    As someone in Coconut Creek who's been working on learning fine woodworking, it's nice to know that it's a craft alive and kicking in this corner of south FL. Keep up the great work man!

    That stick spacer trick blew my mind. I've wrestled with that several times when cutting boxes...

    I am watching this video again. The jig for the latch was taped down onto the box and that took a lot of faith that it would not slip while the router was doing it's thing. That shows all experience comes great things.

    Awesome craftsmanship, the video was great with just enough detail squeezed in without making the video too long..... really liked the look of the hardware used

    re: chamfer at about 6:40. The chamfer removes the fragile corner wood that's inevitably going to be dinged and damaged. Removing it now prevents splinters later.

    Beautiful work! Can you tell us a bit more about the grooves for the panels? It looks like you cut grooves in both the sides and the panel. I expected a tongue cut on the panel. Is the bottom 'tongue' of the panel's groove floating inside the groove on the sides? Is that how you get the raised relief on the panel? And is it a different configuration on the bottom panel? I don't think I've ever seen a panel like that! GO GATORS!

    This is well done. Nice job. Normally one does not place a $5 set of plastic pieces in such a box. What set is going in there, and how would you prevent the pieces from eroding one another?

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The client told me they are called "Best Chessmen Ever." They look like a nice, high quality set. I don't think the box is going to see heavy travel, maybe a little bit. But I don't think the pieces rubbing on each other will cause any issues.

    YOU TALK!!?! It was nice to hear your commentary! Also, that box is gorgeous. But where was the brand? I love the brand!

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha. I do talk! Been giving the voiceovers a shot. The inside of the lid had a personalized engraving along with my brand but I didn't show it for privacy reasons. I'll be sure to get the brand in there soon!

    • @mattmorrisson9607
      @mattmorrisson9607 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, what I liked best about the commentary is the little details like what kind of finish you used, or why you did a seemingly decorative thing like chamfering the edge of the lid. Great stuff. By the way, where did you get your brand made? I'd like to do something similar

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks again Matt. I got the iron made from Terry at brandingirons (dot) biz. I have flame brand but would consider the electric version if I ever buy another.

    Another nice project, what is your source for the wood that you use?

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tim. Lately I've been getting most of my wood down in Miami from a place called Whittlesey Wood Products; its more of a large scale warehouse but they'll sell to small guys like us too.

  • @VaivaoReed
    @VaivaoReed 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi I was wondering where you sourced your latch? It’s really cool & Art Deco. Also please where you got your glue dispenser? I stumbled across your page after searching how to store my favorite chess pieces, (my grandpa’s) before my kids lose it by miraculously managing to open every drawer in the house. I immediately loved your craftsmanship!!!!!!

    • @parillaworks

      Thanks! The latch is from Brusso. The glue dispenser is called a glue bot.

    Great Box ! have 2 quick questions - Do you sale these? what's the best glue you'd recommend to attach felt to wood? I have some chess pieces I would like re-felt and a chessboard the bottom of which I'd like to cover with premium felt. - Thanks a lot

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I don't keep them in stock, but I do make them to order. Gluing felt is difficult because the felt wants to absorb everything. I ended up wrapping the felt over 1/8" hardboard using double sided tape to secure it. Then I glued the hardboard to the wood. You can use contact cement but like I said, the felt absorbs it so you may have to apply a few coats before securing everything.

  • @rickvanhooren548

    That is a great job. I see you use the Incra box joint jig?.. how would you rate it? I'm trying to decide if I should buy that one or try to make the Matthias Wandel version...

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Rick. It's a pretty good jig and easy to calibrate. I'm not super interested in building complex jigs that require precision. Though I think the Wandel version shines in batching out pieces. The Incra jig can't really do more than one piece at time.
