It’s a myth that washing hair everyday is bad. It’s different for everyone, we all have different hair types. For some ppl, it’s bad to wash everyday. For others, it’s perfectly healthy to do so. For me, I’ve washed my hair everyday since I was a toddler and it is silky, shiny, and soft with no frizzyness or split ends.
Preach. I wash my hair every other day bc I have genetic issues w oiliness (as does every other woman in my extended family), and if I ever mention it, everyone w naturally normal or dry hair will immediately hone in on me to tell me my hair is oily bc of how frequently I wash it, and that I should only wash it like once or twice a week. If you’ve never had naturally oily hair you have no clue how to deal w it. I’ve tried going longer stretches between washes and I developed seborrhea, my derm told me I had to go back to washing it every other day.
Ahh i used to wash my hair everyday and my hair was so silky and smooth and my friend then told me it was a bad thing so i stopped and now i wash my hair like every 2 or 3 days and its not as silky and smooth and i have more split ends :/ i think its time to go back to washing it everyday
I have oily skin type and my hair is naturally straight. I used to wash my hair every day but not even half way through the day my hair would get super greasy and oily. So one day I decided to not wash my hair for a month so I could teach my scalp to not produce so much oil. And now I only wash my hair once a week and I love how healthy, shiny, and non-greasy my hair looks. Point of the story? It all depends on your skin type and your hair texture/type.
@m4 a1 well it's definitely not for everyone, that's for sure. This method works for me and the type of hair and skin that I have. What works for me may not work for other people, that doesn't make my method better than yours and vice versa. Do what works for you. To each its own.
i have the same problem now that you had, so then when you did not wash your hair how often did you brush your hair? and did you manage with only dry shampoo everyday or how did you do it?
@@shayliu2671 yeah pretty much, I would brush it a lot, spray dry shampoo on the roots and massage my scalp, and then either put it in a bun or braid it, I know it sounds gross but I promise you'll produce waaaay less oil. Like I had to do something drastic because I used to wash my hair every day and by 6 pm my fresh hair would be super greasy. I just got fed up with it.
And I don't know about you but everyone I've been to insists on aggressively combing my hair after washing and I'm then horrified to see the bunch of hair they've ripped off on the comb.
What I do sometimes is I bought my own hair cutting scissors and that type of stuff and I cut it myself, only when it’s a try I’m or cutting hair but when it’s like layers or that stuff I think it’s better to go to a hairdresser (unless you are skilled) c:
1.) apply shampoo from the nape of ur neck and work towards your forehead 2.) shampoo TWICE 3.) apply conditioner and detangle hair whilst in shower 4.) MOISTURIZE SCALP BEFORE WASHING edit: reminder for myself :)
People tend to forget that the actual n main reason of shampooing is not silky ness shinyness etc, the main reason is to clean our heads, similarily how washing face isnt about fairness pimples pores, its about cleaning the face, how many times you do it n what other things you do to your hair depends on your hair type
So true. I am one of those people that can not wash my hair everyday because I have dry scalp and curly hair. I have a medicated shampoo that my dermatologist prescribed me. To keep as clean as possible I try to do what women used to do back in the day: I keep it in an updo and wear hats and scarves. If I wear my hair down I have to wash it a lot and my scalp turns into a burning, dry, red mess. Keeping my hair protects it from the discusting polution and tobacco and dust in the air. I also sleep with a vintage inspired bonet. So my advice to people with dry scalp and hair that can not wash their hair every day is try to keep it protected and away from the face. If your scalp does not produce enough oil to make the scalp dirty, protect the rest of tour hair from actual dirt and polution.
I don't know why but I got all emotional watching this video...it just dawned on me that I am watching a pre-COVID video and people are just hanging out without masks and I just miss this, I miss life, spontaneous, social life...
This was VERY helpful. So many TH-camrs telling everyone “don’t wash your hair everyday.” I definitely think I’m in the category that actually SHOULD wash their hair every day.
Bruh y'all got oily heads cuz u shampoo too much, when you shampoo you just make your head say "yo we need a lot more oil, it's DRY up in here" and if you add any products then that prolly adds to it. I can't speak for you but it's just an idea
@@samtee or maybe it’s because some people actually have naturally oily skin and have to wash everyday. It’s all well and good telling people the oil is due to over washing till it turns out that’s wrong
Yeah the whole wash from back to front and then they cut washing her hair, no helpful at all. Then they say to use oils but don't say what kinds. Really frustrating.
It grinds my gears how many people on the Internet are patronising about people washing their hair “too much” which makes it oily and claiming everyone can train their hair to last longer between washes. I’ve been trying to train my hair to last three days for the past ten years and it just isn’t happening (can barely last two days). Genetics has way more to do with oil production than wash frequency. Also I don’t think a lot of this crowd realise that their hair actually smells pretty funky from their precious ‘natural oils’. This video has finally validated me that actually maybe my hair does need a daily wash after all.
