I can relate to lying about how often I washed hair😂😂 This black girl asked me how often i wash my hair (it was like every 3-2 weeks) but I lied and said once a week. She sed ewww I wash my hair everyday. I was like that’s why your hair is crusty😂😂
I've lied about that too! I'm white with wavy hair. Once my hair turned grey, I had to start washing less often, twice a week at most. But my hairdresser asked how often I shampoo, and I said every other day. I just didn't want her to think I didn't have good hygiene. A few years ago I learned about co-washing, so I do that sometimes. I often watch hair care and styling videos made by women of colour, mainly because I love seeing all the beautiful hairstyles, but I've gotten some really good tips for my own hair that way.
I really wished they had someone who had locks on here! I use to get this question *ALL THE TIME* when I had them and it irked me how clueless some people were about them.
Bisss 916 what do you mean? Locs ARE natural hair, however, when our hair is locked, braided, twisted there are usually a lot of questions about the washing process. They’re long term styles and my braid care routine is much different than when my hair is down, almost like I have a different texture.
@@gl7308 ummm they are. What alot of people don't understand is that washing our hair helps it get locked and that's why we retwist them afterwards. That's also why most white people DON'T look good with dreads!! The type of hair they have......just makes it looked matted
I have extremely thick, dry hair that is also chemically treated, so I need to use sulfate free products. I always bring my own shampoo and conditioner when staying at hotels.
6 weeks without washing will actually dryout your hair and harm your scalp. Try every 3 to 4 weeks consistently for 6 months and see if you notice any difference s
Curly hair whether white or black is naturally dryer than straighter hair so yeah the straight hair that isn't dry as soon looks sort greasy and clogs the pores and roots which can cause easy more problems but curly hair sucked up those oils
Brittney Grimes Yeah it's because curly hair is naturally more coarse and it's harder for the oils to travel down the hair shaft. Even with my long, smooth, & decently straight hair I struggle with getting hair oils to the ends of my hair!
Brittney Grimes No I haven't! I have straight hair with a slight wave, but I will give it a shot for the ends of my hair. Thank you for your suggestion!
Thats actually false. Both types can be just as dry after shampooing. The main difference is straight hair wont become frizzy but dry curly hair will have a disturbed curl pattern basically every hair is pointing to a different direction = frizz. Curly hair is not as oily is becausr its thick absorbs more. Oil doesnt travel on its own without brushing
Yep, if I do was my hair mid week it's because I've been working out a lot or it's summer and I'm sweatier than normal. Oh but if I go swimming I wash with shampoo midweek.
I can go 7 days before i HAVE to wash my hair. After that point, my scalp starts gettin itchy and my hair starts shedding. Ive had to get up in the middle of the nite in the past to wash my hair when ive attempted to go beyond 7 days... weird huh? Ive heard people say they can go MONTHS without washing theirs and i have a hard time grasping that. Like hooowwww???!! But they say they have no problems. I guess everyones hair and scalps ARE different🤷🏽♀️
Akosua Fire yes you are correct everyone hair is different. When I have a sew in or a braids I don’t wash my hair for a whole month but it doesn’t bother me at all. When I wear my hair out, I do wash it more often because I am manipulating it more and adding more products, so that makes my scalp itch a lot, so I have to wash it once a week. It really depends on the person.
I used to go MONTHS without washing my hair. I would just co wash and add gel- THAT'S IT. My hair was so sad , now that I wash my hair ONCE A WEEK, it's GROWING FASTER by the day. I used to think natural hair was a breeze, but you have to nurture and pamper your hair MORE than any other hair type. But when you take good care of your hair, she will be happy and she will look out for you because your hair will be so beautiful and popping you won't even feel the need to wear weaves.
My hair need moisture and just putting products in my hair will not cut it for weeks on end. I need to wash once per week. That added water REAALY perk my hair up. If I exercise and sweat my hair gets hard, dry and break so of course I have to wash more often. I do what my hair needs and not what the trend/opinion is about hair care.
My hair does the exact opposite lol. I have to go months in order for it to be fairly normal and washes well afterwards. I only ever lose a little amount of hair unlike washing it weekly or daily where I actually lost more hair and it acted up worse. So I guess to whatever our hair really needs, we do. So if I got to wear weave, I got to do what is best for my hair.
See my hair is the opposite I only use shampoo once every 2 weeks to a month and it's on it's best behavior when I go a month. My hair is so dense that oil doesnt get to my ends and it gets way too dry too fast if I use shampoo weekly no matter how great a deep conditioner, leave in, sealer, cream I use. It's also low porosity so when i shampoo i need to sit under a dryer to deep condition so it's just a lot of work.
@@QueenFlareMay same the absolute best growth I get is when I go months with some braids. My curls be so nice when I finally take them out and wash and it's always so much longer and softer.
Some people can go weeks or even a month without washing their hair and it will be perfectly fine and healthy. It just depends on the type of hair you have.
Juli uhhh okay but you’re a white woman... you’re still considered the standard of beauty. Bye your struggle will never compare to a black woman’s struggle. Literally never will
I never said that I struggled more than you, and in fact, I agree with you that my struggle with my texture is definitely not as bad as yours. I’m just pointing out that maybe it IS a little more complicated than just the color of my skin, because even my white family members would prefer it if my hair was straight.
It honestly comes down to the individual. My mom washes her hair like once every 2 weeks. Me on the other hand, I wash it once a week. Sometimes twice a week. My hair is growing, healthy, and moisturized. I been stopped listening to all the rules, because it just doesn’t apply to everyone.

