    Hi there!
    I noticed that saving the profile on "Profile Distribution" I can just save for my user enabling "User Level" but it won't appear in all the users if you are not the Admin. Actually "Save Profile" will be disabled and won't let you save. Excellent series of videos! You nailed it!

      Lots of granularity with profile distribution setting, regarding the user or now, it really does not matter since where these profile are stored is in the System 32 folder and that is not under any specific user folder. And thank you!

    Great video and very clear explaination, the only thing I didn't like about this software is that unlike DisplayCal it doesn't provide you with exact information about how much of a color space is being properly covered after calibration (e.g. Rec.709:100% or P3: 96%)

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. The information that you have about color gamut coverage percentage is never really accurate, which is why this software avoid this all together.

      @@ArtIsRight I thought you said that PD monitors cannot do hardware calibration with external calibrator (like spider pro). At least that’s what I think you mean by hardware calibration. If so how is it that you were able to use the hardware device on the screen to calibrate it if it can only do software calibration. Please answer as this determines the monitor I plan to buy.

    Thank you Art for the video. I'd love to see a more expanded video around luminance and overall color matching for photo printing and video editing. When I first started using the i1Profiler a few years back, I started with 120 cd/m2 default value. It was certainly a huge departure from the default factory brightness of my monitor (I needed to get down to 22 out of 100 on my Acer BM320). The colors were certainly lot more accurate based on Delta E quality check, but though noticeably improved, I couldn't achieve what I'd qualify as very good print matching. First, the brightness of the monitor was too low vs. the prints, and the colors were sometimes either warmer or cooler on the prints. I'm sure the quality of the printing services I was using was one factor. The other I realized was my print viewing environment, the ambient lighting around my monitor, etc. Through some trial and error, I've been able to achieve a satisfactory print matching based on calibrating for D65 & 160 cd/m2. I noticed that the luminance of 160 cd/m2 had a note in the i1Profiler that it's based on ISO 3664 P2, which I learned to be a Print Viewing standard, with 500 lux viewing condition. For the monitor, I setup D65 ambient lighting around my monitor (fairly dim to only provide some eye relief), and for viewing prints, I got a print viewing lamp with high CRI, and set the temp to D50 equivalent and at 500 lux. And I got the level of print matching I hadn't been able to achieve before. There was some "logic" to my approach, but I don't have a grasp of the overall theory, so it was more of a dumb luck and piecing together tidbits of information from various online sources (which we know how "reliable" they can be). Any video that could provide some wisdom on the overall color matching would be great, just an idea ;)

    Hello Art. Thank you very much for your support and the video. It was so helpful! One question I do have though. When calibration ist done exactly how you showed (Apple Studio with the PD3220U) . How do I use my setting correctly? In the system references, I got the right profile now. Do I have to put my setting on the hotkey puck to -> «color», «color mode», to «user»? Just want to make sure, that the screen really shows the colors with the profile I set up. Thank you very much!

      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      You should choose the color mode before calibrating. If you haven't made any changes on your display, you are probably using P3 at the moment. Leave it, you are fine. If you want to use another color mode, set that first and then run the calibration.

    Hi Art, Great video as all of yours are!
    Not sure this is the right video to ask this question. Maybe you answer it somewhere else. I have calibrated several different monitors including my XPS15 laptop. On the left side of the Display Settings screen there is a Assets box, with various sub-listings... Display Settings, Profile Settings, Patch Sets, Measurements, ICC Profiles, Saved Workflows. I can see all my saved ICC Profiles there and other listings.
    -- How/when are each of these sub-listings to be used by me? You did not run the Display/Quality (on software home page) in this video, but how to use these Assets after running the Quality Check?
    -- What should I do (or not do) regarding the assets when doing the Quality Check? What video is best for showing the Quality Check operation/review?
    I hope you can help me 'put it all together' for my clearer Assets understanding.
    BTW, Quality Check is now working with the last CCProfiler update on my laptop. So I uninstalled i1Profiler software, and exclusively use CC Profiler.
    Many thanks for all your videos and great responses to user questions!

      What you see on the left is a repeat of what you see in the bottom workflow part. If you have a custom calibration save at each stage of the process then you can simply choose the preset that you made and those will load all of the setting that you have setup. I personally have not used this as much as I have done calibration and that is a lot. I just ran more than 10 calibration in the past few hours. So unless you have varying specific need I would not worry too much about this.
      I would just run display QA after the calibration. This ∆e explain video will give you a good idea of how to read the QA data th-cam.com/video/YzkOjL9JUJU/w-d-xo.html
      ccProfiler QA has always worked but it does crash sometime, at least until this update. These 2 software are practically the same back end with logo change and some minor variations for device support. Hope this helps. Please feel free to follow up.