The funky comment was a little to far but besties that I totally agree. It has to do with genetics and your hair type. Most African Americans wash their hair once a week, while some eh white people tend to wash theirs daily. It’s all about you, in fact I think the people who created the rice water thing (I forgot what nationality they are) only wash their hair once a month and they don’t even use soap or shampoo yet their hair is beautiful
@@RayesReflections I’m 100% talking about other white women though. Black and other women of colour (and men ofc) absolutely do not need to wash their hair that often. I will NEVER comment on their wash frequency because I am lily white and have no idea the effort that goes into maintaining the texture that they are born with. They know what works best for their hair. All power to them for washing their hair less frequently and preserving the health of their waves/curls/kinks/whatever. Again, my comment was not racially charged. I am talking about other WHITE WOMEN. White women with fine, naturally straight hair deciding they need to wash their hair at the same interval as black women…….???? Because they’ve decided they have ”trained it”? They are deluding themselves a lot of the time because it really smells and looks bad dude. (They produce way more oil than someone with curly hair would so it catches up to them way quicker than it would to a POC with textured hair). Yet they patronise me for washing mine “too often” even though I’ve been naively trying to “train” my hair for years and it simply hasn’t worked. These same white women will literally have hair that smells dirty to me, despite social distancing, even if it looks OK from all the dry shampoo they use. I notice that all of the black or mixed women I’ve discussed this with IRL don’t actually give me the same advice because they know that they have very different genes to deal with and what will work for them will not work for me lol
you can still condition your hair between wash cycles to keep the smell! i couldn't get used to not washing my hair every day bc of the grease and smell but conditioning took care of both of those
@@madinp1177 It's all in the genetics. And there's even diversity within racial and ethnic groups. I have to wash my hair every day. If I leave it a day then it gets too oily and greasy. My mom is the same way. I have very thin, fine hair that's delicate. I can't even use a brush to comb, I can only use a pick/thin comb because if I don't, my hair gets ripped out. As such my scalp gets very greasy easily and I develop bad dandruff quickly if I skip a day. We're white. But I've known other white people that can go a week or 4 days without washing their hair and they can be fine. Genetics can be different for everyone.
Honestly as a hairdresser it depends on each person...oily, dry, sweat, work environment, product build up... you know when your hair needs a good washing
@@blancheH7 Hello. Something I have been in search for quite sometime is a connection with somebody that goes beyond vanity. It's very hard to do in this day and age. People can be, somewhat very superficial. On my quest to achieve this I have learnt a lot about human nature. It seems to me that those who are not given traits such as beauty or being wealthy are some of the nicest, kindest and generous people. While the "gorgeous" and well off seem to be the most arrogant and greedy people out there. Of course that's not to say there aren't beautiful kind people out there. I've been in the process of change for a while now and I have made some decent changes but don't you just hate it when people can't let go of your past mistakes. I saw your profile and it intrigued me. I wanted to learn more about who you are and what type of path you would like on in life. Can we talk?
It depends on your hair type. My hair isn’t oily so when I wash it everyday it would be too dry and feel weird. It’s better when I wash it about 2-3 times a week
So you are probably like me and learned. 1. Massage scalp with oil a half an hour before. 2. shampoo twice starting at the back. 3. No conditioner with silcone. 4 less heating instruments
If you like how your hair looks and it doesn't smell, you're already washing it the right amount. Hair is dead, how we treat it is just a case of aesthetics and personal preference. We don't need to tell people they're doing it 'wrong'
you are so right, hair is dead but no professionals seem to acknowledge this, they put products and oils etc. to make hair more healthy, but it is dead ... that's just window dressing cosmetics to LOOK better but the healthiness depends on diet and body chemistry. From my understanding, when it exits your scalp it is dead and fingernails similar. Yes?
@@Make_AWish well when I say dead I am not talking about the part that is unseen in the follicles but am talking about that which we see ... so tired of all the product cosmetic claims that this and that make your hair healthy ... healthy "looking" maybe, after the fact, Before it comes out you can affect it with vitamins and minerals and nutrition and hopefully eventually it will show up stronger and lovelier, but once its out the rest is cosmetics, not up for healing of any kind.
@@Make_AWish yes making all these claims and the results never measure up. The biggest farce though are the wrinkle creams and especially the latest mascara claims. Wishful thinking by us I guess. Thanx for your reply.
My hair doesn't smell but I'm a blonde and at some point I just notice I'm turning into a brunette, that a sign to wash my hair for sure lol. After washing it gets back to light shades.
I myself can’t wash my hair everyday. Not only would it be bad for it but it would be way too tiring because it’s pretty long. I just wash my hair once every week
Because of water conservation once a week. I don't care what my scalp looks like all magnified. If it doesn't itch or smell bad, once a week is just fine. By the way it doesn't itch or smell bad...
I don't know if I'm tripping into thinking my hair doesn't smell bad lol I have depression so I would go 2/3 weeks without washing my hair. I heard some people with depression don't wash theirs for months but when I touch my hair and I feel it oily/grease, it what motivates me to wash it. I hate that feeling. I try to ignore it but it's triggering.
@@roserain7034 You should at minimum wash once a week. If I had depression, I would just put it on my calendar. My one hair stylist asked if I had seasonal allergies (which I did) she said I should wash my hair more often then. I usually wash my hair every other day and the longest I go is 3 days. Just smells we are around can absorb into the hair.
