    I love MWF. Its residual slickness is second to none and its post-shave feel is elite. The secret to get a great MWF lather is to load heavy (for one minute at the very least) with a dryish, not very wet brush and add water gradually, very gradually. Your patience will be rewarded with an amazing lather. Does Razor Emporium still carry MWF in its old, tallow formulation? BTW the most enjoyable part of wet shaving is face lathering (IMHO + YMMV). I gave up bowl lathering years ago.

    I have the Parker variant and had the same experience as Matt. The Razor is very well made, but it gave some rough shaves. For a point of reference, I shave on setting 6 with my Rex Ambassador when I have more than 3 days of growth. Shaving with the Rex on 6 still feels good, and one pass is enough.

    I find it hard to beat a vintage Gillette and you can find them for cheap and in almost new shape. And if it’s in rough shape you can always send it in to Razor Emporium they will get in working and looking like new! Thanks Matt!

    Matt, I bought the Rex ambassador from you a year ago and it only took a couple shaves to get used to it and when I got the hang of it…it became THE best razor I have literally beats the fatboy and I love my fatboy razors! 😂 also just so you know I absolutely LOVE love this review series please keep them coming! ☺️

    I'm new to MWF soap. I like it so far. It does take alot of water for me too. I've heard the old tallow based version is legendary. Sadly I'm too late.

    For several months my go to has been my Rex razor and the Mitchell’s Wool Fat. I get a great shave and my face feels mighty fine afterwards. For balm I rotate daily between Proraso white, Tabac original and Sterling. The Mitchell’s Wool Fat has been very good for my dry skin. Finally I may have found my go to combo. Matt thanks for your business and these informative videos.

    The Variant OC is my first and only open comb razor and interestingly it’s became my favorite razor. Which surprised me because I don’t have particularly tough skin and actually experienced irritation with other closed comb razors like the Pearl Flexi. I usually vary the setting depending on growth, but I haven’t gone above 3, then dial it down to a 2 or 1 for a second pass. I guess it’s a YMMV thing. Haven’t tried MWF, not a huge fan of hard pucks, I’m really enjoying the Razor Emporium and Rex croaps right now. Beautiful lather.

    After shaving with so many razors over the past few years, I know that my skin type is beyond sensitive (the Karve Overlander, Razorock Mamba 70, and Henson Mild are my preferred razors) so after trying more aggressive razors like the Rex Envoy and Rockwell T2, I know the Variant isn't for me at all. Also Matt mentioned, "I can smell the badger" when referring to the brush, and for me, it took me a while to understand how to tone down that scent WITHOUT using the brush on my face. I just do a bowl lather with a menthol / citrus / fruit based soap and leave the brush in the soap for about 1-2 hours, stirring the soap around every 15-20 minutes...then I wash the brush out and if there's still a scent, I do ANOTHER bowl lather with the same soap (for another few hours) and normally after that second sitting in the soap, the scent is pretty much gone or massively reduced.

    Yep, wool fat soap will never be the same.
    At least they removed the "original 1893 formula" stuff from their sticker, which was an insult to any consumer's intelligence.

    Good shave Matt, I had the Parker variant straight guard and it’s a bit more aggressive on all settings compared to the Merkur progress, great razor but opted for the progress.

    Great Vid Matt,
    The Mitchell is great from my use of it. Wet face, rub on the soap, then boar badger brush (semogue) on soap puck the face lather. Oustanding with or without preshave. Works well with straight or DE razor for me, and the puck lasts. I use other soaps and creams as well, however Mitchell is a regular choice.
    Have Konsul and Ambassador, not tried Parker variant. Sounds like an interesting razor though, esp in open comb.
    Thanks and cheers

    Hi Matt great shave Video and a lot of information for newbies 😊.
    I have no problem with any way of lather making now. But for beginners I would face Lathering! recommended!
    My new favorite is the Italian style of lather. They hold the brush directly on the hair and it comes out completely different. Simply awesome!

    My face and beard are fairly light and sensitive, so maybe this razor is not for me. Besides, I love my vintage Gillettes. But great to see how you lathered the Mitchell's...everything I've read indicated it was so hard to lather. You proved that wrong!

    Hi Matt. I am From Portugal. I Have The Parker Variant, and Sensitive Skin. I Find that is a Agressive Razor. And use VosKhod Blades, my Favorite, for my Skin. And still find The Parker Variant Agressive, on 3 first pass, 2 Second Passe, and 1 or 1.5 last Pass. A Batale Park Variant, Vs Parker Variant Open Comb, is Nice? Thank you

    sure a very loud razor

    side. I think indian razors tend to be rough, such as Pearl

    Hey Matt! The Parker Variant and the Merkur Progress are very similar in design. Both work for me well. I have coarse hair, so a more aggressive shave is ok for me. The Variant is well built too! Thanks for reviewing it and the Mitchell's Wool Fat soap! JimG P.S Are you aware that the Rockwell 6S has a 10 year anniversary edition out plated in 24kt gold? Would your company be able to plate a standard 6S in gold? It would save money for the consumer! The Rockwell Gold edition is only limited to 500 on release. I purchased mine directly from Rockwell.

      @RazorEmporium Maybe that would be a good selling point for you! If some one wants to purchase the gold plated 6S from Rockwell and they are sold out, you could indicate that consumers could just have you replate their standard 6S at a portion of the $250 price tag!

    Hi Matt, Thanks for another very informative video. I’m not into super aggressive razors, so that model of the Parker will be a hard pass for me. I’m of two minds about Mitchell’s Wool Fat - I still have the soap from before they changed the formula, and I liked that one very much. However, since Mitchell’s changed their formula, the soap is just OK for me. Since the puck lasts for a long while, I still use it, but now I cut it in half and use it as a pre-shave soap.

    If you ever decide to do an ASMR video, I'd suggest the Mühle Rocca or a GEM 1912. The Rocca is the most pleasant sounding razor for me, but the GEM 1912 is nice and loud. It adds to the total sensory experience.
    For what it's worth, I don't find the Ambassador/Envoy to have all that much blade feel compared to most modern razors. I'm not sure where that reputation comes from, but I think people have an expectation based on what they've heard.

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Exactly 💯

    • @brianh2287
      @brianh2287 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree with your statement on the Rex Ambassador. I avoided purchasing the Ambassador for a couple years due to it's reputation for being aggressive. One black Friday sale I could not resist purchasing the razor. The Ambassador truly adjusts from mild to aggressive, but it is smooth on every setting. I do one pass on 6 and touchup on setting 3 for a VERY FAST BBS shave. Also, the Rex blades are a perfect match for my Ambassador. The Rex Ambassador is not my favorite razor, even over my Konsul. I need more practice with my Konsul because it is deceptively efficient. The razors are expensive, but the craftsmanship FAR exceeds any other razors on the market IMO.

    I’m still new to the wet shaving thing, I’ve figured out how to get a good lather with a local made soap, but it seems to dissipate on my face by the time I finish one cheek, not sure if it’s the soap or something I’m doing wrong, obviously it’s hard to make recommendations without seeing what I do, but any tips would be greatly appreciated before I write off the soap .

    Hi Matt, your channel got me into wet shaving, but occasionally I get these ingrown hairs that develops into a white pimple and by the next day it would have swollen into a cyst full of pus. I've done all I can including having a hot shower before the shave, soaking the brush so it is nice and soft ready to go after my shower, never shave against the grain, cold blade but everything else hot to minimise irritation, using an alum block after shaving, etc. I'm running out of options, and really prefer not returning to an electric shaver. Any ideas?

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      100% cold water shave. Stop using alum. Try it for 10 days and report back.