    Hello Art, thank you for all your very informative videos! I have hard time doing hardware calibration of my ViewSonic VP2785-2K using Calibrite Display Plus - older Colorbration software often is not able to connect to the colorimeter or monitor (it doesn't specify to which of them) and newer Colorbration+ software often crashes while loading. Currently they both' wont work, and I am not able to perform hardware calibration. Even when they work, the newer Colorbration+ gives terrible result with too much blacks, while the older Colorbration doesn't have so much blacks, but still a black to white gradient is not purely neutral with some faint red overall cast, and also some local stripes with greener or more red tint. I have tried only the newer Calibrite Profiler software, but from this video I see that the older i1 Profiler looks exactly the same as the older ViewSonic Colorbration Software. I guess, older Colorbration version was a rebranded i1 Profiler with some functionality stripped down, so that's why it might be not so stable, if it didn't follow up with the actual releases of i1 Profiler?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are technically all made by X-Rite. i1Display Pro Plus is the same as Calibrite ColorChecker Display Plus. The thing is that you can use ColorChecker Profilier from Calibrite to with your i1Display Pro Plus device. If you want to use Calibrate Profilier you would have to pay a $9.99 one time upgrade fee. It has to do with the device license. Anyhow, I sadden you are running into these issue, in general, I don't recommend ViewSonic Pro or Asus ProArt because of the inadequate calibration capability of their software. What you can do for the time being is use ColorChecker Profilier, follow this guide and see if you can get it to work. The device should work with Calibrite software just fine. I would check and make sure that view sonic software is not running in the background preventing the device from working properly. If you have any further questions dm me on fb page or insta and we'll go from there. There may be a lot of back and forth which is why I recommend dm.

    Hey, Art! Thanks for the videos. This one in particular was useful and I've watched several others while looking to buy a new monitor. I recently received my BenQ EW3280U monitor and I love it. However, I would like to calibrate it for use with my laptop to do some photo editing. I am not a professional photographer, but still like to print out my images for personal use and as gifts. I typically use online print services for this and most of them use sRGB. In addition, I will be using the monitor for gaming and movie watching. For the size and price, an entertainment monitor seemed to fit my budget and needs better than a professional photographer or designers monitor. I would like to ensure the monitor is calibrated for use with my laptop, but the problem is I'm not sure what color mode to put it in. The specs for the monitor say it will do 95% DCI-P3, which is very close to the sRGB space, but there is no specific DCI-P3 mode. My options are Low Blue Light, Rec.709, Color Weakness, M-book, Standard and User. I had expected to see a DCI-P3 mode. Would this be the Standard and is that what I should be using when I create a color profile on my laptop? I know any HDR setting needs to be turned off on both the laptop and the monitor. Thanks in advance!

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Brandon Porter, great question, this this case I would use Standard. Also another mode that you might consider using is Uses, in that mode you can adjust the RGB gained manually, and if you choose this mode you would have to check the RGB adjustment in i1Profiler as well.

    New subscriber here. Great videos! I'm still waiting to order my new PD3220U display, but I saw a comment somewhere from BenQ there is a panel shortage due to COVID19. Not sure when I'll get one but, when I DO eventually catch them back in stock, I intend to go through this process. I just picked up the X-Rite i1Display Pro and will probably test it out on my two Asus PB278Q monitors to practice while I'm waiting for the BenQ to come back in stock. My primary point of confusion is how to prep the monitor before calibration. Should I do a factory reset of all settings? Do I need to disable any type of automatic adjustments (things like black enhancers, etc). Should I set to Warm, Cool or Normal? Should I do this at night in a dark room to ensure best accuracy? Lastly, should I remove/disable any current ICC profiles I'm using in Windows 10? Any advice you can provide on monitor prep (other than the 30 min warm up time) will be appreciated. You don't have to do this at night in a darkroom, I may or may not have mentioned in this video that you don't have to calibrate in the dark because the calibrate opening have a felt lining that prevents light from going in. In short you can't or not really well it comes to TV. You are correct that you can't really install a profile on the TV. However, some of the high end model have calibration mode and a adjustable LUT. But it is not as simple as just putting a calibrator on the display. They are generally only compatible with the high end - pro calibration software such as CalMan and you have to use a pro color radiometer and a pattern generator to start. It is complicated and too costly.

