    So much effort went into completing this video. I've never made anything quite this intricate in my entire life. At least, not in miniature. I really hope you guys like it.
    Kat, it was so great working with you! I definitely want to collaborate more with you!
    Most miniature artists create their products in 1:12 scale. I create mine in 1:24 scale; twice as small! My main goal is to keep the detail in such tiny objects that if you were to look at it in a scene, you can’t tell it’s a miniature.
    I upload a new video every Thursday (sometimes Friday), so please be on the lookout for new content! Subscribe if you haven’t, or if you were thinking about doing it~
    Here’s the link to subscribe: / @krakenmakeruckus
    Please like, comment, and share if it suits you!
    I would LOVE to hear any requests you might have! I may not do it anytime soon, but I ALWAYS write down anything I haven’t heard or thought of yet.

    I totally love seeing your sketches and planning, and all that background technically-less-artsy stuff. I tend to obsessively overplan when I make stuff, mostly because I enjoy it. It's nice to see all those little details, like the names of the specific koi you're putting in. The waterpump is a great idea, and I love how you used the foam to help hide it away. So many neat little things you did.

    • @KrakenMakeRuckus
      @KrakenMakeRuckus  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, thank you so much! There's just something about understanding what I'm making that gives the piece a little extra love. I'm hoping that in the future, when I make an actual dollhouse for all of these items, I can make it the exact height of the foam and slip the garden next to it as part of the yard. ;p

    • @HappyKittens
      @HappyKittens 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's such a cool idea. Maybe if I ever finish refurbishing my dollhouse I'll do the inverse and add in a pond.

    Beautiful model! I love your attention to detail and the fact that you've shared the names and cultural importance of many pieces. Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but using alcohol instead of water will heavily reduce the surface tension and it will allow the bamboo water feature (deer scare?) to work as intended, since ethanol doesn't have the same polarity issues that water does.
    I don't know whether ethanol would form a chemical reaction with some of the other materials in the pond though, so obviously check that before trying. Ethanol does, of course have it's own issues (flammable, unsafe odour and evaporates faster than water), but it is soluble in water, so assuming it's safe to use in your pond, a mix of ethanol and water might work.

    • @KrakenMakeRuckus
      @KrakenMakeRuckus  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, no! I just saw this comment! Thank you very much! I try to be as well-informed as possible before making my pieces. Trying liquids with different surface tension properties was something I considered. However, with the time frame I allotted myself, it never came to fruition, haha. I'll go back into it one day and see if I can help it with that kind of stuff. I like some of your suggestions, so I'll definitely be using those.

    the best way to fix down your grass flocking is to mix a 50/50 pva glue mix with water and a few drops of dish detergent . put this in a spray bottle and spray lightly over your flock . its a model railroading trick . love the work by the way .

      I think your methods are great . I am a big fan of anything Japanese and your design and build are great ,the thing with the clump of dirt exploding was quite weird lol , when if happened I thought it was some insect or something that had gotten into the water. we can all learn the tricks from each other and the cross over between crafting and model building of any kind is good for your learning curve. keep up the great work .

    So, awesome little garden, for your deer scare, you could do a small electromagnet that turns on, and then off every few seconds, or maybe some thing to weigh it down enough so it returns to it's position when empty?
    Also, check out a product called Neverwet, it may or may not help your projects?

    • @KrakenMakeRuckus
      @KrakenMakeRuckus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, that's probably the best solution I've found for this problem! Other than pouring solvents into the water to reduce water surface tension, the magnet thing is a great idea. Thank you! I will also look in to Neverwet!

    Incredible work! So sorry about "That rock". I can only imagine what was going on in your head when that happened.
    Wouldn't adding a small weight to the Deer Scare help bring it back up? Even a piece of the "ballast rock" glued to the underside might counterbalance it. Just a thought.
    Keep up the great work! And, as I always say ... Have a better day!

