For the love of god, PLEASE build these tables on wheels with stops, so you can switch tables out and move stuff around to access the ceiling for maintenance.
Yes it means more legs, but then you could wheel them out of the way and not have to crawl around on the floor, ESPECIALLY when you’re older and not wearing out your back and knees, this city should last you twenty years, think like that.
As a LEGO builder over 50, I can second this recommendation. As an employee with recent experience with a leaky workplace roof, I can second this recommendation a second time. As a viewer of the video in which the leak in the ceiling was found, I can second this recommendation a third time. 🙂
I saw people suggesting that in earlier vlogs. Tables on wheels would also remove the need for any popup holes as table could be moved to get to inner parts. The bigger the city gets the less practical climbing under it is.
Jordan
Just a suggestion. You have a huge amount of space for the city. Do not put in the boards that mean you have to climb underneath. You might need them later, a lot later but start without them. It will make everything a lot easier.
But you could also build some monster Lego bridges for vehicles and trains to go over these gaps.
I model railways and I would advise looking at train layouts for inspiration. There are some great layouts with underground stations also.
Take care and all the best to you.
I also do model trains and I couldn’t agree more with this!
The only thing that’s been on my mind since the beginning is the shutter. The outside is level with the inside. Most habitable spaces have a 150mm step up for bad weather. It’s also why spaces like this are left without floor finishes. I’d want some buffer that end in case it floods which I’d say is possible to probable. Or at least make the first two rows movable?
With the size of that spac3, and possibly needing access to the roof for repairs or issues with lights or the hester, wheels on the table legs may be a great idea so you can easily move tables without having to remove the lego off them. Will also make accessing the middle parts easier.
Oh my god , I knew the city was going to be big but didn't realise how big. It's going to be totally Awesome. I'm so excited can't wait to see the end product. I love watching this channel x
This is going to be great, but I think as many others, that you will be thankful for doing an extra assessment on this with wheels on tables and planning out how sections will work so you can make access easier, and moving parts of the city easier if you need to access the roof. Write a pro/con list, get some inspiration from how model railroaders work with large spaces like your own. I know you want to do stuff your way, and I also think that you should do that, but I think you will benefit from at least doing a pro/con list to at least double-check your own decision.
I do model train building and what we do is we have the sections we pop up at have a cover or on a hinge. For instance the one of the openings could be where a road or park is. So when yiu are not working in that section its seemless but when you need to work there it can just be taken out or dropped down
You can use the wasted boards for raised platforms and lower platforms for caves, ocean and subways
I guess I missed the reasoning behind have half-baseplate spacer table measurements in the access hole sections. Looks like you're using 6.5--7--6.5 baseplate dimensions, but 7--6--7 dimensions provide the same baseplate area without the odd half baseplate on the inside edge of the two outer spacer tables. It seems like using whole baseplate dimensions would yield more flexibility in the layout, but maybe I missed something--is the half-baseplate dimension necessary for your planned layout? Sorry if this question has already been answered and I just missed where it was discussed.
It's amazing how much easier cutting or building things can be when you've got the right tools. The track saw is perfect.
All that scrap will be perfect for custom shelves. Under the stairs, or along the front wall of the city room, in the garage at home, wherever. My dad built some out of scrap melamine boards back in the early 90's and they worked great for 20+ years until they moved out of the house. The stuff lasts forever.
Same with using a measuring tape properly! 😂
After putting those down. The sketch looked big but wow. In reality it's immense. So much room to go wild with your builds
Hi Jordan, ironing on the abs edging will add a millimetre or two to the tables dimensions so if you plan to attach Lego to the sides to create subways or underground sections please bear that in mind. Might be worth doing a small experiment with the scrap before you commit to more table cutting and ironing on the edging.
So if I’m not mistaken each sheet has the dimensions too exactly the with and length of a mills plate “section” wouldn’t it make sense to make the outer sheets movable? Like with drawer slides. This way you can open and close the holes if you are either working on it or displaying it. It would make the city more alive without some gaping holes in it. Just don’t put fragile Lego pieces on the movable section
That's actually smart.
Super pumped that you're so close to setting up the city tables! Next thing you know it, there will be a city on them!
Imagine having the LEGO to fill that amount of tables, living the dream..
