This is a homebrew subclass that aims to bring a mounted combat option to the Paladins, upgrading from standard mounts to a slow, flying option at level 7, and a FAST flying option at level 15! Feedback is always appreciated, but please try it out first before giving feedback!

@@notesmaker204 i'm more of a DM Content Maker rather than Player Content Maker, so my forte is creatures, traps, itens (last time i checked, i have about 631 creatures, 563 magic Itens, 57 Traps, and 6 Adventure Modules that can also work as encounters, so this number is probably bigger by now)
For player content i have the 25 Subclasses mentioned, plus 5 on the making, 40+ Races, 5 or 6 new Subraces 3 Spells (i suck at spells), 7 Feats, a new Fighting Style, and 4 classes being rewritten (3 classes i made on Dandwiki long ago but they sucked so i might turn them into subclasses, and Monk with some well know fixes)

Most stuff is pretty simple like a potion of healing, but sike! you're drinking poison kind of stuff.
I am kinda working on four subclasses. So, yeah thanks for sharing. It made me feel better.

I have some neat things, like the Warlock Subclass that changes the spellcasting to strength due to it being a warrior spirit who gives more magic the stronger you are, or a puzzle creature that make Religion a great skill, or some armor that can reduce a fixed value of fire damage but you take more cold damage at a fixed value, and a Perception feat that allows you to get 5 feet Truesight for some time as a reaction when you get hit by something you can't see, or the musical trap that can kill you by thunder damage
I did end up using some, as i give it to my players as character options, and the creatures ofc. But well, making homebrew is so fun that i ended up doing a lot more than expected lol

i'd like to make some things but literally all my game masters said that its too risky...
for example we have made a capitalistic cruel city system
And i wanted to create a class made to mechanise actions such as
tax
invest
frauds
etc.
like a cantrip that have more dmg the more you use it on one enemy as a "investment" of some kind
also i thought about a skill that enables you to see someone's desires to enable yourself to sell stuff more efficiently
Or a skills that enables seeing how rich someone is
also i thought about mechanizing gold
For example you have advantage on the spell against enemies with more money than you
Or
You can enchant a penny to hear through it, or just mark it to track it for miles
the whole class could be remade to a bunch of subclasses
like
warlock with a patron of greed
Priest of the God of Social service from a cult that revolves around charities
it could be manifested through giving and recieveing
But i have no idea how to balance things
is there a way to calculate it?

drakewarden is still cool, now you just are able to be a deus vulting dragon rider ala Dark Souls as well as an option
I've been playing it the last two days and we are level 7. I really enjoy it and don't feel it's unbalanced. The mobility helps me get where my defense and healing is needed. Well done.
God I wish we had these in dndbeyond!

I do appreciate a paladin subclass that's all about mounted combat. The dragon mount part is the icing on the cake.

pretty well balanced subclass. I've always wanted more ways to perform mounted combat without having to be a fighter. I'm gonna hit up my DM and see if this works. From what I read this looks good!

I want this so much. I’ve been a dragonborn Paladin in both my campaigns. I might just say that the dragon is a family member like a doting aunt and wreak havoc.
Wow, an actual Dragonrider subclass that sounds really cool without being utterly broken beyond belief.
The amount of adoration i have for this subclass has reached the same level of admiration i have for the Missile Wizard homebrew subclass
I love the flavor & functionality of the class. And it doesn't look broken powerful & not super weak.
Fun feature interactions
The second part of the draconic steed feature (the part that allows you to use movement of independent mounts), the aura, & the capstone can be used with other mounts (ancient dragon pet ;)). Also since the spells that summon the dragon mounts are not ritual spells, you do still have to use spell slots to someone (unlike phantom steed).
So just saw this today and while I haven't played it yet but after reading it I can say it's definitely gonna be my next character. Love paladins, love dragons and love this.
DAMN Y’ALL please at least download and play the thing before deciding whether you like it based on a 1 min summary bruh. I promise we balanced it! The dragon is a CR1 stat block, with adjusted stats, it’s on par with the other summons from Find Steed (and Find Greater Steed when you hit lvl15!)