Do you find that you get a lot of breakage from detangling, I do, I even trimmed and detangle slowly and a year has gone by w no progress in growth. Do you have high porosity hair?
I wash my hair every Sunday or Friday, but I’m going to try to change that and maybe do every 2 weeks because my hair is sooooooooooooooooooooo dryyyyy!
Idk when hygiene became a popular thing and societal expectation but I thank God for that social movement. So funny how we take lil things like that for granted bc it’s just so seemless in daily life.
It doesn't make sense economically and practically. Most of us have specific hair routines and we don't all use the same types of products. A hotel would have to buy shampoo, leave in, pre poo, etc to fit several different hair routines. And what percentage of their clientele is black anyway for them to have that in every room?
My daughter has 4c hair and it's super long. I found that washing her hair every 3 to 4 weeks works best, because her hair is so dry and loves to get tangled. I add very little product (just a little coconut oil) to avoid build up which keeps me from over manipulating it. I get it straightened it every 3 months so she can get a trim and take all the knots out. I doubt her hair would be as long and healthy as it is (especially for fragile 4c hair), if I tried to wash it more often. Figure out what your hair needs and just do right by it.
How frequent people wash their hair does necessarily related to skin color or hair features. Personally, I think if your scalp is clean, not too dry or too oily, and your hair looks healthy and doesn’t smell bad, everything is ok. People have to work on find their best frequency of hair washing.
That part! I can't do too many cowashes. Maybe once a week and I've learned it has to be a true wash, not just conditioner. My hair and scalp hates it.
@@stunnadabrat8401 That’s false. Because we don’t wash our hair is why the majority of us ARE BALD!!! Everyone just thinks that we grow our slower and that’s not the case it’s simply because we don’t wash our hair!!! We pack our scalp with tons of heavy oils & butters and block the follicle then wonder why pir hair not growing
i wash every 4-6 months...and my hair has appreciated it ! my hair dries out much faster than a lot of people out there, i have to put loads of oils every day and double when i have braids, i can't do box braids unless i load up on grease or it will dry up and break...i do micro braids because i can get to it and moisturise it.......i don't wash it unless it's real itchy....and my hair has thrived .....took me ten years to learn my hair, do's and dont's. my hair does not smell because i do not use any store bought moisturisers, i make my own.
Shichen Wang Same. Also, my hair gets oilier faster in humid weather so sometimes in the summer I need to wash my hair every other day or it becomes a flat greaseball 😕
Honestly I could go months, I went a year once but now I wash it every two months, when i take out my box braids. I have 4c hair and it takes me like 3-4 hours to detangle my hair so i think it's justified
Angel Kid you should wash it more frequently, treat your hair like a plant, it needs water , vitamin d (from sunlight), and air to the scalp to grow faster
About the Lizzie McGuire element here.... people may wanna rethink shampooing just once. The first round of shampoo just washes away the superficial dirt that your hair would have gathered from the elements. But it’s the second round that does the actual cleansing. It’s absolutely important for cleansing your hair follicles which is so vital for healthy hair growth.
i have naturally very straight hair, i wash my hair once a week or less. i had to train my hair to not get greasy meaning that shampooing your hair strips the oil from your scalp sending panic signals to your scalp telling it to produce more oil the longer you go without washing your hair the less oil your scalp your hair will produce because it starts to realize it has enough it took me a very long summer of very greasy hair to finally get my hair to the point where i only have to wash it once a week
Thyme Phillips yes this is exactly what I was going to say. My hair dresser freaks out over how healthy my hair is and how fast it grows and I told her I only wash it like every 10 days, she was like that makes so much since. The girl in this video saying her hair started looking greasy on day two had me “girl no, put it up and leave it alone.” P.s. is your first name Thyme? If so, I love it.
@@corriejo3655 but then you have to put your hair up for the rest of the days till you're gonna wash it. Mine starts to look greasy after 3 days so I have to put it up but I don't like it in a ponytail. I'm trying to only wash it once per week but it's not working out for me and ofter have to do it twice or even 3 times a week😕
Brendons Forehead that make sense, I was wondering that actually about the girl in the video. Like she probably doesn’t like to wear her hair up. Mine takes about 5 days but I don’t mind wearing it up. Plus mine is really really thick. I think it’s harder for people with thinner hair to go so long
Brendons Forehead btw I’m not sure why I didn’t get this notification until today lol. But when it comes down to it, everyone has different hair and different preferences. The main thing for me is to feel good about myself and healthy. Other people’s routines don’t have to dictate yours. May you have healthy hair regardless 😁
I have tender headed and for almost all my life, I washed my hair every single day. I lost a lot of hair and my scalp used to be so red and oily... Finally, I decided to change that and I have been washing my hair just twice a week, I have to confess that it feels weird but I'm getting used to. Wish me luck!
I have straight to wavy hair. I wash it once or twice a week. When I wash it people say it looks dry, when I don't they say it looks greasy. So damned if you do damned if you don't. Now I wash it once or twice a week, IDGAF.
@Luna Lovegood I'm sure she uses conditioner lol. Do you mean deep conditioner? She doesn't need to use it more than twice a month I'm sure. Unless she colors her hair. I agree, pre poo with oils or hot oil treatment is great before using shampoo with sulfates especially.
