    For several hours after a walk in the park my pug had been constantly reverse sneezing. After reaching the conclusion it wasn’t related to heat exhaustion I tried this method and my dog ended up ‘normal’ sneezing a large blade of grass out his nose!! Thank you so so much for making this video!! You’ve saved him from what could have been a much nastier problem

    Yes, my beagle would have these episodes when we used a regular collar. He'd get excited in cool weather, then pull on leash and he'd up with the snorting sound. We ended up switching him to a harness. He prevented the hyperventilating/reverse sneezing 90%. The 10% was due to him sniffing close to the ground and probably inhaled something that irritated him.

    My little girl Trixie (chihuahua) done this when she was still alive. I forgot where I learned to cover her nostrils, but it does work! In fact when Trixie started having an episode she would come running to me because she knew that I could help her.
    Now I have another chihuahua (Lola). She has started doing it here recently. Her episodes seem to be a lot worse than Trixie's. She also seems to get more stressed and/or scared during hers. I don't think that she has caught on that I'm trying to help her...

    I have a French Bulldog her name is Niecy, as I got her from my Niece that had a litter.
    When we had her spayed our vet suggested that she could clip the flaps in her nose to make it easier for Niecy to breathe.
    She’s 2 years old now and the first time she reversed sneezed it scared me as I thought she was having some kind of seizure! I comforted her and she came out of it! The older she’s gotten the less frequent the reverse sneezing has gotten!
    I found that when she gets into her reverse sneezing jag,if I push down on her nose with my finger she comes out of it quicker!

    I have a Frenchie (Rocky) and this happened last night while we were watching Bear Grills. At first I thought he just didn't like Bear Grills and this was his way of telling me... and then I got alarmed, ran down the stairs to open the front door, unlock the gate, move the bikes, get the car out, realised I still had my boxers on and also forgot my dog upstairs while I jumped in the car actually wanting to go to the animal hospital. Just glad it's not something serious. Today he is running around acting crazy as always.😁❤️

    Thanks for this information. We haves a 5 yr old Miniature Labradoodle that has done this since he was a puppy and have never been able to diagnose it. We have discovered that if we gently pat him on his back that it helps to stop the spasms. Everything you described is what sets it off, such as eating, excitement and sometimes pulling on his leash. We have worried that someday he would have a stroke or something. This makes me feel a lot better about this.

      Yes there are a few methods...sometimes you need to try a few! Basically whatever makes them swallow generally works!

    My older male Maltese dog (he was a stray so I don't know how old he is), and he started this frequently lately. Today he's had 2 episodes of it, it always happens when I bring him back inside from running around outside. It lasts for about a minute 30 seconds. I recorded a video of it because I thought I was about to need to rush him to the vet. Thank you, if he continues to do this I'll get him checked out.

      Hi RP LOL
      Yes it's usually related to a change in moisture in the air when you see it as you describe.

    Great informative video! I took my dog to the vet who couldn’t find anything wrong but gave me an rx for coughing. I gave him one pill and stopped as it didn’t help at all. I’ve looked at videos of other dogs reverse sneezing but it wasn’t like my little dog’s sneezing. But he has a short snout and it sounds/looks exactly like Mordecai (sp?) in your video. Thank you very much for your extremely helpful video!

      We're so glad you found this useful! If your dog is a brachycephalic breed you might want to investigate if he has other signs of airway issues. All the best.

    My rat terrier had this happen in the middle of the night after barking at a severe lightning/thunder storm. I thought “This is it. She’s going to choke to death.” She initially tried to throw up but didn’t. She slept the rest of the night with it happening one more time multiple snorts. Then in the morning but hasn’t had it happen in hours now. She’s playing, barking, seems normal otherwise. I’ll try the finger in the mouth if it happens again. Thank you so much for this video as we’re 2,000 miles away from home traveling and our vet. 👍🏻

    My Teacup Chihuahua does this a lot.. More so if he goes near the bed of my Pit bull.. or if he is super excited.. I just got off the phone with my vet and she told me it is very common in the breed of little dogs.

