    Taylor you are one of the very few TH-camrs that provide a decent representation as to what the amp actually sounds like. Even TH-camrs whose channel I love always end up making the amps they test sound remarkably similar. Keep up the good work.

    Engls have that fast tracking note clarity that is pretty much unrivaled by any other amp manufacturer. Had the EVHs, VHT, Diezel (close 2nd) They translate that clarity live and loud. Definitely needed for players/bands clocking in over the 260 bpm mark- if you want to hear your notes and not turn into a distorted mess.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree about the clarity and note separation. I think the biggest thing I like is that the distortion character is more smooth while still having a pretty mean growl. I've learned that I don't enjoy amplifiers that have more of a hard clipping or fuzz type gain to them.

      @TaylorDanley  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does have a lot of things under the hood so to speak. I think in comparison to the Satan though, the distortion is just smoother and more pleasing to listen to. The Satan, as with the other Randalls I've tried, have pretty harsh distortion.. if that's your thing.

    When I bought my amp it was between the engl savage mkii and the evh 5150iiis el34 100 watt heads. I went with the evh because I knew option paralysis would ruin me with the savage. Now I almost wish I had gotten it for the midi switching. I now I have my evh switching using midi commands but I had to buy extra stuff and jump through hoops to make it happen. But it does sound freaking sick af. So does the savage tho.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The evh 5150s are great amps also. I think there's definitely more options to be had in the savage, but honestly one of the big things for me (surprisingly) is the noise gate. It's really a nice feature to have built in.

    • @smeemusic
      @smeemusic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TaylorDanley yeah it would be nice if my head had built in noise gate. My gate is mounted in my pedalboard under the hood. It doesn't move, its always on. I rarely think about it and it seems to never get in the way of my cleans or anything like that. At this point its almost like I don't have a noise gate or a noisy rig. But the fact of the matter is without my gate pedal, my amp would be a noisy mess. I can't wait to see what flagship evh decides to drop next. If they implement some of the user complaints. Midi support and noise gate being the 2 big things for me. Id drop another $3k usd on a new evh with upgraded features.

    That's a lotta knobs. Speaking of knobs - I've been looking to pick up an Egnater Tourmaster (also 4 channel high gain) as soon as I have space for it...would be great to get the cabs too but there exists a twin combo which is also very acceptable. But yes, lots of knobs and fiddling on an amp that is actually in production! Good stuff.
    Also 120 in the model name usually means 120W not 120V but you can use a Variac if you want if an amp happens that you want but it's only available in 240V (the EVH solution).
    jklol but the Variac solution is real

    Honest question: I'm a former gigging thrash metal guitarist and I can't understand why so many metal guitar players have so many amps. Is it to collect / looks cool in a room? As much as I love the metal tone and appreciate the difference between say a Crate and a Marshall, are their tones really that different to where it justifies spending THOUSANDS of dollars to have so many? (When you could spend that money on incredible outboard recording gear, more guitars, etc. Or hell, maybe you're so rich that you DO have all the recording gear you could ever want AND every great metal amp ever made)

    Tone balance. I have no experience with this but I can tell you my first thought that comes to mind on what it might do. I'm thinking that if you have dramatically different sounding tones from channel to channel maybe the tone balance will make them more similar to each other (balanced)....????? I really don't know at all. This is just what comes to mind when I hear tone balance and it doesn't seem to do much. If you try this out lmk if I'm right or wrong. I'm super curious about this knob. Or if you just figure out what it does. I really would like to know.

    Mmmm ENGL, cost-prohibitive excellence since 1983. I did the old "test every amp in the store" about a 15yrs ago, and narrowed down to a Powerball and a 5150 III, I've wanted an ENGL amp since then. The closest I will get is the Valeton GP-100 models :)

    It's an ENGL, they've already replaced every amp if your IQ is above room temps. Got my first job at 17 to buy my E670SE in 2006 and rescently got the Ironball E606SE to match. Look at the musicians who use ENGL; it's more illustrious than the rock and roll hall of fame. Used by actual musicians. ✌

    Sounds worse than the 5150, IMO. I felt the same way about the Engl SE I owned once upon a time. It's just something about them. They sound too dark and dry, IMO. The various 5150 variants all have much more bite and presence.

    • @patrickb.b.1015

      Change the transformators ajust to your voltage from the ENGL Savage then you will get monstrous high gain sounds out of it that easily can cut through a 5150 even in a live situation.

    this amp does not need and overdrive pedals in front of it this is the act of bored musicians who think they need extra toys to throw at amps Engl has more than enough gain and tightness.

    Honest question for you here. I have seen a couple of amps that I wanted to buy from Thomann and they are all European voltage. On Amazon I have seen a voltage converter for anywhere from $50 - $100 that will step up 120 to 240.