This subclass aims to do three things:
1. Make mounted combat viable and not overcomplicated
2. Give you a dragon to ride, without destroying the game.
3. BE SUPER FUN TO PLAY!
I think it does them great! You can get some mounted combat going from level 3, pick up a slow flying CR 1 dragon at level 7, and upgrade to a full power dragon at level 15!
Recomended power tactic: If you take this to level 20, get your friend to shapechange into an Ancient White Dragon, and then ride them: they'll get the benefits of all your captstone dragon buffs!

This is actually really balanced I suggest everyone look at the subclass before commenting on it, it uses a wyrmling changed to large, so it's not like your overpowered, my only suggestion is to edit the dragon mount to be affect differently by find greater steed
My DM already grumbles about my Drake Warden Ranger, I ain’t even going to try and run this by him.
My DM allowed it, its weird yours wont allow Drakewarden as Ranger isnt super op

An Archer Paladin that could smite at range would be an awesome homebrew subclass.
If a Hexblade can do it, so should a Paladin.
just read the pdf and I love it, I think the best way to go is 1lv dip into hex for obvious reasons (but most of all to max out char) and a lance (which fits since it lacks the two-handed property). the only thing that i would change is the option to be able to choose what kind of dragon do we desire to summon in the same way in wich we can choose what can of creature we can summon with the find steed and find greater steed, it would give the players more versatility without making it too broken.
My friend has a character named Ceres who's playing this in our campaign. It's really cool!
As a follower of Tiamat I see this as an absolute win

There's the Drakewarden for Rangers but you can't fly on it until level 15 unless someone uses Enlarge/Reduce
I've been writing a new dragon themed campaign, this is seriously gonna come in handy!

Combo idea:
Scribe wizards can use their manifest mind feature to summon a spectral object that they can control. This object can pass through creatures, and you can cast spells through it using “it’s senses”. So, you could move the object into a creature, and because the object can “see” the water in their body, you could cast shape water to blood bend them like in avatar.
This reminds me so much of the paladin subclass introduced in Odyssey of the Dragonlords. Can’t remember it’s name but it’s incredibly similar iirc
Find steed only gets you a horse or animal similar to a horse. Find greater steed gives you a dire wolf / Griffiin. It doesn't give dragons, only a dm who's willing would allow a change like that to find greater steed. The spell is stupidly powerful because it's a mount that obeys what ever you demand not even having to speak on think within a mile of it, and when it dies you can just resummon the mount again. With a extra character that has its own movement and actions.
Also you don't need the that channel Divinity because your movement becomes the mounts movement basically it can do the dash action and you get 120 feet of movement. While also being able to perform your own actions and if you really wanted to, jump off and get half your movement extra. Having a polearm makes it really dumb because you can charge swing and return to safety without letting the enemy have a reaction and taking the feat polearm master and mounted combatant makes it hit that but harder.
Seems really promising, temp hp for mount is exactly what a mounted character needs.

This reminds me of a game I used to play as a little kid called DragonFable, very interesting game, would recommend.
My first thought was “add a level in warlock, it always goes great with paladin”.
Just picture standing on a dragon, cutting things out of the air from 120ft away with a reskinned eldritch blast.
Sounds like as if Eragon was a Paladin and not a Ranger/Fighter/Sorcerer multiclass.

Love the subclass, my dm approved, will play, it sounds op because dragons are made to give off that vibe, but this really is balanced imo
I don’t know why, the first that popped to mind was a cowboy paladin who’s goal in life is to ride every creature. *party encounters kraken* “cowbOY NO!”
Mount Paladin build has the nice benefit of slightly enlarging your Aura of Protection, which your mount benefits from as well.
I for one think Paladin is decently useful but I highly appreciate subclasses pushing suboptimal strategies to try something new with the class.
This came up as a suggested clip just after I recently finished rewatching She Ra and the Princesses of Power... Given Adora's brief disappointment that she didn't get a dragon to ride I can finally give her her dragon! (as She Ra is blatantly a paladin). 😍

