About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

Fab surprise for a rainy day Monday!!!

Keep the wood look on the mirror. It’s a lovely contrast! This is all amazing!!!!! 😊
Thanks Gwenne 🥰🥰
Even with all the tape, it’s already looking grand & luxurious!
Thank you 🥰🥰
Pls keep the wood look on the mirror.
Thank you 🥰
Yes wholeheartedly agree
You need the wood mirror to add interest to that wall. Painting that beautiful wood would just not be good.
Keep the wood finish. You do not want every room to be finished with the same paint technique. Differences are more interesting and draw you into the room. Stimulating to the senses.
Thanks Karen 🥰
Keep the mirror wood. Make it stand out on its own and be a different room than the other room. You say *blue room*, i see that blue with a green tint. It could be the camera of course that don't pick up the tint correctly. No matter what, it will be stunning when its done. I love the wooden room. I think it is the proper bald thing to do. It is a chateau, where else would you make it work if not there? Cant wait for it to be done so we can see it in its splendid glory. Paddy made magic with the doors. So beautiful! Well done guys, you are awesome!
Thanks Elisabeth 🥰
Please keep the mirror frame wood. It needs to make it's own statement. ☺️
Great idea!! 🥰
I’d recommend you keep the mirror’s wood finish.
Thanks David 🥰
keep wood it’s gives an intro to the wood room opposite
Thanks Kirsty 🥰
You Guys Might consider Osmo to seal the Oak front doors instead of paint to Highlight the Oak doors ( Just a Thought ) Billy of the Pethericks
Are restoreing A Convent & also replacing the front doors something you might want to check out 👍 😊 As always the like button 🔳 has been Illuminated ☀ 😎
Thanks so much James 🥰🥰
Paddy made the Petherick doors too.
How delightful, a Monday program. Very nice surprise! Thank you.
Our pleasure! 🥰🥰
Paddy is a master craftsman. Just watched him install a door at Billy's convent. Beautiful. Are you all going to install this door yourselves or will Paddy come do it?
He really is 🥰🥰
The door will look amazing when installed. All your works that you Terry and Tracy is excellent they look very authentic love it , WELL DONE😘
Thanks so much 🥰
A master at work the effect of wood is incredible well done
Thank you very much! 🥰
Wow Paddy has been really busy making, delivering and installing doors. I can't wait to see your new door installed. You are all going to be so warm this winter, you may need to open a window lol
We can’t wait 🥰🥰🥰
Terry I think you're designs are amazing! Love the red/wood room and how you achieved the amazing veneer look, you and you're mother work very well together and have finished the veneering in great time. Love the blue room too. Everything will look fantastic once completed, your chateau will be a beautiful place to stay. You'll be snatched up for interior design afterwards I'm sure! You could offer Interior classes when your Chateau is open, gardening and other classes. Well done guys, you work so hard. Lots of love ❤️ xxx
Thanks Kristina 🥰
What a wonderful surprise seeing you tonight 😊loved the video, love all your beautiful work and the new door is stunning ❤
Thanks Jane 🥰🥰
Please keep the mirror in the brown wood frame.
Thanks Dave 🥰
i would leave the mirror as it is the room will pop love the effect in the brown room all work is paying off fantastic job stephen bristol uk
Thanks Stephen 🥰
Definitely wood.
Thanks Dave 🥰
Keep the mirror wood as to tie the rooms/suite together❤
Thanks Logan 🥰
Paddy does good work!
He does amazing work! 🥰
Thank you for another fantastic video. This is an escape from the ugliness in the world right now.💫
Thanks so much 🥰🥰
Is Paddy the same Paddy doing Billy’s convent doors, or are all the best carpenters in France called Paddy?
Yes, same Paddy.
Yes the same paddy 🥰
I think it will be easier to see if the mirror needs to be painted after the room has been painted. Everything is coming together 😍
Thanks angel 🥰
Love the new door, dislike the black in the bedroom. It's too much.
