I remember playing on official servers before they added redwoods. Before they converted that piece of the map, they actually had a small update where they bordered that whole section. Warning people to move their base and tames before the update came out
I remember when Ragnarok was first released as an official map and was only half completed. There were spots where you could glitch through the world border and build on the unfinished part. Also, the super OP loot crates in Viking Bay and above the ice cave.
Volcano didn't exist as well. Was just a mountain with a crap ton of metal on top. And as someone else mentioned, bosses would summon onto the map rather than you go to a boss area. Resource gathering was WAY slower, I can't recall how many times they've bumped up the resource gathering rates, but they're at rates we would have considered OP way back when. LOL
For an ASE->ASA difference, you used to have to make a GPS to get coords. There was a compass which was pretty useless. You used to get crop plot BPs in WAY too many drops. LOL
When the slots in the fridge, smithy etcetera were only half the amount, meat stacked at 20 instead of 40 and gas was consumed a lot faster. When the default rates were 1X instead of 2X.
YES I tell that to people all the time they don’t understand OG official rates were 1x then when they started doing 2x they ending up making the official 2x.
I was 10 when this game was out in store in 2015, I remember going to TH-cam to watch every ARK youtuber I knew at that time! I still remember all of these things, to be honest, that UI really brings back a lot of memories!
Back in like 2015, whenever you killed a dino, the corpse would ascend to the heavens. It was especially frustrating when i spent a few minutes killing a bronto on a Raptor. Not to mention that all dinos were really viable before the dmg & hp squish, pteras with 4k hp and 1600% dmg.
I remember dino trains. Before cryopods. If you wanted to move your base across the map. You either carried what you could with quetz or argy. Used a raft or had one dino follow another dino in a dino train.
the island was designed for not using cyropods. Even ASA where they narrowed entrances to caves to force you to use lesser dinos so as to not to be able to cheese farm it. cryopods needs a map that is designed for it. With them there is zero risk as no need to fly, raft, or walk anything so why waste money on servers serving the island AIs when people avoid interacting with the AIs?
@@yarnevk cryopods are necessary for the stability of servers. I am not even sure why you are defending not using cryopods.... i just said before cryopods there were dino trains. Maybe WC just needs to make better choices.
Dino trains returned at the beginning of ASA. Both fun and frustrating as there was now even more trees, rocks & other decoration for your dinos to get stuck on.
The redwoods will always have me a little salty. In singleplayer on 1x I biult a giant base by the water."south of the swamp cave" one day i logged in my whole base and fences were messed up. All uneven. Never played on that map again went right to the center and started over
Yeah I had a base in the OG volcano on single player before it had the tek cave and I logged on one day to find it was completely gone so I feel your pain. 😭
I only had like half my stuff there. It was when I was still new to the game so I didn’t really know what I was doing but it really confused me since I was still new to the game back then. I think I mainly used that base as like metal farming area so I had all my forges there.
A few classic bugs from the early days: - Floppy trees; smaller palm trees would flap about in the breeze at a certain point - Wild creatures wouldn't look damaged until they died - Rexes could fit through small gates as they only had structure collision in their legs - Lava in the lava cave acted as water and you could put irrigation pipes in it - Dinos would take FOREVER to lay eggs. It was almost impossible to get kibble. - Flyers couldn't land when being ridden so you had to jump off and whistle stop and hope they landed themselves in a good position. - When ridden and not moving Argentavis would just t-pose - Sharks could be found inland in the rivers
I remember when i started playing Ark in 2015 the entire map was plastered with foundations. ^^ There were huge foundation "forests", All the clans were putting foundations in spots that they may or may not use later on. I think they did not despawn back then. It was insane.
I remember the game before flyers could attack on ground, and before flyer speed leveling got turned off (which later became an option to turn on). The amount of times I got attacked by bugs while getting stam had killed so many of my PTs.
A few things I remember: 1. The localized rain bug where, for some reason, it would only rain in one, really small spot. 2. There was no stone tier. That was added later after the players requested it since it didn't make much sense to go from wood to metal 3. Originally, the game was going to be online PvP only. They added PvE and single player after the players requested it 4. Procedurally generated maps. It was a neat idea, but they abandoned it. I tried using it a few times way back when, but never really touched it once all the DLCs came out.
Corpse finder never existed. I remember never having to farm fiber because of how many plants I’d pick up trying to find my bag. What about speed on flyers? Or turrets on platform Dinos 😂
thought you wouldve mentioned how you had to click the structure every time you wanted to place one of it instead of it constantly being refreshed into your hand like how it is now, but you brought up the pick up timer and i got hit so hard with nostalgia
yep remember all this, was then before kibble and mating was even a thing. i remember the first Christmas event when the whole island got covered in snow. when the bosses came they only spawned in the Ob platform. i remember i hid in the bushes and sniped brood mother with a long neck while others fought tooth and nail with there dinos on the ob.

If you want to play at original ark rates in SP set your XP gain to 0.125x because SP has yet another 2x boost! On old official rates (I think the last official rates before they shut the servers were old 2x) Egg farms for all the different kibbles because egg laying rate was so low, 12 scorpions for rex taming, 8 of these, 6 of those and then the massive bases all over the tiny island map that you needed to keep them all in, combined with the really poor server performance, meant that folk suddenly found themselves stuck in other peoples houses that they couldn't see and because speed wasn't capped, people flying everywhere trying to load up two thirds of the map at once caused everything to break down for everyone and when the lag starts to settle and things load in you realise that your new Baryonyx which took a week to grow and you are stuck under a platform that someone placed for no reason other than to take up already minimal space and you're both being eaten by an alpha raptor and you had only switched to Baryonyx because the kaprosuchus bug where they totally broke raptors and got them stuck in the ground didn't get fixed for years. Fun times.
Do you remember Quetz airborne taming boxes? That's when someone who already had a Q would build a box trap on their Quetz and then you could trap a wild one in it to knock it out. It would usually pass out on the platform. This was when Quetzes would regain stam while airborne if you dismounted. I remember on official borrowing someone's quetz to tame my own this way and floating in the air for 6 hours taming it. There was even a point I ran out of water and had to have someone airdrop a canteen for me. haha. Great memories. All the things that made me love the game back in the day.
Getting dimetrodons and gallinimus for kibble was torture they woke up in 2 minjtos and ate like 100 narcotics but once you had them you could finally get a decent beaver

I miss old stuff
Fun fact, before the TLC the mammoth was the only creature in Ark to actually have a butthole. I have the screenshots to prove it. Have a nice day.
All of the old stuff are what we have for mobile. Except for the TLCs. Those have been fixed a long time ago. Everything else is still the same.
