    FYI, I just noticed Firman recommends checking the oil by just inserting the dip stick in without screwing it in.

    My motorcycle does the same thing when draining the oil. Nice and clean until the flow slows down. I found I can wrap some aluminum foil around the area to keep the oil going where I want. Nice video! Thanks!

    A few people have recommended getting a Wen gna200 magnetic dipstick to catch the metal particles in the oil. It should be a exact fit.

      Thanks for the suggestion! I wondered if there was a magnetic dipstick, I'll have to look for that. Thanks for watching!!

    Man, I had a heck of a time starting the generator today. Looks like the screw on the carburetor was not tight. My lord. I wish I had found this video before I used a funnel and tilted the machine over to remove the oil. I guess, I should read the directions.

      Oh no! Sorry you had such a difficult time getting it started. The door for the oil is hard to see if you are not looking for it. Next oil change you'll be ready now! Thanks for watching!

    My old generator automatically stops if it's running low on oil. Does this one do that too?

    Does that oil pan and the leveling blocks come with the unit? Or did you have them from something else? Overall opinion of the unit?

    • @travelpawsrv
      @travelpawsrv  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had them all already from owning the RV and changing my own oil, they just fit perfect! haha Overall I am happy with the unit so far, I do not use it as much as some people do but so far it hasn't let me down!

    I thought they want you to use standard 10w30 or for under 40°F use 5w30 full synthetic and you have to change the spark plug?

      That’s true I was about to say that. There is a drawing showing taking oil measurements without screwing it in completely. So technically your oil level is lower than what it should be.

    • @columbiariversalmonenhance4050
      @columbiariversalmonenhance4050 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's worth a call to the manufacturer for confirmation. Tech writers are notoriously out of touch with engineers and often inaccurate in their writing. Especially Chinese engineers. Funny thing is if you put in the correct amount of oil... you should be at the correct oil level. Thus, I refer you back to my original thesis about tech writers... 😂 FWIW, I've owned lots of Honda power equipment engines and their clones... I always screwed in the dip stick to read it. That said... you can go 3/4 of a quart of oil here and be fine. Engine isn't going to explode... 😂

    • @BruhPlz
      @BruhPlz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@columbiariversalmonenhance4050 I verified with support and you’re not supposed to screw it in to read the proper oil level. If you’re screwing it in then your oil is slightly lower than recommended. Trust me I verified with Firman support.

    A little bit of metal?!
    On a new machine, change the oil at 15 minutes. Then, 30 minutes more. You'll get a very clear idea of how the break-in period is going. Change oil as needed. Remember, this is YOUR equipment, and you want it to last long term.

  • @nrnoble

    Thanks for the video. Just pick one up from Costco. Is changing oil every 25 hour typical for generators of this wattage? Seems a bit frequent. It would need to be changed every 1-2 days during an extended power outage or camping trip. Not sure how many hours it gets per tank, but I am guessing it requires changing the oil after every 2-3 tanks of gas.

    • @travelpawsrv
      @travelpawsrv  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! I'm not sure if 25 hours is typical. I had an older non inverter generator that I would change yearly lol. I agree 25 hours seems a bit excessive. Thanks for watching!!

      @@travelpawsrv. Hi, I don't own one of these but I'm doing some research in order to buy it. I thought the oil was supposed to be changed after the first 25 hours break in period and after that it should be changed every 100 hours, am I wrong?
      Thank you.

    Do you have to charge the battery before the first use? If so, do you have to charge it every so often?

    • @GeeDee3333
      @GeeDee3333 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't on my refurb unit - which also did not include the charger. Reading around the Web, I learned - 1) if you run your generator 1x month for 30 minutes (as advised by most generator mfgs), this should keep your batter charged, too. 2) it is recommended to use a battery maintainer which cycles on and off rather than the plug they included on new units. Harbor Freight has a Cen-Tech one for $10 with great reviews. You may already have one for cars/motorcycles/etc that get stored. On Amazon, you even find a barrel plug pigtail to make a cleaner setup by plugging your maintainer into the port where the charger is supposed to go on the control panel.

      @@GeeDee3333 That's what I did with my refurb unit. I already had a spare battery maintainer and a barrel plug. This is one case where my junk electronics hoarding paid off, lol!

      @@FourMypersonaluse It seems to work out to about 25 hours in a cars first oil change! I had to look it up, at about 50 mph, which is the average of my drives I'll say, that is about 1000 miles or so. He has been saying first oil change which is always lower than the rest of them. He even pointed out there was metal in the oil, which isn't common, but common on the first oil change, which is why it is changed so soon.