It’s getting closer to the LEGO City getting back up on new tables!
for the melamine "scrap", you could buy a few casters and screw them right under melamine pieces you then use it as cart you can put under you table for storage and will be easy to use
you can also cut some of the waist areas and make the under table train areas or Subways And also maybe add in some sewer areas for other scene areas
To me. It looks like there is plenty of room for expansion. I agree with the wheels on some of the tables. maybe the end smaller tables. This will be a great aide when you are older. But it is your studio and we are all just people who watch. If it is what you want then go for it.
Now seeing the tables cut and the laid out. This city is going to be absolutely massive lol.
You could make a winding river through the whole city, and where there is water, you can make your access points to the inner parts of your city!
I remember when i was in 3rd grade in school, i had an friend that had an small legocity in his parents basement ( not big as yours!) And i thougt it was soo cool to come down there and play! This was like in 1982 🙂
And now, to see you Expand your city in the new location! Really Cool!
I love sketchup. I used it for creating floor plans for my business, and once you get the hang of it it's so fun to use!
Hi Jordan, how are you?
I am Alexandre from Brazil. I’m a huge fan of Lego and I just love your channel!
I’ve been following you for a long time now… I remember when you posted a video saying that you were going to quit your job to dedicate yourself 100% to Lego! Just awesome! And look at you now, incredible things have happened! Congratulations!
I had the opportunity to have a larger space, dedicated to Lego. It was an empty room in my wife's office. She had this big empty room and asked me if I would like to use it as a Lego studio! Of course, I accepted, and it was an incredible period!
I'm passionate about Lego and its different themes. At the time I started building my city and I remember thinking about somehow integrating different themes like a modern city with the medieval period, Star Wars, etc. But I didn't have chance to implement it because about a year later my wife had to move the office to a smaller location and I was left without my studio.
So, my idea was to create different districts in the city dedicated to different themes. They would be separated by hills or fences, or some energy walls (using transparent bricks) and integrated by portals, or some type of check point, something like you would see on the borders between countries.
The idea would be for some characters (minifigs) to have freer and more common access to these neighborhoods, for example the Ghostbusters, or Dr. Strange, some characters from Harry Potter... They would have free access to these different districts. So sometimes these districts, "small worlds" would meet, for example a spaceship parked in a city skyscraper, or a dinosaur attacking a castle...
This would be a way of telling a story and that gave meaning to these different but at the same time close worlds (in the same layout).
From what I've been following on your channel, I imagine your idea would be to use entire table in the city, which would be epic!
But if you think about integrating some different themes into the layout, I think these themed neighborhoods could be an idea. Of course, you would use most of the space for the city, but there could be some small districts dedicated to different themes.
Anyway, it was just a suggestion, an idea, and I'm sure what you're planning will be amazing!
Keep up the great work and once again congratulations for the excellent work!
Alex
That's a really neat idea and would be a fun way to integrate some fun themes and mischief.
This city is gonna be huge! I am so excited for the city to come back bigger and better!
Bricksie, water-wall, as in beach or water cliff by the sea.
Basically, a lower main plate with the scrap table at normal table height.
Lets you build a underwater setting, right in your table edge.
Would mean modifications to your table supports and knowing where you want the water front(s) to be.
Exciting! It's going to be big! Can't wait to see what you build.
Those tables are looking BIG! Good idea so you use the lego to measure it and not make a mistake with so many plates you will saw. It will be fun for you to really start putting the lego in the new position for your lego city. But we know you will be changing and changing the city too. And that is of course the fun part lego that you can change your build easy into something completely something else or just how you want it to be. Have fun! 👍
You can make a bar in the pool room perfect way to use some of the wood you have laying around.
Im excited to see all the new landscaping and city layouts. I think its going to be truly amazing and as you develop new areas, its just going to get getting better and better❤
Great idea with the actual base plates as your templates! There are always the littlest deviations and using the actual plastic plates will help with 'true' sizing the tops. Be safe and well!
Hope to see that peak amusement park layout again with the go-karts. It was amazing!
My knees are hurting just looking at that diagram.
