I can see them doing master-duel retrains of some of yuga and yudias’s cards so they can all play the same format. And then have those cards be a part of the movie pack

I theorycrafted how to potentially make Rush Duel cards keep their identity in the main format and the idea would be a potential new summoning mechanic that could actually be used for a full anime series.
Rush Monsters would be a monster type primarily for the main deck (but also could be ED monsters, like Pendulums) based on monsters from Rush Duel primarily but could be used for specific archetypes.
1. They have a Rush Rating between 0 and 5, and as long as the monster's Rush Rating is equal to or higher than your highest Rush Rating monster you can Rush Summon as many times as you want (which is treated as a Normal Summon). i.e. if you control two monsters with a Rush Rating of 0 and 2, you can Rush Summon monsters with 2 through 5, but if you want to summon a monster with a Rush Rating of 1 you need to use your normal summon.
2. The primary purpose of the Rush Rating is to implement the other Rush Duel mechanic of card draw. If, during your draw phase, you control a monster with a Rush Rating that is higher than the number of cards in your hand, you draw until you have that many cards instead of simply drawing 1. This pulls double duty of emulating the mechanics of Rush Duel while also incentivizing keeping your Rush Monsters on board instead of simply slapping them into Extra Deck monsters.
These two rules are the only things I think would be needed to make a "Rush Monster" work in the main format, but there are a couple of things that might be overcomplicated that I would consider.
- Since monster removal is a huge hassle and Rush Monsters might expend too many resources, it might be better for the check to determine how many cards you draw to happen during your opponent's turn rather than your draw phase. This would mean if your monster with a Rush Rating of 5 gets destroyed that you wouldn't be left completely helpless with an empty hand.
- This issue could also be addressed by giving Rush Monsters protection from effects of monsters that do not have an equal or higher Rush Rating (sort of implementing how in Rush Duel a monster's level acts as a form of soft protection due to the card design featuring a lot of negative effects only working on monsters below a certain level) but this would be an iffy rule and might overcomplicate things. I know from Pendulum that any new mechanic would need to be relatively simple or risk being binned.
I always love it when they have crossovers in the game. Celina crushing Weevil, Jaden and Yusei using the gate to chase after Paradox, the Arc-V cast jumping into the 5DS turbo duel event. There's soo much potential left to explore and yet they've barely scratched the surface.
I hope we get a movie, but on the other hand a movie tied to the duel links mobile app would be gimmicky, so that's probably exactly what Konami will do. 😂

I think a movie would be a bit too big but an anime series based on Duel Links could work pretty well
Especially if it gradually goes across worlds, reintroducing the protags and their friends/rivals and their dueling before weaving them into the grander narrative
Oh I really want a duel links movie crossover that would be cool seeing all the protagonists together to defeat a villain or even a 10 episode short special I be okay with it

Maybe Bohman or Lightning tried to create someone, but was scrapped. Duel Links could have ended up bringing them to life and tried to connect the worlds and take over. I think it would be cool! I want a Duel Links movie so bad! Big cast, but maybe they could pull it off. Let all our protagonists meet!
While Yugi’s story technically ended, I wouldn’t mind seeing a grown up version, like he was in GX.

