  • In this video I review the Vellejo Model Wash range. Though intended for vehicles and weathering, I have found the range interesting for other uses as well.
    Overall Grade: B

    Only just got to this video Vince but the Grey looks like a great product. Ordered today and expecting tomorrow. Can't wait to put it to use!

    I found a good use for the blue/grey wash to add shading effects on black capes like Darth Vader, Batman, etc. Also works for tinting TIE Fighters a proper bluish grey.

    I am not home right now so I can't remember which gray I use, but I use one of the grays for my Warhammer Empire (kings of war League of Rhodia) army that is painted in the red and white tabberhiem color scheme. it is able to get on the whites and not change the color too much but still give a little bit of shading. my empire army is speed painted and I only have a few test models actually finished but I love the stuff.

    Great review I have used these a lot. Like you the greys all of them are my favourite but the grey and light grey I use for easing white. Havent used the agitators but good idea. Definitely a go to product line for me. Picked up the white but havent used it yet.

      +HeresyProducktionz Yep, I really like the greys, they are just fantastic. I want to try that white for sure, I am just not sure if it's textured.

    Great video! I have a request, Could you do a video explaining and demonstrating the differences between mediums? There’s Flow Aid, lahmian medium, glaze medium , thinner medium, etc .... it gets confusing. Thanks!

    Thanks for the great video - you have me convinced the dark gray needs to be part of the arsenal. I have a question about another possible use for this wash (or what alternative you would advise): could it be used for laying down a base color over a large area? What I have in mind is a "black dragon" color scheme for the carmine dragon - I have zenithal primed and am worried about losing the underlying graduation. This is my first time trying to paint over a zenithal undercoat for something this large, so I'm a bit unsure what would be the best thing to use particularly given that it's highly textured with all the scales. I don't have an airbrush unfortunately so whatever I go with will be slapped on with a brush. Before seeing this video I was simply thinking something like thinned down Vallejo black.

      @VinceVenturella  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wouldn't be good for that purpose as it dries very, very thin and would basically not move the color much. I think your original thinking was correct. My tactic on large dragons I want done relatively quickly is zenithal, directional drybrush of a cold dark color (blue or purple for black dragons), then an all over controlled dilutted black ink wash. Then some fixing by hand to adjust the edges.
      Hope that helps.

    ok sorry for spamming your comments, I use the light gray. I haven't used the dark grey. I will try it out as well. I have not really had the problem with my paint separating. grant I I am doing speed painting quick techniques so I am not doing as detailed as what you are doing.
    I do have to say again though that the light grey is great for painting over white where you just need to shade the white but you want to keep the white.

      +Skolbro's Tabletop Agreed, and that is why I like it, mine just tends to split apart, but I can put up with that :)

    You’ve really sold me on how effective the dark grey wash works for shading colors down (as well as other uses). Do you like an equivalent product for lightening up colors? Also, since this review is from quite awhile back, have you replaced the dark grey wash with something else that’s even better or is it still your go-to? TIA!

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No issue, honestly, I like a good payne's grey ink thinned way down. That's become my go-to. but the technique is still something I do.

    Hi Vince, wandering if you still use the Dark Grey wash or that something like Payne's Grey ink for shading and an black oil wash for panel lining have replaced it? My LGS has the Dark Grey wash in stock for 4,50 euro, so that's not too bad.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's mostly been replaed by Payne's Grey ink.

    What would be a good color in this range that would replace Agrax Earthshade?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmmm...Not sure any of them really would unfortunately. If you're looking for an alternative, army painter strong tone is your go to agrax replacement.

    Are you still using the dark grey just as much as at the time of this video? If so does it work well with warcolours paints?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use it some still, I actually use some black inks a little more now, but I have used it with Warcolors and it works just fine with them, no issue, great mix for darker colors.

    • @adams55250
      @adams55250 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vince Venturella which do your prefer now?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably just pure black ink. It's easier for me to thin for a variety of purposes and intensities, but I do still use the Dark Wash, just not as much as I once did.

      +IDICBeer Thank you sir, very much appreciated. I think for 40k players, this stuff would be amazing for big vehicles (I say that knowing you were recently working on some sweet 40k stuff, but they were eldar, which tends to be cleaner and less weathered) :)

    • @VinceVenturella

      It's okay, it's very light, it's good for the sort of snow burn effect you sometimes see on tanks.
