Even though I experienced CFS as an adult, my favorite part of the interview was minute 10:00 about advice for parents of kids going through the illness. I know there are parents on the other end, too, who push their kids or dismiss them. But what any parent, friend, or loved one can do - which Sophie says so beautifully is allow those moments of joy, encourage time with friends within their zone, and really empower them to do what they can do - instead of trying to "Fix" them (or ignore them). I also love your discussion about labels. What Sophie says at the end about learning to live without the fight really resonated. I'm really looking forward to Sophie's research results on the impact of partners on CFS/Fibro recovery. So many gems in this inspiring interview!!
Thank you so much I'm glad you liked the interview 😊 and yes what's also not to ignore is how hard it is on the parents and the they might need support as well
@@ThePuzzleOfHealing Aye. I would imagine there is so much pressure on parents for their kids to be like the other kids, and scrutiny on them, too. And also the added physical and emotional demands. There is not much info on how to heal (glad this is beginning to change - like with Raelan's channel), but there's even less on how to support someone. I think it's so wonderful that you're raising awareness to change this!! ❤️❤️
And for the rest of the day I'm going to be like, "Where can I score some Cambo?" Sophie, thank you for your story! I got some good nuggets from you. Raelan, you so rock. I suspect you don't know how much positive energy you put into the world. You have created a community that supports all of us. You are giving hope to thousands of people. Thank you for sharing our story, dear Sophie! As a parent it was heartbreaking to hear what you and your family went through. At the same time it's magnificent to see the fire you've always had in you. 🔥 There were so many gems in this interview. Just hearing someone give words to what you're going through is comforting. The part about being afraid to show when you're feeling good was spot on. And not knowing anymore what it's like to live without a fight, to live normally. I hope to get at that place as well after 11 years. 🙏🏽
Thank you so much :-) it is though but from the sounds of it you are still persistent and that means there is hope and I wish you best of luck that you find your puzzle pieces to your recovery 🍀🌻
My goodness. I cried and laughed. This was an incredible interview. I'm in awe. So many emotions and caves of wisdom (I'm calling them caves cause there's so much in them to explore). I absolutely love the fact you are studying psychology, Sophie! Your perspective is so precious and painfully earned. I cannot wait to see the results of that qualitative study! Thank you again, Raelan for bringing pure gold into your channel. From the bottom of my heart thank you for sharing it all, Sophie!

Great interview! The part Raelan where you said " benefits of being sick" . I was just thinking of this today and think this is something that is holding me back. I desperately want to recover though. Any other tips on how to combat those type of thoughts?
Raelan has maybe more insights than me, but just going by the way I tackled other destructive thoughts I would suggest this: (it's a bit simplified) - start to really observe the pattern, when are those thoughts/feelings coming up? - what would your usual reaction to them be? - can you change that reaction and so something different about it? - take time to sit down and reflect on three thoughts/feelings/fears that might hold you back, what are they protecting you from? Do you still need that protections? What if they were gone at a snap what would that mean? What do you need to let them go/change? Some of those reflection exercises are better to do with someone else if you want to hear more feel free to reach out and I'm happy to explain them a bit more
I also would like to believe that the climate plays a role. I noticed that I am more debilitated during winter and last year in February, I went home to my birth place in the Philippines for a month and I did well, no crash noted during the whole month despite a busy schedule there, although, I also was cautious about overdoing things for fear of crashing.
