I live in Alachua County (Gainesville) which is the one of the top 5 most expensive counties in Florida to live and has the highest utility costs per month. This is considered north central so we’re 90 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean (St. Augustine or Jax) and 90 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico (Cedar Keys). We’re 1 1/2 hours from Tampa, 2 hours from Clearwater Beach. Gainesville used to be a beautiful family city; however, the crime rate has skyrocketed, especially violent crimes including murder. Our utility costs are THROUGH THE ROOF because we only have one provider so there’s no choice. For whatever reason, Gainesville has been allowed to have a legalized monopoly because our only utility provider is Gainesville Regional Utility. It’s common to pay $500 a month for electricity/water/sewer/trash while living in a 2 bedroom apartment that cost you $1,500 a month to rent! Insurance? Forget it! Health, car, home, renters - it doesn’t matter, no one can afford it now. We have a HUGE homeless population because we’re considered a sanctuary city; however, city officials do absolutely nothing to get these people some help. With this increasing homeless population, we now have trash thrown absolutely everywhere. We went from a clean beautiful city to a trash dump. Gainesville residents are flooding out of this county. I’m not far behind but I’ll be moving to a cheaper area in Florida. There’s no way in hell I’ll ever live anywhere north of Florida again.

Everyone's situation will be different. For us, moving from the NW suburbs of the Chicago area down to Bradenton, our total state income tax savings ALONE covers all of our basic living expenses (basic food, utilities, property tax, home/auto insurance). As for home insurance, we secured our FL policy through State Farm and specifically found a home built after March 2022 (stricter hurricane building code), X/1-zone, no flood zone and do not back up to water. Compared to our IL policy, our FL policy went up $120 per month. Yet again, this increase was covered with our state income tax savings. Bugs, gators, critters, humidity, politics, hurricanes, etc are all givens -- one has to accept that before even considering FL. As for the influx of people, really don't notice it coming from a major metropolitan area. Yes, FL was the right choice for us and never looked back.

The weather as a pro is the thing I disagree with the most, I think it is almost just beat into everyones head so much they think its true. I lived in Florida for years. Now we moved up north. Where we live, we have about 3 months of very cold weather (January, February, and March.) April, November and December are hit and miss but genrally most days are light jacket and jean days. The rest of the year is amazing. In Florida, however, It was basically late April through Almost early November (6-7 months) of mostly oppressive heat, humidity, and yes when the sunshine that beats down non-stop hits your skin it makes those 88 degree days feel like 100. 3 months of cold weather here (where we often take one or two weeks vacation during that time to break up the winter by going to a warmer place) for us is MUCH better than 6+ months of heat where you are just running from an air conditioned building to an air conditioned car and then running back into an air conditioned building.
Not once did you mentioned where “up north” you moved too. This alone makes me doubt the truth of your reply. I can’t help but wonder if you’re just another shill for the Democrat Party which is very much afraid of losing electoral votes in the northern states that are mostly, and poorly, run by Democrats. I currently live on Long Island, New York ($$$) and I’ve looked at real estate in New England (mostly New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont) and I easily observed the much higher cost of their homes which doesn’t include the poor conditions that the homes are in requiring expensive renovation work on top of the sales price, and of course the higher utility costs. Financially there is no way you made out better moving “up north,” unless you moved to North or South Dakota, West Virginia or maybe some very rural area of Pennsylvania. North Carolina or Tennessee - financially and weather wise - what you saying might hold true. Rs

Your videos are so interesting, thorough and thought provoking. I find it surprising that ppl would dislike the political view of Desantis . Compared to greusom in the state of ca- Fl is very fortunate. This is a very controlled, poorly managed(financially) state. It's like being in a prison. About 70% of the yr is good weather, very little rain. Our HI tax $ disappear and it's very frustrating. There are about 7+measures for raising taxes that groups are fighting against. Including being taxed for every mile you drive. We live in our car and things are very far apart. Nobody wants this we are already paying exorbitant taxes. Can't say there's an issue with bugs. I've never seen a gator in my life. People are friendly. But the high price of homes is Out Of Reach for people in their thirties. Taxes on businesses is outrageous and businesses have left or are leaving because of it. I have a strong strong desire to move near family in Florida but the humidity is the bottom of the list whereas home insurance and bugs are at the top of the list. I'm really battling with it. But this state and many things about it had become such a turn-off that there's no reason to stay anymore. beach is theeee pull. Thanks so much for all your videos.

I think stages of life have to be taken in to consideration, well as long term interests, resources needed to live in the either areas in Florida…Miami, Tampa and Orlando are very different… Most states have a “city” / “metro” area, is a matter of finding a good place where your long term are