It really depends on whether you have oily or dry scalp type and where you're living. I tried to wash my hair once a week for a long period of time. Just to see if it can change the amount of oil my head produces. And it only causes my hair more greasy, more hair loss and really itchy! Then I returned back to wash my hair every two days. My hair always starting to look oily on the third day if I didn't wash my hair the night before. I have combination skin type and live in subtropical area. And the water matters too. I use soft water in Taipei, which is where I'm living. My hair is always shiny and healthy. But once I went to Australia or Spain, where uses hard water. It always makes my hair became really dry and hair loss.
This is me af!! I've tried it for months on end going as long as I can between washes and it gets so clogged up with grease, stinks and I lose sooo much more hair than when I wash regularly!
@@mattkavelli hard water has a lot of minerals, those minerals will basically grab the oil and stay there which is why most ppl in hard water areas have more build up and need to wash it twice to make sure the shampoo actually removes the oils. I can’t use dry shampoo bc even after washing it 2 times, the dry shampoo just again binds to everything and it creates a greasy film over my hair. Hard water is great to drink but horrible for everything else.
I think it depends on the person. If I wash my hair everyday, I will become bald. Best for me is every 2 or 3 days, longer than that it keeps falling a lot because it gets too greasy.
Same. I was actually so impressed with the people in this video that said they wash their hair once a week. I mean, their hair looked AMAZING for not being washed in a week. How?? Maybe dry shampoo? My hair looks like shit on the 3rd day.
@@patportran4683 It's not a lie. I don't know about others but mine starts to fall even more if it gets oily. It starts falling a lot if I massage my scalp too. Everyone is different.
I used to wash my hair every other day and I noticed it was greasy more often. Recently I started washing only on Saturdays and Tuesdays, rinsing when it gets greasy but ive noticed it doesnt really get greasy until right before I shower. Its also made my waves more prominent. If you can, I definitely recommend experimenting with your hair in order to find out what works best for you.
I wash my hair every day in the summer, and shower twice a day as I'm a Texan, and we regularly have 90°+ weather each day during the summer. During the winter, I wash my hair every other day. Nice video!
It depends on hair type. My hair gets oily after 2 days. Also its really hot in summer so we really can't avoid a quick shower after coming back from outside. But I use shampoo just once or twice a week.
Actually, it depends on where you live. The moisture in the air is one of the main factors to consider. Like, my sister lives in the US, and she would often send us Shampoo made in the US. My hair tends to get very frizzy after using them. But the ones available here in my country gives my naturally straight hair more volume. When I went to colder countries, my hair becomes frizzy and my scalp becomes dry too, regardless if I wash it everyday. I live in a tropical country, so washing everyday is normal for us, since it's hot 😁
@@TheBooty28 i don't have ocd,but i have to wash everyday.otherwise i don't feel well and fresh. And i think maximum people do the same🙄 don't overestimate anything
i was so happy to hear her say "it really is very different for everybody..." when answering the question. but like protective styles, i'm not washing my braids nor will i take them out sooner than a week because all that manipulation increases the chances of breakage
In my case, i need to wash my hair EVERYDAY because if not, dandruffs will spread quickly and it is hard to remove. So everyday, i need to wash thoroughly to make sure that my hair feels fresh
You would probably get a better result by using a medical dandruff treating shampoo. Dandruff can happen for many reasons, but most of the time it's a naturally occurring fungus gone into overdrive. A medical shampoo helps taming the fungus
There’s a so simple home remedy! I did this twice in my life. I haven’t had any dandruff for 15 years. White vinegar diluted with warm half water to rinse after shampoo and conditioner. The smell evaporates reasonably well. Every time you wash , for a month. Wha la ! No more dandruff. So because everyone is different just modify this to your own needs. I hope it works as well for you as it did for me. Once or twice a year for maintenance. I think it can be fungal. Maybe from sugar or antibiotics? Who knows.
I stopped washing, coloring, and styling my hair during Covid lockdowns and my hair grew long again for the first time in 20+ years! Now that I’m back to regularly doing those things, it’s barely grown.
Me to i stopped washing my hair to often and it as grown so long. Lot of caos on so it was clean. Nonsense to wash everyday. Also depends on the job one is doing.
It’s more about your scalp than your hair when it comes to hair washing. I have coarse straight Asian hair paired with a dry scalp and excess oils. I’ve been for a scalp treatment twice and they recommend I wash every two days as my scalp condition gets better. Leaving my scalp dirty only made the condition of my hair worse
I used to swear that if you washed your hair every day the scalp tries to make up for it by producing more oil. Unfortunately I developed dandruff from having an oily scalp since I wasn’t washing my hair enough. I went from washing it like every four days to every other day now. Keep in mind your hormones can be a factor.
@@patportran4683 I agree with you, but depending on hair texture, dry brushing can be a nightmare... I have curly hair, tried, and looked like I had stuck my finger into several power outlets
I have a terrible history with my hair, which I'm about to wash tonight. This video was very timely! (My hair is the North-central European type. Thick, dark, and mildly curly. It resists all styling, so no heat damage here.)
I started letting my hair grow during covid. Im Puerto rican adopted by an italian family. So ive just always kept my hair short. During covid i was like screw it. Grew a beard, an afro and i went to a legit black barber and he was like dude you can not be washing this beautiful of hair daily. So i started once a week and my hair feels amazing!!! All the time.
I'm post menopausal and live in the desert. I can go 2 weeks between washing. I also realized that by brushing to oils through well every day and shampooing occasionally my hair is thicker and longer than it has ever been.
