    Hi, a different kind of video this week. I am looking for the right coloured passe-partout. I show you the importance of a colour that increases colours in the painting.
    When the watercolours are framed and delivered at the art gallery I have to do some telephone calls about new house portraits.
    And finally it's time to start a new watercolor.

    Titus, I am inthralled by your painting and especially your commentaries. You obviously know how to paint with watercolors and capture the mood in every work you do. I too have been painting with watercolors exclusively for over 30 years, starting in the early 1990’s. I don’t paint professionally. I am in my 8th decade of life but I still paint but not as enthusiastically as you do. Thank you Titus for making these videos.
    One comment I would like to make about your framing and choice of mat colors. I live in America, in the state of Texas and the mat colors are generally off-white for the most part. It is very rare that colored mats are used. Also in art competitions the frames are light colored wood as well. Just an observation on my part. 😊

      Thank you Rene! Here in The Netherlands colored mats are still a bit rare too, but some painters choose them because it really works well together with the watercolor. I am convinced totally

    Bildern sehr helfen. Vielen dank dafür.

    Titus I was thinking about your matte for your painting. I don’t know if you had decided on it or not yet but I have done a lot of matting also and I was trying to get a good look at your painting and it’s your decision but your warmer ground color which I believe is in the warm grey in the sky double matted with the red inside would really be beautiful. It would not be overwhelming with the small strip of red and the wider more warm neutral color. People change their mattes anyways anymore but it would catch a bit of attention.😊

    Hi Titus, thanks for sharing your awesome art with us! In the beginning of your process, you put in the first wash with a pretty aggressive scrubbing motion. I'm wondering what the advantage of that technique might be - is it to help get a smooth gradient? Or encourage granulation? Or perhaps another reason. I always put my washes in very softly and I'm going to try your way and see what happens :)

    • @TitusMeeuws
      @TitusMeeuws  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, good question. I noticed that watching myself in the video too! Well, the reason is only that I find a way to put the pigment/wash on the paper. Feels like finding your own way to bake an egg. Sometimes careful, sometimes rough. With a wet brush I want to ‘drop’ the wash on the paper if you know what I mean

  • @martagilvazartlife

    I'm the same, from watercolour out, I thought a darker red or even mustard, maybe black, I'm writing too early because this naturally would be a conversation 😊

    great tipp about the right color of passe-partouts! thank you for sharing! :)
    how do (potential) clients react, when they realize, that it needs a real dialogue, brainstorming... a process of preparing until you can start to paint?
    I am a freelance writer and I experience, clients are often times very impatient. It often times feels like, they kinda want me to read their mind and that I'd "just do" the work they don't have the time or skills for to do it themselves... I find that to be quiet difficult, to stand my ground and tell them that there is a need for a dialogue, that I need to get certain informations... so they actually can get what they want.
    Do you struggle with that too?
    Could you imagine to talk about all things pricing in another video too? f.e. calculating time, effort, materials... and how many sketches the clients can choose from, what you charge and don't charge for, paying upfront or afterwards... :) that'd be great to hear from a professional artist!
    I am just starting wih commission illustrations ☺🙋🏻‍♀
    best wishes

      Hi Elisabeth. For me it’s clear that the phase before I start the commission takes more time than the painting takes. It is an important phase to make everything clear and show a client some interesting details about the process. They will like that, certainly when they see you are serious and you enjoy the work. I will talk about that later

    So you always do your own framing, under glass or plexiglass, UV or not? Thank you!

    • @TitusMeeuws
      @TitusMeeuws  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, most of the watercolorpaintings are framed by the framer. I use normal glass, but ask the client if he/she prefers artglass (UV filter and no reflection)

    Does that refer to the mat surrounding the painting?

      Yes, please let me know If I use the wrong word, but here in Holland we use the French word passe-partout
