Did you like this one take approach for a video? It saved me a lot of time editing on my computer on the one hand, but on the other hand it differed a lot from the usual video style. Let me know what you think! Also: What helps you to make balls more consistently?
Might work for a lot of your videos, we already know your professionalism so take some time off my friend, you do a lot for us. I, personally, would love to see your mistakes as well, both during actual play and explanations. Cheers and keep up they way you already do!
I put two balls blocking the pocket, just leaving enough room for a ball to get through. I try to shoot through them clean. Just one after another till it’s not fun. It’s helped me pot balls better than anything.
I have been playing for over 20 years and I can still learn from your videos. Sometimes it just helps to hear someone else say it and to see it in action. I am using your videos to help train my APA team how to think through their games. Thank you for all the time you have spent getting this information out for us to use!
Can't stress enough how much i had to work to align my bridge hand, eyes, cue, legss... with the line of the shot. Worked in the end. Nice lesson! Keep it up
There are many times when I miss a shot I find myself asking “did I hit too fat or too thin”. The answer when you ask that question is my eyes were not on my object ball. When our eyes are where they belong the feedback we get from them gives us the chance to improve our play. Thank you for the video.
This is simplistic .Simply priceless!. De clutter your head, repeat your stroke, and do it under pressure. How ? Line up straight then push the cue stick straight to and through the cue ball and continue pushing the cue straight down the line . That's all you need to think about. Under pressure ,invaluable . Simple . Loved it Sharivari
For me the main reason I miss shots is because I have a hard time clearing my head. If its just a practice game I don't really care so I shoot great. But as soon as its in a tournament or in league I psych myself out.
Hi Wes, after I got out of the military, I suffered from issues with anxiety that affected me in my matches. Performance anxiety can make it really hard to play as well as you know you can. It affects you physically and psychologically. Even if you’ve made a shot a thousand times, stress will make your muscles tighten involuntarily, impairing fine motor skill and making you miss shots more easily. Mentally, you might forget shot posture fundamentals like staying down after a shot, what English to use to play position, deciding your run out, or planning good defensive shots. To neutralize these effects, try taking 3-4 slow, deep breaths as part of your pre-shot routine. It regulates your heart rate and controls the production of stress hormone in your body which causes that jitteriness. Ignore any thoughts of missing your shot. Don’t even acknowledge them. Visualize the cue ball hitting the object ball and rolling it into the pocket. If you can keep a positive mental outlook and avoid thoughts that stress you out more, you’ll control the negative effects of adrenaline and cortisol on the body. You’ll improve focus and find yourself playing more consistent, successful matches. I hope this is helpful.
There are concentration drills on here have helped me!I've tried earbuds! It's all bout controlling your thoughts and not letting it mean more then it actually does !!just pool!!
Hi Sharivari. I will probably watch this many times in the months to come. A refresher lesson or reminder is always good for me from time to time. Good job, thank you.👍
Great tutorial…..my aim immediately skyrocketed. Straight shooting and understand the spinning concept was so educational and very clearly explained !!
Thanks for letting the viewers (me) know where to look last before hitting the shot. I find sometimes I focus on the object ball, other times at the cue ball. I wondered why I miss easy shots.
Just started this billiards journey. I've been looking at cue ball on the hit and not object ball so looking forward to trying these tips out. Thank you Sir!
The Ring Bells are Blessing for you buddy, to be so humble and your passion to help people understand and learn to play this beautiful Sport, God Bless you again!!
Thanks again for your good tips. What I don't understand is some days I am like in a zone and I see very well all the cut lines and after that I can be many games without playing well at all missing easy cut shots.
I’m going to be watching so many of these tutorials as I’m trying to improve my game. Thank you so much for these! They’re clean, easy to follow and insightful. 👏👏👏
For me, another cause of missed shots has to do with unintentionally moving my head slightly to the right or left as I go down on the shot. Depending on the body/shot position, I have found that I can get off my alignment between the head/cue/shot and this can affect how I see the ball. This is especially true for people like me who have one eye that is dominant and the other that is weak.
I'm still working on it! I have a very weak left eye, and I've noticed that when I am cutting the object ball to the left I need to move my head a bit to the left relative to the cue. When cutting to the right, I move a bit to the right. So far, that seems to be helping me.
Thank you sir just what I needed to get me started after 20 yrs absent! I started off backwards! Shooting rack after rack and getting frustrated now I got to practice, practice, practice before shooting racks! Very helpful thanks for taking time to offer this!
You are sooooooooooo good! I'm going to the pool hall today to utilize some of these ideas! I never thought of standing up first to line up the shot. Thanks!!!
Thank you very much. Your voice and spelling is very easy for a person like me that English is not his maternal language. You are a very good teacher of pool
This video was so helpful. Firstly the first 3 reasons were exactly what was happening...and the little drills in the end were helpful and about hitting over ball facts...geez I appreciate you
That explains whenever I made an adjustment while I am down in shot my shooting is compromised. Even my relative who plays billiards says that I should make a habit to aim while standing because he explained that your foundation of your aiming is in your body, not while shooting. Great video as always! Still hoping that I will have a table of my own. God Speed!
I think one of the key factors for missing shots also is that you try to hold the cue ball too much or try to place it where it can’t go if you make the object ball. Understanding the travel and speed is so important and makes your game super strong after you understand that in total. Looking the object ball or cue ball for last is a preference that you have to choose from. No right or wrong with that. John Higgins always watch the cue ball last and absolutely crushed everyone last week😄 He is just one of many examples👌🏻
Thank you Sharivari. Hopefully, next time you would like to explain about vision centre and dominant eye in correlating with our stance to avoid unintentionally side spin.
Looking at the OB upon striking the CB is the constantly repeated mantra...I have heard many people comparing it to when you're throwing something (like you say darts or a stone), but this comparison is not really logical, as with the darts/stone you don't need to look at it because you're already holding it in your hand, whereas in pool you must strike the CB in the exact planned spot with a narrow end of the cue, so I'd say it just doesn't make too much sense comparing these things. Anyway, even a lot of top pros (pool or snooker included) will tell you to do whatever feels comfortable. It definitely cannot be said that one or the other is better. Like in my case, at the beginning I started with focusing on the CB, than as I got better I moved to what everyone was saying - 'look at the OB', but when I had gone back to watching the CB on most shots, it made a big difference in my potting success. So I would just say do whatever feels natural and good for you. ;)
It's been a problem of mine.I was just barely missing shots and it was aggravating me.So one issue was that my elbow I didn't keep close to my body when shooting, second my follow through wasn't good.So I been adjusting with my follow through and see how important it is.Mean so many shots I missed I just missed.I am still working on my game and hope to have a better year this year.I play on a team and look to improve.Yhanks for the video and I will be watching for more..
I was tought to take a bottle (soda/beer). Lay the bottle on its side and smoothly stroke the tip of the stick in and out the mouth of the bottle. Create a "chew chew" train arm. From elbow through hand (think the arm on a locomotive that connects to the wheel), base your legs, lean on table, whatever creates a solid base. When stroking the stick into the bottle. Nothing moves on your body except your elbow.
Great tutorial thank you. When Replaying the shot I think it would helpful if replayed in slow motion so we can see your stroke, grip, and exactly where the cue ball hits the object ball and the angles the cue and object balls take at impact.
Cue stroke is very huge. Using a pop bottle on the cloth. Stroking the cue back and forth without touching the bottle while having the cue inside the bottle will help tremendously
I found out after sometime, that I was hitting the que ball slightly off center. It looked like center to my eyes, but it was not. I found this out doing a drill working on draw. I could never get the que to draw straight back. I adjusted my striking position on the que ball, now I am making all sorts of shots! :)
To compliment your point on not hitting straight/stroke- another reason may be because of shot timing and backstroke/pause. I had issues with this in my earlier days but grew more cognizant of it after some friendly advice. It lends to better your consistency and to keep in mind to "never rush your shot." If your stroke is straight and you can shoot with good spin, I challenge people to try experimenting one-stroking (just for a little bit); it will give you great insight on your timing, rhythm, and pacing.
Today I played for the first time in this year and I realise that my skills were improved and my cueball placement was better than my last game . Thanks Sharivari 👍🏻