Back in the 5D's era, there was this special non-canon episode that showcases a duel between Yusei and Jack using the Assult Mode versions of their Signer Dragons.
Instead of a Duel Links movie, I think a series of special episodes like that would work better. Once you open the door for characters from different series to interact and duel with each other, there's going to be a huge wishlist of duels to go through. So a series of special episodes would be better instead of bloating the movie with too many duels that wouldn't have enough time to actually shine.
My personal wish for a Duel Links movie/series is seeing older characters using summoning methods that have been incorporated into their archetypes via legacy support in the OCG/TCG. Imagine Yugi with Xyz Dark Magician, Kaiba with Synchro Blue-Eyes, Aster with Link HERO, Zane with Xyz Cyber Dragon, Yuya with Ritual Odd-Eyes etc.
Honestly, I just want a YGO movie in general. It's been so long since we had one. I still go back to watch Bond Beyond Time and Dark Side of Dimensions. Those were such great movies. I imagine it would be difficult but I wish we could've gotten a movie for every YGO series, for OG, GX, 5DS and so forth. Doesn't even have to be like a crossover, just a simple movie in general for each series
If VRAINS is a part of the new movie, we need Revolver FINALLY needs to duel Yusaku with a new avatar and his other summoning methods.
Imagine if they put "us players" into the movie, like 2 different versions, the celebrity duel list would represent the people who play competitively, and make it high up in the KC Cup, while another character would represent just an average player who, by meeting these in anime protags in game, would learn to improve and gain some sort confidence in their dueling ability. A bit corny but I mean, isn't most of yugioh just that?
A yugioh crossover of this magnitude would be insane - 20+ years of characters and story leading up to that moment. I really hope it would be a series, just to be able to do the concept justice (since BBT was rather short as fun as it was). I'm also 50/50 on it - on one hand, it seems way too good to be true - but on the other hand, these Duel Links events have to be leading up to something crazy with all the teases and developments with every other character added for the past few years. Even Vrains' ending shot of Ai makes no sense in the context of its own show but makes complete sense in Duel Links lore - and that was a "setup" that was only paid off years later. So I think they're cooking something...
If feel like one movie wouldn't be enough if you have so many characters. A movie trilogy or a crossover series would be better than just one movie. I feel like something is going to happen though and I'm so excited! Even if it's just a crossover event in Duel Links, I just want all of these characters to meet lol
From what I remember, This thing started way back in Arc V when Declan was investigating Duel Links... He found out that the characters from other dimension are different from what is in the anime...
Also characters from Vrains as of now cannot go through other Yu gi Oh but Arc V characters can go and Interact to the other dimension...
First, with Gong and Jack, Yuya and Aster, Yuya and Kita duel in Duel Links during Arc V release(Although this is only said but not shown)
Second, The duel with Sawatari in Synchro Dimension with Security
And now Celina appears in Yu gi Oh DM and duel against Weevil
I feel Vrains and Arc V (Yuya and Declan) will be the main characters when they really made a movie. Cuz they are the only one noticed what's wrong in Duel Links.
If there is another YuGiOh movie I would totally be down for a 3 hour movie.
If it should be a bonds beyond time 2 movie is that they bring all yugioh series except sevens all together with all the past big villains coming back and join up to defeat the main characters with their joined duel strategies along with a new enemy with their own deck with all summoning styles.
This would be amazing as a show, or even like Dragon Ball Heroes with WHAT-IF duels that can happen in Duel Links. Like Atem vs Yusaku
I think a multiverse/Duel Links movie would do really well! The main questions I would have is, would they include Sevens and Go Rush characters in the movie? And, and probably more importantly, Who animates it? Do they bring back Gallop, is it Bridge or could it be a colab project between both Gallop and Bridge animating it? Or, does a completely different studio take on the project? Either way, I think we are heading towards a multiverse type of movie! But then again, Konami could surprise us all, and make it an entire anime series! At this point, it seems all options are on the table now!

Honestly i agree with most of what you have said. but the question then become, if they do it, wich studio will handle it ? how many voice actors/actress from all the main shows can they make return for their respective roles ? how to include Sevens in this ? etc etc...
You could have a movie where one of the protagonists puts the millennium puzzle back together again and wishes to duel the greatest duelist of all time. And it brings Yugi from the past into the future. And the whole movie can be about Yugi trying to get back to he's time line. Or him trying to get back to his dimension which actually would be a way to get Yugi into a new.
I mean for me I would want a 2 parter movie with a tournement between every protagonist,main rivals, and just fan favorite characters
If this is going to happen, I want a trilogy anime series, not a movie. A trilogy anime series would be more than enough for the crossover to be done justice and be properly executed.
However, it's not necessarily possible to bring back the old art style. Even if it was, voice actors are another complication. Who would be willing to come back for their roles after so many years? Replacing voice actors in Japan is extremely rare from what I've heard.
If we get another movie, I think it will be exclusively for the Rush Duel format.
What we saw in Duel Links could be setting up for a massive event within Duel Links, not a movie or anime series, but we'll see what's announced at JUMP Festa next month.
I think instead of a movie how about a Duel links Anime where we have multiple seasons which will allow all the characters to shrine to their fullest.
A series would be way better than a movie for this concept bc there's so many different duel match ups that we NEED to see that there just wouldn't be room for in a 2 hour movie
I'd be down for a Duel Links type of movie. I would do a slight tweak with your idea, though. Have the big Thanos level boss as a split from Kaiba. This would mean that Kaiba has an evil twin giving allusion of evil Bakura due to him being in the Egyptian afterlife to face off against Atem. That evil Kaiba would then would have the multiverse invasion which would involve Duel Links and all protagonists have to duel him. Aside from this talk, I too have a New Jersey Devil Squishable. I noticed that in your background. Also, tomorrow is AnimeCon for me. I'll be able to meet Wayne Grayson there. I don't expect him to know anything but I'm excited to meet him! 😁
I really love the idea of a duel links movie and even a lore anime so much. I like rush duel but I think I'm just ready to move on from it since I would rather want a mature plot and story again. I also feel like in order to fit the popularity of anime today, it would be appreciated if they stepped outside of their comfort zone and do a duel links crossover or a lore anime based on Sky Striker for example. This is the 25th anniversary of the CARD game after all and I can see Yu-Gi-Oh 9 being based on card lore in an anthology similar to how Star Wars: Visions was like being animated by different studios. And while some people may think my theory is lacking, I actually believe in them a whole lot 😅.
It really would be great to see a new Yu-gi-oh movie now adays. Sure we're currently in the Rush Duel era, but imagine having a sequel to Bounds Beyound Time, or a movie similar to DSOD with the other yu-gi-oh shows to cap off their stories whether their cannon or not is a fun idea, and Duel Links is excelltent stepping point to introdue this idea.
The only issue (and possibly main issue) is how restrictive the higher-ups want to overbloat Duel Monster nostolgia as much as possible to be involve in the movies writing as a whole, but then again it's also about how their not commited with a new movie.
I think they confirmed Kaiba Corp's involvement. One of the Arclight brothers events mentions Kaiba Corp being involved with Duel Links. Unless they are building up two threats, I think we can assume that was them confirming that. If it's Kaiba or someone else running things who knows.
Honestly hope for an actual series that leads to a movie. Lots of potential here!

