Hi, thanks for the unpacking, very usefull before buying. However, if I may add a precision for beginners who will watch, to plug that pedal in the 'sustain' input of your keyboard controller is not really representative (I mean it works, but it's not made for 'that'). Remember : all midi signals are encoded with [0 to 127] values. Some parameters, like 'sustain', are off/on [0 to 63 for 'off' ] and [64 to 127 for 'on' ]. The basics sustain pedal just encode 0 or 127 (nothing between). The best to test an expression pedal able to encode 0...to...127 (all values between) : is to plug it in the 'expression' input (not all keyboard have it) who expect all 0~127 values , and to modulate the value of a parameter of your synthesizer sound (ex: cutoff frequency on a synth). Sorry in advance if everyone already knew that, and i hope my bad english doesn't make me sound arrongant, not my intention. Again, great video ! thanks a lot ;-)
I was looking for an explaination on that cos i was wondering if it works an expression port. Thanks so much.. it cleared my doubt as a beginner to midi. Thank u so much! :)
Thanks for the demo. FYI for anyone thinking if this will work on novation launchkey series, it does not. I have tried it and it doesn't work..neither do any pedals that have a TRS jack. Novation support mentioned the launchkey works with a regular non TRS jack input. Hope this helps someone . Cheers.
In this case, an expression pedal is plugged into a sustain jack and basically works as an on/off switch, not an expression pedal. I just checked the sustain jack on my MPK mini mk3, which I suspect is the same as in this version of the MPK mini, and it is indeed a TS jack, not TRS. Ie. if you plug in a TRS plug the R and S are electrically the same. Which means that you can't plug in an expression pedal into the sustain port of an MPK mini and expect it to work as an expression pedal. With the price of technology these days it sucks that AKAI didn't make it a TRS expression jack...
I have something similar to yours, but with a Nektar NXP, I only want to use it as a sustain but I'm afraid in an Alesis recital and the NXP also comes in TRS, do you think it will work?
Midi controller must have an expression pedal input for effects like wah and volume and octave etc. You can use in sustain input but that will just be on and off for your effect. I use it with my Axiom 49. The akai shown here has only sustain pedal input. Good luck!
Wonderful video, thanks for the demo. A query, to use it in the amplitube, guitar rig, neural, etc. Does it connect to akai mini? I would really appreciate your answer! Bless from Argentina.
Thank you for your review. Can this pedal be used as a general volume fader with MIDI keyboards? My keyboard does not have a fader button and instead of getting a dedicated unit I would rater use a pedal for volume swells and expression.
Maybe it works if your midi keyboard support it, the pedal have a switch in the back for m-audio products and general products, works better with amps and synths
initial loud guitar music was too harsh and noisy, i had to turn off the vol completely. Anyway, how is this diff from the sustain pedal which is on off? Do most professionals use or prefer this over sustain pedal? What should I choose? does this expression pedal recreate the piano pedal better?

@@mrsoulpoint an expression pedal can change a value from 0% to 100%, a sustain pedal is only on/off. An expression pedal can be plugged into a keyboard to change volume, or other things (filter, distortion, whatever). He didn’t really. His controller only accepts sustain which is on or off. So he is essentially just turning it on or off and not actually creating wah at all. You need an expression pedal jack for this to work properly
Just wonderful, I have been researching "what are the three piano pedals used for?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Hey cool review! 1 question: can you get it to automatically go back to a given position/value (without having to move it back)?
can it work with Irig Pro I/O?
Can it be used as a volume padel. If so, how?

The gray knob at the left is suposed to tighten the feel of the pedal?
No its for the adjustment of expression response, min/max

An expression pedal allow you control the volume of what you're playing while recording it.
