  • Review of United's longest 757/narrow body flight from Stockholm to Newark (8hrs 50min). This flight is the second longest 757 route in the world covering a distance of over 3900 nautical miles, being beaten by La Compagnie's route from Paris to New York (which is now served by an A321neo). I'll go over what to expect as well as other features on board including meals, seats, snacks, restrooms, entertainment, IFE, and overall experience. And of course, a little vlogging here and there!

    Lol the 757 "jumbo jet". Needs to be reminded that the 747's are sadly gone.

    Flew on 757s between Hamburg and Newark several times with Continental/United, always loved it, the 757 is my absolute favorite!

      Gotta love Continental and their old 757 routes. Glad they passed the torch United and the 757s are still hopping the pond 😄

    Gonna miss these ex-Continental 757-200’s when they retire. Clearly they are older and could use a bit of sprucing up the way Delta has. While it could be a bit more efficient (technology is four decades old) it’s still probably the best narrowbody model ever built. They are some of the most overpowered, yet safest aircraft in service.

    I am missing a 757 in my flight log, they’re kinda rare in Europe. Always liked the look of the plane, need to try and catch one of those remaining Condor 757s here.

    I love the flying pencil. It will be a very sad day when they are no longer in service. If Boeing can make a more fuel efficient 777x aircraft, why can't they do that with the 757?

    • @sondrejohansen48
      @sondrejohansen48 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the bigger issue with the 757 is that the aircraft structure and chassis is very old, and it is also not aerodynamically efficient compared to today’s aircraft. A new 757, that has the capability to compete with A321XLR will require the development of a new body and using many new composite and carbon fibre materials. Upon that adjustment to the new engines, all of which is literally a new aircraft at the end of the day.

    My favorite was the old battleship grey United 747. It was one of the first toy/model planes I had. Very nostalgic and a classy livery.

    • @andrewsaviation7792
      @andrewsaviation7792  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The battleship livery was definitely something special. It looked beautiful on all their wide body planes. Their rainbow livery with the orange, red, and blue stripes was really cool too in my opinion.

    The pilot had a sense of humor about it lol. I flew a continental 757 from EWR to Barcelona and back(from Madrid). It was fine, only thing is going to the bathroom is much easier on a 767, least the AC always worked. The takeoff is always awesome though. Wouldn’t be shocked if it was this exact plane I flew :P

    • @andrewsaviation7792
      @andrewsaviation7792  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's cool you got to fly a 757 from Barcelona. Definitely not the easiest flight in a narrow body haha. Planes like the 767 make it easier for the passengers to move around since you have to step over fewer people, and wide body takeoffs are the best. :)

    I never understand why people turn their noses up at single aisle aircraft to cross the Atlantic. I mean, what exactly are ya gonna do? Circuits of the aircraft to keep entertained? Relay? I first flew transatlantic on the 757 to Canada in 1995. I was and still is an amazing versatile aircraft. One that Boeing desperately needs to relaunch and pitch against the A321XLR. But hey, what do I know. Awesome video, no heirs and graces, just straight to the point.

    Just found your channel Andrew...it’s really informative! Thank you for uploading! Are you likely to take any more transatlantic flights? My brother and his first officer (my sister in law) frequently take this flight out to Heathrow since United dropped BHX a while ago....landing the 7.05 am and taking the return flight 24 hours later.... ya might wanna see if he and his wife are flying you next time! Happy flying! ✈️✈️✈️Greetings from the U.K 🇬🇧 😊x

    By the way,the distance between ARN and EWR is 3415 nm or 6324 km and probably is the longest ,because the one from CDG to JFK is only 3158 nm or 5849 km, also 8hrs and 50 min
    is extremely difficult to happen, you must have had headwinds over 100 knots, which is very unlikely for summer,any way its a good trip report,thanks

      That's quite a long flight in a narrow-body, but as a passenger, I would say yes. Direct service is decently convenient and the 757 is equipped with IFE entertainment screens (assuming an ex-CO aircraft is operating the route). They're much better than United's 737s in comparison.

      @andrewsaviation7792  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Taylor w, I'm not too sure of the exact reason, but a lot of passengers on this flight had to go through secondary screening, I'd say about 1/4 to 1/2 of us. The process was most likely random, as my travel partner with the same itinerary passed through without interruption.

    "Some things will never change, such as what is in the seatback pocket...." 2020 had something to say about that!
    I've never flown TATL on a B757 but I'd be fine with it, looks like an okay place to spend 8 hours (which is only 1/3 longer than a USA transcon, except this had meals in economy whereas a transcon does not, of course.!) Interestingly, DL is not using their B757s across the Atlantic after 2021, despite their updated cabins, so if you want to fly TATL on the old Boeing, only UA and FI are left.

    Tried 6 hours on Icelandair 757 from KEF to EWR and after a few hours, it started to be a bit claustrophobic due to it being a narrow body plane😰

    • @andrewsaviation7792
      @andrewsaviation7792  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, that's a tough one. A narrow body can only feel comfortable for so long sometimes. Never flown Iceland air, but it seems like they specialize in 757 flights 😅

    • @theroadtosunrise
      @theroadtosunrise 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew's Aviation Yeah, for a small country like Iceland when it comes to citizens, the 757 is the ideal plane. But I wished I could move a bit on the aircraft, but there isn’t enough space in the cabin. Also, the seats can make my back hurt a lot after sitting for long hours.

    • @andrewsaviation7792
      @andrewsaviation7792  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No kidding. It's great to get up and move around when the seats are cramped. But its hard to climb over 2 people when your in the window :)

    • @theroadtosunrise
      @theroadtosunrise 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew's Aviation That is why I prefer a 2-4-2 configuration in economy. Which is not to be seen on the 787, 777 or the A350 and A380. Luckily, JAL went for the 2-4-2 configuration on their 787s, making the seats a little more wider.

    • @andrewsaviation7792
      @andrewsaviation7792  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2-4-2 layout is always nice. JAL and ANA have high yields on their routes so they can support the wider layouts.

    Hey Andrew. United is currently in the process of overhauling their ex-Continental 757-200's. Among other things they are installing cutting-edge new entertainment systems, similar to those on the revered 787-10. Despite the A321XLR order, United are still investing thoroughly into their older trusty flying pencils. That should be a much better experience than the decade-plus old systems on most of the current ex-Con -200's. I'm guessing you can't wait to experience it yourself.

      @@andrewsaviation7792 A friend of mine just flew on N14120 the other day. It's the Star Alliance livery unit and has the new interior. As to the video on demand, he said it was the best AVOD ever. There's an enormous selection of movies and great graphics. Heck, the attention to detail was so good, that on that particular unit's system, it showed an animation of the plane with its unique paint livery. While the might 757's only have a few years left, it should be a welcome change for travelers on longer flights to fly United.

    i flew the 757 from Newark to Dublin on UAL. Unfortunately, it was a horrible flight. The food was horrible and the IFE didn't work. As much as I like the 757, I don't like it for transatlantic. A 767 or an A330 is better suited.
