  • The Cowsills on each other. Cut footage from Family Band: The Cowsills Story.
Warning: This is a very rough cut from my beginning stabs at making a film. THIS WAS NEVER MIXED. I no longer have access to the individual tracks. My apologies. This cut was done years ago, using Final Cut 7. The sound varies in volume. I offer it here for your enjoyment.

Such lovely, talented human beings. They really all seem incredibly loving and kind, as well as very likable. Amazing, considering the cruelty they endured from their own father. I’m very happy that, at least, they were there for each other.

It's such a shame this footage was cut from Family Band as it gives so much insight into the interpersonal relationships and love between these siblings. As I watched it, I was blown away by the amazing talent and uniqueness of this family! I felt this footage presented them as overcoming the extreme dysfunction of their family life due primarily to their father. If ever a big-screen biopic needed to be made, this is it! The Cowsills are incredible! They are survivors! They are beloved!

I wanted the talent, the clothes and the dance moves every time their songs came on the radio goosebumps up and down, turn it up, no way up and sing along. I met Paul and Bob really over a zoom call when AROTR 2019 rerun that concert online last year on Halloween night. We talked about some musical groups when they hit the scene in 1967 and what were my top 5 groups then. They and The Beatles were at top of my list and I was in the seventh grade. They were what I thought they would be. Down to earth, genuine, and kind. They are the best. I have since talked to Susan and I can tell you I love everyone of them. And I probably have said this too many times people might think, but I can say that Susan is the best person I have ever known. I am proud to say that. And since meeting her she has been a blessing to me. You can imagine what they are like. Really really good people! I cannot say that enough!

Can you imagine how hard it was to lose a brother like that or to lose a mom like that? My family was kind of screwed up so it wasn't a big deal but these folks seriously love one another. When I think of how it broke my heart to lose a couple of Pit Bulls that were brother and sister, I think about how it must have felt to lose family members like they did that dearly loved each other. And not just one. My hope would be that God gives them peace here, and in the afterlife. RIP

When I first heard this family on the radio in the mid sixties and having seen them on tv then, anybody could see they were all so very special. Their singing seemed to be so natural and in tune with each other when you heard it, you would go "Wow they are really good." They are just a beautiful family in more ways than one. And I know I'm bias when I say this, but having seen Susan here as a baby, she was a pretty baby and a doll! One other thing too is that they all are so honest and personable. What happened to Richard is terrible. He probably felt like an outsider. Didn't fit in he thought. And inside you can almost hear him saying "where do I go from here." Richard was not treated right and I have always felt bad for him. If given a decent chance he might would have been a good musician also. I have always had respect for each one. They are all special in their own ways.

Wow! I've just been watching some of these videos of The Cowsills lately and the memories are flooding back of my childhood!! Of me riding my schwinn banana seat bike with my transistor radio taped to my handlebars so i could listen to music!! The one song i remember hearing, a LOT, was "The Rain, The Park and Other Things"! See, i didn't know, for a long time, THAT was the name of the song! I just remember hearing (and singing along to) "flower girl"! So, i thought that was the name of it!! Haha! Jist riding around the neighborhood on my favorite bike listening to The Cowsills and (another favorite singing group/duo) The Carpenters! "The Rain, The Park and Other Things", brings back such great memories of my childhood in the small town i grew up in!! Had no idea of the troubled life the Cowsills had! Didn't know that a few of them had passed away. So sorry for their loss. Thanks for the memories and i hope to get the chance to see some of them perform in person one day! 19:00 "we judge the shit out of each other"
True & sad. Parents reputation didn't stand a chance.
Where is the love? Maybe that's the key.
Maybe early success, arrogance, or combination...excludes love enough to lead to animus and unforgiveness, judgement, etc.??
Either way, I'm sad that Bill and Barry are gone prematurely.
Sad that they couldn't find a way to continue and excel as a family and as an extremely gifted family of musicians.
The Rain, the Park and Other Things remains one of the incredibly great songs in my opinion. Bill's voice in it is extraordinary and Bob's voice is a very nice replacement.
The song captures the essence of this family.
So close to happiness, yet it seems to elude. Happy for a moment, then....
Just like the magical flower girl made you happy and one day she was gone.
Thanks for allowing my vent...love the Cowsills. May God bless them all.

Thanks for posting - I just kept my volume control handy, but it was worth watching. I grew up with this band, but never had an iota of what they were about. They have earned my respect upon closer examination of their music - especially watching and listening to them live, as I originally learned about The Cowsills by reading Tiger Beat as a kid. They're all so talented and in individual manners, but that blend of harmony that a family gets (as with the Wilsons and Everlys before them) is something wonderful.Billy's bands in Canada were groundbreaking Americana music, before that label was even being used - The Cowsills could have even been better if Dad hadn't of screwed them up so much.

Thanks Louise for this great video. Great interviews, photos. The Cowsills played a key role in my youth memories. I would allow their happy harmonies to fill my room, while staring into an album cover, wishing myself into the photograph. Of the brothers, Barry was my favorite. And after meeting and talking to him in 1968, I realized he was an awesome person. I felt so blessed. The whole family was beautiful, and so talented. John such a gifted drummer, and Susan, can't say enough. Thanks again Louise.

I think the current Cowsills with Bob and Paul and Susan have an excellent view of their success and family history. They seem to very comfortable with being pop stars and not have been rock n rollers like the Stones. I just think they have a great attitude on life and it may have a lot to do with their longevity.

Hi Louise, and a great big hi from Ireland. I thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed your video!! Unfortunately, I've never had the pleasure of knowing of The Cowsills (Until now), and this all came about by chance while watching a video from The Sessions featuring Waddy Wachtel, where he mentions that he got a job through Bill, after he had a huge argument with his dad and left the band. So I was then on a mission to research The Cowsills, and totally fell in love with them. So I'm totally delighted to find them, and will most definitely be watching all of the footage and back stories on them. I myself am a bass player, and come next July God willing, I'll be on the road fifty years, and now after discovering my newfound gem of a band, I think it's time Ireland is introduced to their amazing songs!! I really look forward to watching all your videos on you channel. Many thanks. Sending my very best, and blessings from Ireland ☘❤☘