    After researching I come across this video and I think my Maltese Shih Tzu, may just suffer from this. It’s been happening on and off for a long time.the first few times I’ll admit... sent me into panic mode and he appeared distressed and scared, then after going through this a few times I discovered that during an episode if I was calm, sat with him and rubbed/massaged under his neck and spoke calmly he coped much better. These were not happening enough or that regular that if we were at the vet I would think about mentioning it. I honestly had just put it down to his old age ( now 84 in human years) he had an episode about 15 mins ago and this time I grabbed my camera and filmed him in action. I have an appointment tomorrow with our vet for his arthritis injection and I’ll be sure to mention this also just to be safe but I do feel much more at ease after seeing this video. So thank you :)

      I have a mix Mini Schnauzer and Maltese, and it sounds like a loud reverse gasping for air. It was pretty terrifying the first time it happened.. We hardly hear it, don't know if its more frequent because sometimes we're not home for a long while.
      I think He throws up a little in his mouth and then swallows it back..
      I feel so bad when i see it happening.

    My Frenchie Bear reverse sneezes a lot. Lately he has been “coughing” up mucus/phlegm and sometimes food after a reverse sneeze.. And it can happen multiple times in a day. I know this could be allergies as the seasons are changing. Would Benedryl help to settle it down?

    • @YourVetOnline
      @YourVetOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Connie
      Thanks for your question. Benadryl could possibly work, however studies show that anti-histamines are only effective in about 20% of dogs. If it doesn't work, you may need to investigate other medications for allergies.

    I have a Pekingese/Chihuahua mix, she's almost 7 years old, and I can tell her reverse sneezing still makes her so nervous! She doesn't have a totally flat face like a purebred Pekingese, but she still has a very short snout.

    That makes me feel a little better. I have had 8 total rottweilers in my life, I currently have 4 but have never experienced this except with my baby girl tator tot that I kept from our litter. I had to do cpr to get her breathing when born, then bottle fed since she was so little. At 3 weeks she had JUST reached 1.5lbs. Well now she's almost 11 months and over 90lbs. She just started this and yes freaking out doesn't even come close. I just knew she was gasping for breath. It was few and far between but she woke us up last nt and I've intervened a few times today...do you have many rottweilers do this? My vet told me I could give her 3 benadryl if it gets worse...I'd just die if it was something else.

    Hi! Thank you so much for this. I was super worried. My dog is a stray and she was sleeping and then started to reverse sneeze. I realized it happened after I put on lavendar essencial oil. Could you explain if maybe my dog was allergic and that was the reason?

    • @YourVetOnline
      @YourVetOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steph, if the signs in your boy are unusual and continue it would be worth a check. Realise that your vet will need to anaesthetise - they need to check for foreign bodies and flush the nose etc.

I have gone into the vet offices before and they gave her antibiotics. the antibiotics didn't really work. do you happen to know of what might cause this?

    Is a collapsed trachea the same thing as a reverse sneeze? My vet was saying my yorkie has a minor collapsed trachea and he makes the same noises maybe 1-2 times a month as your dog.
    Also, I am planning on permanently moving from USA to Thailand in a few months. It’s Going to be around 26+ hours in total for all flights combined to get there. Would you be against any dog that even had a minor collapsed trachea/reverse sneeze issue from going on such a move?

    I’m wondering if dogs with reverse sneezing would vomit like once a day? Is there a chance if the dog keeps vomiting because of reverse sneezing? Or is it likely to be caused by other reasons? I am not sure because my dog had ear infection treated a few months ago but when I checked recently the ear seems to be pinkish but with a bit of bright gray color mixed..so just curious what the cause is..
    Thank you!

    • @YourVetOnline
      @YourVetOnline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vomiting and reverse sneezing are unlikely to be related, but if you have a brachycephalic breed then they may have other issues such as a hiatel hernia. Vomiting daily is not normal. Please discuss with your vet or our online vets at yourvetonline.com
