I converted all my wood mounted rubber stamps last year..I used the same climb foam. It works great. I however removed the stamp from the wood first. There are several advantages. First you waste a lot less of your foam sheet (that stuff is expensive) then when I stamped my image with stazon I traced around the rubber image with a soft pencil being very careful not to move the image. When I removed the stamp I had a perfect cutting line to match the image. The registration was almost always perfect.
I have done this process on a few of my wood mount stamps many years ago. But watching this video reminds me there can always be things to learn! Really liked the fingernail file for cleaning the wood burning tool! Thank you so much for sharing!
I've remounted dozens of stamps using a wood burning tool but with a different tip. I bought my tool at Michaels. It came with several tips but I use a blade tip similar to an Exacto narrow blade craft knife. It slices right up to the rubber very cleanly... no little bits left to cut off. You need to keep the knife perpendicular to the stamp to avoid undercutting the imagery. It's a very easy process. Best of all, replacement blades are available in packs of 3.
Great, clear instructions. Not sure when I would get around to doing this, but my first thought is...what to do with the wood blocks? I know people are super creative...all I can think of is applying vinyl sayings/images for decorative purposes for gifting. Any other thoughts?
I put my blocks in the microwave for 25 seconds to soften the adhesive. It comes off much easier. I have a microwave in the basement near my craft room for this purpose.
I have tried it. Its ok, just don't like using my microwave for that and it also is down the hall in the kitchen. I have another video coming out, were I use my heat tool. I find that to be very effective. I don't claim my way to be the only way, do what works for you. Thanks for watching.
I used the microwave method to remove all my wood mounted stamps. It was very easy. Because the foam comes off with the stamp I didn’t need to purchase new mounting foam. Nice to know a different method of doing this.
I have done it that way too. I find that I get a cleaner cut around the stamp the way I did it. The other way that I didn't show was after you clean your stamp off from the ink, place the stamp back down and then use heat tool and go around the rubber. That is actually the best way to do big stamps. I just forgot to show both ways. I like my stamp images to be pretty accurate so that when I am stamping on paper it will be the same as it is on the cling image. Hope this answers your question. Sorry I took so long to respond.
It is a basic wood burning tool. You can find them almost anywhere here in the US but I don't know where in Australia you would find it. Amazon is always a good place to start. Here is an example of one that would work fine. www.amazon.com/WoodBurning-Adjustable-Temperature-Pyrography-Beginners/dp/B0B1HS9MLR/ref=sr_1_60?crid=EP7TWZMF7P9X&keywords=wood+burning+kit&qid=1661552973&sprefix=wood+burning+kit%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-60
Hi, glad you are excited about maybe converting your stamps. I'm not dead sure if you're asking about after you convert them or before. If you're asking about after they are converted, the foam is static cling, so it sticks great to any plastic or acrylic block. If you're asking about before you convert the wood mounted stamp. I have taken them off the block before stamping onto the cling foam and put Aleene's tack it over and over on an acrylic block to use for those stamps that come without a wood block. I actually to be honest do not like the foam cling and sticker that Stamping Up do for their stamps, so I have converted some of them to my way as it works way better then with the sticker on it. I hope this answers your question. If not, please don't hesitate to message me again. I have a second video coming in the next week for stamp converting. It may answer other questions. Thank you so much for watching.
I've had the cling mount for a while. My problem was finding someone who knew what they were doing. I had no idea I could stamp the image on the cling. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I loved learning about the woodturning knife from you and the blades from a comment left below by @frand9174. It's like Christmas morning with all these so-called new-to-me stamps! My wallet thanks you too! New subbie here!
I totally realized i somehow got the black ez cling foam, im so bummed because now i have no idea how to get the stamped image on the cling side of the foam as black stazon isn't an option now. Any suggestions? Also, yeah the cling is not sticky like the good ones I've used, for example the new stampin up cling foam rubber stamps have a much nicer actually sticky cling backing but their old versions are much like my ez cling foam, not sticky at all, and requires alottt of pressure to get it to stick to my misti or a block abd still tends to fall off after first stamping. Is it just the one I got? Or is that typical? How do I fix it? :(
Hi! Stampin' Up actually has sheets of sticky strips you can put on your rubber cling stamps!! A friend on mine is a demonstrator and she told me about them when I was bemoaning the fact that I had some rubber cling stamps that weren't so sticky. They are quite handy. Hope that helps.😊
So sorry to take so long in getting back to you Tiffany. I have had no problems with the gray EZ cling foam. So, it must be the black kind. Here is a link to the one I buy. So sorry you had trouble. www.amazon.com/dp/B0070GIDA6?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_AVWZ6VAB6S72XAT3CJ9W
@@lettyscorner you're so sweet. You don't need to apologize at all, it's not even a problem with the ez cling mount foam really it's just that because I bought the black accidently I can't use black staz-on like every does to stamp the image over the cling side before mounting, so as to get a pretty close idea of what your stamping down when you use it, like the photo of the image on back of most rubber block stamps, but because it's black, stamping the image in black wouldn't do much good hahaah. But, I did manage to find white staz on, on Amazon and I'll be trying that, because other than staz on, I have no idea if any other ink would actually work on the cling side to stamp onto and have it stay put.
@@lettyscorner oh and shoot I should have edited my first reply. I don't think there's as much issue with the ez mount cling sticking as I thought, I think I thought it was the same as the old stampin up ones. That are ridiculous to try to get to stay on an acrylic block, vs their new ones that are so sticky, you can feel the sticky on it. But as the ez cling doesn't have any sticky feeling I think I just assumed it was going to be as troublesome. But we will see :)
@@lucyc hhaah yeah that's funny because it's my old stampin up cling foam stamps that really don't stick at all, and always fall off my misti and block pretty much destroying my project lol! But to have to spend even more money on them is annoying, and to order through a demonstrator and pay for shipping to Hawaii is a rather silly expense for the one item. But I've seen on Lindsey from the Frugal Crafters videos that you can spread some ayleens tack it over and over on the backs and it should work like a charm. So I'll maybe gift that a shot. But i do wonder, since I have the leftover pieces from sheets of cling adhesive from newer stampin up stamps but i was thinking I had to cut a full stamp size out to cover the entire non sticking cling side. But if they're selling strips, could you maybe put just a small square in the center or the stamp and have it still work effectively? That'd be great, much easier, and then i dint have to buy anything for those. Win win win Hahaha.

Thank you. I almost forgot that this was possible. With so many stamps that I have to convert, your tip is right on time.

I also just use the rubber stamp, no cushion, works just fine

Great video! I love the wood burning technique, awesome idea! 💕💕
Thanks for the info. Have 2 small drawer units Full of block stamps. This would free up a Lot of space.
I have another video coming in the next week, with a little more detail in wood block conversions. check back soon.
Intriguing video! Great editing too!
you can microwave a block stamp for a few seconds and easily remove stamp from the block.

Is there a reason you wouldn't cut out the picture outline you stamped and then place the stamp on the already cut out cling?

I did this but used the microwave for about 20 seconds. Wood is hot use a potholder. Most stamps come off easily.
What is the name of the cutter you are using and where would they be found normally I am located in Australia

Wouldn't it be easier to line it up properly on the stamp if you cut it out first and stuck it on afterward?

Put block in the microwave foec10 seconds and it comes right off
