    FYI - Rectangle is free and very concise window manager, also great to pair it with also free AltTab (which is must have for multi-display setup)

      Great alternative!

      Or…Raycast now handles the same/similar window management natively, which is kinda cool!

    Anyone recall Quicksilver? The workflow is 1) you search and find something 2) you search and select a relevant action to apply. For example, this is crazy handy for quickly finding a text file and opening it for editing it in an app of your choice, or copying it or whatever you want. I’ve never seen another quick access tool do it quite this way, it’s super clever.
    This reminded video reminded me of Quicksilver and I was pleasantly surprised to see it’s still developed.

    I fully replaced alfred for raycast, the free tier is insane.
    it shines when you add extensions, add a shortcut for a command and boom.
    here some examples of I use:
    a shortcut to show recently open folders in visual code and open a new one is quicker than open the terminal and writing code path
    a shortcut to search tabs already in google chrome, since i have many tabs open, i can quick search for a tab and open super quick..
    a shortcut to open process by ports, and kill the processes. quicker than open the terminal listing the processes and kill -9
    pretty much you can make it quicker any two more clicks or a terminal command in your computer to a single shortcut in your keyboard.

    Apple hasn't done anything about window management like MS because MS holds the patent "Microsoft holds several patents related to window snapping, but one notable patent is US Patent No. 8301779, titled "Method and System for Arranging on-screen Windows."

    • @michalmargiel
      @michalmargiel 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      that would explain a lot. but if thats the case why there are so many external applications sold through App Store implementing this functionality? Are they paying patent charges to MS? hard to believe in that..

    • @anmolsharma4049
      @anmolsharma4049 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's nothing stopping apple from using some other method for snap there are lot of apps that implement this

    Great video! I have been using Raycast for the last 4 months and it has changed the way I interact with my mac. The tasks I do the most are open different chrome profiles (using a mac shortcut), open other apps, search on finder, toggle my output audio devices, use the clipboard history, create quick zoom meetings, launch upcoming zoom meetings, and kill processes. I've set up a few quick links as well but didn't try the query, which I'm going to try right now.

  • @gabrielvoc
    @gabrielvoc ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I prefer using Alfred over Raycast because Alfred follows a one-time purchase model, which I find more suitable for a tool that doesn't directly generate income for me. Unlike Raycast, which requires a subscription, Alfred allows me to buy it once per version and be done with it.

    • @yakinbozek
      @yakinbozek ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the monthly subscription plan is worth it. If time is money and Raycast helps you achieve a lot more in less time, you can say that it is indeed directly generating wealth for you. As an ex-Alfred user, consider that even the basic free version of Raycast is already better than Alfred!

      @NicolasMichel_CCIE_29410 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Awesome video! I love raycast, it's mind blowing, btw, Apple can't apply the window management like windows, cause windows has this "feature" patented or whatever you call it, so apple can't "officially" do it, that's where third party apps come in D:

    + scripted in Lua which has a simple syntax

    Thanks for making this video. I recently bought my first Mac and I'm now looking for all the cool tools I could try. I'm always a little bit (maybe too) cautious about privacy when it gets to new tools and I'm slightly concerned using Raycast, I read a little bit of their privacy policy:
    "We have a legitimate interest in processing your personal data for promotional purposes (see table above). This means we do not usually need your consent to send you promotional communications."
    I heard Alfred is good too. Maybe that's also a good alternative. Will try that first.