Thanks Enny 🥰
Love the narrow trim that will be gilded! It's going to look amazing💕
Thanks Donna 🥰
I would keep it wood as it will tie in with the furniture ! xo
Thank you 🥰
Maybe the new name for that room would be the mahogany room
I like the red wood room someone suggested 🤣
Keep the wood on the mirror as it is! :)
Thanks Christian 🥰
Paddy is a VERY BUSY BOY. Always nice to see a master at work your place and the convent, French buildings being restore by ex pats.😊
Thanks Jill 🥰
Depending on the furniture I think the frame should remain wood. But hey, not my chateau....unfortunately!😊 Excited for Ash to get his craft on❤
Thanks Jo 🥰🥰
I could immediately tell that Paddy made the doors. He made the convent doors that the Pethericks own. The quality is instantly recognizable!
Thanks Wendy 🥰
Keeping it wood in my opinion would be best. But at the end of the day seeing the room from your point of view I know you would make the best choice cannot wait to see what you all decide what you are going to do
Thanks so much Joyce
I've been watching you since your first episodes, love the crazy things you do and how you've developed. I think this has to be my favorite. This room, your vision, creative imagination, and willingness to take risks and share that journey with us is just fantastic. Looking forward to the reveal. I've enjoyed the process. I hope one day you're inspired by a yellow room and good full into a Canary yellow. Design challenge accepted? 😂
Looks awesome! Can’t wait till it’s done! I know you have a Vision of how it’s supposed to look!!
Oh thanks! 🤩
The red room after you finish it gives me the feeling that it is smaller
It feels much bigger when your in it 🥰
As always the like button
Thanks Caroline 🥰
Terry, I would hold off on the moldings. I think you have a beautiful room just with the paneling you’ve created. I also think the mirror is fine as is depending on the rest of the furnishings.
Thank you 🥰
Wow think of the Heat they will save going out ,.how wonderful ..they look Fantastic…ps 401 looks like a warm autumn fall room so inviting..
Thank you so much 🥰🥰
I suggest you do not paint the mirror frame nor to keep it wood but to gild it like the ornamentations. Doing so would accentuate the gilded ornamentations and form both a balance and an accent. Wood or paint will break the flow. ❤
Thank you 🥰🥰
It’s such beautiful paint work! I just don’t understand the black - are you trying to imitate a shadow, dirt of the ages? That’s the only thing that doesn’t look authentic. IMHO - otherwise it’s magnificent.
Thank you 🥰🥰
I agree. The black line is to definite. It looks on. Maybe brushed through but it looks very new and too strong.
Please please consider painting those doors with linseed oil paint that will SOAK into the wood and NEVER crack. Please don't use modern paint that will crack and peel in the sun.
Thank you. Don’t worry. We will be protecting the doors 🥰🥰
I don’t understand why you’d make a comment like this. When have these people ever taken a wrong step? Try a compliment instead of telling them to do something when they are now masters of EVERYTHING they’ve done in this beautiful Chateau.
Does the wood mirror match the bed and armoire you will be using in the blue room?? If they all match, I would put off that decision until you “dress “ the room with the other furniture and then revisit the option to paint !! 😊
No Claire 😢😢
Keep the Wood👍🏼
Thanks klaus 🥰🥰
I have just restored a huge antique hall lantern in brass and I used this product this time instead of 'Eau Japonaise' and it worked so well ! No effort, kept the patina, just took off the grime and oxidation and verdigris. 'Décapant désoxydant pour métaux 250ml STARWAX', and it's quite cheap. I used fine wire wool and sometimes a toothbrush. Wear gloves !
Very cool! Thank you 🥰🥰
The iron on those doors are MAGNIFICENT in their simplicity ❤
It is! Thank you 🥰🥰
Leave the mirror as is for it'll be a trailblazer when you'll are done , a gold to the trim , fin.
Thank you 🥰🥰
Keep it wood! 🇨🇦
Thank you 🥰
What a wonderful sureprise a bonus show. Thank you so much.
Thanks William 🥰
Don't paint it!
Thanks you 🥰
I don’t know if I’m by myself on this but I will be so happy when y’all finally renovate the grand salon! As you guessed patience isn’t my greatest forte!!😂 Have a great day!😊
Haha. Won’t be long 🥰🥰🥰
Must be door day Patty has done well here and at the Convent with Billy!!! Fun that the episodes coincide!!! No wonder Patty is so busy!!! He does do wonderful cabinetry-excellent craftsman!!❤❤ gonna be beautiful!!