Honestly speaking I wash my hair once a month sometimes twice a month. But starting this month of April 2019 I'm planning to wash my hair weekly. Or even 2 or 3 times a week. I hope I'll be able to do this.
In Asia we usually wash it everyday. Except in colder areas. The weather factors too as we sweat more in hot weather. Its poor hygiene to not wash often enough.
I was on a camping trip a back in highschool. A girl with the same hair type as me asked me if i was gonna wash my hair. i told her all i needed was coconut oil and i was fine, but she said “ew.” Like why? Her hair was so dry and frizzy, i wanted to help her so bad, she had the same hair as i did.
It's the fear of being called gross for not washing your hair every other day or everyday. I won't tell others that I wash it twice a week cause ppl would find me gross
I'm a tender headed person with a very sensitive scalp, always have been, and I absolutely hate getting my hair done. It's almost guaranteed that I'll cry every time, and have migraines for a few days afterwards. I tend to only wash my hair maybe once a month or so (with shampoo), and wash it with water at least once a week. P.S Omg, these women are so gorgeous. I love their hair.
It makes me happy when the girl said she needed that “greasiness”. I’ve recently started washing my textured hair less and I was kind of shocked how much healthier it looked. But it made me nervous because it felt greasy… turns out that that’s normal :)
I'm natural, but I flat iron my hair. I wash my hair every other day and it has seriously helped. I also put a light oil on my scalp every night before bed and massage. My hair is healthy and it grows like a weed now. Whether you wash daily or less often, a clean scalp is needed for healthy hair growth.
Thank you so much for this comment! I’m type 4 also, and recently switched to washing daily with conditioner weekly with shampoo, and I’m realizing it’s helping my hair also
Loved watching this! ♥️ I just started wearing my natural curls and I see what people mean when they say curly hair needs more moisture. When I wear my hair straight it gets soooo oily within 3-4 days. When I wear my hair curly I have to constantly add moisture.
I love honest, informative videos like this. Coming from a very white town, it’s too easy to be ignorant. Videos like this help me educate myself and I’m here for it💕 Even if it’s something small like hair, it can make all the difference to make people feel welcome and included.
That's true. I'm white, and my hair type's 3b (I've heard it's a Celtic thing, but I don't know for sure). The Sodium Laureth Sulfate in most shampoos is really not good for even European curly hair, but the challenge is finding shampoos that don't have it. I've essentially given up on finding one, since the cheap brand I use isn't destroying my hair and I have a good routine down that makes up for any potential damage (like rinsing with cold water, and using a little leave-in moisturiser). I wouldn't wash my hair with some strange hotel shampoo for any amount of money.
Yeah my husbands side of the family is Korean and they consider us white people having really curly hair even tho my hair is just wavy but comes to show u different groups of people view things differently
raviolii believe me when u brush out ur hair and leave the house with poofy curly hair it’s not acceptable anywhere... people will judge u and think u look sloppy, but I get what ur trying to say there is more stigma on Afro hair
I used to wash once a week. Now it’s like once a month. I just rock two strand twists for a couple weeks. Then a twist out the third week and tied up the last week. I just dab it with a moisturizer where needed. My hair has never been healthier
RainbowChocolate same. I wear protective styles most of the time where I can just wake up every day and not worry about my hair. I’ve gone 8 weeks without washing my hair and I’m not ashamed
Great video. The tender-headed girl with really long hair should try oyin juices and berries or Greg juice leave-in, it's a spray that's ultra moisturizing and won't weigh the hair down. I love & highly recommend it :)
I am a middle European, with pin straight & fine hair, I only wash my hair once a week, my hair also matts like crazy when I wet it so hair washing & drying is also a 2-3h process for me. I feel like in general the beauty industry has a one fits all approach which doesn’t work for so many people. So I am rly happy that it seem to become inclusive for all of us :)
Interesting, I always travel with my own shampoo, but I don’t have to use it. I shampoo every 10 to 20 days, more often if needed. I have type 4 B/C high porosity hair. I never thought about hotels having shampoo and conditioner for my hair type, you are right we should demand it! We spend money at these hotels that only cater to straight haired people! Most races have many textures of hair, even the blow dryers should have attachments for our textures. We have learned to take all of our products and tools with us!
@@kopistedik3542 Your hair isn't gonna get curly if you use curly hair products, they are products to help curly hair thrive not change hair type/pattern. I hope this helps so you don't waste your money
You’re hair adapts to your routine. If you wash daily, hair will over oil and needs refreshing. Honestly I think even tighter curly hair types could benefit from more frequent washing since it really helps with growth. For me my hair grows faster when I wash it more often. But only like every 2-3 days dependent on product use and styles. And utilizing co washes and discretion. If hair needs it and it’s only been two days, I’ll do it. I’ve noticed quicker growth than the once a week. I specifically think this has a lot to do with stimulating roots and opening up pores from clogging conditioners and stylers.
I wash my hair once a week.. But i also don't comb or brush my hair in that time. I always put it in a style so that I don't have to comb or brush it. And doing it this way helps my hair grow faster and stronger.
