The storm dropped a few inches in central MD too and a lot of places shut down yesterday just like TN.

Damn! We definitely weren’t expecting this here. We were told 3-4in and then during the storm it got increased to 6-8in

I'm from south Alabama, but I went to college in Wyoming. People freak out down here, and i vividly remember digging my car out of a snow bank to make it to class on time.

Absolutely true. When I lived in Maryland and it snowed we didn’t even cancel school. The biggest problem was your car being buried by the plow.

so many of the old winding roads don't get treated, and some are turtle back or lean to one side or the other for water to run off, my extended family is north east Tennessee and I am still in Maryland, so I know what you mean

I've been out doing uber 12 hours a day from Sunday night to today. Non-stop.
I drive a 2014 Toyota yaris hatchback with 350,000 plus miles.
People need to chill out. No pun intended

My area also got 8 inches of snow and it is completely covered in ice. Some of the areas are outright unpassable.
      Massive hills of just ice.
But you just go around the damn hill. Lol. 😊

Most people can't drive in the rain. I still think its funny that your considered the south. It's 20 degrees in south Louisiana right now and if we get rain half the state will shut down.

This snow was different from what we normally see in this area. Most times, it starts as rain and then changes to snow in a hurry, leaving a layer of ice and then getting heavy, wet snow on top of it. It often drops into the teens or single digits (which we are getting this time around) which freezes anything that was slush. At those temperatures, the salt doesn't work. You are correct in saying that the local communities don't have the equipment for snow removal versus what is seen in the Northeast or Midwest. Does it make sense to buy plows and salters to use once or twice a year, if you are lucky? Probably not. Also, think about your local property taxes in Middle TN (and the south in general) I would imagine that your taxes in MD were 3-4 times what they are here which is one of the reasons why the area is exploding. In today's work from home culture, there is even less of a reason to run a fleet of plows and work crews when it snows. School closures are more frequent here for a few reasons though I would bet that liability lawsuits are probably the main reason. School districts are very conservative about having kids in their control when bad weather is expected. Before I moved to the area many years ago, Nashville was hit by one of those snowstorms where temps dropped and snow hit hard. Metro schools were slow to release the students and buses got stuck in gridlock because of the road conditions. They had kids on buses for like 6-8 hours and parents had no clue where they were and they couldn't find them. You can imagine how the parents responded to that one. Even today, you will see schools closed when the main roads are clear and dry. That is caused by the conditions on the secondary roads what melt during the day and refreeze after dark causing bad black ice. That will be coming later this week and into early next week when the next round of cold weather comes in. As long as I have lived in the area, school districts have been very conservative in their policies for snow, heavy rain and storms. Sorry for the spiel but I understand how you feel with what you see having recently relocated to the area. Please understand that I am in no way criticizing the message in your video. Yours is a very common response to see how things are handled compared to New England, New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, or any other northern state. It is a difference in lifestyle that we experience when moving to the area. It is not better or worse - just different. Think about the fun in cruising around on empty snow covered roads - probably cannot do that in MD for very long !! :) Thanks for your video and keep them coming.

I completely understand everything you said and realized all of this after the fact when talking to my wife about it. We find very interesting which is what I decided to record our experience! Makes complete sense thank you for the response!