But we have the PRIME universe in which we have our main summon mechanics to be the most important.

Im really hoping they do something special with this storyline like a movie or series. Not only will Konami benefit through money and exposure, but think about what this could mean for the yugioh fandom. We will be swarmed with content and more people would be talking about it, eventually looping back at Konami for a newer audience. Who knows what we'll get or what Konami will do and it'll be a missed opportunity if they don’t do anything with this. I know not to get super hyped but...

Plus, if you think about it, I think a perfect villain, for Duel Links would definitely be either like an evil twin brother or alternate version for Kazuki Takahashi under a different name!

Super easy, doesn't need any weird explanation at all. Like BBT it made sense but they had to pull alot of brand new story elements to make it work
The Celina event confirmed that Zuzu still has the other bracelet girls within her and that duel links somehow spawned a new version of Celina with all but her final memories

As far as bridging the different seasons together, they could do something similar to Gundam did with their build fighters series. Could be just pure fan service duels or hell, with Vrains they could just use that as a base for Duel Links like worlds of all the past seasons. I'd love a mini series or movie with that with all their nostalgic decks with modern support or at least modernish.
If they are smart they could do another bonds beyond time situation having yuma yuya and yusaku together but i doubt it as yusaku is old news by a mile and the movie would be something different like actually finishing the story instead of leaving yusaku broken
It was perfectly handled with yusei being in between the story and that was especially hype to see yugi jaden and yusei duel together which was very legendary.
And they could do a multi part movie as well since we won't want it to rush through everything in one go unless they can, it'll be crazy either way...... hopefully they play better than the auto duel ai
I want a good yugioh show. With good animation and more mature(/better written) plot. I feel vrains could’ve been so much better

I like the idea of a Duel Links movie, but with so many characters that could appear in it, if it where to happen, I think it would be better to make a duel links anime having this multiverse plot so we can get characters from all the worlds interact with each other and have a decent amount of screentime so it doesn't feel rushed in a 2 hour film.Something similar to ARC-V, but actually good
Dylan, and everyone else, I’m curious, how would you guys feel if there would be Yu-Gi-Oh! animated feature done by a North American animation studio would go and exist? For me, I think Sony Pictures Animation would be the best choice considering that they’ve been taking a lot more creative risks and earning great animation achievements in the past several years ever since the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. What do you guys think?
I would be so DOWN for this! My problem with it though… there are sooooooo many characters, and if you want them all to be done justice, I don’t think even just a five hour movie is enough. What might need to happen is maybe an entire saga of movies that’s longer than Harry Potter. I would absolutely LOVE this, but it’s a lot of work.

It’s crazy the character the show is named after is important. I think we need a Yu-Gi-Oh live action trilogy, covering duelist kingdom, battle city & the Egyptian arc, perhaps, with a GX twist. Also, wouldn’t mind a retelling of the original manga using links as the new format?
So personally I do think we should get a new movie at some point. I think the recent Duel Links event has to lead to something and that it would have to be a movie. I think a 5 hour Yugioh movie would make sense if all the main protagonists are involved and if they’re being given an equal amount of screen time. Though I’m not sure how many people would be willing to sit through a 5 hour Yugioh movie.
Crackpot theory for the main antagonist of this hypothetical movie- -Darknite/Nitemare, the creator of the Shadow Games, and final boss of *many* of the old Yugioh video games.
It crazy at first, but there's already a precedent of him showing up as the mastermind behind a virtual world plot (Falsebound Kingdom), and if it's a follow-up from DSoD, you could make the argument that he followed Kaiba out of Ancient Egypt somehow, from the end of that movie. For newer fans, you'd have this new, big, multiversal threat, while older fans would be able to appreciate a character from older Yugioh media being adapted to the main continuity.