I am new at shooting pool again. When I was a young man growing up I played often without technique. Where should I start now building my game? Could you recommend one of your links?
Thanks a lot for the explanation. Much appreciated :) Always miss this kind of shots. Your advises always help me to improve my game :) and even this video explains in details what should i not do and change my habits :)
@Sharivari - Andre - in the 2nd reason vid you used right hand English but object ball went to right and missed pocket. Shouldn’t that object ball have gone in opposite direction to what that cue ball was hit on?
When hitting hard with righ hand english, the cue ball deflects to the left. So you hit the cue ball too far on the left, therefore it goes to the right. When hitting really soft it's the other way around, because the cue ball might swerves and due to spin induced throw. Check my video "How to aim with side spin" for more information :)
Did you create the Diamond grid on that table your self? Did you purchase it? Have it specifically made? That is a genius idea to really dial in your banks and kicks! I’m curious. Please respond!! Thanks for your content it’s great dude!

Hi there,
Are aiming lines only available in the paid version as I can't seem to find them in the free version.
Thanks
@Sharivari - Andre - in the 2nd reason vid you used right hand English but object ball went to right and missed pocket. Shouldn’t that object ball have gone in opposite direction to what that cue ball was hit on?
When hitting hard with righ hand english, the cue ball deflects to the left. So you hit the cue ball too far on the left, therefore it goes to the right.
When hitting really soft it's the other way around, because the cue ball might swerves and due to spin induced throw.
Check my video "How to aim with side spin" for more information :)
thank you so much, that as very helpful..

Did you create the Diamond grid on that table your self? Did you purchase it? Have it specifically made? That is a genius idea to really dial in your banks and kicks!

So when you're shooting a shot, don't jam your cue left or right during your stroke? Just stroke the cue straight? Super great advice.
what does aiming a bit thicker mean? thank you, great video
Fuller / straighter / less cut.