Thanks Claire 🥰🥰
The black trim breaks up the mahogany color & with the trim added, it's going to be amazing!! I knew you must have more in mind with the black trim; we just all need to be patient! The fact that we're not, means we're highly invested in this project & can't wait to see the final result!! 🇺🇸
Thanks Jane 🥰🥰
I am not a Fan of Dark Rooms, but that Mahagoni replica via painting is extraordinary…will turn out very special, I wouldn’t replicate the other blue Bedroom, maybe another base colour ?
Anyway, I would tune up the Gold on that mirror but not paint it in wall colour…❤❤❤
Thanks Obi 🥰
An extra video 🙌 love the door - Ash you mentioned the items that we are not supposed to talk about 🤣 the wood effect looks fantastic - love the wall lights and your making it more exceptional by adding another feature ❤
Thanks Alida
@@chateaudelalacelle in the blue room are the mouldings going to be gold ? If so gold mirror
Thanks,happy everything
Thank you too 🥰
You all have a great You Tube channel and content!!!😁😁😁
Thanks Mindy 🥰
I'm on team woodgrain mirror & not painted to blend it in with the walls.
💖the new door !! Each piece Paddy creates (or recreates) is clearly a labour of love & fine craftsmanship.
Thank you 🥰
I vote for guilding the mirror. It's a Cinderella room. I wood paneled room is perfect for prince charming.
Just imagine a bridal shoot in those two rooms. You'll have to make a portfolio for advertising when they're finished.
Thanks Amy 🥰🥰
Keep the wood colour on the mirror so it echoes/references the wood room
Thank you 🥰🥰
Broughtons of Leicester, their Web site has some great reproduction door rimlocks, give it a look 👌 greetings from Ireland love your channel ❤
Thanks Jem 🥰🥰
Здравствуйте 👋. Преображение продолжается!!!!😊
Thank you as always 🥰🥰🥰
On the trim detail you are adding to the panels on the wood room . . .
you may want to consider painting a wash of the same black before putting them onto the wall, then gilding them. The wash will go down into the recesses and then can be "wiped" away from the higher areas. This will add to the other distressed effect you are adding to the walls and done down the color a wee bit and give depth do your molding and really "pop" your gilding detail.
WOW❤
🥰🥰🥰
Ooops, I forgot to cast my vote on whether to leave the mirror as is or to paint it...leave it as is it's beautiful! It will make more sense & fit in with all the furnishings you'll be adding to the room. 😊
Keep the mirror as natural wood. The wardrobe and bed and other furniture will be dark won’t they. It gives a flowing link.
You can put me in the like the black edging list. I really like it. Please, please, pleason don't paint the mirror frame.
Mirror _ keep it wood. It would be a good contrast. And you can always paint it after if you don't like it 😊
brucey bonus tonite lads…….cheers ❤
Thanks Kirsty. Hope you enjoyed 🥰🥰
Keep the wood on the mirror please! It’s a good transition from the wood room and will compliment the furniture
Keep the wood look of mirror, so that it ties in well with wood room - also that dark brown goes beautifully with the blue👌
Rather than paint the mirror, build one and paint it. The wood mirror looked fabulous in the Granda salon
Thanks Ann 🥰
Thanks for the Monday treat. Does the mirror match the furniture going in the blue room?
Yes it does! 🥰
The panels are a true work of art. Congratulations on such a good job. I look forward to seeing the final result.
Leave the wood on the mirror. The mirror would look lost if it was painted. The new front door is stunning. It is a true work of art.
Thank you for this nice surprise! It brightened up a Monday start to the work week!!
I am going to reserve my judgement I prefer simple elegance we will see how it turns out.
My vote for the blue room mirror is keep it the colour it is. Love watching you all.
The rooms are coming together brilliantly ❤ we trust you guys x
Thanks guys 🥰🥰
please do not paint the mirror!!! the beautiful wood is a pleasant warm contrast!!
Definitely paint the mirror the color of the walls. The overall shape of it matches perfectly the shape of your faux panels, but since the sides of the mirror frame appear to be missing, I would think about removing the rocaille bit at the top of the frame (keeping it for use elsewhere), leaving the frame equal-width all the way round and then adding your own moulding to it.