To the Yugi point the answer is simple as to how you bring him back, DSOD is manga canon only hence only ending Yugi's story in the Manga. We could easily have movie upon movie for the next few decades with Yugi of the Anime Canon chronicling his Adventures between DM and GX.

Movie no. Mini series yes.
Ep 1. New villain takes over duel links. Recruits like 8 villains from each series and massively upgrades decks with other summoning methods. Protagonist and Rivals/Friends/Girls are all united.
Ep 2-9. Protagonist and one other duelist duel a villain from a different series 2-1.
Ep 10. The Final episode is a 7-1 Duel against the big bad boss, Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V style. Two protagonist arrive at a time to fight the big bad, they lose but each makes a few significant plays, leaving cards on the field and in the graveyard. Then DSOD Yugi comes in and pulls it all together in some insane combo and as he reveals the cards from the other protagonist, you see clips of the protagonist/friends/rivals from that series standing behind him in support.
It would be cool to have a movie where Yuma Yuya and Yusaku meet which would be cool because all three of them unlike the previous three live in three completely different future with Arc v and Vrians using a bit of XYZ but mostly their new summoning
They are the total opposit in personality but i think they will get along so will yusaku could be yuma's and yuya's big brother figure because he is older then them
I hope that if it’s a reality that at some point the playmaker/yusaku identity gets exposed like if it was a interdimensional duel to see naoki reaction or see yusaku finally getting credit and end his loner life

i mean otes was seperated from his earthdammar when he traveled through time so kaiba might have been (also makes a bit more sense if sevens is involved in the movie which it probably is)

I would willingly sit in a theatre for 5+ hours for any Yugioh movie
Honestly, what if the villain IS the gate? A villain that connects various worlds together, to connect minds together into some sort of hivemind obsessed with duel monsters, where nothing else matters but dueling. The Gate has understanding of each character’s decks, strengths and weaknesses and can spit out a copy of a duelist with a strong matchup against them, an enemy from their past, or even a copy of their opponent to use as a puppet.
A GX movie is a must
Not getting my hopes up after thinking Sevens was going to be a multiversal show where Jaden time traveled back, met Joey, lent him Superpoly, we got to see Joey beat Yugi to win his Red eyes back using Dark Dragoon, etc. but I wouldn't mind another Yugi movie. I do want something more along the lines of Bonds Beyond Time though to see more characters.
My pitch is the next Paradox is going through time stealing all the Kuribohs since OG Paradox failed stealing the powerful dragons. Yugi never hands Jaden Winged Kuriboh, winged kuriboh never gives Jaden his graduation duel, kuriboh never makes the rainbow blessing bridge so yugi loses to gansley, etc.

This is like the Persona Q series but with YGO cast I love it!
If we have a villain thats not kaiba i think yami bakura makes the most sense. He corrupted the cube at the end of darkside and its implied kaiba used the cube to go and duel atem, maybe a fragment of yami bakura survived (again) and is acting like some sorta cosmic parasite everyone needs to team up against at the end

Though I don’t think this DM bias is really as much of a thing, I mean they made Arc-V as a crossover of every series at the time except DM. That seems like the exact opposite. I’m still all for an every series crossover though

Honest I would love a Yugioh movie of dm vs gx. Jaden and chazz vs yugi and kaiba. Have the new gen win.
I honestly doubt this would be a movie... With a premise this expansive, and a potential cast this large, this would be best done as a miniseries. perhaps a series of short films with the focus on each series crew interacting with one other.
Perhaps 5D's interacting with Zexal (because low level swarm decks can Xyz just as well as Synchro, and GX interacting with VRAINS (because modern HERO decks use the Links as part of their combo plays).

The best villain for a movie like this would be a character like Kang the Conqueror. Someone with multiple different variations of themselves giving each hero/rival/girl/best friend a different Variant to duel against and the possibility of coming back always looming aka if they want to make sequels.
Seeing the protags interact with each other (and/or insult the hair) would be interesting.

I think everyone loved it when Z-arc was defeating so many people, so what if it was Z-arc who corrupted duel links, brought in all these duelists
