I lost my "wienerdog" in Feb and I've been devastated ever since. I just adopted a rescue Dachy and met the transport team Sat. He is now sleeping on the floor next to my bed and I am SOOOOO HAPPY!! He's only 1 yr old so hopefully,we'll be together for a loooooong (pun intended) time! I LOVE HIM ❤
I’ve had three dachshunds many years ago, all rescues. I decided after loosing them not to have anymore. I moved on to rescuing bigger hounds. But!!! I lost my 39 year son two years ago, and somehow fate brought along Max the Dax. Apparently a very disturbed badly behaved non trainable and disturbed Dachshund. A year on ! He’s my savior. He’s as good as gold. No real issues. Yes he’s pushy yes he’s stubborn at times. He’s only peed one time in a year. He’s fun he’s loyal he’s so much fun. He’s helped my grief he came along at a time I needed him. And I guess he needed me. The list of issues was long? But from day one the cage was taken to the tip. He is my bestie and treated as he should be. Wonderful hounds.
I had a Doxie-mix who was THE best dog that I have EVER had! He was just about perfect and was my self appointed "emotional support" dog. I have PTSD, and all the other problems that go along with that, especially nocturnal panic attacks + my guy somehow figured out how to lessen them. He was a BLESSING. He just passed away Feb of 2022 and my heart STILL hasn't recovered ,and I doubt that it ever will. 💔 I miss him like crazy, I'd love to rescue another 1, but I KNOW that another 1 could NEVER replace my "CUDDLEBUG" or even come close. So, I'm praying that 1 day I will find a cute little dog that will keep me company. 🤞
We bought our Daschund when she was 3 months old and now she's 12. One of the smartest dogs that j have come across but be prepared they can be very stubborn and aggressive at times.

I love my wiener haha we adopted him at 10 months, he’s now 8, and his name is Tank. He was overweight but since I never knew much about daschunds I was over feeding him without realizing it. He got up to 35lbs! We did put him on a diet but unfortunately it was too late and he was diagnosed with diabetes earlier this year. He nearly died. But he was super strong and made it but it did take his vision. he has been trained to not have to be on a leash all the time, but of course now he really won’t wander off because he can’t see. But this doesn’t stop him from playing and having the funniest personality. He’s so sweet and cuddly. I wish I knew more about his breed before adopting him. I was at a conference event where an animal shelter had a booth with several animals looking for homes. I walked past the booth and he caught my eye and I took him on spot. Wasn’t planning on getting a new animal but I needed him lol best doggie ever had. I am blind too so now he and I have a special bond lol
Parth Mishra voice texting. You should give it a try. Also I’m not completely blind. I do have some vision left. More blind people have at least a small portion of sight. It’s rarer to be totally blind. Totally blind people are usually those who were born blind. More often blind people have a degenerative eye disease, like me.
Parth Mishra thank you. I’m sorry o took it that way. I get a lot of messages of people challenging the fact that I’m blind. It’s just ignorance. But thank you, I hope you have a wonderful day. 💜
We just got Chips, rescued through Happy Tails Dachshund Rescue. We love him and he looks a bit like your Gretel chocolate, brown, and silver dapple, hence the name he came with and we kept, Chips.
I have had a dachshund, I believe Mini Dachshund, for 2 months now. He is 4 months old. Potty training has worked well for us. However, general obedience is such a challenge! This is especially when he has my toddler’s toys. We immediately give him his toys. Saying “No” means nothing to him, unfortunately, so I definitely sense the stubbornness talked about a couple times here. He is sweet and affectionate…. but wow so tough to get to listen (aside from sit and stay and come when we have treats… does great when we have treats! Lol) Anyone else have similar experiences?
Ive now have 3 dachshunds and 3 before theses ones 4 of the have had allergies, mosty mild different breeder friends who have had multiple dachshunds have had similar experiences.
Great video, and nice that you didn't duck the problem side of owning one too! Very loving, loyal and fun dogs. I had two up to July last year, now just have one. It's the only breed of dog I can ever see myself owning now. Stunning little creatures!
Our big mini male, short haired roan colored is 12 years old going on 8 y/o. Fortunately we can go to a one acre grassed dog park that is mostly vacant because of it’s size. Drone aircraft and sometimes flown there. Smaller dog parks are available too. We also have a female chocolate 3 y/o lab. They are best buddies. Our dachshund can cover 100 yards at full run and he can easily out sprint me. Just amazing.
I don't know about these expert owners as I see they have no gray hairs. Seriously though, doxies are GREAT dogs and they have a LOT of personality. And once bitten by the dachshund bug, you're hooked for life.
Got my doxie when I was ten, and we didn't have that bond right away. And I know this because when I took her off the lead and she was scared she would run to the last safe place she saw. Whether it was my parents' car or a shop we passed, but this was obviously dangerous because she didn't give a damn about us calling her. But around 12 years old I started getting bullied a lot and spent more time with her. Taught her some things and got to know her properly. And soon she wasn't running to safe places anymore, she'd run to me instead. So honestly, I didn't teach her to off-lead, she just decided I was her safe place and she'd follow me anywhere. Be it up a mountain or into the ocean. This wasn't super safe either, but I took my job as safe place seriously and she never got hurt. She passed away June of 2019 when I was 22. 12 years wasn't enough, I still expect her to be right behind me and ready for any adventure.
