‘Big adventure’. I absolutely love that. My grandfather graduated from Oxford in the mid 60’s, he was a lucky man to be accepted from west Belfast. He moved my dad and uncles to the US in the 70’s so long story short, here I am. My grandmother, who has never lost her ulster accent, always explains her immigration as a Big Adventure. I’m not sure why that brought tears to my eyes but growing up I learned about the troubles in Northern Ireland. My grandfather settled in Orlando and using his Oxford degree, he was an engineer on many space projects, as that is central floridas main credit to fame. It’s known now here, if you get a good job at nasa or Lockheed Martin or Siemens, then you’ve done good. My grandfather was from west Belfast but has multiple space flight inventions credited to his name. I seriously can not explain to you how much the term ‘big adventure’ hits home for me and my family. God bless
Thank you Barry & Max for this educational presentation. Your recounting of how you both fulfilled your dream is absolutely fascinating. Additionally I wanted to thank you especially for the last part of the presentation, where you’re enjoying afternoon beverages at the public house, where I was very happy to see that none of the patrons were masked. So refreshing to see that now days, thank you for this great presentation.
I have lived in Orlando for over forty years and the biggest difference in that time is the population has grown, home prices sore and then fall and people are moving in and out constantly, it is hard to make long term friendships.
I love orlando, first visited in 1997 with my little sister and my fiancé. We then returned the next year on honeymoon. We have visited every year since ( apart from lockdown). As soon as borders opened we were on next available flight. Our sons share the love of Florida and can't wait to return soon, i often think about moving but I couldn't leave my parents and sisters. Was Brilliant to watch your experience xx
Really great to see that the risk paid off and now you appear to be living your best lives. Miss you guys tremendously having been a large part of my life for so long and helped out so much through the difficult times. Hope you have enjoyed your visit and I look forward to seeing you next year when Ryan comes over!
What a lovely heartwarming story and also very informative for those who might be thinking about a move to the States, you certainly have loads of things to factor in so it's definitely a good idea to listen to someone who has already made the move. I found you through the Lodge Guys (I love them both to bits) they are just the best. Have a lovely day Mr & Mrs Bazza 😊 xx
Just found you guys through the lodge guys . Absolutely brilliant informative vlog and a great introduction to you both and your journey . Thanks so much for sharing x
I was looking for your vlog on the DAS pass and found this one. Really interesting hearing your story, we have been visiting the USA for the last 35 years and people used to ask us why we did not move there and I used to explain it was not that simple although we have family in Washington DC and friends in Michigan who would have sponsored us the health cost always worried us. So glad it all worked out for you and thanks for your advice on your vlogs about the airports etc in Orlando even though we have been many times I have found them useful as things are always changing.
Really enjoyed listening to your story of how you fell in love with the USA and Florida, ours is a different one which started in April 1994. Our youngest daughter contracted Leukaemia in December 1992 and the "Make a Wish" Foundation granted Carla's wish to go and visit Micky Mouse while staying at Give Kids the World village in Kissimmee. Carla passed away in December 1994 and although we lost her, she gave us our love of Florida as she was so happy here. Also why our villa is called "Wishes".
American Express is a good tip for getting a US credit card. They have a policy that if you hold a card in UK they will give you one in US and carry over your UK credit history. Was only option to get a US CC when I first moved over, and helped me get a credit history established after moving over.
Enjoyed that. We have just moved from Wigan UK to Orlando this Feb 2022. We love it here. I am an ICU nurse working in AdventHealth Orlando. It is an amazing lifestyle here that most Americans take for granted. I lived here for nearly 6 yrs back in 1996 till 2001. Unfortunately though the vast majority of British Trained nurses can no longer work in the USA since around 2000. The EU destroyed the nurse curriculum by removing pediatric psychiatric and obstetric modules from the general training thus making UK nurses ineligible to take the NCLEX state board exam. I was lucky back in 1995 and did the older training. We are here to stay now. No going back!
Have just "discovered" your videos and am already hooked after just two!! The scenery in this one is really lovely and very Last Of The summer wine ish! The food looked good too. I always thought that Orlando residents were given free passes for the theme parks as yes they are not cheap. Look forward to watching more....