      The gamma for both Mac and PC is 2.2 you can calibrate at other gamma but that will change your image outcome. It is best to stick to the gamma that most devices use which is 2.2. About profile, you can use that in PS. Gamma control is a function of the display and profile, PS does not change this.

      Not sure where you are getting Gamma 1.8 from. If the calibration gamma is 2.2 you will be seeing 2.2 not 1.8. As I said PS does not have a setting that control the display directly to change the output. However, it does have soft proofing but that feature does not change the display gamma, unless the profile that you are using for proofing was done at gamma 1.8. But if you want everything to look good just stick with the standard 2.2 gamma. And yes your calibration results looks fine.

    2. This one is kinda 2 questions in 1. I bought the x-rite display pro plus, so I have the BT1886 option, do I need to set it to that? Or sRGB considering that I want vibrant/accurate colours but not using it for printing photos or professional photography editing but for surfing through the web watching movies and doing work stuff?
    2.1 And for the gamma is it fine if I leave it to 2.2? I saw an option on another calibrator software that let you select srgb instead of 2.2 which is roughly the same but the srgb line curve makes the dark appear lighter.
    So I hate it when my colours are darker or lighter than usual. That is the reason why I bought a calibrator. I'm not going to use it for photo editing or professional printing/editing stuff. I just want my colours to look vibrant and correct when surfing through the web, watching a movie and doing my stuff for work.

      1. yes, the range is just a suggestion but works universally throughout and for all uses even for web and video, but if you prefer more just calibrate with more.
      2. BT1886 is really used for color grading and video work. You can calibrate it to that if you do video work. BT1886 is a logarithmic gamma curve rather than a linear one and is totally different from color gamut which is sRGB. Normal BT1886 is used with REC709. For content consumption, you'll won't see that much benefit and it is easier to keep it simple and not over think it.
      3. See answer above gamma and gamut are not the same. sRGB gamut choose 2.2 that is standard for photo editing.

    1. I calibrated Macbook pro M1 Max with iProfiler Pro according to your method (PFS native), which came out great! However I also calibrated an external display(DELL S2721DGF) but it came out more red compared to Macbook pro. I was wondering if there is any solutions to make the displays more similar?
    2. In photoshop, should I need to change the colorsetting to the new ICC I made for the Dell Display which is my main display?
    3. For MacBook pro, is it correct that if I use the new icc for Current Profile in ColorSync, I should use the customized presents for the display?

      1. Not much, you are calibrating each display individually for conformity to the color gamut spec. There may be some method for matching white point which will help a little but not much. The important question is for your dell what color mode do you have that set on?
      2. I would. Follow this th-cam.com/video/Gu1nqEf8vzg/w-d-xo.html
      3. You have to use the custom preset along with the custom icc. Right now I don't recommend calibrating the MBP yet because the matrix data is not updated for that display just yet. The result is ok but icc is much smaller.

      Flicker, I am not sure about this, what video card do you use. As far as chrome and after boot, it is the profile getting applied. Chrome does color manage and that is what you might be seeing. It would appear that this is not subtle or seem-less on your system as it should be. Video brightness change with sub title is normal in some circumstances especially when the text are not embedded in the video. Your display is overlaying the white text and because the screen uses single backlight source this is normal. Mini or Micro LED with local dimming will help with this or OLED but LED IPS Backlight panel, well this is the best that it will get for video. For what its worth, this is something common that I see on my iPad with playing movies with sub title.

None of this has happened to me before I calibrated my two monitors. I realized then it was a problem with the transparency that Windows has on its apps, so I switched it off in settings and the problem disappeared! AND ALSO, videos on TH-cam look different in Chrome vs. Firefox! In Chrome, it has an added contrast which looks off, like I can see the clipping in dark areas. Also, to answer your question I have a RX 480 8GB on my desktop at home (with the AOC monitor) and a RX 5500 XT at work (with the PD3200U monitor), both of them are AMD, so it could also be a problem with the graphics card drivers. But I can't say the same about my MacBookAir M1 with an external display. Although the colours and brightness are very close, the contrast and darkness of the shadows are noticeably different. Why is that? All the calibration settings were the same. I saw lots of definitive settings for colours, gamma, and white point in the software but the Contrast is left unclear. Is there a reference or some measurement numbers which determine if the contrast is correct or not, so that I could set it identical for two different displays to see similar images as I did for the brightness? And another question - is there any way how to set the brightness of the MacBook in half a tick? In my case, brightness in the middle is 128 cd, which is too bright, and one tick below is 82 cd which is kinda dark... I would love to have it in the middle, but I don't know if macOS allows for a more precise brightness setting...