We lost our last fur baby and didn’t know if we would ever feel like that again. We now have two mini vieners with German accent. Before you correct me I know it is still spelled with a w. They are now our babies and our fun. They are the greatest. I have really been doing my research so I do what is best for them.
I love all dogs, doesn't if it's small like a Dachshund, medium sized like an English Bulldog (I had one for almost 12 years), or big like a German Shepherd they're all so freaken cute and are extremely comical with their silly behaviors.
I have a Teckel (Dachshund). I go hunting with her. She is a very usefull hunting dog. She can search on blood trails and is very good at driven hunt. She brings me birds from water (up to ducks). I can go unleashed with her, if there are not too many cars. I have to say every command twice before she reacts ;) In Germany we have three sizes of Dachshund Standard-Dackel Zwerg-Dackel (Dwarf) Kaninchen-Dackel (Rabbit) The smallest (Kaninchen-Dackel) is for hunting rabbits. In Germany many Dachshunds are used for hunting. Very often just for driven hunts. They are slow and the animals like wild boars aren't really afraid of them, but annoyed. The wild boar walk away from the dachshunds and the hunters waiting for the slow boars. Hunting badgers not very often (very very dangerous), but for foxes. They drive or pull the foxes out of their holes.
Hi I bought a dachsand 15 days before now he is 50 days old very cute only one problem it is biting a lot is it normal and how should I stop that habit
Puppies bite a lot, but they will usually learn to control the strenght of their bite over time. It is a good Idea to let your puppy play with an older, confident dog. The older dog will teach the puppy where to draw the line. You must be careful in choosing a playmate, the owner must be confident in their dog and ok with a bit of rough play between them. Large and/or lively dogs can accidentaly hurt your little dachshund, so be careful with that. Dachshunds are stubborn dogs, and they are bred to be brave and independent rather than careful and obedient. This means you will have to do a lot of obedience training. You will have to work a bit to get your dog’s attention while training it. Dachshund’s really have a mind of their own, so don’t expect their undivided attention. Unfortunally, dachshunds can often develop aggressive behaviour, and they have a strong bite for their size. It is important to note that dachshund’s will respond to fear with aggression, and will often not back down from a fight with a much stronger opponent. The key is to let your dog build it’s confidence by socialising with other dogs and people in a non-threathening context. I suggest consulting an expert trainer if the biting becomes a problem.
we have a post on the talent hounds website from a great trainer on nipping- very importnat to stop it. Dont give attention and yelp seems to be two effective ways.
All puppies will 'mouth' their owners.....it's a play thing as well as establishing a 'rank' in the pack. They will try to see what they can get away with. Mouthing can be good bonding fun for both dog and owner, but you have to be very careful and not let it get too out of hand. If you think the dog has actually bitten, rather than 'mouth'...immediately 'yelp', as this is how another pup would react if play became too much. That's how they know they've gone too far. Also give the command NO at the same time. Make sure they also have lots of strong toys around to take their aggression out on too. Dachsies have very powerful mouths and my two could rip a tennis ball to shreds within minutes. Hopefully by now he will have calmed down a little and you have found a good routine and can control their behaviour. I would also recommend getting socialisation classes asap as these dogs can become very difficult to deal with around other dogs and small children. Anything they see as a threat really. But in the main, these dogs are so loyal and loving and fun. Hope you have a long life together with him.....and the one you will buy within the next 12 months. No one just has one! ;)
I had one he was my best friend .had to put him to sleep in 2018 I didn't go I can't wait ldnt handle the emotions I regret not saying goodbye and I miss him dearly I had him before hurricane Katrina .
Hi I have a one year old datshound and he always wants to bite at my toes when I walk. Also I hold him and he wants to bite me. I need help what am I to do
Google a local behavior class or trainer and call and ask. You can call your breeder or a humane society for suggestions on a local trainer or teacher. Start classes ASAP and be very diligent. Even try TH-cam training in the meantime. Good luck!
These dogs are smart and extremely difficult to train - very head strong and stubborn. Most Dachshund owners will admit their Doxies are only 95% potty trained. They can jump really high but that is hard on their backs. They will eat anything that they can get to. Ours got into a dish of brownies and had to have its stomach pumped as it was dark chocolate. That was $1000 hospital visit. Ours got into a pet proof rat poison container left by our pest control service and ate the rat bait. That was a multi-day $2500 hospital bill. The bee or wasp sting ours got was another $1000 hospital bill. So beware they are wonderful but so stubborn they can be very difficult and expensive to deal with. Probably pet vet insurance would be a wise investment.
Kilo the Pug hit the dark choclate brownies too and stomach pumped but luckily a little less. They can be tough to recall and potty train in my experience but not all are and may have been my training.