The cloud looks amazing
The posibilities with the lego city will be endless. How long have do you think it will take to finish the city of your dreams/vision? I feel live it will always continie to evolve and won't be "complete" ever and that's great, more videos 😊
good job cutting all those boards straight! ive always had a problem ripling full sheets of plywood wood with a circular saw. Also you might be able to cut the boards yourself. 1) obtain a plywood trolly/cart [its a small unchannel with a wheel caster on the bottom] 2) place a piece of sacrificical insulation board on ground then trolley over the full sheet mdf. 3) make your cuts like you did on the saw horses.
this way you avoid hurting your back.
You could always save leftover boards for future shelving or tables? Worst case you could likely resell or trade them to others via whatever local marketplace app is in your area. They look big enough that other hobbyists might want them for their smaller setups.
THIS!! I wonder how easy it would be to attach Ikea legs to the "scrap" pieces? Never know when he might need a small table for reviews or whatnot.
It's great to see your thoughts coming to life.
Seeing the tables allows us to envision what you have planned. It is going to be epic!!! You will have plenty of space to move around, so I love that you are maximizing the city. Going to look like a dream!
The new place looks big, but seing the base plates on the melamine... wow thats going to be a massive Lego city!! Oh my
Awesome! Midnight here in Australia & a new Bricksie video drops!!
Bro has a huge space but still wants to crawl....
Happy you are using the lego sheets to measure 😃I remember that being frustrating for you in the past!
So excited for tables!
I can’t wait to see your Lego city updates again!
For cutting the melamine, if you get a big sheet of xps foam you could put that under it and cut. Then you don't need to lift the piece so high. If you flip the piece over it can also help with tear out.
@Bricksie You Could Put A Wooden Lip Around The Edge Of The City / Access Holes Too Keep The Baseplates In Line And Also Stop The Twins From Pulling The Plates Off The Edge Of The City Or Anyone Brushing Past To Stop Any Damage Happening
That is a good idea, the only downside that comes to mind is it could be hard to get a MILS plate out if they are "locked" with a border if it is a really exact fit as it appears based on the cuts here.
I love it when a plan comes together.
You should get a rough estimate how how many pieces your Lego collection is at, and get a digital sign for the studio with how many Lego pieces are there, and then update it as you add sets
That’s a great idea! Like a population sign when you enter a town/city!!
@@StacksOnBricks awesome idea. He could have a separate mini figs city count!
The title is fairly accurate but I think you can go home after you go big haha, things are coming along well! 😊
It’s happening! 🎉 Amazing to see the scale the new city will be! Looking great!
get a laser level it work way better than any level
Can't wait to see it, it would be dope to build some rising and lowering bridges over some of the gaps you use to pop up in to build different parts of the city.
love the table look can't wait to see you build the new and big lego city layout keep up the amazing work👍
Good measure method to ensure no tape measure error
Imagine being crazy rich and doing whatever you wanted with your life.
Bricksie living the life, 99.9% of us wished we could.
😊 little by little it's getting close to see the new city layout come about. Can't wait to see the new idea builds and city additions. 😎🤙🏻
Thought, if you will have those open spots in the final build, may I suggest creating a adventure sink hole like so many South American areas.
I’d go the extra mile and get leveling hardware to install on all the legs of the tables. Though time consuming, the install itself is very easy but then can make sure city is dead level with a turn of a wrench
Can’t wait for the rest of the city videos🙃
The tables are MASSIVE!!! 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
maybe you could use the some of the spare malamine to box in the vent you mentioned about covering it before. Could clean it up quite nicely
For the pop up holes in the tables, have you thought about making them ponds/lakes/bodies of water that could be lifted up or down and out of the way if you wanted to pop up in that area?
Can’t wait for more videos of more progress!! The city is what we have been waiting for the most!! You are awesome Bricksie thanks for always inspiring us! 😊
It looks like you could go a little longer even on the end piece. Maybe one or two more baseplates even!
You have enough room to build a subway system, using the narrower melamine dropoff pieces under the tables.
Just a thought.
You could use the off-cuts to make shelving if you need it. There is always going to be some waste, no matter how you carefully plan it.
I love using my track saw
If the tables are one wheels u wouldn’t need the gaps and can have one large city table which rolls apart to get to the centre
Wow! Nice!!!!
I don't know man! I think you need a bigger space!
