You have inspired me to actually start doing some short hikes. After i retired from work my strength and energy levels were low and getting steadily lower - but i started van dwelling last December and have camped from NC to CA and back. My strength and endurance have improved drastically. And I'm looking forward to visiting Utah and seeing some of the things you have shown us. Thank you for your channel and your "never quit" attitude. Hoping to meet you on the road some day. Cheers & Hugs!!
It's great to hear that you're doing some hiking! I love that. That makes me really happy. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and that vanlife is treating you well. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
That looked like a lovely July trip to Utah.......just kidding. I loved the Rochester Panels and thank you for showing those; I had never heard of them and found where they were on a map after watching your video. That is a place I am going to make the effort to see. I am with you; I love looking at the First Nations' art work. I am a bit different than you in that I love the snowfall and love to walk when the snow is falling, but I really, really don't like walking in high wind. I will do it, but I sure would rather do without the wind.
Incredible panel at 14:40! I can't imagine what they were using for paint that could survive the harsh weather and temperature changes of the area. Thank you so much for sharing!
That part of the cliff is severely overhanging, so I don't think it gets much in the way of rain, but I was still amazed by how well preserved the panel was. Really amazing stuff. Thanks Barb!
Another great day. The rock art was amazing. Some of the best you have shown us. Utah has some really beautiful areas. Have you thought about putting a come along and a strap in your car for emergencies. Not terribly expensive and good to have in a pinch. Great video. Looking forward to the next. Davin
Utah is an amazingly beautiful place, and there's still so much more to see. Yes, a come-along or heavy duty ratchet strap is definitely on my short list of emergency items to get, but I haven't gotten one yet. It would be a good thing to have. Thanks Davin.
What a pretty little arch! Very nice. Some of the rock art reminds me of the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, scenes of the underworld with fanciful creatures, bur most of these are hard to make out and I would have to know much more of the culture to understand them. I can see why that one panel took your breath away. Thanks for posting! This is (as per usual) a wonderful video--- and I am a huge fan boy. :D
5:50 ... Whoa! That is a gorgeous panel. Also I believe that second panel, the one that had its top half calfed off, is only recently damaged as it looks like a famous panel depicting the Anasazi, or Ancient Ones. Maybe there are others just like it but it sure looks familiar.
Those art panels were fascinating!!! You make me laugh - I love the snow, other than driving in it - it's the wind and cold I don't like. But it is so good to see someone else getting out in other-than-summertime weather. I really like winter camping and hiking. As always, thanks for sharing!
Amazing find! I would have been in awe looking up to that beautiful find. As vivid as it was on video, I'm sure it was much better in person. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for another nice video. About 6 or 7 years ago one could drive right off the freeway to get to Dutchman Arch. Not any more. Also the roads in that area have really eroded away in places in recent years.
Yeah, now it is a very long and roundabout way to get to Dutchman Arch. No direct access from the interstate. But still worth the trip, especially with the rock art nearby. Thanks Kurt.
Beautiful art work and countryside. Starting mini campervan conversion soon. All been well first trip will be a world music festival in a couple of months. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Hi Triston, don't now if you have one but the Mondo King has an excellent twin xl inflatable mattress whicch is a thermal heat insulated which is a lifesaver in cold weather. $99 US + tax. Zporting goodz outfitter should have. Google or Amazon for it. Ztay warm, stay curioius .
Love the art and really like your views of things very relaxing and best of all you go where most do not today making your video's great history of these places..Thank You for your knowledge and hard work..
That line with circles was very interesting. It looked like a timeline from dinosaurs to current (then) animals. The big ones later on are fascinating! I would love to meet the artist and have him/her explain all of the drawings to me! ~sigh~ This is from before you told the filmed date. Unless this is a REALLY cold May. 😂
Truly amazing that first set and the last ones. Very pretty area!! I'd rather deal with the snow than rain. Was going to ask if you had a shovel or something if you did get stuck. Hope you found some warmer weather as you headed South.
Yeah, rain sucks too :) I did eventually find warmer weather, but it took a few more days. Oh well. The cold weather is a minor inconvenience but not a big deal. Thanks Tina!
