This week I was struggling again with a commissioned watercolor of the city Deventer, Holland. It made me quite upset and I decided to make something just for myself. That was a good hunch.
Next week (this monday) I will do an interview with watercolorpainter Amid El Haddad. Please leave your question in the comments for him!

I am finding watching your journey very interesting. The paintings that you do not feel are working, the changes you made to them, the street scene one that really did work and looks so alive and magical. And thank you to you for sharing your playlists, and thank you to those who asked about the music, I have been playing them in my own Studio and have found them really inspiring.

I remember when I was working full time as an artist, I was struggling, trying to paint and sell portraits that none wanted to buy. I learned that a beautiful picture is not enough for people to buy it, it needs to "MMMH!"- whatever that means. It needs to hit home, or spark something.
Ahh, that was so wonderful! As you spoke & even didn't speak at the beginning of the video I could hear your working on your window & scumbling with you brush & that was enough inspiration to complete a tiny oil I've been working on for way too long! It made me really happy to finish it! And, you had a breakthrough with your piece too & it was lovely! I thank you for your generosity in sharing your studio with us & I'm excited for your interview with Amid el Haddad next week!

The hardest step is the begining not the last one for the detailing , that's why I love the Impressionism which can always keep the begining feeling for your ARTS

You are so inspiring. I watch at least one of your videos every morning while having my coffee. I am on break - I teach graphic design for high school. I will go back in August, so I'm trying to soak up as much and create as much as I can before the daily schedule of teaching impacts my ability to make my own art. I studied watercolor in college. My BFA (Bachelor of Fine Art) degree is in watercolor because I felt it was the most difficult medium to master. Sadly, I haven't had much opportunity to work in watercolor since beginning teaching. Your calmness and lovely loose approach to the medium has inspired me to revisit it, to take chances. I like how you work through problem-solving. I'm so glad that TH-cam suggested your channel for me. Thank you for sharing your work and philosophies with us.

Like 666 here. Thank you for sharing your work and glimpses of your life. It is very motivational. I am a programmer, and this type of content brings creative balance and peacefulness to mine (life). Also, I see you like Nick Drake, -Pink Moon is a master piece- and other ambience music. I recommend the work of Jim Guthrie, which is a combination of both.

Titus, as I mentioned to you before, watching your videos as you work through location visits, time in your studio, sketching and executing your paintings from start to finish, and 'traveling' with you to your framer is like "candy to my soul". It's true! I have never enjoyed a painter's true thoughts, both negative and positive, as much as I do hearing yours. You make your videos interesting, thoughtful and focused on the development of your paintings and sharing your ideas with us. For this I am truly grateful for stumbling upon your channel! Your videos are fresh, peaceful, quietly instructive and like gold! I love your music as well! Thank you, Titus. Hallo Titus, ik houd erg van je beschouwingen tijdens en na het schilderen. Bijzonder dat je dit deelt.
Op dit moment zijn er Masters of Watercolor dagen in Leiden (georganiseerd door IWS) en niet toevallig, was ik al van plan om de demo te gaan zien van Amil el Haddad. Dat was gisteren dus.
Er hangt tevens een mooi stadsgezicht van hem, op de expositie daar.
Bijzonder dat je een interview met hem gaat delen volgende week. ben benieuwd en Succes!

So honest and lovely seeing the creative struggle that you as an experienced painter undergoes... As it provides reassurance to less practised creatives that good art is also the story of the battles you undertake to render work you proud of. Personally, I loved all the renditions you created - as it one is a different interpretation of reality we perceive. Inspirational Titus as always!

@@TitusMeeuws possibly consider a painting trip to Cape Town, South Africa. I think you will find the rich Dutch heritage very interesting to paint. The are amazing early Cape Dutch structures all over Cape Town you will simply love. Best of all the ZAR exchange with Euro is very attractive 😊

I just discovered your channel and am loving it. Your candid commentary is very illuminating, as is your painting process. I don’t know if you answered this question already, but what watercolour paper do you use? It looks very heavy weight, like 640 gsm? Thank you.
Hi, yes I prefer the thicker watercolorpaper. You saw that very well, it’s 649 gms. Thinner ones are good as well but they need to be stretched and that takes time…
I like to see someone doing something they want to do and love to do. I like the talking points and the studio and ofcourse the art! Good luck ! ( Unfortunately, I am an Investment banker! So we have all sold out souls !)

I keep them all. Don’t know why actually. Fortunately the amount of bad paintings is getting smaller

Hi Titus, was wondering are you using a hard graphite pencil so it won’t mix in with the watercolor paint ? I’m an oil painter not a watercolor painter but you’re inspiring me into giving it a serious go.
No I prefer the softer graphite pensils. It won't mix that much in the watercolor paint as long as you touch the paper only once in the first wash.
You look liké Rembrandt. Same face, same concern, same vital need to paint and seek, perfect one's technic , improve one's wirk

What is that long brush you use for making lines? I’ve never seen it?
Hi Marla, in holland we call it a “sleeper”. I found it in the shop and immediately bought it. It’s a quite strong synthetic brush
Do u have any advice on how to keep my paper flat or to flatten it afterwards? I work with paper taped down. Its a good paper (cold press 300 grms, etc) but it is not 100% cotton. Is that the issue? or would it not matter??
This question is open to anyone with experience who’s finished work isnt rippled or wavy. Thank u!
Hi, when you make the paper totally wet and then tape it down with special wet tape, it should stay straight after drying. For myself I prefer the thicker paper (680 gms). These are expensive but don't need to be stretched before and that saves time

So you have a nice little gig here. Talent for sure. However as an artist myself with over 2000 sold your biggest regret will be:"I wish I experimented and stretched myself way more. Being vulnerable is mostly what the best art is about. Did Matisse ever get stuck. Picasso? You've become "rote" apparently for money and perhaps our of fear. After seeing 10 I know nothing about you as a person and not one creative thought. I see draftsman that's all. Get cracking and become vulnerable.
Honestly after 3 shows I'm bored not only by the production but the art as well. Maybe you should take those headphones off get naked and start making big bold strokes with no photographs in front of you.