As a product of an E2 visa kid 😅 I want to add that in order to qualify for the E2 it has to be an existing business that you purchase that hires US Citizens. You also have to have an astronomical amount of Working Capital in order to even be considered. It’s also worth noting that with the E2, any children that you have must either be enrolled in College (paying international rates, ouch!), get married, be sponsored by a US company or go home once they turn 21. It’s cruel, but a very real reality. My Mum and Dad worked their behinds off in order to make it work, and sold almost everything we owned to make the dream come true. That was 20yrs ago. I since met my husband over here and was able to sponsor them to be able to become citizens. It’s absolutely not for the faint at heart, it’s a big leap of faith. I’m thankful they took that chance . I now live in Orlando with my wonderful husband and two beautiful children ♥️

Barnokdswick built the HP turbine blades and the main fan blades when I was there. All the engines were assembled in Derby. The test beds were decommissioned before I started there
@@ThemeParkBazza thanks for the quick reply I started working at Derby in 1989 on the RB211 G and E4 building the complete engine from fancase to test bed great times , just watched the new firework show online from Magic Kingdom no real emotions . Very good effects though

@@ThemeParkBazza It was just a light hearted comment.- it sounded like you were moving to Barnoldswick! And, even coming from south Lancs (Rochdale), I'd no idea that RR had a facility nearby.
Our families still live there and we do go back each summer . The factory started in the second world war to build Merlin engines for the spitfire and Lancaster bombers. It’s real claim to fame is it built the RB211 engines that powered the first Boeing 747s and still power the BOEING 757s today . RB = Rolls-Royce Barnoldswick
Thanks for this video. My parents and I went out to Florida and lived there for 4 wonderful years.. but sadly due to visa being E2 and timings was quite bad had to come back to england
It’s tough to find a way to come out here, we were lucky to get sponsored by a company and they paid for my green card. A once in a lifetime opportunity
Just found your channel through Nick and Leigh. I worked at a Summer Camp in WV and on our days off we would be dropped off at a Wallmart in Charlottesville VA for our days off.
Haven't watched all the video yet, but love it so far. Interesting phenomenon at the start of the video where the the canal water is flowing backwards and uphill into the discharge pipes. ;) Must be a UK thing. LOL
Hi Barry & Maxine, We found you through Nick & Leigh. This is a great video, very informative and transparent. Moving to the US is something we’d like to do eventually. We’re from Burnley originally, been living in Australia for 14 years. We came here with my ex-husband’s job, a similar experience to yours in moving to the US, sponsored by an employer, had to medical, police checks etc. I don’t think I want to grow old and grey here though. Love to catch up with you guys next time we’re there if you’re free (July 2022) ?
What a journey u were on. I work for an American company and did think a few years ago to see if could relocate but was so much else to consider. We now love Orlando for vacation, meant to be there in November all depends on what the end to end testing will be. Otherwise next year.
Great video lots of useful information. My parents spent 10 years out in the Orlando/Clarmont area before moving back a few years ago. But other family are considering moving out there. I love it for holidays, but not sure I could live out there full time unless I didn’t have to work 😀.
Would be good to hear about pension/Social Security situation after moving, and also Medicare if you have less or more than 10 years contribution history in US, after moving from UK. Are you aware of 7 year green card rule and “exit tax”? Also they tax you on world wide income even if you move out of US in future. Thoughts on that?
I can still claim my UK pension as I worked there for 24 years before moving. We have been here for nearly 2o years, and as citizens, we are entitled to both Medicare and Social Security at 65. We are aware of all the tax rules , I have a financial advisor who works with expats and I would advise anyone moving her to do the same
You make it sound easy. I’ve always wanted to live in Davenport. I really love the weather and the easy lifestyle. How expensive is the medical insurance? I bet it’s a lot. Bazaar and Max you have a lovely life and are so knowledgeable about most living costs which makes it real.
Good tips on moving to USA/Orlando. Its definitely a dream for a lot of people but not as easy as I thought and expensive to live there by the sounds of it. I love the idea of going to disney or Universal after work or just to be able to go in the evenings or weekends. Sounds great. My aunt and uncle live in Skipton. He used to go around to different shows competing in competitions after growing his own vegetables. Actually had the world record for the biggest onion years ago 😀 Did you know the Lodge Guys before you moved to Orlando.
It took us about a year to get our citizenship ( you have to be a green card holder for a minimum of 5 years ). We had to go through a lot of steps but all 4 of the family achieved citizenship in the 12 months. Comes in very handy traveling around the world.