When I was younger as in under 35, I needed to wash my hair everyday. As my hormones changed with babies my hair got curlier!!! I had to take a different approach and started washing every other day. I always have to condition as my hair get dry. Now I am going through menopause (thankfully with no hot spells) and I find I can go three days max. What oils do you brush through your hair? I want to try but not sure which to get, what brand?
My hair already gets greasy and my scalp itchy after day 1 of not shampooing. Really depends on skin type, Chelsea’s scalp really amazed me how clean and healthy it looked.
I have thick, dense, straight hair and I double cleanse. I wash once a week twice at the absolute most. I used to wash my hair every day and my hair would be super oily and my ends would be so brittle and fried even with just air drying daily.
Normally I cleanse my hair twice a week, since I have fragile curly hair. After viewing this, I shall be focusing more on healthy scalp care. This is very informative. Thank you for making this video!
I wash my hair once every 2 or 3 weeks. Depends how I feel like. Sometimes once a month. And my hair is pretty healthy. I put olive oil before I wash my hair twice, then I put in hair mask and then condition it. After my hair wash session I put hair serum.
I have very dry hair so washing it once a week is more than enough. I once actually tried to see how long I can go without washing it and it stayed good for almost three weeks :) Something g can work for you which doesn’t for others, so you should choose that depending on your hair and scalp
3 weeks!!!! That's too long girl. I think the longest you should go is a week. Do you moisturize your scalp and hair with oils? dry hair needs more oils.
This is me, too. During the Summer and when I'm out and about, it's harder to get away with only washing a few times a week. I just feel disgusting. During the Winter and on days I'm just home/working from home, it's a lot easier to get away with washing my hair every other day.
I have very oily skin even on my scalp. I'm actually scared to to put more oil on my scalp just to have my hair look more healthy. So I'm stuck with the choice, do I want acne with slick and healthy hair or do I want clear skin with dry, frizzy hair.😬 Because I know some of the oils on my scalp will make its way onto my face.
Around 2:11 she says that the first shampoo gets rid of the dirt and oils and pollutants and the second shampoo “actually cleanses yourself”. What does that even mean?
She said "your scalp", I think it's her accent. But I think she means kind of like, first you remove your make up and then you wash your face. Get rid of the gunk to get to your skin.
She has the same accent as me its always funny when people can't understand us even when we talk slower or try and over pronounce our words to make it easier for people to understand What she was was the first shampoo gets out products and pollutants The 2nd shampoo actually cleanses your scalp
Well, I think she should say it is not a rule of thumb, and I hope people don't take it like that. It depends on your level of activity, enviroment and the products you apply on your hair. If I exercise or style with cream, I wash it the day after tomorrow, two times with a shampoo containing strong cleaning agents (you could call it a detox). But if I was indoors, chilling and didn't style my hair I can stay 3 days without washing it and use a more gentle shampoo when I wash my hair.
I go for every other day even when I work out ...🙈 because i thought i couldn't wash more often and I hate it! Now I going to wash every time i workout!
In our country where summer lasts all year long, I wash my hair everyday, sometimes even twice a day, because it's really hot. Yet I can say that my hair is pretty healthy, naturally smooth, and shiny, even without any treatment (just regular shampoo and conditioners.) Washing it everyday is more than enough and more convenient when you're in a hot weather, also, no need to blow dry🙂
When you are young and your scalp has more oil, you wash it more often, at least twice a week. When you get older, once a week for old lady's head because it is dryer. It obviously depends on your head.
I wash my hair daily, I have thin hair and it gets pretty greasy by the end of the day. I condition the ends add some leave in conditioner on the end only and my hair is good.
It depends on your scalp, hair, lifestyle, products, climate etc. For me the optimum seems to be about 2-3 days. It depends on what I've been doing. If I wash it every day, my scalp gets itchy and I have a bad hair day.
After 25 years, I decided to cut down to washing my hair once a week. My hair is softer, smoother, and my hair damage reduced significantly. All those years of avoiding styling, blow drying, and brushing hair while wet, but it was the hair washing that was damaging it the most 😭
I wash it every 2-3 days. I only shower when I need to wash my hair or am actually sweaty/dirty. Because of my age (teen), it gets greasy in a couple of days.
Did need a fancy microcamera to know this. Growing up in JA my mom would wash our hair with head facing forward in the sink, she would start from our necks and scrub our scalp with her fingers. After washing and conditioning she would add oils with herb concoctions to our scalps before braiding/platting/cane rowing it up for school. I still do this process today.
I clean my straight hair with water everyday. Like just massage the scalp, get rid of greasiness etc. But really wash my hair with hair products every 3-4 days depends how active I've been. It does make my hair healthier, but does anyone here have better tips I can use.
I used to get “painful pimples” on my scalp until I start washing it everyday & it magically disappear. Oh yea I wash at night & used oil to massage my scalp in the morning….I find it help lessen the hair fall out during shower.
I didn't realize that we should be caring for our scalp the way we care for our face. I wash my hair 2 maybe 3 times a week with a lot of dry shampoo in between because I have super oily hair.
Gina Galderio it depends on your hair type and hair porosity. For instance since I’m biracial I can only wash my once a week. Any more than that then my hair would break. My hair retains and releases moisture at different rates. I also stay away from shampoo and conditions with no sulfates or parabens and I don’t use hairsprays or other style products that can leave residue or buildup. Once you learn more about you hair you can know how to care for it properly.
