavorful texture with a delightful cinnamon sugar filling and colorful frosting on top.
    12. Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to several days. Optionally, warm slices of cake before serving to enhance their taste and texture. Celebrate Epiphany or Mardi Gras with this delicious king cake, reminiscent of the flavors and festivities of the season! 🎉👑
