It's not needed per se but if you don't then you'll be limited to the unencrypted traffic only which is pretty much useless nowadays.

@@PaloAltoNetworksLiveCommunity I am not able to view Data Patterns in Custom Objects and also no Data Filtering profile in Security Profiles. What could be the reason. I have all the licenses Adv. URL filtering, Adv. Threat prevention, DLP, DNS security, WIldfire.
