    I was leaning towards the e-brompton but after watching this I have realised it would have been good just for my commuting when with this instead I could actually explore the country side too.

    Great review , i got my estarli 20,8 pro , today , first e bike , love it!!! Hoping to continue improving knee after surgery and actually get out and about . ( 70 yr old fart ) with a big smile on this bike.

      Enjoy it! And hope your recovery goes well. I don’t know about surgery but I’ve found the e-bike helps with recovery in general as it gets the joints moving without too much strain on them.

    Thanks for taking the time to show us another option that can enhance peoples experience of being outdoors - assisted or otherwise, bikes make life more fun.
    And no, you're not trying to sell us anything, just showing what YOU chose to buy and what YOU'RE enjoying and maybe someone watching may also like to try - Looks like fun!!!! Not sure why people think e-bikes are cheating though. There are lots of people that haven't been on a bike for 20-30 years and these things are getting them off the (their arses) settee and exploring.

      True, I always thought bikes for mountain biking were cheating and meant u weren't doing fitness. This is 1st video to make me view them as an oldie moped. And how good they are for the use of exploring without the sweaty downside. I want one

    I've got a folding ebike which I use in my van too. It's great for all the reasons you say. I also have a 'non-E' folder. The 'regular' folder is MUCH lighter than the E bike. I would definitely not want a heavier e-bike. Next time around I'll get a lighter one as the tech has moved on since mine was built, but it does all I need it to at the moment. Camping in the Netherlands for a city-wide event I pitched up the van and didn't move it for a week as I just cycled everywhere!

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  ปีที่แล้ว

      This eBike is 18kg, only about 4-5kg heavier than my non-e folder. But I’ve seen ones that are close to 30kg,

    The e20 is light. Light enough to pedal without assistance. The 7 gears are smooth and easy to use and help me find the sweet spot between gears and pedal assist. Big hills are manageable where the push bike would not have managed. In my case the battery lasts many days between charge.

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the insights Ian! Do you use it mostly like a normal bike with a bit of assistance? So far I've been lazy and just used full assistance.

    Stephen, that looked the biz. I'm in the market for a folding bike and was going to get a Decathlon effort for around £500 but this looks worth a punt for a ebike. Bonkers the battery is in the seat post.
    Cheers

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Robin. Yeah that’s something I forgot to mention, it doesn’t even look like an eBike. I looked at some cheaper ones myself early on, but was put off after seeing the one my dad bought for around £500. Very heavy, slow and not great brakes.

    • @WalkWithWallace
      @WalkWithWallace ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StephenJReid nice one mate, do you mind me asking if this was sent in return for a review or did you buy it?

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      So that’s complicated.
      I’ve had a lot of offers of free bikes and paid content from random bike brands. All of which I’ve turned down due to various concerns.
      I had already planned on buying this specific bike after doing my own research and checking all the reviews I could find.
      I reached out to Estarli to see if they would be interested in me paying for the bike with content. So they are getting a suite of videos and images in exchange for the bike. A TH-cam video would be part of this, but not the only thing.
      This was all dependent on me testing the bike for several weeks first to make sure it was something I actually thought was good.
      I’ve refused to make videos about multiple products in the past that weren’t up to scratch.
      So in short yes I was sent the bike in return for a video, but Estarli had zero input into the content apart from answering some of my questions.
      Every word I’ve said I mean and if the bike was rubbish, it would have gone back and I wouldn’t have made a video.
      Also just to point out I don’t get anything if someone buys one.
      Hope this is clear and I understand that some people will make positive videos about any old crap if they get it for “free”.
      In effect I’ve paid for it with several weeks of testing, multiple days of filming and editing.

    They certainly have moved on. I have a Brompton with an aftermarket motor which works well but I need a front bag for the battery and a big mains charger. My non electric Brompton is packed and ready for North Wales next week. You are so right about the Bromptons, great wee bikes on the road, but they don't cope with rough paths or mud. Cheaper bikes are definitely false economy, I cracked the frame on one 10 years ago (although adding clipless pedals probably didn't help, eejit!)

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it’s crazy how this doesn’t even look electric with the hidden battery. Brompton do make very nice premium folding bikes, I nearly bought one when I was living and working in Belfast but couldn’t afford it at the time.

    • @StephenJReid

    Great video Stephen as usual, shame about the ebike haters. I'm tempted to get one myself as I'm a bit out of shape and would struggle a bit going uphill. Just wondering how to keep it charged while travelling, can it be charge from the car/van while on the move or do you just always make sure you have an electric hookup at the campsites? Also if you run out of juice, is it much more effort to cycle?

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get a travel charger and plug into 12v in car/van. It’s fine to cycle if you run out as long as it’s fairly flat ground. It’s only about 5kg heavier than my non-electric folding bike.

      the whole point of a bike, if im not mistaken is to get fit / exercise. with the current wave of eco lunacy, e-bikes use power which comes from the plug...which comes from....

      look if adults want to dress in spandex and take their little electric toy e-bikes out and do whatever, cool, but its a bit weird tbh ( not to the bike-sexual community)