Probably depends on the person. I can't use any coconut oil (and any other oil that's more solid at room temperature) on my skin or hair, because my body really hates it, while just about any very fluid oil works great for me. But I know for a fact that there's thousands of people who are doing way better with coconut oil than maroccan oil or others. So try whatever sounds good to you, I guess?
Many people doesn’t know what is really wavy hair. Wavy hair is when you brush it become straight then get wavy when you start moving it can be easily frizzy and thick down there. It can also be easily be dry and needs care to look great
Or the cornstarch baby powder. I stopped dry shampoo because it built up on my scalp and I hated throwing away the cans. Dry shampoo allowed me to extend more time between washes though.
I am 70 years old and i have washed my hair every day. It is always shinny, healthy and I get comments from hairdresser. I even use gasp horror super market products
no but because i live in a tropical area where its so hot and its summer everyday, its normal here in the philippines to wash your hair/scalp everyday, sometimes i even take a full bath in a day
My hairdresser told me the “wash your scalp” years ago. The rest will get clean with the residual, and not strip your hair. I only wash once a week. However, I don’t use product for styling at all, so that may be a big difference. But this just seems like a big commercial, so……
i have fine, medium density, 3A/3B hair & i wash my hair once a week. the only problem i have is that i get buildup really easily but whenever i use a clarifying, sulfate shampoo it leaves my scalp irritated and itchy but doesn’t remove the buildup on my hair. (T ^ T) i think i just need to get a better shampoo 🥲 i was using the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus shampoo & then their Raw Shea Butter shampoo & lemme tell you… my hair did NOT like those. so now im trying to find new ones
“Should I get bangs?” *gets bangs* pls that’s so accurate- if someone is asking that they’re gonna do it anyway they already booked an appointment just hoping u will say yes too :,,,)
I make my own flaxseed gel, I also use flaxseed oil, castor oil, black seed oil, argan oil, sesame seed oil, alma oil... I have a lot and I switch up my recepies :) I also add rosemary or tea tree essential oils into it as it stimulates the scalp. I also use a heat cap when I have oil in my hair so it can penetrate deeper.
Thank you for this video! It was so cool seeing the magnified hairs and scalp. I will absolutely change to shampooing twice for each time I wash my hair and check to see if my conditioner has silicone in it.
I thought you said ethnicity but that would fit too and I didn’t realize until I misread you lol! It made the video better that they had 3 different ethnic groups to do the comparison because we all have unique hair and that actually plays a big part in it!
i have a scalp condition called Seborrheic dermatitis- and i have large flakes of dandruff- i had this condition snce i was 7 but i never got it checked until last yr. because i thought it was just dandruff and people say it comes when stress it goes away too, but i noticed how bad it is especially on cold weather- then i was told for dandruff it means dry scalp, so i should stop washing hair everyday- instead i shud do it 2 to 3x a week. but this resulted so bad to me. my Seborrheic got worst- resulted to a lot of hair fall and hair thinning, scalp full of large flakes and its red due to me picking it out. i went to a doctor- told me i should be washing hair everyday because Seborrheic clogs the scalp and not washing it makes it worst- and yeah. she gave my medical shampoo treatments. now my scalp is better ♡ i see a lot of baby hair too ♡ and theyre all standing tbh haha! my hair got better ♡ though still thin. but im exploring on how to thicken the hair ♡
It takes about 6-7 days for my hair to become greasy, I wash it every 5-7 days. My college bsf washes her hair everyday and it takes her hair about 18 hours to become greasy. I have naturally straight, medium-thick hair and she has thin hair that has slight texture (her mom has curly hair).
I am 71 with very dry scalp. I use coconut oil for scalp massages. Sometimes I use an apple cider or baking soda rinse instead of a shampoo to just cleanes and refresh.
Wow this is interesting! I've always washed from the nape because I bend forward so my hair doesn't touch my body. But I'll have to try the double cleanse...my head does tend to smell at day two, plus I live in the tropics so it's mostly humid.
The oil makes sense!! I've seen a video (Ted-Ed dandruff) about how dandruff is created by these microbacteria that feeds on our natural oils (they poop out dandruff and it builds up). Since the oil is being eaten the scalp creates more oil and the bacteria keeps eating it. Adding oil that the bacteria can't eat not only stops them from creating that buildup but also allows the scalp to slow down oil production - which lessens the bacteria in the first place.
For me I find it unhygienic to sleep with dirty hair. You go outside where there’s pollution, dirt and smells. Especially since people smoke outside. Plus, I workout almost everyday and just the sweat alone is disgusting. Then you get into your clean bed and your face touches the same pillow your dirty hair is. I choose hygiene over my hair health. Plus the quality of your hair depends on what you eat and really starts from the inside.
@Tanisha Patel I guess it depends on the person. I notice my hair feels healthier when I'm eating well (getting enough protein) and exercising consistently. More products don't always work for me unfortunately.
Well, maybe you should cover your hair when you sleep for that reason. It keep your hair free of tangles and the scalp oils and dirt away from your face. I sleep with a silk scarf covering my hair and wake up with shinier and stylish hair. It may help you to feel better about it if your can't wash your hair daily because of fine texture. But I understand if it feel gross to you. Maybe you should try some biotin suplements.