TRISTAN! This is awesome! I'm so glad I found your adventure and early on! I live in Canada and it's pretty neat to see Utah with snow. I had no idea. I agree. Cold isn't so bad but the only time I found it useful is when I was guiding dog sled expeditions. And tubing, and Xmas day. But otherwise, yeah. It just makes everything more difficult. But. These videos are great. Great pacing and production and now, I need to go to Utah too. ;) how lucky are we now to have such nature AND such technology to share it! Can't wait to watch the rest until I can go myself. I think by then I'll have to trade in my mazda5. It really won't make it to the pictographs.. :p All the best!
Snow certainly has its place, but I'd prefer it if that place weren't also the place I lived and recreated most of the time :) And you should definitely make it down to Utah. I think it has the highest density of beautiful places of any state. Definitely worth visiting. Thanks Bonnie.
Did almost getting stuck make you think about adding a come-along winch and some rope to your supplies? When I got stuck in snow last year in Oregon why SUV RV'ing I didn't have that equipment and was out of cell range. I was ready to call for what would have been expensive help via my inReach when somebody happened by in an OHV and helped tow me out (with a $20 bill token of my appreciation)
That's something I've been wanting to get for a while, but it hasn't been a priority. It's still on the list, though. I've been thinking of getting a Spot 3 satellite communicator. It seems pretty inferior to the InReach in basically every way except for the Save Our Vehicle (SOV) feature. It's an extra $30 a year or something ridiculously cheap, and it includes "a 24/7 roadside vehicle assistance program that gets help for you and your car, SUV, ATV, RV, trailer or motorcycle with the simple push of a button. It doesn't matter how far off the grid you go, you can always count on SPOT S.O.V. to get you out of a jam." That alone is worth it for me.
Loved everything about this segment. Have been hiking in Arizona and Nevada and come across a fair bit of rock art but that panel was spectacular! I’m retiring soon and hope to spend much more time out west - what time of year did you film this?
SUV RVing I can't wait to explore some of the places you share with us, I am heading out to USA from London in July to purchase and convert a school bus into my tiny house on wheels, hope your having a good day?
Precooked bacon isn't as delicious as the raw stuff you cook yourself, but you get 90% of the flavor for basically zero effort. It's great to eat while driving as well if you don't mind eating it cold. Combine it with some pre-cooked hard boiled eggs from Walmart and you've got yourself portable bacon and eggs. I tend to handle the foods I eat at home (meat, eggs, nuts, vegetables) a lot better than going on a road trip and switching to fast food, then spending the first three days lethargic and running to the toilet (or bucket). I don't handle that stuff well at all.
I agree. The pre-cooked bacon is good stuff! Not as good as the "real" thing, but definitely good enough. I'll have to try the pre-cooked hard-boiled eggs from Walmart. Thanks for watching and commenting!
SUV RVing they're usually on the "island" at the front of the produce section with the prepared foods like hoagies and salads. Add a sprinkle of salt and you're good to go!
I wonder if the food you have on the trail is different than at home. I know you go for simpler preparation or no preparation, but do you indulge on the road with things you wouldn't always eat at home? Or do you find yourself actually choosing power foods for the trip?
Love your video. Myself, do camping like yours, but never been camping for more than 4 days. I have 1 month vacation on october and planning to do road trip for the whole month. I have question, how is the weather in utah and colorado on october? Thank you.
It depends where you'll be. October in Utah and Colorado can be the best time of the year. It's gorgeous in the desert and often really nice in the mountains, but usually the first snow will fall in the mountains sometime in October. Sounds like a great trip!
i love the meals on wheels segments...but how do you know those pictographs re real? AND was gonna say cover your mouth and nose and don't let that cold air go in really bad for lungs, but happy to see :>) you already knew :>)
The petroglyph lookz like a ceramonial burial pictograph celebration the passing under a rainbow. The animals usher over with Great Spirit the departed to their waiting realm. Ha Ho blessings ♒
Nah. The amount of heat that it gives off is minimal. The amount of heat it does generate is negated by having to open the doors and lower the windows.
Don’t know if it was just me but the second set of pictographs seemed a little creepy! Struck me as some sort of sacrifice seen. The main pic looked like a priest and the columns like running blood. Am I reading too much into it? 😃
Sometimes, but not usually. I usually have me windows cracked at least an inch or two, even when it's really cold outside. I think that helps a lot with fighting the condensation.
SUV RVing also pick up a small can of damp rid at any dollar store, or put the natural ,least expensive kind of kitty litter in an old sock, tie it, then place near your windshield.
Bro! Love your channel, but this was def a CLICK-BAIT video title.... I've been stuck worse in a WalMart parking lot in the middle of Summer, and YOU have AWD to boot. LOL. Congrats on meeting your Utah Mountain Climbing Challenge!
There are plenty of other states with scenery as beautiful as Utah's, but I think that it's hard to beat Utah as far as density of beautiful places go. Thanks Barry.