Thank you 🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle I am vastly outnumbered regarding painting the mirror frame, but I think it would have a more original, "built-in" sort of appearance, as it reflects the panel design so perfectly.
Pads acting up i can see it becoming a wall feature any second lol
🤣🤣 hope your well Paul 🥰
I think you should keep the mirror wood, wonderful work btw
Leave the wood on the mirror for contrast. Looking great.
Thanks Kimberley 🥰
The Grand Salon needs to be over the top like the bedrooms! That the show case of the Chateau the room everyone sees first!!!!
We have grand plans for the grand salon 🥰🥰
You’ve had grand plans for all your work - inside and out. Bravo to your whole team
Leave the mirror frame wood😊
Thank you 🥰
I❤ the natural wood Look
Wood for the mirror……panels in the wood room are awesome
Thanks Patricia 🥰🥰
Keep the mirror wood. It will help pair the suite together.
Omg what. A gift....another video...I am blessed!v
I always await your videos and cannot wait for the next one, so THANK YOU. ❤❤ LOVING the effects ❤️
Thanks again! 🥰
I LOVE the darkness of the wood room. It’s very masculine which offsets the blue room perfectly. In America, we’d call the wood room “cozy”. Majestic, yet cozy. I think the British term is “snug”. And PLEASE do NOT paint that mirror!! It’s gorgeous. The wood grain makes it more regal looking. It’s a statement piece that complements the wood room & gives the room age. Plus painting it will diminish its value. Not that you’re gonna sell it, but it will.
Thanks Chrissy 🥰🥰
Getting quite emotional about your wood panelling room Terry, I like it all very much 😊 You do set yourself a hard task but definitely worth it! I like the black surround which adds interest! John in Monmouth 🏴
Thanks so much John 🥰
Fantastic new 'old' door, hopefully you will install them asap as the wood may warp if its left in a damp environment then very difficult to fit.
Love the 'wood' room and the sconces will add the dramatic effect. Leave the mirror in the dark wood 🙏 Thank you for sharing your journey with your beautiful chateau ❤❤ xx
Thanks Mary 🥰
There’s a trick for using inexpensive masking tape, instead
of buying the expensive blue or green tape. ( so you don’t pull off the paint with the tape)
You probably know how to do it, so I won’t write it out now, if you don’t know how,
let me know and I’ll write how to do it here.
I think the wood color is going to look brilliant and I love blue,
so the blue room, from what I see and in my opinion will look fantastic. 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Jamie
What a beautiful door. A small distinction but I'd say it's not that you don't want things to look new (per se) but that you don't want them to look modern/not in keeping with the old world craftsman workmanship. Every building needs things replaced/repaired due to damage of one sort or another, repainted, updated, etc.. The original owners of your lovely chateau would be gobsmacked to see what you've done/are doing to elevate and enhance the beauty their home so many years later.
As for the mirror, I'd wait to see what you think once the room is painted & how it looks with the furniture. You may need to 'balance' the room out or it may look overbearing. Hard to say at this point . 😇 You're doing a lovely job!
Thank you so much 🥰🥰🥰
It's all fabulous. You're doing a great job of keeping the rooms in with the history. Whilst the blue room is very elegant I still much prefer the warmth of the mahogany room. Now that you've shown us the candle sconces that seals the deal for me as I'm a complete sucker for candles and holders. 🕯🕯🕯🕯♥♥♥
Thank you 🥰🥰
Don’t paint the mirror.
Thank you 🥰🥰
Wow, what an accomplishment you have made on the wood room. It’s going to be magnificent and a memorable experience for your chateau guest to stay in. I’m always in awe of your creativity of design ability❤😊
Thank you so much!
The mahogany room is coming along great. Love all the additional ideas for accents (the black contrast is not ‘too much’ as some are criticizing). Keep the mirror frame natural. IMO: it doesn’t need to ‘disappear ‘ but needs to ‘stand out’. The front doors will be a much needed upgrade to the original doors. Over time the chateau has received improvements, you have retained authentic features of the past. It is okay to make the necessary changes to the chateau, she approves and appreciates all you are doing for her. ❤️🏰
Thank you 🥰🥰