Sheesh, just put a towel on your pillow! And sweating isn't "disgusting", it's natural, you would overheat without this function. How do you manage to have sex with another person - shower before and after?
Same goes to dog trend imagine people take their dog out where all bacteria roam and take their dog inside back to their homes, couch and bed some even share plate and let them get licked and people find it normal because it’s normalized. My hygiene got better with being pet free when i smelled some old clothes and moved to a new place i realized i smelled like the dog but didn’t realize because human body become immune to smell we are used to and all this time i smelled like that and people won’t tell you anything of course to not offend you, also saving the environment like this because unfortunately pets are causing a threat to the environment and extinction to tons of natural species who are contribute in the echo system, i wish more people are educated about this and media keep praising something mostly in america we have a huge dog worship because it brings money the billion pet industry hide facts and full of pseudoscience because some people cares about money so much
It would have been interesting to see the the results of a person who never washes their hair & just gives it a damn good brush morning & night & let the natural oils do their thing. BUT u can (in my opinion) only never wash u'r hair if u'r hair is as dry as toast! Greasy hair...firget it!!
I put 1.5 pumps of shampoo into a bowl of water and mix it so that it produces more lather. I using baby or light shampoo, use 2 pumps. Works as good as shampooing twice.
How many times should I wash my hair in a week when I have thick and half straight half wavy hair and also should I blow dry my hair or let it naturally dry?
like the person above said, it depends but here’s what i do. (sorry for the long response lol) 1. i think my hair may be similar to yours… my hair is long (not sure what everyone else’s definition of long is but mine’s past halfway down my back.) and it’s also pretty thick and somewhat wavy. (it really depends bc some days my hair is like fully straight naturally and other days, it’s pretty wavy.) 2. how often i wash my hair… i wash it every other day most of the time bc after a day or two my hair looks greasy at the top. i can’t go longer without washing bc i shower daily and if i don’t wash my hair while in the shower, it ends up getting greasy (maybe from the steam or something?) 3. how i dry my hair… i let my hair air dry (most of the times i shower at night so i just let it dry while i sleep, but even in the mornings i let it air dry unless im going somewhere right after. it just takes so long for my hair to dry with or without a blow dryer.) 4. dry shampoo (even though you didn’t ask, it’s something that helps my hair…) if you wouldn’t want to wash as often as you should, dry shampoo does work for me! it may work for you as well. the one that i use is “batiste clean and classic original.” it feels like my normal hair after i use it, and it’s great if i have no time to wash it! hopefully this is helpful, but idk :)
“Washing your hair is not damaging it’s the heat styling” says someone with straight hair. I never ever use heat but if I were to wash my hair more than once a week I would need to use a freaking full bottle of conditioner and leave it in like every other day to feel like I can leave the house. Especially if it contains sulfates.
What if you need to wash every day because you have oily roots but at the same time the length of your hair is dry and you feel like everyday washing is a factor?
Could you do another video with proper instructions, please? Also the moisturizer stuff and oil and how to prevent ageing. I'm really more confused now than before!

OMG SO LUCKY! :0
Every other day to everyday for me!!! My head gets sore from not washing my hair for more than 3-4 days.
Me too I wash my hair daily
How did you last not washing for a month? Did it not get itchy
@@alonecozydot195 oh yeah it was disgusting, it got super greasy but overtime, I was able to manage with dry shampoo.

I notice that all of the black or mixed women I’ve discussed this with IRL don’t actually give me the same advice because they know that they have very different genes to deal with and what will work for them will not work for me lol
you can still condition your hair between wash cycles to keep the smell! i couldn't get used to not washing my hair every day bc of the grease and smell but conditioning took care of both of those
@@megan-wl1ym definitely doesn’t make much difference for me
@@madinp1177 It's all in the genetics.

So you are probably like me and learned. 1. Massage scalp with oil a half an hour before. 2. shampoo twice starting at the back. 3. No conditioner with silcone. 4 less heating instruments

you are so right, hair is dead but no professionals seem to acknowledge this, they put products and oils etc. to make hair more healthy, but it is dead ... that's just window dressing cosmetics to LOOK better but the healthiness depends on diet and body chemistry.
It always makes my hair became really dry and hair loss.

what u mean by soft and hard water?
@@mattkavelli hard water has a lot of minerals, those minerals will basically grab the oil and stay there which is why most ppl in hard water areas have more build up and need to wash it twice to make sure the shampoo actually removes the oils. Hard water is great to drink but horrible for everything else.

Recently I started washing only on Saturdays and Tuesdays, rinsing when it gets greasy but ive noticed it doesnt really get greasy until right before I shower. Its also made my waves more prominent. How long did it take to train it?
I wash my hair every day in the summer, and shower twice a day as I'm a Texan, and we regularly have 90°+ weather each day during the summer. During the winter, I wash my hair every other day.
Nice video!
It depends on hair type. My hair gets oily after 2 days. Also its really hot in summer so we really can't avoid a quick shower after coming back from outside. But I use shampoo just once or twice a week.
As a black woman with type 4c hair, I wash my hair after every protective style which is basically every month and a half or two months.