I’m a full grown adult and mom always told me that oh it’s to far from Michigan even though I’m hoping that someday I’ll be buying a house there either in Sebastian Florida or Tampa area I agree on everything you said speaking about living in the Western Hemisphere it sucks a lot Florida and Japanese tropical style pop music has inspired me some
Your videos are so interesting, thorough and thought provoking.
Than you so much also for your input!
I am Glad to be back in florida.i went back up north for way to long
Summer in Florida is like going into the gates of Hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the summer heat :)
Live in south Fl , love the beach !! we go very often , beautiful beaches , but cost of living here is insane !! Very expensive !!! No good jobs, salaries are very very low !! No big corporations here , I’m an RN and we are underpaid , Fl hd changed a lot in the past 5 years, here people live 10 in a house so they can afford to pay rent, I will relocate soon, and to buy a house here no thank you
Will you relocate within FL or leave the state altogether?
@@katrinstake we are leaving the state , I rather have more stability in another state and come here often to see the family and enjoy the beach , I’m an RN , here we are underpaid
Only way is to buy inland....avoid any flood plains...cash out a house...go naked on insurance..roll the dice....
never a good idea not to have insurance
😁😁😁😁 Naked means Raped sooner or later.I'm maxed out on Ins as in Lots..HaH😁😁
@@katrinstake ...good point..however , the actuarial tables are off the chart...premiums can't be close to 10% total value...basically buying the house twice in10 yrs...I have the ability to reconstruct if needed...most don't have that option.....I don't think inland premium spikes should help pay hurricane zone rebuilds
Why you never talk about the tolls? I received a bill in the mail from passing through. I never seen any toll signs.
Given some of the other major increasing costs, the toll costs are so far down on the list. Sorry.
@katrinfromyoutube my daughter in law is a real estate agent and pay 4 to 500 dollars a month on the toll roads but there is no state income tax...yeah ok. .there is no free lunch you pay it one way or another.....traffic is utter hell and depressing yeah there are nice places but u have to drive and have money....I don't know how young people afford it....some work 2 to 3 jobs ...in Central Florida there is nothing worth looking at under 400 grand then ur in a bidding war with an out of state buyer...it's not all party party and party u have to have a good paying job to live here ..all of these videos rarely mention work...I've been living here 50 years I have my house fixed up like a resort with a big screened in pool...we enjoy life while we listen to the sirens and traffic fatalities ...we only drive around our neighborhood and don't bother with the rat race...we blessed to be airline retirees so we can jump on a plane and go to a place less crowded less expensive and enjoy ourselves before head back to "heaven"...in Orlando us locals say there is no hell only Orlando...
My daughter and her family are building a home on a lake in Florida. Will see if they can handle it and yes there are alligators in that lake.
I’ve been in Florida since 2017 and still never saw ONE alligator. Wondering where people are finding all of these alligators.
Lakes mainly. I see them almost daily :).
The only time I seen one was in Weston Everglades at the zoo😂
After Hurricane Irma in 2017 with our pool cage ripped to shreds we had a HUGE alligator sitting a few feet from our pool cage opening. They live in the many retention ponds in communities. They also have been known to go into lanais, jump into pools and into open garages in SWFL near Fort Myers and Naples.
I think stages of life have to be taken in to consideration, well as long term interests, resources needed to live in the either areas in Florida…Miami, Tampa and Orlando are very different…
Most states have a “city” / “metro” area, is a matter of finding a good place where your long term are
What site are you using for that demographic data/info? Thanks!
There is no change of seasons, it's hot and humid all year long.
Question from someone who does not live in the US: do you have to pay home insurance? What does it cover? Mostly here in EU nobody pays home insurance so its quite odd
43 degrees tonight, frost on my windows Central Florida. Been here a while, that's cold. Great outdoors, very little for kids to do, and the people are getting bad, because they come from all over. Drivers are impatient, 80 in a 55 is normal, and you better keep up. No one goes to Disney any more. no lines that's a good thing. Tampa zoo is a lot better. Housing don't come here, if your looking to rent unless you have 2000. a month. And houses are around 350.000 to 700.000 for a mediocre house. Don't come here broke, you'll just go home anyway. And it's our legislature, not Ron. he gets the blame, but they make the laws. Just like your state......If you come here, watch your dogs, or they will be lunch. A gator can outrun your dog in short distances....Maybe you shouldn't come here for a hurricane, we don't even want to be here for a hurricane, what is she talking about?
It's not laid back at all? Living in Las Vegas is! To the point of being Boring. South Florida is stressful AF!!🤨 But I'm still going back..
Which state u think is better
Florida,Texas ,California or North Carolina and why
I only ever lived in California and Florida. In terms of overall quality of live, between those two, California is better by a long shot.
Two days to make this right.
Thursday and Saturday.
Then I'm leaving.
No cell phones.
Only cash.
I'm outta here.
I gotta a rich lawyer
buddy who will protect me.
You killed someone?
$5000 for insurance?? That’s totally shocking unless you have maybe a $3 million dollar home.
We own a 1400 sq ft rental in southgate Sarasota, got quoted $6200 for insurance.
Because of the taxes, insurance and many other taxes it is to high and people are leaving.
Any place you go is too high
Is it hard to get jobs in FL and what do thay pay
We’ve lived in Daytona for six years and love it.
But how come none of these lists include the mostly pro-gun stance here? And now, we have almost but not quite constitutional carry.
That’s one of the things I love about being here.
It’s a HUGE plus that too many overlook.
👍🏼
Beautiful beaches full of sharks
👍
anyone from Hawaii ?
she thinks NPR is right down the middle....hilarious!!
I'm going to guess that you are a Pisces.
No no no there’s nothing but snakes and Gators here the sand is hot as hell and the skeeters will carry off small Yankees. No more swamp to fill in to build on. Oh damm hurricanes!!!! The last native to leave Miami bring the flag please.
Time to move! Don’t even think of moving to Florida if you’re a Liberal
We have the first amendment. While you're free to say that, anyone with opinions different from yours is free to move to the same state you reside in.
Florida is not for me. Because they get hurricanes and they have a lot of bugs they're.
I think it’s easier and cheaper now to just rent. When u get tired of it, just leave.
Not so sure about that with mortgage interest rates dropping.
@@katrinstake I guess I’m referring to all the associated costs: insurance, condo fees, repairs, flooded homes, etc. Sometimes it doesn’t seem worth it…
Fact. FL does NOT have the largest coastline in the US. That would be Alaska, by far. Get your facts straight.
Alaska actually has more coastline than the entire country in the lower 48. Get your facts before saying something stupid.
No snow in Florida
Florida is sinking and affecting home insurance prices everywhere...😮