We almost got stuck out there going to the panel.
Giggling Gypsy Happy for you! Hope you are still going!
Enjoyed the rock art and those cliffs! Not so much the cold and wind! Don’t get stuck!❤️😀🇺🇸🌏🚙
The 3rd Gen Rav4 seems to be doing the job getting you out to these amazing places!
As an Australian. I love snow.... We don't get much of it... I can appreciate how it could become annoying. Lovely video Tristain.
I really like your videos, they're really interesting and put together very well. Great job!
Thanks G!
Amazing rock art! This area is really pretty. Great video with beautiful views!
Thanks Carol! :)

I feel exactly the same about snow. I can handle the cold but I hate the snow. And that's coming from a Canadian.😀😉
Incredible panel at 14:40! I can't imagine what they were using for paint that could survive the harsh weather and temperature changes of the area. Thank you so much for sharing!

Great finds ! Stuck at home during Corvid-19 this month- (April 2020) I think I will binge watch your videos from the beginning ! Thanks

I like the Bosch comparison! I can definitely see that. I'm glad you like the videos, and I appreciate you watching and commenting :)
It snowed! I'll bet you saw it when you drove up, and parked at 08.30.
That rock art was awesome! Can't believe how cold it is there. Brr!
Yeah, I'm not fan of the cold, but it's better than staying at home! Thanks for watching :)
5:50 ... Whoa! That is a gorgeous panel.
Also I believe that second panel, the one that had its top half calfed off, is only recently damaged as it looks like a famous panel depicting the Anasazi, or Ancient Ones. Maybe there are others just like it but it sure looks familiar.
I don't think it was very recent, but you could be right. Thanks for watching!
Those art panels were fascinating!!! You make me laugh - I love the snow, other than driving in it - it's the wind and cold I don't like. But it is so good to see someone else getting out in other-than-summertime weather. I really like winter camping and hiking. As always, thanks for sharing!
As much as I don't like snow, I'd much rather be out in it than stuck at home! Thanks Melissa 🙂
Amazing find! I would have been in awe looking up to that beautiful find. As vivid as it was on video, I'm sure it was much better in person. Thanks for sharing!
It was incredible in person. Pretty amazing stuff. Thanks Debbie!

I’m with you. I don’t like snow either. Only in pictures at somebody else’s house :)
Love the art and really like your views of things very relaxing and best of all you go where most do not today making your video's great history of these places..Thank You for your knowledge and hard work..
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Mary. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
Thank You your Video's are Great...

Man what a video!!! Another great production sir !!!
Thanks Emmanuel! I'm glad you liked it.
Of course I really enjoy your videos. Also, a subscriber to your website. I just have to say this old lady likes your hair short like you have it. 😁
I’m really enjoying your vids. You got the right idea man! Wish I could do that!