You would probably get a better result by using a medical dandruff treating shampoo. Dandruff can happen for many reasons, but most of the time it's a naturally occurring fungus gone into overdrive. A medical shampoo helps taming the fungus
I get dandruff easily and scalp psoriasis. Get medicated shampoo that has tar in it, like T gel or nizoral. Make sure to follow the instructions.
3 weeks!!!! That's too long girl. I think the longest you should go is a week. Do you moisturize your scalp and hair with oils? dry hair needs more oils.
As we see, a hair washing schedule is personal. Everyone has different needs.
I wash my hair depending on the weather and my level of activity. I basically wash between 2-5 times a week.
This is me, too. During the Summer and when I'm out and about, it's harder to get away with only washing a few times a week. I just feel disgusting. During the Winter and on days I'm just home/working from home, it's a lot easier to get away with washing my hair every other day.

Around 2:11 she says that the first shampoo gets rid of the dirt and oils and pollutants and the second shampoo “actually cleanses yourself”. What does that even mean?

The 2nd shampoo actually cleanses your scalp
Well, I think she should say it is not a rule of thumb, and I hope people don't take it like that.
It depends on your level of activity, enviroment and the products you apply on your hair. If I exercise or style with cream, I wash it the day after tomorrow, two times with a shampoo containing strong cleaning agents (you could call it a detox).

Castor oil
I use natural soaps as shampoo, and natural oils as hair oil/mask
Different oils have different properties. But you can only use cold-pressed oils on your skin and scalp, don't use oils for frying.
All those years of avoiding styling, blow drying, and brushing hair while wet, but it was the hair washing that was damaging it the most 😭
Agreed, washing your hair less has made it healthier, softened and more natural.
I wash it every 2-3 days. I only shower when I need to wash my hair or am actually sweaty/dirty. Because of my age (teen), it gets greasy in a couple of days.
This just convinces me to buy that hair oil I've been eyeing for months!
I didn't know about the moisturizing, and starting at the nape 🤯
I clean my straight hair with water everyday. Like just massage the scalp, get rid of greasiness etc.
But really wash my hair with hair products every 3-4 days depends how active I've been. It does make my hair healthier, but does anyone here have better tips I can use.
I wash mine 2x/day. It looks good. Shiny and soft.
I used to get “painful pimples” on my scalp until I start washing it everyday & it magically disappear.
Oh yea I wash at night & used oil to massage my scalp in the morning….I find it help lessen the hair fall out during shower.
What kind of oil you use? or recommend?

Would love to know what type of oil is recommended. Eg coconut or almond etc
I have naturally oily hair but my mom (she has dry hair) says Almond Oil is the best
Jojoba oil. Don't even try anything else.
me growing in a japanese family never miss a day without washing my whole body while having a wavy hair
Is that you in dp? very pretty actually
@@paridhishekhawat9446 it's Serena Motola she is Japanese model
Many people doesn’t know what is really wavy hair. Wavy hair is when you brush it become straight then get wavy when you start moving it can be easily frizzy and thick down there. It can also be easily be dry and needs care to look great
I wash my hair daily. I can't bring myself to not wash daily cause when I wake up the next day, my hair will become flat. I hate flat hair
Same!
SAME
Try using dry shampoo... And wash hair alternately... Or twice a week. 😊

“Should I get bangs?”
*gets bangs*
pls that’s so accurate- if someone is asking that they’re gonna do it anyway they already booked an appointment just hoping u will say yes too :,,,)
I've always washed with shampoo, then conditioner and then shampoo again..and it's life-changing !
I wash my hair every other day...so about 3x a week. I learned from this video I should be doing so everyday! And to use oils. Any recommendations?
Simple olive oil
Coconut oil is very good for hair
Use aloe Vera,it will clean your scalp ... so you don't have to wash your hair everyday
If your looking for healthy growth put Aragon oil for about an hour on your scalp before washing your hair.
I loved the enthusiasm of everyone in the video, it made it so fun to watch and very relatable!
I thought you said ethnicity but that would fit too and I didn’t realize until I misread you lol! It made the video better that they had 3 different ethnic groups to do the comparison because we all have unique hair and that actually plays a big part in it!
Start your shampoo from Nape of your neck
Wash scalp & hair
Use oil before cleansing
i only wash my hair about once a week (but will be washing more after watching this!!!)
how your hair is doing now? i wash my hair 2x per week and my hair is tinner than hers. Should i wash it everyday?
i have a scalp condition called Seborrheic dermatitis- and i have large flakes of dandruff-
i had this condition snce i was 7 but i never got it checked until last yr. because i thought it was just dandruff and people say it comes when stress it goes away too, but i noticed how bad it is especially on cold weather-
then i was told for dandruff it means dry scalp, so i should stop washing hair everyday- instead i shud do it 2 to 3x a week.
but this resulted so bad to me. my Seborrheic got worst- resulted to a lot of hair fall and hair thinning, scalp full of large flakes and its red due to me picking it out.
i went to a doctor- told me i should be washing hair everyday because Seborrheic clogs the scalp and not washing it makes it worst- and yeah. she gave my medical shampoo treatments.
now my scalp is better ♡ i see a lot of baby hair too ♡ and theyre all standing tbh haha! my hair got better ♡ though still thin. but im exploring on how to thicken the hair ♡
I wash my hair ever other day and usually use dry shampoo the day in between
It takes about 6-7 days for my hair to become greasy, I wash it every 5-7 days. My college bsf washes her hair everyday and it takes her hair about 18 hours to become greasy.
