What a fantastic little project - and it turned out amazingly well. It looks very authentic and so professionally produced, just as if it was purchased from a shop.
You are a true artisan Irene Don't ever doubt yourself I could never take the patience nor that I just couldn't do that I did like to watch your video though thank you😊
Your lantern is beautiful and so well made! I would imagine time and weather will make it even more impressive. It’s nice to see someone not “cut corners” and to do a job well, start to finish. You are amazing! Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity. 😃
I love your vidéos ! You are incredible ! You inspire me for my little japanese garden and little english champêtre garden near Paris !!! How incredible you are! 😮😮🎉🪴🧱⛩️😀
Oh gosh you are so amazing, I love this Japanese lantern, since I am half Japanese I love having things like this in my yard, I love that vibe and always have. Thanks for a great video sending love and hugs, bye! 🤗💜💜💜
Looks very nice. You may try supporting the roof mold by carefully pressing it on to a pad of dampened play sand until the sand is shaped to the mold. Thank you for another great project.
I think you did a really good job, sometimes things are more organic and beautiful due to their imperfections. Thank you for the tutorial, your videos are so well made
Irene, you did an amazing job on this pagoda (lantern). I love your projects, you are so meticulous and a perfectionist as well. I have enjoyed all your projects, immensely. Keep up the good work.
Genius is figuring out how to do something, and I took inspiration from your genius and made my own, a bit larger (my roof has a 30" diameter) using your template. . For coloring, I used Sienna in my mix and the Quikrete liquid colorant, mixed into the hypertufa after I had it ready to give it a mottled look. I also made an 18" high hexagonal base and used rebar for reinforcement as well as 1X1 wire fencing. To avoid the "roof crush" you experienced, I sprayed Spray Foam insulation on the back of my roof mold. This gave it some strength and rigidity. Because mine was larger and heavier, I used a 1.5:1:1 ratio for my hypertufa and the roof and base pieces are made with larger chips of vermiculite, so they look like a marbled granite. For the finial, I used the top third of a Gatorade bottle as it has the perfect swell and taper. (For those of us in the US, the exact place mat used in this video can be found on Amazon in a pack of 6) Exceptionally inspired and well done, Irene. I've been doing artisan vertical concrete carving as a hobby for a few years, and your creativity is ingenious.
White cement makes it easier to color the mix. When I made planters ( prox 100) my favorite was using white cement and nothing else but the vermiculite and coconut coir to give it color. Very pretty lantern, I am tempted taking up my old cement hobby again.
Genius!!! That took so much planning and hard work and it came out perfectly wonderful! It's just lovely, even more so when miss begins to grow on it and you add the light! Love it!!!
Amazing job! Love the forms and dedication to seeing the project come to life. The “imperfections” for me are the perfection! Very much in tune with the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi and makes your art piece even more authentic. (Your garden looks beautiful as well!) Very well done.. I love it.
Irene, thank you for sharing this video. I follow your steps to make it by myself and it’s work. I was planning to do this for a year and now finally I can make it with your steps 😊
Thank you so much! I’m planning on a Japanese garden and was pricing the lanterns and jaw dropping prices even for small ones. I love yours and the video instructions are very clear. I think I can give it a try!
😮wow your lantern came out beautiful better than the ones at the store bought. I have been looking for one but they are so expensive maybe I will try to diy mine too. 😅
Thank you for sharing that I've been looking for a pattern just like this I sure enjoyed your video keep putting them out there you do good work I'm glad I found you
Your videos are great. I get a lot of inspiration. Your hypetufa mix is wetter than that used by some creators but ideal for casting or building up over the outside of a sand structure which is what I am doing for free style bonsai pots.. This type of lantern would be perfect. Great job.
Oh My Gosh ❣❣❣ I don't know where to start!!! You are SO GIFTED & INTELLIGENT God has blessed you with quite the gift. "You have brains in your head. Hey,Thankyou for sharing your creativeness with us,you make it look so easy, but I know it's not.. Can i ask you please,do you get really cold weather & has it ever damaged your beautiful artistic ornaments/sculptures??..I only ask because I live in England & winter hear can ruin even our clay pots & other pots.. Have a bright & beautiful day 🌻🌼🦋🐞🌻🌼🦋🐞
Great job! I would've made this a fountain, where the water comes out the top into pondless area that drains slow to be able to hear the water sound, with the windows having lights.
Before I watched the video, I thought okay I can do this. After I watched it, I thought, nope! Very nice though!
Print the templates on regular 8.5"x11" paper and cut them out, they are ready to go for correct size & scale. Irene, you're so talented.
What a fantastic little project - and it turned out amazingly well. It looks very authentic and so professionally produced, just as if it was purchased from a shop.

Fantastic looking lantern!... I want to create one or my garden....
Really nice, i think the natural look is better than painting it. Matches with everything else as it is.
