I got a sample of this a while ago and was so impressed i splurged and purchased a full size tub of their argumes soap and don't regret it one bit! The scent is amazing and the shave is equally incredible! The lather explodes out of the jar and it's slick, pillowy, and cushions like no other! I pair it with Stirling glacial lemon chill for a perfect citrus shave!
I love my martin de candre citrus. I've had it for almost a year and is normally my new go to and I haven't hardly touched the sides of it. It's really great value for money, now anyone can have a truly luxurious shave and not worry about the pocket.
You are braver than I am Sir. I prefer the safety part of a safety razor but I am always fascinated watching folks shave with a straight edge. Happy Labor Day. - Kevin W
Good morning Matt, This shave was so compelling. I found myself holding my breath as I watched you so carefully and meticulously use that straight razor. I am so glad you did not cut yourself. Thank you for this morning's shave video. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
Just got my first MDC, 6-7 weeks back, the (fantastic smelling Fougère). I do 3 passes every day… best guess from use so far is I’ll get 1.5+ years out of vs say 3-4 months from a US$20-30 soap and say 6 months (tops) for a tube of Proraso. So, great deal, great smell, great soap. If you use a bowl you can also put the unused back and leave it open to dry (MDC recommend this anyway, leaving it open) and it keeps going.
Thanks Matt and Razor Emporium I just received my Skinsational Esthetics by Savonna and love it. I can see it lasting for years. I have Gentleman’s Groom Room, Rex, Razor Emporium as well as Taylor Of Old Bond Street which are all great. You can’t go wrong with any of these, but I see myself using the Martin De Candre a lot.
Great review Matt. I agree it's an additional challenge to have to look down into a mirror. I guess you got a bit closer to experience what it was like for revolutionary war soldiers to shave.
Hi Matt. I have a Böker King Cutter straight and does an excellent job shaving me. I have been straight and shavette shaving close to 6 years and can easily do a 3 pass shave between 12 to 15 minutes. Enjoy you Labor Day Weekend.
What helps me to get a straight line on the side of the goatee is to have the blade in the opposite hand and the point pointed upwards. Then go from cheek towards the corner of your mouth. This way you can also stretch the skin behind the spine of the razor.
Nice! Two fantastic products reviewed with no color to take away from the surgical precision the hand wielded😉 Wish I hadn't sold my str8's, oh well live and learn. Great shave Matt, enjoy that deluxe feeling.
Congrats Matt. I have a straight razor myself i bought in London many years ago and untill this very day i didn't dare to use it. Perhaps after see you i might try it one of these days. By the way i own MdC original, fougere, agrumes and nature. All of them true amazing and long lasting. People should not look at the $65 but at the quality and the 400 or more shaves they provide. See you soon.
Agree Matt, Martin De Candre is great and lasts. I settled on the Vetyver for home, travel, and in the field - it never disappoints. As for straight razors, I refurbished (as a project) a couple of vintage UK made Bengall model razors, though they are not in daily use. Have always reserved them for every now and then, as they require a fair bit of maintenance. Great vid, cheers.
Matt, there is no better feeling than shaving with an edge you have put on a razor yourself, but it’s nice to see Boker step up the game and have if shave ready out of the box.
MdC is the Energizer Bunny of soaps. It just keeps going, and going and going…a smooth and slick lather monster with a seemingly bottomless jar of sensory delight! You made a great point about value, Matt. My jar of Fougere (an intoxicating scent to be sure) just might outlast me….LOL. Awesome review!
Congrats - you're the winner of the Weekly T-Shirt give-away! Please contact us at help@razoremporium.com with your address and size and we will get it shipped out right away! Thanks everyone! Stay tuned next week for another giveaway! - Razor Emporium Team
Hi Matt, Thanks for another fun and informative video. It is highly unlikely that I would ever use a straight razor because I like the protection of a safety bar. But I’m impressed with your skill with the straight razor. I have used the MDC soaps and while they are solid (forgive the pun) performers, I tend to like Ariana & Evans and also Barrister and Mann shave soaps a bit more for their cushioning and glide.

Hey mat , ur the one guy I can count on to help w everything shaving. I have the most sensitive skin and I do use the cold water method and I most of the time have a good shave. No burn or bumps. But Today I got the most wicked razor burn like terrible look like a burn … what’s the best way to help with razor burn.
Do you think you can make a comparison video of personna lab blues vs the med prep comfort coated ones? You said they felt different and I wanted to see a video comparison. Thanks
Great video Matt. I have a boker king cutter 5/8 round point which is a nice straight. I did have to set a bevel and hone it before it shaved. Great to see they have changed their ways!
@@JT-nf9tk I guess my frustration is that if you were a new straight razor shaver and bought a boker and tried to shave with it out of the box you wouldn’t get a good shave. I hone my own razors so I was able to fix it. I recently bought a ralf aust square point now that was shave ready out of the box. My point is that new straight razor shavers should look at ralf aust or a razor you know will be shave ready out of the box. Better first experience and save the $39 hone fee.
@@garyheinl793 I bought shave ready razors from reputable retailers such as Maggard's and Straight Razor Design that didn't charge a honing fee. Unfortunately, Straight Razor Design went out of business 6 years ago. I have also bought shave ready straight razors from Etsy . Some were 25 dollars and they were in very good shape.
Shaved off my beard and cut my chin in 6 places with my konsul on 1, feather blade. Might could have skipped the new feather. Hope to get some citrus Martin on your black Friday sale. I also have a Boker. I like to use the SR on my neck as a second pass.
Any chance we can have a video on how to tear down a Super Adjustable, since a lot of us birth year razors fall into Super Adjustable/Black Beauty years?
To my understanding, Martin de Candre is not a triple-milled soap. While it’s a hard puck, the process involves curing the soap for several months. I’ve read that each puck of MdC takes about nine months from start to finish. This method results in very low water content by the time it’s ready for packaging, which contributes to the soap’s long-lasting quality. I’ve tried different MdC scents multiple times, and while they all smell great and last a long time, my experience with the performance has been mediocre. Tallow soaps or high-end vegan soaps like Saponificio Varesino (SV) work much much better for my skin. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Nice brave shave Matt!
This was the first time I had to see so nervous, great video's.

I don’t exactly feel more confident about trying a straight razor

Use a balm. Stop shaving for a day or two. Crush up some baby aspirin and mix with witch hazel and apply to your skin

Matt, I know you're going to hate this comment, but I am all for more straight razor shaves. They're always so wild to watch. Happy Friday everyone!
I know 😂

Thanks, you too!
Mdc is amazing traditional soap, amazing post shave 🪒 i love the rose scent...and the most important 200gr of soap 🎉
Nice shave. If I shaved my face I would try a straight but scared to even attempt on my head.

Perhaps though the amount of specialized tools goes way up so I'm not sure who it will help....
Just a correction: MdC is not triple milled, it’s cured.
Yes 💯 thx 🙏

There no better shave every morning, as straight razor shave. And never without my Koraat razor.
More choices.

I tried all their soap but everytime my skin burned😢 they have a great scents though😊
You're going to have more people buying straight razors Matt...😃
Martin de candre is no triple milled
65$ woohooo! I buy mine locally🇺🇦 for 5$ (200 grams)🤣
I think I’d love the soap.
However, I know I love my blood in my body - so, no straight razor for me.
Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd. 😬