I have naturally straight, medium-thick hair and she has thin hair that has slight texture (her mom has curly hair).
Depends on your genes and lifestyle
I am 71 with very dry scalp.
I use coconut oil for scalp massages.
Sometimes I use an apple cider or baking soda rinse instead of a shampoo to just cleanes and refresh.
I love the hair dresser’s hair. I had always want similar hair because it remind me of Kozume Kenma’s hair in Haikyuu!!!
Pudding head. 🍮🍮
Wow this is interesting! I've always washed from the nape because I bend forward so my hair doesn't touch my body. But I'll have to try the double cleanse...my head does tend to smell at day two, plus I live in the tropics so it's mostly humid.
I just started where I wash it every other day and I condition my hair everyday
The oil makes sense!! I've seen a video (Ted-Ed dandruff) about how dandruff is created by these microbacteria that feeds on our natural oils (they poop out dandruff and it builds up). Since the oil is being eaten the scalp creates more oil and the bacteria keeps eating it.
Adding oil that the bacteria can't eat not only stops them from creating that buildup but also allows the scalp to slow down oil production - which lessens the bacteria in the first place.
I can't wash everday >_< working the night shift, the battle is should I sleep a little more or wake up kinda earlier to shower before work
>.
Ok, so you’re supposed to oil the sculp my question is how do you make it not look greasy or do you do it before washes only?
Exactly, balanced diet is all that matters. Hygiene has utmost importance. Washing every single day in summers is like a must.
Same goes to dog trend imagine people take their dog out where all bacteria roam and take their dog inside back to their homes, couch and bed some even share plate and let them get licked and people find it normal because it’s normalized. My hygiene got better with being pet free when i smelled some old clothes and moved to a new place i realized i smelled like the dog but didn’t realize because human body become immune to smell we are used to and all this time i smelled like that and people won’t tell you anything of course to not offend you, also saving the environment like this because unfortunately pets are causing a threat to the environment and extinction to tons of natural species who are contribute in the echo system, i wish more people are educated about this and media keep praising something mostly in america we have a huge dog worship because it brings money the billion pet industry hide facts and full of pseudoscience because some people cares about money so much
I have no hair (bald) and i do wash my scalp occasionally but maybe once every two weeks and my scalp feels great :)
It would have been interesting to see the the results of a person who never washes their hair & just gives it a damn good brush morning & night & let the natural oils do their thing. BUT u can (in my opinion) only never wash u'r hair if u'r hair is as dry as toast! Greasy hair...firget it!!
I agree
😂😂🤮
I put 1.5 pumps of shampoo into a bowl of water and mix it so that it produces more lather. I using baby or light shampoo, use 2 pumps. Works as good as shampooing twice.
I love your personality! This was very informative and fun to watch. 💕
wash everyday! still have the same amount of hair even tho i have an oily scalp with fine hair strands with natural curl
How many times should I wash my hair in a week when I have thick and half straight half wavy hair and also should I blow dry my hair or let it naturally dry?
washing your hair depends on ur hair type (oily, dry, normal)after u shower let it dry naturally cause blow drying it makes a lot of heat damage
like the person above said, it depends but here’s what i do. (sorry for the long response lol)
1. i think my hair may be similar to yours…
my hair is long (not sure what everyone else’s definition of long is but mine’s past halfway down my back.) and it’s also pretty thick and somewhat wavy. (it really depends bc some days my hair is like fully straight naturally and other days, it’s pretty wavy.)
2. how often i wash my hair…
i wash it every other day most of the time bc after a day or two my hair looks greasy at the top. i can’t go longer without washing bc i shower daily and if i don’t wash my hair while in the shower, it ends up getting greasy (maybe from the steam or something?)
3. how i dry my hair…
i let my hair air dry (most of the times i shower at night so i just let it dry while i sleep, but even in the mornings i let it air dry unless im going somewhere right after. it just takes so long for my hair to dry with or without a blow dryer.)
4. dry shampoo (even though you didn’t ask, it’s something that helps my hair…)
if you wouldn’t want to wash as often as you should, dry shampoo does work for me! it may work for you as well. the one that i use is “batiste clean and classic original.” it feels like my normal hair after i use it, and it’s great if i have no time to wash it!
hopefully this is helpful, but idk :)
Thank u all for your replies
Depends....if Im stressed out my hair gets more greasy and during summer of course I wash it more....depends on the circumstancrs...
People: *Telling me i smell good*
Me who hast showerd in three weeks: What?
Fr
I wash my hair every other day. It keeps the frizziness away. I have color in my hair. So, I use a colored treated shampoo and conditioner. 💖
If ur black you wash ur hair once every Sunday or once every other Sunday
Me too, not black- just older and dryer
This was all great but which oil(s) are recommended for hair please?
@Dis Array Thank you!
What oils should I use for a dry scalp? 💙 love the video
I mix jojoba Castor and rosemary essential oil!
@@scarlettb562 That is an interesting blend! When do you use this oil blend? Do you use it before you shampoo and all over your hair?
@@flipgirlnarie2292 just on my scalp the next before I wash!