I wash my hair every day mostly because that is what makes my scalp, my skin and my hair thrive best, not because I'm trying to be something or someone other than myself. I prefer to have clean, smelling hair and I have found that it tends to smell when I don't wash it every day and break my face out, smell up my pillow and I don't like that. I also don't like the idea of piling on hair products daily as It causes my scalp to itch. I enjoy washing my hair daily, and my hair is full and grows just fine. I will continue to wash my hair every day regardless of what someone thinks or feels about it.
She needs to stop with the faces. Because the face she made along with "ugh" when the Indian girl showed the pic of her hair at its worst was was ridiculous.
Thanks for the discussion with all the beautiful ladies. It was very informative. I especially enjoyed the peice on how often do we wash our hair. Summing up depending on your hair type you can wash every day or whenever hair is feeling uncomfortable. Moisture Conditioner works for me as a co wash.
It depends on the style, sometimes I’ll wash twice a week, sometimes once every two weeks, sometimes once a month or even longer. You don’t have to wash your hair a lot to maintain its health. My 4A hair is doing great it’s down to my waist and I get it that way by leaving it alone. I’ve gone 3 months without washing my hair and if you take care of it and moisturize your scalp and keep it out of extra dirty situations it won’t stink and it will grow and maintain its health. I never understood the stigma around “needing” to wash your hair often.
Lifestyle also affects how often you wash your hair. I work in a dental clinic, and even though we wear haircaps on work, the caps arent plastic, liquid, such as saliva can still go to the hair. Basically, youll have dirty hair at the end of the day. I wash my hair every other day because i didnt want to dry it out so much. But I cant imagine going for a whole week of not washing my hair, it will smell gross and would actually start giving me acne because its dirty.
Me too I wash it 4 to 6 weeks depending on what style I am wearing. I feel like we dont have to explain ourselves to other races of people Just do what's best for you
But I wash my very very very thick and long 4c hair every 2 weeks . If I don't have time I will stretch it to 3 weeks. But if I don't wash my hair for a month I will be bad
I have learned that washing my hair too often and using different chemicals in it for coloring or styling was ruining my hair. I stopped coloring, stopped styling products except for some hairspray and wash my hair once every three weeks. Also, I never use a brush anymore, just a wide toothed comb. I have no problem telling anyone that when they ask me what do I do that has changed my hair so significantly. I use Dr. Bronner's liquid soap for my hair and skin. Nothing else. My hair has stopped falling out and looks great. I am so happy with it. BTW, you gals all have absolutely gorgeous hair!!!
I took my braids out like a month ago after them being in for two weeks and usually I wash my hair straight after but I was feeling a bit lazy so 1 week turned into 2 and here I am a month later and haven’t washed my hair 😂😂😂😂 but I’m feeling fine no biggie ( I have 3b/c hair )
8:27 OH GIRL, that stuck with me!!!! I never saw it like that before. My friends always look down on me for having to check a bag or go to the store to purchase products, but it’s like, I don’t have the luxury of just using whatever a hotel or Air BnB has. I wish, but that’s not my reality.
I wash and deep condition every other week cut my ends once a yr and my hair grows fine also use coconut oil for strength and it helps with breakage and softens my hair
I have straight hair but often dye my hair with semi dyes in different colors like pink and purple. Something that people who don't dye those vibrant colors realize is that with each wash the color can fade pretty significantly and so most hairdressers I've talked to have told me to go as often between washes as I can to keep the color longer. When I have had people ask how often I wash my hair and I tell them 3-5 days or until it gets too greasy I've had some people tell me that's gross or that I SHOULD wash every other day but it's nice to have people talking openly about their washing routines and how different it is for different hair types
Oh my god! When Foluké said that thing about the Lizzy McGuire show.... I remember that episode. That exact moment opened my eyes! I remember being like, "Wait? What? People don't have to follow the shampoo bottle? There aren't hard and fast rules for hair care?" I'm just really... amazed someone had the exact experience I did, wow
I'm one of those tender headed people and it really hurts when people combed my hair or the hair stylist does something. One time I had my hair done for our prom school and I just couldn't stop myself to cry because the way they blow dried my Hari really hurt. People should learn to be gentle and now the needs of different people I'm glad they mentioned That in this video were they show different people with different methods of taking care of their Hair base on what type of Hari they have.
Lol this topic always cracks me up personally I never lied about it like yes I wash my hair once every week by senior year it was every month because I was on the whole cowash train. We have different hair types I'm not drying my hair out to impress someone who washes their hair everyday just because they smell or look a oily mess if they dont.
This is fascinating. As an adolescent, I was taught to wash my hair every day. When I turned 24, I stopped washing my hair every day. I use conditioner every day, but wash it once or twice a week. If I wash it every day, it breaks. The roots tend to look oily on wash day.
I have a type 2b/2c hair. It's been at least 5 years since i'm washing my hair only once every 2 weeks or so... my hair changed a lot. When i look pics from 5, 6 years ago, even the texture looks different. I feel it much healthier and shinier now. If you dont have oily scalp, i highly recommend!
My elementary was a primarily white school. After hearing I washed my hair once a week everyone called me all sort of ish and it only got worse when they heard I used coconut oil too. Once I got to high school coconut oil became the trend though and all those same people were complaining about their hair thinning soo.. I'm chillin ..