      I just watched your video on matching displays so I basically got the answer for the contrast difference question, thank you. Though I'd like to know - is there some criteria that tell that one monitor has a correct contrast and another is worse - that could be measured by an i1 Display Pro e.g. so that the decision which display to keep as a reference was objective and not based on our eyes only.

      Yes the calibrate method is the same for most of the displays. I would probably calibrate it in Display P3 color mode this way you have access to the most color. Or if you spend a lot of time in DaVinci and you are on a PC then you should consider REC 709. And your OS or software would handle the majority color conversion via the CMM in the background in realtime.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which BenQ do you have? If you have the SW you should be calibrating with Palette Master Element, if you have the PV then Palette Master. If you have the PD then yes you can use i1Profiler, if you editing your work in resolve and use REC 709, you should do a calibration in REC 709 color mode and notated in the profile name REC 709 this way you know which profile it is. So when you switch to REC 709 color mode on the display, what you will do is choose the corresponding profile in the color management dialog on either Mac or Win 10. You want to make sure that the programs are not running when you switch the profile. After the switch launch the program so that they can use the correct profile for rendering.

    Q2. What about Windows HD colour settings, not sure which version you have but going through windows settings - system - display - Windows HD colour settings, it comes up with a screen that says:
    Display capabilities :
    Stream HDR video No
    Use HDR No
    Use WCG apps No
    Q3. Does this mean windows doesn't support WCG apps like Lightroom? And hence you cant see all the colours because of the OS colour management system.

      @@ArtIsRight hello there, thanks for the great video! and if it doesn't bother you, I just have one question regarding the versions - if I use both MacOS and Windows on the same display, can I just use the same v2 profile for both or is it better to create separated v4 for MacOS and v2 for Windows?
      and also is it better to calibrate in the darkest room possible or it doesn't matter as long as no direct light is coming to the screen?

    Hello Art. I have calibrated my monitor using X-Rite i1 and DispalyCal. Every time I start Windows the DisplayCal Profile Loader will automatically load icc into OS. I understand color management needs OS and software working togerther to display correct color. Some software does not support color management at all, other software (like Firefox) needs special settings to display correctly. I want to know if I need to set up my Lightroom, Bridge, and Photoshop as well? Or will these Adobe software automatically load icc profile from OS? I have heard so many different voices, and I know Art will be right. Thank you!

      Lightroom and to some extent bridge you don't really have to set the icc and this would include PS as well. However, in PS, you can set the preferred color space the you want to use. This principle applies th-cam.com/video/Gu1nqEf8vzg/w-d-xo.html

    I have a Asus ProArt278QV display. I'm using the same device as in the video to calibrate the monitor. But I always get a 'fail' report. The deltaE off all patches is 7.3.
    The calibrating report from the factory says that the deltaE of this monitor is below 1.0 What am I doing wrong?

      Great question. That ∆e is high. What color mode are you setting the display to? I would probably recommend that you set it User Mode 1 or 2 and then do the custom RGB calibration adjustment like I showed here th-cam.com/video/kSGVS3pSxV8/w-d-xo.html also what are some other settings you are using, white point, luminance, gamma, contrast, etc.

      You can but you are not getting the most out fo the display. There's are underlying software issues with validation failure and most of the time it is not hardware related.
      If you could Please answers these questions completely, we may have a solution that is workable.
      Also if you are on Mac and running Catalina 10.15.4 or higher, disable HDR, that will cause validation failure too.
      1. What computer (Laptop - Mac specify the model, year and size, Desktop, iMac, all in 1 PC, custom build, etc )
      2. What is your Operating System (OS) version are you using? (For Mac please specify the dot release, for Windows please specify version / build number)
      3. What calibrator are using?
      4. What version of PME are you using?
      5. What BenQ model do you have?
      6. What cable are you using to connect your BenQ to your computer for the display signal, HDMI, Display Port, etc.
      7. If you are using USB-C skip this question, if not, are you using a USB link cable between your laptop and display?
      8. If you are using Mac was this a clean install or was the OS upgraded from a previous version at any point (I.e. From Mojave 10.13.x to Catalina 10.14.x)? Or was this Mac restore from a back up, time machine or other wise?
      9. For PC, what GPU are you using? If Nvidia are you using their new Studio Driver?
      10. Were you able able to successfully pass the validation at some point
      11. For SW2700PT owner, look at the back of your display on the regular tag and give me the MFG date.

