One of our favorite summits in the Pacific Northwest! You can do this climb in one day or overnight on a backpacking trip. Links to the permit info are in the TH-cam description. The Three Sisters Wilderness is only 30 minutes from Bend, Oregon! We are back in Bend, again! 😜See a trend? We could see ourselves living in this area one day. Let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Cody!! It was a great hike and the views at the top are some of the best in Oregon. We hope to summit St Helens again so we can make a vlog. Stay tuned!
Awe, thank you! Excited to have you all follow along. We used to live in Texas (Dallas and Austin areas) moved out to Oregon 5 years ago. South sisters is beautiful and a nice spot in the Summer. Look forward to following your adventures too! ☺️🏔🌏
It was an insanely beautiful one and such a clear day where we could see so many peaks to the north. A tough and long hike but worth it. Thanks for watching ☺️
South Sister was a strenuous hike for sure! The heat did not help at all! Our dog did so well for her first mountain summit. Definitely recommend this one if you’re ever in Bend/Central Oregon area. Thanks for checking our video out 😉
Dear lord. Between a place literally called "Devil's Lake," mosquitos, heat, and what looks like the real-life cliffs of Mount Doom - this looked like quite a challenging hike! You mentioned going a little slow because of all the breaks, but I imagine I would take about a day to get up to the top if I made it at all before keeling over!
“Real life cliffs of Mount Doom” 🤣🤣 The name South Sister does not match. Haha It was definitely a hot day which made for tough conditions on the way down. Especially for our pup, Gracie. The main reason we started around 4ish am. The struggle is real with early starts. The exhaustion and challenges are always worth it 😆 You would do just fine, Mark! Welcome to come join us sometime ☺️
Thanks! We summited South Sister in July just after 4th of July ☺️ It can get quite hot around that time, so we recommend starting before sunrise. The first hour ish is in tree line so you won’t see much any way. Good luck!
When we climbed it a few years ago we didn't need permits. A Central Cascades permit is now needed between June 15 and October 15. You can book either a day use or an overnight permit. It depends on what kind of trip you are taking. Here is the permit information and when permit application and release dates are: www.fs.usda.gov/detail/willamette/passes-permits/recreation/?cid=fseprd688355 Also, this website includes links to book either overnight or day use. I've linked them below too. You only need one permit. Hope that helps! Three Sisters Day Use Permits www.recreation.gov/ticket/300009/ticket/10088687 Central Cascades Wilderness Overnight permits. You will need to select the Devil's Lake/Wickiup (South Sister) zone: www.recreation.gov/permits/4675311
We summited the weekend after July 4th so a bit earlier in the season. It was super hot that year and minimal snow just a few patches. How was it in August?
@@HelenandTimTravel Yeah that 4th of July weekend was right after the heatwave, I remember well! The mountain had nearly no snow on it in August. Seeing the crater you guys walked across was mind blowing because what we saw was a slushy muddy crater! It was wild.
@@TheDonBoston that was also the year of the really bad fires 😕 The contrast certainly crazy with the fast melt that took place. We brought our ice axes thinking we may need them but it was so hot the week right before we climbed. We are crossing our fingers we don’t have a bad fire season. Good luck on your summit! Hope you have a nice time. Let us know how it goes 😀

Amazing that you can see all the way to Mount St. Helens from the top! And that lake is absolutely gorgeous. Keep up the great content!

This trail looks challenging but, if your dog can do it, we can do it! 😆

Loved this video. Please tell me which month you hiked. My daughter lives in Bend and I'd love to do this.

Do you remember exactly what permits you needed to climb south sister? The internet says you need multiple and it's confusing

What time of year did you guys do it? I did it last year in August, but I'd like to do it earlier in the season next time!
