  • Hi everyone, welcome to a day in the life of the artist! This week I made the first plein air watercolour study of this year. I was really looking forward to paint outside on a sunny day and I found a spot in front of the building I have to paint for a client. So the preparations are made for this commissioned painting. Thereafter a large oilcolour painting needed to be varnished en later we will visit the framer for this piece.

someting is really special with this sketch. it seems to reflect the peaceful atmosphere in this session. not at all overworked. for ex the tree to the right is splendid. and the white building is really a main character.

I like how you picked up the birds shape and tones and added them in. I know that you can add anything you want and make it live right in the artwork. You are a true artist with heart, mind and soul and sight.

The birds are a brilliant edition to the paintings! I actually loved watching you paint the birds over and over again. Very inspirational. I watch your videos to help me get over the times when I feel less motivated to make a painting. Thank you.

I really enjoyed the emotive narrative within the painting, which was captured & executed with employment of a warm initial wash. I believe great art is generated from " desire to express envisioned emotions " from what lies before us - within us and beyond us. Creating aesthetic difference from intention and chance is what bold artists do every day of their working lives. The practice and discipline itself is an enormous task involving intense cognition, and physical expression, and is like no other. Best wishes Titus 🙏

I just love the dog in the painting with the big boat, it makes the whole painting more interesting and more 'friendly" somehow... love the pigeons too, great idea! what a great place to have your studio - is the rest of the building artist studios too? when you have the painting framed Im guessing you just add the price of the framing onto the price of the painting so the buyer pays all? Here in the US framing is very expensive.. its hard to get work framed beautifully without paying a fortune. Adding birds is so right isnt it!! they are there all the time so right!!

Thanks for sharing your work, studio and thoughts with us. I love seeing other artist's studios and the process of a day in the life of a fellow artist. I love the choices you made in adding the pigeons to the piece that you felt was disjointed...you pulled it together nicely. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts and going for a car ride to the framers and watching you paint en plein air and engaging with the passers by. I get the output of energy required for that engagement. I'm gearing up to get back out of doors to do plein air as the weather warms here in my part of the world. I had wanted to do some winter out door paintings but it didn't transpire this year...it's easier in the spring, summer and fall. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for sharing. I have made videos of my work and life but haven't shared to youtube yet, ha, ha! I will get there! Your videos are inspiration.

Wat enig, die vogels in alle houdingen! En dat met een tamelijk dikke kwast. Veegje hier, veegje daar, en HOP! Bewonderenswaardig. Het schilderij wordt er inderdaad veel levendiger door.

I really enjoyed this video and your insight into letting go and going with the flow. I'm an artist that wants to be in full control always and I find my paintings are too rigid and don't have enough play in them. I'm loving your videos and your thought process, thank you for sharing, and a warm hello from sunny south Florida, USA.

i agree with you so much, about the experience of painting en plein air ... how we aren't in control , out in the natural world , and I think it's just wonderful !! I paint plein air quite a bit , with watercolors and also with gouache and casein, and every day is an adventure , to be sure!!! I love it , and think I learn sooo much more from doing it .. thank you .. norakag

Brilliant, very meditative videos. I had splash marks once and had to do birds 😺 I forget that birds are always around. We don’t have seagulls here in Philadelphia but we have lots of pigeons. You have so many varied birds in Den Haag, I’m jealous. I had a teacher say not to put so many details in the shadows but wow, your shadows are really everything in your watercolors. They really come to life. I’m loving your channel.

I’d cut off the top ½ or at least top ⅓ of the watercolour 5:09 before I cut off the bottom.
I find the shadows more interesting than the architecture or even the figure.
    Thx for the vid.

It's entirely your channel where you can do anything you please. Your art works are astonishing and I personally appreciate them a lot. But your content is a bit too personal with all the incoming phone calls, binding concerns, thoughts. It's real, lifelike, but like life and reality it also distracts from the main purpose.
I don't know if this sounds bitter. I didn't mean to convey any of that sense. Happy to see you paint brilliantly like a master anyway ❤️