    Thank you for this video. I am receiving my PD2700U today. I know that the monitor is factory calibrated for the sRGB picture mode. I want to calibrate the monitor with my i1Display Pro using i1profiler software in the User picture mode so I can compare the colors to the sRGB factory calibration.
    My question is that in windows 10 the created .icm monitor profile will be automatically loaded by i1Profiler when Windows starts. If I select the sRGB picture mode on the monitor instead of User picture mode after the calibration has been done, how is the loaded .icm i1Profiler profile treated? Will the .icm profile need to be unloaded in Windoes when the the sRGB picture mode is selected on the PD2700U? In other words, how are these 2 picture modes used after a User mode calibration has been performed?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      icm profile are automatically loaded when windows loaded. You would have to choose the color mode on the display that corresponds to the correct icm profile. i.e. the color mode that you have done the calibration with. As far as using a profile that does not match the color mode, every will work it is just that you won't get a matching profile and color output will be off slightly. Visually this may not be noticeable but the values will be off. Based on my testing just calibrate the display in sRGB color mode and use that icm profile.

    • @bradfountainvideos
      @bradfountainvideos 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtIsRight Thank you Art, very clear answer. If I were to calibrate the display in user mode, wouldn't that leave the sRGB picture mode unchanged from the original factory calibration and allow me to easily jump back and forth between the custom calibration and the factory calibration to decide which I liked best?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do that but when you switch between them one of the since i.e. user mode.icm is calibrate under user mode. when you switch to sRGB and if keep the user mode.icm the color won't be as accurate because it was calibrate in the other color mode.

      @@ArtIsRight Final question please Art, and thanks again for your help. I will be using Davinci Resolve 16 on the PD2700U for grading Gopro videos. Resolve's default input color space, timeline color space and output color space are all Rec.709 Gamma 2.4. Should I select the Rec.709 color mode on my display to match Resolve's color management settings or leave it in the the default sRGB color mode? Which option would be most likely to match the output when viewed on my TV?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So if you are using Resolve, then I would set the display to REC 709 and calibrate it in REC 709 and go with that. Otherwise you would not be able to get an accurate REC 709.

    Dear ArtisRight, I have a question please. When I do and measure the calibration on the window where we can see the average delta results and also the maximum, to the right there are a couple of colours. In my case the cheap monitor for everyday use gave me and average of 0.8 (all patches) and a maximum of 4.9 (all patches). The colours on the right like I was referring to above have highlighted two colours and I would say the black and some sort of blue light right next to the black with delta values of 2.495 and 4.926 respectively. Now the question is: I will have to be careful if I am using the colour that gave 4.926 or this will affect the whole image despite of we have or not that colour in particular? TiA

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      what the delta e value describe is the amount that color is off from reference, ideally you want that value for all of the patches to be below 2 but 5 will be ok in this case too. Yes I would be careful when you are looking at an image with that color but otherwise you should be ok. If you can get the average delta e of less than 5 you are good to go.

    • @pyroBlastM
      @pyroBlastM 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtIsRight thank you for your time in answering to these questions. Well, the MacBook Pro gave a maximum delta E o 1.0 and the regular office monitor gave a maximum delta E of 3.0 for this sort of strange colour looks like dark turquoise colour. In the other office monitor it gave a maximum delta E of 5.
      Now I have another question. I have calibrated this at night with one light on.
      Shall I also calibrate this during day time and have two profiles? Will the calibration numbers change? Thanks

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you run 2 calibration the number will change slightly but not by much. It is one of those things where at the time of measurement the conditions (internal) on the display are not precisely the same. I would just stick with the calibration that you have. And not worry about having 2 profiles.

    • @pyroBlastM
      @pyroBlastM 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtIsRight thanks. Very helpful. And since we are talking about calibration let me ask you something else.
      If you are calibrating a laptop that it isn't a macbook and using a third party DisplayCal software, it asks yo to measure the white point. For that you need to adjust the RGB channels. Can I ask you something about this? TIA

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most laptop displays does not have native RGB controls, if you have them they are via software, to which precision is depend on the software that you use to adjust it. I would just stick with i1Profiler in this case.