Are 4c?
I can go 7 days before i HAVE to wash my hair. After that point, my scalp starts gettin itchy and my hair starts shedding.
Ive had to get up in the middle of the nite in the past to wash my hair when ive attempted to go beyond 7 days... weird huh?
Ive heard people say they can go MONTHS without washing theirs and i have a hard time grasping that. Like hooowwww???!!
But they say they have no problems. I guess everyones hair and scalps ARE different🤷🏽♀️
If I go beyond 2 weeks my scalp litteraly BURNS lol
Preach the truth👏👏😭
Mine knots up after a week
Akosua Fire yes you are correct everyone hair is different. When I have a sew in or a braids I don’t wash my hair for a whole month but it doesn’t bother me at all. When I wear my hair out, I do wash it more often because I am manipulating it more and adding more products, so that makes my scalp itch a lot, so I have to wash it once a week. It really depends on the person.
Akosua Fire I’m the same!! I have literally woken up just to wash my hair 😂
Woman you said it
See my hair is the opposite I only use shampoo once every 2 weeks to a month and it's on it's best behavior when I go a month.
Whenever i wash my hair i get eczema and dandruff
Wont it smell especially in hot weather? If its cool weather perhaps not
2:57 “Well not just your hair being straight but mainstream is just white” yes baby LET HER KNOW WE CAN SAY IT NOW!!!
Sanaz Mihara I tend to agree but also disagree because I’m white, have wavy hair and my mother wants it to be straight
Dead straight hair isn't that common in white people. Most people straighten it too. Dead straight is more common across east asia.