    Um, just a suggestion, but why go to all that work to make the deer scare thingy out of big blocks of wood when you could just find the right size of REAL bamboo? I've made my own deer scare out of real bamboo in that miniature size for a miniature Zen garden I made a week ago. Just saying...it saves a lot of time and work. ~Janet in Canada

    adding a few drops of dish soap to the water would lower the surface tension . But i,m not sure if it would cause bubbles with the waterfall

    • @KrakenMakeRuckus
      @KrakenMakeRuckus  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was afraid of that, for sure. I'll have to experiment with a couple of additives and liquids that people have recommended.

  • @captainhoratiobungleiii7147
    @captainhoratiobungleiii7147 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you tried using a tiny amount of detergent to reduce the water surface tension? Obviously if you use too much you will have too many bubbles.

    • @KrakenMakeRuckus
      @KrakenMakeRuckus  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I read up on a few liquids with loved surface tension, but forgot to experiment once I shot the last bits of footage I needed. Now that I have nothing but the piece itself to lose, I'll probably try a couple of liquids that are readily available and supposedly work. If it does end up working, you can bet that I'll let y'all know in the next video or something. ;3

    I loved the pond and the bridge and everything but you talked about the bench but never showed how you made it, do you have a tutorial on the bench in another video that can be watched 🤗

      I made the bench in my last video! You can watch how I made it with more love than I made these other objects, hahaha. I should have mentioned in the beginning of the video where you could find it. :p

    So if a person wanted to make the same things you make in 1/12th scale we would just have to double your measurements?

    • @KrakenMakeRuckus
      @KrakenMakeRuckus  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you are correct! My pond layout is a fairly big one though, so if you find it to be too big an area, maybe scale it back if you so desire, haha. I would love to see it if you make it!

    Would some glycerin or liquid soap decrease the surface tension of the h2o

    • @KrakenMakeRuckus
      @KrakenMakeRuckus  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had that planned as an option, but feared it would create bubbles from the waterfall. I'll have to experiment soon.

      KrakenMakeRuckus you might want to try adding a little dishwasher rinse aid, like Jet Dry, to the water. It reduces the surface tension, but doesn't suds up like detergent. it also has a lot less ingredients, so I'd think it would be less likely to go icky... maybe also less likely to mess up the workings. I first read of dipping a silicone mold in Jet Dry solution before casting something very small and detailed in plaster, to prevent bubbles, and it worked well for that.

      I bet if it was a lot bigger, it might be safe. I'm not sure what effects E6000 glue would have on the integrity of the water levels, but the water pump should certainly circulate water appropriately. I would definitely do some research on your glue though.

    Webster Dictionary pronounces the word "fileting" as "fih LAY ing." So, when you say " fih LET ing," are you talking about a different technique or are you talking about fileting? I know the word is tricky. I just want to make sure I duplicate your beautiful Koi pond using the correct techniques. Thanks.

      I didn't realize a lot of people wouldn't know this term. Here's what I'm talking about:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fillet_(mechanics)
      When you fillet something, it turns a corner into a curve, basically. Both inwards and outwards. :p
      I'm trying to put together a FAQ for everyone, so I'll add this question in there! It's always nice to better understand my audience so I can better help you in the future! Thank you!

    This is too cute! I’m dead!
    I’m wondering if you may be able to help me. I’ve been searching for a nice, dark, rich soil to use for a graveyard scene I’ve been working on. Everything I’ve found has either been too light & sand colored or super red. Do you have any ideas of where I might find such a product? Doesn’t need to be water resistant.

      Thank you so much! That's a super great question. I would recommend two things: a mixture of fine grain sand and perhaps coffee grounds or tea grounds? TheTerrainTutor has some cool videos for like 1:72 scale or something crazy small, but I'm sure that's too small for what you're working with. I can't remember who, but I've seen someone use loose leaf tea for miniature dirt/mulch. If you mix several different kinds, I bet you can get the mixture you're looking for! I personally wouldn't mind the smell of raw tea in my house, so hopefully you might consider this, hahaha.
