the Rule of St. Benedict.. contemplate God in all things. It begets gratitude. Be still and know the God is God. Letting go of the noise within and without centers the spirit and affirms one to know the true purpose of life: Loving kindness in community.

It is wonderful to hear a christian talking about meditation. If this had been the core of Christian thought over the centuries, instead of fighting infidel populations and insisting on dogmas sometimes under pain of incarceration and torture, perhaps fewer people would have stopped going to church. See "Christian violence," Wikipedia. The person who commented "meditation mey be the prayer of the heart but it is not the prayer that god desires" apparently knows what God wants (even though he doesn't seem to know how to spell the word "may"). The hubris of Christianity is endless. The sad thing is that hard-line Christians are so unconscious of it.

Thank you for the interesting and informative talk on Christian meditation which seems much like most all meditative practices and the bonus is that you have added your own wonderful dimension and personality here.

At what rate should the word be said( silently in your head) and should it align with the breath or not? Many thanks

I wanted to respond to this comment but I really have no idea how to go about doing it. Well, here goes...You are saying that God does not want a prayer from our hearts? Being omnipresent and all you would think God would hear our prayers even if we do not voice them. To be honest I think what you mean to say is that Meditation is not the prayer the Church teaches. Otherwise, are you saying we are tools for acting out God's will? Why cant we work in tandem with divinity? I just don't understand.

Heck no! I don't listen to *anything* that a priest says if he can't even dress properly. He isn't talking about true meditation anyway. True meditation is prayer to God. There is no such thing as secular meditation. Everything is either God or Satan. And guess who wins?