Since I've been natural I wash my hair every chance I get. Whether it's ever 2-4 days or once a week. I enjoy it and I look forward to it.

That Lizzie McGuire scene also resonated with me throughout my life when washing my hair!
Here for natural haircare in hotels. 🔥
Stoptheabuse now yes
It doesn't make sense economically and practically. Most of us have specific hair routines and we don't all use the same types of products. A hotel would have to buy shampoo, leave in, pre poo, etc to fit several different hair routines. And what percentage of their clientele is black anyway for them to have that in every room?
@@kekelauren6251 I would be fine with an all natural sulfate free shampoo for all hair types and a conditioner that works for everyone or a hair mask

Haha I used watch that show and remember that episode
The girl with the crop top and yellow pants reminds me of Moana❤️😢💕
Actually how much you wash your hair is dependent on your hair type texture.
Thats literally what the video is about
@@adannayaelicia9342 exactly! I wish they touched up on porosity too.
I think it is directly related to hair features and curliness.
Co washing is taboo. Doesn’t clean your scalp or add moisture.
Edit: All conditioners do not provide moisture.
It’s like taking a bath in lotion 🤦🏾♀️
That part! I can't do too many cowashes. Maybe once a week and I've learned it has to be a true wash, not just conditioner. My hair and scalp hates it.
i only cowash to detangle. i can go without the conditioner but i need to comb my hair out everyday or it’s gonna be a mess no matter what i do
You do not cowash to clean your hair... you cowash to detangle then clean...
Lord Escanor That’s called conditioning then 😂.