Great video the panel was amazing
I agree, it was incredible. Thanks for watching and commenting, JR. I really appreciate it.
I really love this group!
What group?
The petrographs....
Ah. Gotcha. Lol thanks Donna 🙂
Fabutastic. As always....Just awesome ty again. ❤️
Thanks Chris Tina 👍
Love your van life vlog 👌
Thanks! :)
Yup. Your noise is really red... from the cold
It's still better than staying inside though 🙂 Thanks Alvara.
That frying pan covered with Teflon? Bad stuff.
Loved everything about this segment. Have been hiking in Arizona and Nevada and come across a fair bit of rock art but that panel was spectacular! I’m retiring soon and hope to spend much more time out west - what time of year did you film this?
BEAUTIFUL!!!
It really is a gorgeous area. Makes my job of putting together a pretty video easy :)
Great Art, your adventures in Utah are inspiring - keep up the good work
Thanks Amanda! Utah is a gorgeous place, and it's fun to be able to share it with others.
SUV RVing I can't wait to explore some of the places you share with us, I am heading out to USA from London in July to purchase and convert a school bus into my tiny house on wheels, hope your having a good day?

hey hi there I was wondering if any of those areas are prone to flash floods and if so what season are flash flood most likely to occur
I wonder if the food you have on the trail is different than at home. I know you go for simpler preparation or no preparation, but do you indulge on the road with things you wouldn't always eat at home? Or do you find yourself actually choosing power foods for the trip?

You should! They work great. I've found that I much prefer the thicker, slightly more expensive ones.
SOOO COOL :D
Thanks!
You should get a Jeep !!!! Nice video.
No thanks 😁 Thanks for watching
How has the solar panel been in this cold weather? Great camping/hiking spots. 👍
Great. I had no issues whatsoever with it in the cold.
Questions yes. Howz are those Mont Bell equipment you're wearing?
Love your video. Myself, do camping like yours, but never been camping for more than 4 days. I have 1 month vacation on october and planning to do road trip for the whole month. I have question, how is the weather in utah and colorado on october? Thank you.

Love the artwork you find on your excursions! Do not like snow, but live in Utah? :-)
Yep! That's just where we've ended up!
When I was younger that’s all I ate was bacon sandwiches. They are not very healthy but they sure taste good.
Yeah, I love them. I think I'm going to have some for lunch today :)
i love the meals on wheels segments...but how do you know those pictographs re real? AND was gonna say cover your mouth and nose and don't let that cold air go in really bad for lungs, but happy to see :>) you already knew :>)
I have no reason to believe the pictographs are fake. They're all over Utah, and those ones are similar to others I've seen.
Morevids like this
You got it.
The petroglyph lookz like a ceramonial burial pictograph celebration the passing under a rainbow. The animals usher over with Great Spirit the departed to their waiting realm. Ha Ho blessings ♒
Hi something appear really strange to me on top of your RAV4, your kayak rack is in the wrong way? How can you put it that way
If they were the "normal" way, I wouldn't be able to open up the cargo box that's on top.
what happened to the car getting stuck?
Put your clothes that your wearing the next day in your sleeping bag so they are warm to put on
Nice video! Is that a paper bowl that you used for your oatmeal? Thanks in advance.
Yep, I use paper bowls so that I can just throw them away afterward. Less dishes to do.
what the season was?
How much does it cost to travel to those places?
Did you ever try using the heat from your camp stove for heat ?
Lol, I see where you're coming from, but who knows what the original meanings were. Either way, it's pretty to look at now :)
Try grill cheese 🧀 ing it awsome .
Mmmm. Grilled cheese.
👍👍
One of the issues it seems everybody mentions is condensation, do you find this to be a problem?
Sometimes, but not usually. I usually have me windows cracked at least an inch or two, even when it's really cold outside. I think that helps a lot with fighting the condensation.
SUV RVing also pick up a small can of damp rid at any dollar store, or put the natural ,least expensive kind of kitty litter in an old sock, tie it, then place near your windshield.
Starting to remind me of Chris McCandless. Stay safe out there.
it was 95 today where i live in so cal lol. btw I wanna be you one day!
Nice! I'll definitely take 95 over 19. And lol, thanks for the kind words, but I don't think you want to be me :)
Bro! Love your channel, but this was def a CLICK-BAIT video title....
I've been stuck worse in a WalMart parking lot in the middle of Summer, and YOU have AWD to boot. LOL.
Congrats on meeting your Utah Mountain Climbing Challenge!
4WD, actually. Thanks!
Utah rocks ! :>)
There are plenty of other states with scenery as beautiful as Utah's, but I think that it's hard to beat Utah as far as density of beautiful places go. Thanks Barry.