I cant wait to see the New, bigger city!❤
track saws are so amazing lol life changing.
Super exciting Jordan!
When it comes to actually building the Lego city, a good tip would be to make a flat Lego boarder that goes around all the baseplates on an edge, just to make the city look a lot neater and so it doesn’t just seem to end abruptly :)
Love!!!!
This video really put into scale how massive this city will be, jesus...
You could always sell it off the cut off you don't use, I'm sure someone will take it off your hands or use it for extra shelving in those big wardrobes.
Yeah that’s a clever idea instead of buying extra ikea shelf’s at $25 for each one! 🤣
Bricksie! I am loving what I am seeing so far, I am showing this to the boys when they get back from school. Keep up the great work!
wow that's look big
I know you have the dimensions figured out (I've seen your CAD diagrams in the videos and watched every video of the new space renovation), but if the amount you're trimming off the ends is coverable by baseplates of the right sizes, you might not want to bother with the additional cutting, as long as you still have enough room along the sides of the space to get by. But I can see how getting assembled buildings (especially things like the ski hill and the mansion) into the city will require every bit of elbow room you can get.
Any thoughts on maybe adding some heavy duty casters so the tables can roll around for ease of moving if ever needed?
Pretty sure someone at a local hardware store or lumber yard is available to help you cut them to size for a reasonable price.
Have you thought about putting the tables on casters? Since it’s just lego on them you wouldn’t need heavy duty ones to save on cost. But with tables that size may pay off if you need to reposition them in the future.
Woodworking tip: a safer and easier method to cut sheet goods is on pink insulation sheets on the ground rather than propping them up on saw horses. The foam is sacrificial so you can cut into them.
It’s coming along - excited to see the next video.
Yep 2” rigid foam for the win! Minor cost
Epic, this is going to be epic!
oh man, you left that dangerously close to the garage door. I sure hope you have dry weather and no water runs under that garage door. I can't wait to see the city on full display.
6 inches away. It'll be fine.
Why don't you just use the leftover wood for skeleton structures of future creations. I see a lot of people filling them up with Lego, but that just seems a bigger waste.
You probably cannot wait to post your video on LOTR Barad-Dur tower set 10333.
Very exciting! If selling the scrap isn't a plan that will work for you, a local high school might take it for their industrial arts shop. Thanks for all these updates!
I’m wondering if it would make sense to make the tables with corridors initially at least. Similar to how you altered the city in the basement a while ago. You could then fill in the spaces (like you did with the basement city) when you need to. Otherwise I fear for your knees!
That's why I'm making it modular style, I'll always have that option
@@Bricksie really looking forward to seeing your progress. My wife and I are deciding what to do with the Lego in our house. I’m looking at converting my garage into a Lego room.
If you turn the sheets upside down you won't get the chipping
The new studio tables layout will look
You have enough room to build a subway system, using the narrower malamine under the tables.
Just a thought.
Yes, the subway will use up the scraps as well
@@Bricksie😊👌💥awesome
Just out of curiosity why did you decide to have it 7 baseplates long? Looks like if you didn't cut the boards to that length could have atleast 9 baseplates long.
Some people buy food. Some people spend their money on rent or medicine. And some folks go wall-to-wall LEGO.
I really think you need to take a day, or two, off. I know you’ve measured things and I know you’ve planned out how many tables go here and there but just pause for a moment. You have waited and worked for this massive opportunity and here you are rushing to get it done and yet I’m not sure if you fully comprehend what you have, space / opportunity wise. You say the size of the walkways are comparable to a domestic corridor. You aren’t in a domestic building, and you may need something bigger than a corridor. What’s the point of planning under the sea / underground trains / stations etc if you have to crawl to see them? You seem to be rushing to do MORE than you could in your old space but in exactly the same way. This space allows for much more than that.
I hope on a really big train track on the whole table
Why not use bigger part of the sheets instead of cutting of so big pieces? Looks like you can get 2 more baseplates out of the offcut.
Hey Bricksie Ive been following your journey and Im jealous you’re completing most of our childhood dreams! Good luck buddy keep working hard I am binging this content haha jk!
Haha I was about to recommend Sketchup...and then 2 minutes later you have it. Awesome. I love sketchup
