Was in the same situation for Stenhouse. Went to Dega and then Daytona just to see him win in 2017, and then this year I was supposed to go to the Daytona 500, but then I couldn’t. I would’ve been to all of his wins though if that was the case.
I think this video is about the most fair I’ve ever seen anyone be to Austin Dillon and his career. Yes he’s definitely lucked into all his wins and been at the right place at the right time, but he still is a decent driver that deserves to be in the cup series shown by his resume in the lower ranks and shown with his 2020 playoff run.
i would like to agree. yeah hes no kyle larson or joey logano or chase elliot but he still got those wins and i respect that. i enjoy seeing him out from a true underdog. especially with Busch at RCR i really wanna see how Dillons gonna perform
How he won what he has isn’t really the point. The point is he doesn’t deliver much. He hasn’t just done less with more (and semi-bankrupted RCR), he’s done so little he’s irrelevant yet long carried himself as something worth a damn. He’ll never be worth a damn A few weeks back Kyle Busch was asked about the fact his presence hasn’t led to improvement by Dillon. Seriously there’s nothing in Dillon that can be improved
Small correction and I think you know this too. The 2018 All Star Race wasn't the first time NASCAR used the restrictor plates at a Non-superspeedway. 2000, New Hampshire. 2 drivers got killed and NASCAR had to do something. So that's what they did. They did SOMETHING
And now Austin Dillon's won it at Richmond, which means he's going to make a hasty playoff exit in the first round but the weirdest part to me is how AUSTIN DILLON of all people got a win before his teammate, Kyle Busch. The INTIMIDILLON strikes again.
You mean the one where he was pushed by his teammate the entire time after the crash and wrecked Cindric? Not to mention that Reddick was in the middle a contract dispute, and he probably didn’t wanna make his car owner mad

Mickey Mouse Moment #6: He Dumped Joey Logano AND Denny Hamlin On The Last Lap At Richmond To Win. Better Yet, The Entire Finish Was The Mickeyest Mouse I’ve Ever Seen
I unironically work for a nascar themed ROBLOX game as a staff member, and the amount of times Dillon came up during preseason discussions about who might have a breakout year was insane.
Everyone says Fuel mileage wins are Mickey wins and I’ll keep arguing against that till the day the sport dies. It’s a combination of Crew Chief strategy and driver fuel knowledge that wins those races. The rest of Dillion’s wins though, certified Mickey moments
With how Dillon's spotter told him to wreck Hamlin, it reminded me. Wasn't there another driver whose spotter did that, but the driver in question didn't go through with it? Was it Truex's spotter, or at least one of his former ones?
What you said about the 47 car in your “Haters Guide to NASCAR 2023” is true here. When Austin Dillon has speed, he doesn’t have finishes. When he has a good finish, he usually doesn’t have speed.
Not a huge Dillon fan but I dont know how many times I've seen Dillon running Top 5-10 all race then DNF. I mean him and Busch looked dominant at Daytona then he got spun into the big one.
Since I’ve only heard it thrown out about Elliott I assumed it was when a governing body gives a fan favorite an unfair advantage, like how Mickey Mouse is propped up by Disney and has had all charm or personality washed out of him over the years.
I think this whole “Mickey Mouse” stuff is unfair. Sports, and all of life, is heavily split of skill and luck. The X Factor is always something to watch out for. He earned those wins fair and square. Just because he wasn’t the perfect athlete doesn’t mean he’s a Mickey Mouse. You shouldn’t disparage a guy because he’s running his granddad’s legendary numbers and not winning like the past.
I still think Justin Haley is the closest thing we have to a Mickey Mouse. How many times did he win bc the top 2 cars wrecked each other. And let's not forget his cup 'win', where a premature one-to-go and an assist from Zeus gave him the checkered flag. I have nothing against him, but his successes seem to be mostly luck, while the times he actually runs well ending in bad luck.

The 2018 Daytona 500 was ALSO 17 years to the day of Dale's death. It was also the last Nascar race I've been to in person. Went to Darlington after that, but not for the race because it had been raining and the track worker told everyone that the race had been postponed. Stupidly, it finished that night, so my dad and I were robbed out of the already-bought tickets. Still, that makes it ineligible for my last Nascar race, so to the 2018 Daytona 500 that award goes.

2 weeks ago, at the Chicago Street Course, Austin Dillon was running in the lead or near it, and wouldn't you know it. He hits the wall and ends his race.

I have to say, this is actually pretty true. I think his Coca Cola 600 win and his Texas win were heavily based on strategy. But I’m finally going to let it loose. Dillon’s Daytona 500 and coke 400 win were micky.
am i the only one coming back after yesterday's COTA race thats gonna say that Austin Dillon had a really good day going for himself, just to get ruined? Like he was running top 15-top 5 almost all race, and then his shots at a win get thrown in the garbage. Hoping to see him win soon!
He wasn't super fast but he was racing smart, honestly looked like he was gonna score a Top 5 since he was keeping pace with everyone but Reddick and Byron. But, alas, Turn 1 happened.
This aged like fine wine
To be honest, I've never understood why so many people consider winning on fuel mileage a Mickey Mouse win. It's really hard to do.
Right?
Probably because it's the crew chief doing the math and calling the shots, not the driver