i wash every 4-6 months...and my hair has appreciated it ! my hair dries out much faster than a lot of people out there, i have to put loads of oils every day and double when i have braids, i can't do box braids unless i load up on grease or it will dry up and break...i do micro braids because i can get to it and moisturise it.......i don't wash it unless it's real itchy....and my hair has thrived .....took me ten years to learn my hair, do's and dont's. my hair does not smell because i do not use any store bought moisturisers, i make my own.
Soooooo u wash your hair twice a yr?
Finally someone said it 😭 Yes I wash less than 3 times a year. It works for me! My hair is mid-back, full and healthy
Fine hair here, once every 2-3 days, but if I didn't wash on the 2nd day, I'll have to use dry shampoo on the 3rd to keep it from collapsing
Shichen Wang Same. Also, my hair gets oilier faster in humid weather so sometimes in the summer I need to wash my hair every other day or it becomes a flat greaseball 😕
I can totally relate with the tenderheaded girl
Honestly I could go months, I went a year once but now I wash it every two months, when i take out my box braids. I have 4c hair and it takes me like 3-4 hours to detangle my hair so i think it's justified
Angel Kid you should wash it more frequently, treat your hair like a plant, it needs water , vitamin d (from sunlight), and air to the scalp to grow faster
That's my life. Every two months unless I have a style that I use a lot of product. I wear braids too almost exclusively.
Two months without cleansing your scalp??
A year?🤢🤮
About the Lizzie McGuire element here.... people may wanna rethink shampooing just once. The first round of shampoo just washes away the superficial dirt that your hair would have gathered from the elements. But it’s the second round that does the actual cleansing. It’s absolutely important for cleansing your hair follicles which is so vital for healthy hair growth.
i have naturally very straight hair, i wash my hair once a week or less. i had to train my hair to not get greasy
meaning that shampooing your hair strips the oil from your scalp sending panic signals to your scalp telling it to produce more oil
the longer you go without washing your hair the less oil your scalp your hair will produce because it starts to realize it has enough
it took me a very long summer of very greasy hair to finally get my hair to the point where i only have to wash it once a week
O my god how do you do that
I honestly can't, it feels gross and if I tie my hair to hide the oil for too long I get headaches
@@corriejo3655 but then you have to put your hair up for the rest of the days till you're gonna wash it.
Blacks can’t wash their hair every day like that
I have straight to wavy hair. I wash it once or twice a week. When I wash it people say it looks dry, when I don't they say it looks greasy. So damned if you do damned if you don't. Now I wash it once or twice a week, IDGAF.
Try sulfate free shampoo. You really shouldn't have to use shampoo with sulfates most days.
Don't wash your hair more than once a week if it doesn't need it
How did it go ? Is it better for you because I’m trying to transition to once a week.
In Asia we usually wash it everyday. Except in colder areas. The weather factors too as we sweat more in hot weather. Its poor hygiene to not wash often enough.
I was on a camping trip a back in highschool. A girl with the same hair type as me asked me if i was gonna wash my hair. i told her all i needed was coconut oil and i was fine, but she said “ew.”
Like why? Her hair was so dry and frizzy, i wanted to help her so bad, she had the same hair as i did.
It's the fear of being called gross for not washing your hair every other day or everyday. I won't tell others that I wash it twice a week cause ppl would find me gross
I'm a tender headed person with a very sensitive scalp, always have been, and I absolutely hate getting my hair done. It's almost guaranteed that I'll cry every time, and have migraines for a few days afterwards. I tend to only wash my hair maybe once a month or so (with shampoo), and wash it with water at least once a week.
P.S
Omg, these women are so gorgeous.

The host's Nteku Nteku (Bentu knots) look really good on her.
I wash my hair twice a week. My hair is fine, so it gets limp when the products build up.
I agree with everything they said. But even mainstream shampoo doesn’t fit most white people because there are who’re people with curly hair too.

Yeah many people who are white have curly hair. I know a lot of Greek people who have curly hair too.

Oh and all the women have beautiful tresses! 😊

I wash my hair once a month like ain’t no one got time to be in there hair everyday
I wash my hair once a week.. But i also don't comb or brush my hair in that time. I always put it in a style so that I don't have to comb or brush it. And doing it this way helps my hair grow faster and stronger.
I love that we can ask questions and explain ideas without somebody being perceived as “dumb”

Moisture Conditioner works for me as a co wash.

my scalp starts itching if i dont wash it, i dunno how some people go weeks without it
Same. We have a hygiene problem in this country.
I never understood the stigma around “needing” to wash your hair often.
i wash my hair every 3 weeks - once a month
Lifestyle also affects how often you wash your hair. I work in a dental clinic, and even though we wear haircaps on work, the caps arent plastic, liquid, such as saliva can still go to the hair. Basically, youll have dirty hair at the end of the day. I wash my hair every other day because i didnt want to dry it out so much. But I cant imagine going for a whole week of not washing my hair, it will smell gross and would actually start giving me acne because its dirty.
I wash my hair once a month. Ain’t nobody got time to wash thick mane every two weeks 😒

They should have highlighted the fact the Europeans have more oil ducts, which is why they need to wash their hair more often.
I wash and deep condition every other week cut my ends once a yr and my hair grows fine also use coconut oil for strength and it helps with breakage and softens my hair

I wash mine once a month and just keep it moisturized through out and off my shoulders
They all have some interesting, yet beautiful names!

This is fascinating. As an adolescent, I was taught to wash my hair every day. When I turned 24, I stopped washing my hair every day. I use conditioner every day, but wash it once or twice a week. If I wash it every day, it breaks. The roots tend to look oily on wash day.
