    I bought these recently off the back of Vince's recommendation and I honestly don't think I'll ever use another brand of acrylic metals. They really are that good. Thanks for the review, Vince!

    That is some sick looking metal paint! I watched your video of the different colors for shading & highlighting on a cannon barrel and was really impressed with these paints, you're not kidding. Will be picking them up when I order my airbrush setup in a couple weeks.

    Hi there! I have some Vallejo Metal Color paints that I have been using for two years now, love them. Thank you so much for sharing them with me, results have been so satisfying. I was wondering if you have a product you can suggest that I can use to thin down these paints? One of my pots (the copper one) has gotten rather thick, and I want to get it back to where it was. If you have any ideas, I am all ears. Cheers!

      You may want to just try a heavy agitator and a vortex mixer or something. The mix on them is very specific so I am not sure of an additive that will work.

    Started with Gunmetal and Duralinium in this range to get Titanicus-scale titans' substructure done quickly. It went on so beautifully that I shed a tear for all the time I spent brushing on leadbelcher beforehand. I still love titans, and all that armour trim means I'll be upping my masking game, and airbrushing on copper and gold to get it done. what a range.

    I don't have the Vallejo Metals (on order), but I believe you can thin them and then mix them with other acrylic colors to get some tonal variation. Might be worth experimenting with. Dan

      Yep, I have played with them some and you can push it around. You can also mix in the Metal Color Silver to brighten up the gold.

    Thanks for taking the time to make this video, I've seen way too many for what I need, but you make them very watchable.
    Hopefully you can help with the following question. Would you think this Vallejo Metal Color would work as a retouch paint for gold decals of sewing machines? Usually these surfaces are layered with japanning, gold decals or 'gold' paint (I have no idea what they used in the 1880's tot 1900's as gold paint) and than shellac as a protective coat. When details are faded, the shellac (which dissolves easily in alcohol) is worn away, and often with chunks of black japanning as well. I think I can figure out how to fix the black japanning (either enamal paint or nail polish), but the gold decal/paint retouching is bit tougher. So perhaps your expertise on paint and surface can point me in a direction.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think it would work, it's pretty tough and as long as the paint has something to adhere to, it should work.

  • @arsenmarek597

    As you mentioned the gold as a greenish tone. Over the time as you find a good recipe to get a more yellow-red gold. I have tried mixing vallejo yellow and red ink. This is one of the very few weakness in the range there are tons of aluminum colors which end up quite samey but a lack of more diverse colors.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, my general mix is to put a drop or two of copper into a larger mix of gold to warm it up.

    Just one question: if I already have Darkstar molten metals Cooper and Gold, do you think it's a good idea to buy these too, or not to do It and going right to the silvers range?
    Again, thank you very much.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, my strong feeling is the steel is the real strong point and would definitely be my top thing to acquire. I love the gold and copper, but if you are happy enough with Dark Star, then keep those for now, try the Steel, and if you love them like most who use them do, then go for the gold/copper.

      @@LoftOfTheUniverse Yes, Vallejo Metal Color gold (on it's own) isn't very useful, it's a cold, green gold, but mixed 3-1 Gold/Copper, it's a wonderful rich tone (as the copper is very red and Red + Green make brown).

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a little more red, but not much. I think overall it's pretty close, but a little touch of the gold would probably bring it in line.

    @marcolivier5440 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant (literally)!
    Looks like I'll invest in the gold, copper, silver steel to make my own range; looks quite simple to get an Old Gold-like result. As much as I adore the results of liquid gold, on a large army (and on large models...) all of the little quirks of the paint become very grating.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marc Olivier I love the Old Gold, it's just the richest tone. I haven't quite been able to duplicate it yet, but as soon as I can, I would put the Liquid Gold away. That being said, the metal color line has been the best investment I have made in a long tie, so smooth and easy to use.

    • @marcolivier5440

      +Vince Venturella Decided to buy a bottle each of Copper, Silver and Gold even though I have no equipment on hand right now. A 4-1-1 mix of Gold Silver Copper makes a pretty beautiful gold shade, and upping the Gold to 5 or 6 gets close to Old Gold (if I remember the shade). This mix is definitely going to be my main gold, seeing as I can airbrush it.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marc Olivier Awesome, I will have to check that ratio and see how it looks.

    Hi Vince - You've made me a VMC convert and I really try to avoid using any other metallics if I can. I'm trying to mix up a brighter brass color (like runelord brass) for some of the new Necrons (using your 3:1:1 and adding more Pale Burnt Metal), but as I go brighter it feels like it's getting too desaturated. Should I look at mixing in some glossy inks to get where I want to go? Side question - Have you had any issues with bad pots of Pale Burnt Metal? My first two pots have totally seized up on me.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think sometimes you have to work in some brown inks to get the right tone. Brass is a tough color. As to pale burnt metal, I've never had an issue, but it's always possible to have some bad paints in any range.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      About 1-1 or slightly less thinner, that is my minimum for most of my work. It's always easier to put on two thin layers than clog your airbrush. :)