Great vlog guys, lots of detail in there. Glad it’s all panned out and you’re living the coaster and cocktail life 😎🙌. Did think it was weird and an uncharacteristic vlog… until right at the end when I saw a pint 🍻 😂😂
Thank you for the lovely canal walk. We bounced around the world via my husbands career as an R&D Electronic/Electrical engineer mainly with large US companies. Being adventurous and willing to leave family behind plays a big part. Avoided Silicon Valley for as long as possible but ended up there in 1996 and have been here ever since (we are in our mid 60s). It is a big adjustment and there are things that still drive me nuts. But there are many pluses as well. BTW - are you sure you are filming in England - I do not recognize that blue stuff behind your head 🤣😂
You can’t leave the country for a considerable amount of time either otherwise you loose permanent residence status. Health insurance is very expensive there. Thank goodness for our NHS you talk about the planes, but wasn’t it great to see the space shuttle go off back in the day? But the sonic booms when it landed was something else. I didn’t like the alligators and snakes when I lived in Orlando.
Thankyou for sharing that , do you see USA as your forever country and of you don’t mind me asking do your children live and work in the us, also I am guessing mrs baza love Christmas is Christmas very special on the us I always think it looks so magical , I think the two of you are amazing x
Hello u, loved hearing all about ur journey to the USA. So interesting 😊 The bridge noises, so funny 😂 we are currently in our hotel room after a not so successful trip to Alton Towers 😕 And ur making me smile as always. Hope ur both ok and settled back into American life. Lots of love xx
Good afternoon I was watching your TH-cam video how did you move to the usa and what did it cost you or what type if paper work you did to move over there
Hi Bazza, Another top video. Me and my wife have talked about moving over for a few years. She is a nurse which we always thought would be our way in. The only thing that now puts us off is your comment about $30,000+ for kids college - we have 2 kids! Any advice or ways around that?
@@ThemeParkBazza My teeth wouldn’t stop chattering when I moved back home from Orlando , I lived there for twelve years . My two sons were born there. Im glad I had the experience, but home is where the heart is. But so pleased you have settled well.
My mum and dad used to own a place in Davenport. I would love to move out there but haven’t a clue where to start. I have a clean criminal record obviously and have commercial gas engineering qualifications as well as various electrical qualifications! Any advice you could give me please would be much appreciated!
Trick is to work for or get sponsored by an American company. Check out Job sites such as "Indeed" , "Monster"or "ziprecruitor " .com for positions. Would need to be a large company to sponsor the transfer from the UK
Can i ask you what age were your children when you moved and also if not too personal how old were you and is there a cut off point with age for moving with a company. Your realtor name would be appreciated. Loving all the vlogs BTW.x
Chloe was 9 and Ryan was 13 . I was 39 , there was no cut off point it was more the skillset I had that was hard to find here in the USA. Also companies are looking for diversity and that includes brining people in from other countries. The realtor we used is called Mario Restrepo - mariorealtor1@gmail.com
its so sad I wish I could move me and my family over to the us I really do it just seems so hard unless you have a really good job or work in line and plus I don't have any GCES or in work right now what would you say the best thing to do if I really did want to move over to the usa
Hi guys, really enjoyed this video! Me and my family are wanting to relocate to Orlando too! I am based near Whalley Lancashire and currently work in aerospace, did you relocate through rr bazza? Regards Dom
Don't forget the little lizards everywhere i been to Orlando 4,times in the last 5,years and they every were thanks for the information very entertaining
I enjoy your vlogs very much. I do have a question for you. You decided to become full citizens here. I wonder if it was mostly so you could vote. Voting becomes a big deal here and it seems like elections are constant news now. Twenty years ago, most elections had similar candidates, not a huge change like now, where the next president deletes everything the last one incorporated and then 4 years later the new does the same. Was it because your lives are changed by who is empowered now that you decided to become full citizens, in order to have a voice in elections? That would make sense to me.
You are correct, so we could have a voice in the presidential elections. As Green card holders the only three things we could not do were Jury service, be called up for Military service and Presidential election voting
We do get selected for jury duty! So that may happen now. Shouldn't call you up for military; good thing you aren't in Russia where most men are being mobilized, sadly.
Glad you like FL. I'm US born but I love the UK. Wish it was easy to move there....You could get annual passes to the theme parks and pay a small monthly fee...just a thought..
Going through the visa process at the moment, covid has slowed it down by a ridculous amount (years) Any advice on making friends in the US? Thank you :) x
Interesting story/journey. What do you do about a pension? I assume you have one through work but if you’re just retiring there, how does your U.K. personal pension come into play? Are you still entitled to it or do you have to transfer the fund to a US provider? I was going out to LA quite a bit about 10 or 11 years ago & I really liked it there. I’m not a fan of heat by any stretch but it’s a dry heat rather than the humid heat you find in Florida. I liked San Diego & Santa Monica too. Not that it’s ever likely to happen but the idea was a romantic one 😂
I rolled all my private UK pension funds into something called a QROPS, designed for expats leaving the UK. I am entitled to a UK state pension as I paid in my dues for 24 years before leaving.