@@theubiquitouspotato still, atleast subclasses should roughly have the same amount of power. it takes the fun out of the game for everybody else, if someone can just summon a CR 20 creature or something like that at lvl 20
@@lythrum42069 it could be cr 23 but it could be a cr 1. We don't know what age the dragon is.
@@lythrum42069 it won't be cr 20, I haven't read it yet (does he say what it's called) but my guess is it would be more like the drogons breath spell rather than actual dragons breath. Have you ever actually played level 20 there is no balance possible, they Chew through pit fiends like there goblins. Wizards no this that's why all the modules stop around 15. There's really not much you can't solve as a level 20 wizard with a bit of planning. I mean hasn't shorts got a video telling us how to become a gold dragon permanently?

The Dubclass looks good after reading it but you having a dragon that can deal 7d6 fire damage each turn no action from you required other then the spell to summon the dragon seems pretty strong although I guess it is 20th level I don't know it's in a wierd spot but definitely one of the better homebrewed pieces of content I've seen and trust me I've seen alot of garbage homebrew just feel free to ask me about them.

Now that's broken
The way this subclass designed is similar to how we made maps for Heroes of Might and Magic 3 when we were kids. "Ok so I start with a huge army and there are 10 Armageddon's Blades around my castle and I also have infinite resources!"

Not gonna lie, as much as I like this idea, I’m gonna talk to my dm about my changeling paladin to summon a giant spider for a mount since they were raised by drow.
And then they will drag people with webs and or a lasso
Finally you can marry dragons
Be a fae and ride a faedragon and you can play a shadow of the colossus or attack on titan even how to train your dragon themed adventure
So, you took the only cool subclass ranger's get, buffed it, and gave it to a paladin, an already ridiculously strong class?

This actually came out in September 2021, so it predates the Drakewarden!! That aside, this is a very different play style to the ranger dragon build, and is a mid-tier paladin in terms of power! Check it out! It’s free, give it a whirl and have fun!

Is this still available? Cannot find it anywhere. It is on the site but there is no actual free subclass there besides the wizard one.
I have a question about Master of the Mount is it intended that i can use it as often as i like, or should it be like the other paladin level 20 abilities that i can only use once per longrest. The subclass sounts like a lot of fun, was really looking for a cool mounted class other than the fighter one.

Honestly, it's not a bad homebrew subclass. My issue is that copper wyrmlings are significantly stronger than red wyrmlings for the level you get them at, at least ability-wise and less so stat-wise... for example, a lot more creatures resist or are immune to fire than do acid. Also, there seems to be no omission for the copper wyrmling's "slowing breath", which can be stupidly broken with that capstone ability-an effectively on-command _Slow_ spell directed at a 15-foot cone, after which your dragon can spew acid almost every turn, and then finish off its minute of free recharges with yet another slowing breath to hobble at least some of your enemies.
I would maybe use the red wyrmling's stat block on the 7th-level ability, and just a young copper dragon's stat block on the 15th (with moderately reduced breath weapon damage for both, and lessened health for the copper version).

Does the dragon move independently and attack independently?
I'd love to try it, but my DMs banned homebrew because of how much time it takes for them to approve their use from everyone in the campaign (which is quite extensive, it's not a single long story but a lot of one-shots)
I love it but I know too many DM's that won' t even allow Arokakkra
If the DM knows you well they will find ways.
Otherwise yeah cheese the game will be fun for some games but the headeages the dms will get is most times not worth esp cause they allready invested a huge amount of time.

I've ever patreoned, and now I want to say that, as a web developer (backend), I absolutely LOVE your store (from a UI/dev perspective). I put 2 free things in my cart and as I was going through checkout I was like "ugh, I'm gonna have to give a CC for $0?". But I DID NOT. Slick interface and great design, massive kudos to your dev team.
The sole exception: man, get RID of that damn popup. I'm super-glad you have a "don't show me this again", but god DAMN modals (blocking popups) are the figuratively worst thing to happen to the internet.