EPCOTs best year was in the year 2000, the best celebration ever!
I was wondering how you and Max made it to the US! Really interesting, honest vlog.
Thank you, we had some luck , it's been quite a journey
Thanks for this video. My parents and I went out to Florida and lived there for 4 wonderful years.. but sadly due to visa being E2 and timings was quite bad had to come back to england
It’s tough to find a way to come out here, we were lucky to get sponsored by a company and they paid for my green card. A once in a lifetime opportunity
Just found your channel through Nick and Leigh. I worked at a Summer Camp in WV and on our days off we would be dropped off at a Wallmart in Charlottesville VA for our days off.
We lived in Charlottesville 2005 until we moved here ( Orlando ) 2 years ago
So interesting hearing how you ended up moving to the US and some fun anecdotes throughout the walk too, RIP Bazza haha
They marched me round the front of the factory where everyone else was to shame me, I saw it as a badge of honor :-)
Haven't watched all the video yet, but love it so far. Interesting phenomenon at the start of the video where the the canal water is flowing backwards and uphill into the discharge pipes. ;) Must be a UK thing. LOL
Something I did to see who noticed :-)
@@ThemeParkBazza Sneaky. Actually, I had to back up the video again to make sure what I saw is what I thought I saw.
Hi Barry & Maxine,
We found you through Nick & Leigh.
Possibly but we are back in the UK most of July for our family holiday
What a journey u were on. I work for an American company and did think a few years ago to see if could relocate but was so much else to consider. We now love Orlando for vacation, meant to be there in November all depends on what the end to end testing will be. Otherwise next year.
Fingers crossed for November !
@@ThemeParkBazza either or we don't mind. Tenerife will be the other option. We can wait for another 12 months if need be
I love coming to America, but I don’t think I could ever leave old Blighty 🇬🇧 too many creepy crawlies in Florida for me too xx
At least we don't have the bears here we had in Virginia. Could not put our bins out overnight
Great video lots of useful information.
My parents spent 10 years out in the Orlando/Clarmont area before moving back a few years ago. But other family are considering moving out there. I love it for holidays, but not sure I could live out there full time unless I didn’t have to work 😀.
Unfortunately you need to work to get medical coverage until retirement age
Depends which coverage you get , minimum coverage is about $300 per month
Good tips on moving to USA/Orlando. Its definitely a dream for a lot of people but not as easy as I thought and expensive to live there by the sounds of it. I love the idea of going to disney or Universal after work or just to be able to go in the evenings or weekends. Sounds great. My aunt and uncle live in Skipton. He used to go around to different shows competing in competitions after growing his own vegetables. Actually had the world record for the biggest onion years ago 😀 Did you know the Lodge Guys before you moved to Orlando.
Well we have been watching the lodge guys vlogs since 2019. We met for the first time last September on our UK trip
Great video and so jealous. I long to get back to 🇬🇧. Very interested on your experience with Duel citizenship 👍😎😉😉
It took us about a year to get our citizenship ( you have to be a green card holder for a minimum of 5 years ). We had to go through a lot of steps but all 4 of the family achieved citizenship in the 12 months. Comes in very handy traveling around the world.
@@ThemeParkBazza thank you. Would like to chat about actual experience sometime 👍
Great vlog guys, lots of detail in there. Glad it’s all panned out and you’re living the coaster and cocktail life 😎🙌. Did think it was weird and an uncharacteristic vlog… until right at the end when I saw a pint 🍻 😂😂
You do donuts. we do pints 😀
We were really lucky, there for 4 weeks and it only rained a couple of days. We had our shorts on for two weeks
I am a Citizen of both the UK and USA so I think there are no restrictions on being out of the country
Hello from Skipton 🙋🏼♀️
Hello from Orlando !
Thankyou for sharing that , do you see USA as your forever country and of you don’t mind me asking do your children live and work in the us, also I am guessing mrs baza love Christmas is Christmas very special on the us I always think it looks so magical , I think the two of you are amazing x
Yes we have no plans to come back to the UK. Both our kids live and work up in Virginia, they both usually come down for Christmas to see us
I was not aware that you guys were such roller coaster junkies! You will love DLPs Space Mountain, I start shaking just thinking about it! LoL
We would love to go on DLP space mountain
New viewer, very interesting.
Thanks and welcome
I saw you on The Lodge guys x
Who, never heard of them ? :-)
Interesting to hear your journey. Not sure I could do a summer living in Florida 😂😂 It’s why we tend to visit in Nov/Dec
Its a tad warm i have to say
I miss Timothy Taylor’s beer! That pint had a proper head on it!!
It was really good !
My son in law is area manager at Timothy Taylor’s
Hello u, loved hearing all about ur journey to the USA. So interesting 😊 The bridge noises, so funny 😂 we are currently in our hotel room after a not so successful trip to Alton Towers 😕 And ur making me smile as always. Hope ur both ok and settled back into American life. Lots of love xx
I saw you said it was raining , stay dry , don’t catch a cold xxx
Fingers crossed we’re all good. U off to MK tomorrow still? Stay safe if u are, it looks manic over there at the mo 😳 xx
Yes that’s the plan, let the crowds dissipate a bit
Good afternoon I was watching your TH-cam video how did you move to the usa and what did it cost you or what type if paper work you did to move over there
Go check out our vlog " how we moved to the USA"
Very interesting. My son and his wife have been in California for about 10 years now. Property is so expensive out there 😮
Bonkers prices
Hi Bazza, Another top video. Me and my wife have talked about moving over for a few years. She is a nurse which we always thought would be our way in. The only thing that now puts us off is your comment about $30,000+ for kids college - we have 2 kids! Any advice or ways around that?
If they can get a scholarship because they a special skill or a trade course at a community collage ( plumber / electrician )
Once you step onto Florida soil you become permanently solar powered! its very hard to return to snowy weather, you would really miss sunny days!
We enjoyed the break from humidity in the UK but the sun puts a smile on you face definitely
@@ThemeParkBazza thanks you very much
Welcome to The States! 🇺🇸
Thanks Tony, we are all citizens as well now 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great. Vert interesting.😎👍
Thank you
If ya don’t mind me asking what do you do for a living
Hi Shaun , we do not share that information publicly .
@@ThemeParkBazza thank you for the info will be getting in touch with the realtor.
@@jaynedawson4084 Let him know I gave you his name.
its so sad I wish I could move me and my family over to the us I really do it just seems so hard unless you have a really good job or work in line and plus I don't have any GCES or in work right now what would you say the best thing to do if I really did want to move over to the usa
The best thing you can do is get a job with a US based company with an office in the UK. You then may get chance to transfer internally as I did.
@@ThemeParkBazza I will look
Into it thank you bro I hope so enjoy it man
@@ThemeParkBazza I just don’t know if I could work in a office
Hi guys, really enjoyed this video! Me and my family are wanting to relocate to Orlando too! I am based near Whalley Lancashire and currently work in aerospace, did you relocate through rr bazza? Regards Dom
No nor through RR , I left them in 1990. I Joined an automation company in Milton Keynes, owned by GE ( General Electric), and relocated with them
Can you do a video about gators and living along side them please
We don't see swampy often , we have vlogs up on Jeff before he was taken away
@@ThemeParkBazza thanks I will look back on them
Don't forget the little lizards everywhere i been to Orlando 4,times in the last 5,years and they every were thanks for the information very entertaining
And can you tell us were to avoid in Orlando went to a football game last time and got lost in a very rundown place
Yes I call it Jurassic Park and hum the tune sometimes as they scurry around us
Every city has some sketchy areas to watch out for
Very interesting 👌
Thank you
I enjoy your vlogs very much.
They are small prices to pay to be able to vote
I hope to retire to Florida.
So do we :-)
Glad you like FL. I'm US born but I love the UK. Wish it was easy to move there....You could get annual passes to the theme parks and pay a small monthly fee...just a thought..
I also live in Florida. 21 years now..
Going through the visa process at the moment, covid has slowed it down by a ridculous amount (years) Any advice on making friends in the US? Thank you :) x
Not really, not a lot you can do apart from be patient x
How bizarre seeing Barnoldswick on a vlog (longest town in uk without a double letter in it)
I think I have used the description of the longest name without a letter repeated well over 100 times :-)
The British REALLY love their canals! LoL
Yes we do !
Why did you move to the United States of America?
Hi Dennis , it’s quite a long story. We told it in this vlog th-cam.com/video/hakvYmz9uAs/w-d-xo.html
Awesome! Love it
Thanks!!