In Germany their breed is DACKEL i love the breed, after 15 years I just lost my love REXY and I have a really hard time to adjust to live without him. I am really looking for a mini. My Rexy was a dabble.
Check his eyes to see if they are grey, it could be early signs of glaucoma which happens a lot in young dachshund. Mine got it her last few years of her life and that was one of the signs. It’s best to check with a veterinarian even if it’s just nothing.💕

Oh really I so wanted to get chicken but thought my dachshund would probably just go for their throats as she has done to my huge surprise catching a flying duck and killed it in a second and she's 13!!
@@TalentHounds thanks man, It's all about repetition and positive reinforcement. I had to spend half my salary on food to get them to redirect their attention to me😂but it worked. They are both 11 now and walk offleash
I got my baby 6 months ago when she was 4 weeks old. The moms nipple got absest causing her to stop feeding her. The owner said they was eating wet food already so to go ahead and get them. How ever myself and my friend that got one as well noticed that wasn't infact the case and even with the puppy milk they seemed to strangle themselves trying to lap it up. So we went and got them puppy bottles, and they didn't want nothing to really do with them. In the end I used dropper. After about 3 weeks they did start eating on their own. What worries me now is that mine, and others in the litter have unbilical hernias. The vet is keeping an eye on it for now. However he said with so many having it in the litter that it was likely genetic and would likely be passed on so it would not be a good idea to bread her. Considering I got her for a companion and not for breeding this is not an issue for me or my friend. Although I would have liked for her to have had one litter before getting her fixed. They say it makes them more content in the long run and that dogs can grieve not ever having one as well as makes them more temperamental. I know my great dane went through the grievance and would even go through false pregnancies producing milk and everything, but was never ill tempered. I never let her bread. Most Great Danes only live 6 to 8 years, at 14 year she was the only living out of her litter and I made the choice to put her down because she was in a lot of pain in her hips and back and could no longer even get up on her own. I guess I went from one extreme to the other by getting a dachshound next. But she is so awsome. I originally payed for one of the boys, but when I went to pick him up, she came running right to me wanting to play and be loved on, then snuggled right on me and went to sleep while the little boy took to my bestfriend. So she paid me for him and I turned around and paid for my Dixie. So she pretty much choose me and has been a blessing. I am curious of anyone else's thoughts or experiences on letting her have a litter before getting her fixed.
I would ask your vet about breeding. I have heard it is no longer recommended but I am not a vet - there is apprently not evidence to support that it will calm down a dog or that they may grieve. Probably not worth the risk.
The last, 3 weeks my Izzy acts like she's mad at me. She follows me like always. She goes n sleep on couch instead of kitchen rug. I'm redoing the bathroom She would sit on on the bed n face the wall. She'll sleep with me part of time n goes to her room. Does that sound like depression
We call my moms 2 dachshunds miniature he’ll hounds. They are so mean. Which is surprising cause they were trained well and have always been shown love and have never been mistreated. But they are horrible.
Loving dogs but very disobedient! He is 6 months old , inside dog trained to use potty training pads. Today he got on my bed not once but twice and pooped on it. Super confused and annoyed as to why he would that. This is my first dog and I regret not researching more about their breed.
I have a10 month dapple. After 9 month with us he started to try to make love to anything or everything, I feel ashame with my visitors, friends and family. Advice me
Dachsens come in 3 sizes , standard - mini - kaninchen. We always say A dog has A owner A dachsen has staff . They will tell you what they want and what not and when 😂 they are little clowns with their humor but also not the easiest dogs to own especially if you are A first time dog owner. People should realise that. And Please buy your dog from A lisenced breeder, or adopt. There are so many dog breeders out there who only breed for the money and don’t care about the dogs health. Our first dachs (adopted) went blind before he was 3 just because his parents both had A eye disease wich causes blindness and they should have never been put together to have puppies. A lisenced dog breeder knows this that if A dachs has this kind of eye disease they can never breed . And they are monitored and have to take their dogs for A health check before they are allowed to breed them.

Uhm my winner would be off a leash all the time. She listen to me. We would let her go out in the front yard and come back after she did here morning walk and bathroom. There was no fence at all. Walking to my friends house she would fallow me everywhere without a leash.
How wonderful- what a great dog. I know some well trained dogs that can go off leash too but apparently there are many more that are safer kept on a leash (like pugs). Here it is a city law to keep dogs on leash out on the street too.
My weiner stays on a leash when we go on a walk! He runs after our neighbors ducks and chickens he zones out on trying to catch other animals and will not listen when I call him. But regardless, he’s the best dog ever!! I love walking and hiking so when I was looking for a dog I knew I needed a dog that I could keep up with their lifestyle and they with mine. I’m ready to add another weiner baby to our family! 💛
yeah my weenie comes out front with me and never has a problem. We also take her on walks around the neighborhood without a leash (we obviously still carry a leash with us), but the reason she's so reasonable is because she's too scared to get too far from us.
@@jevinday we trusted her and she listened to us. We would put her in the back yard when we gone longer than 4 hours. She would dig under the fence and wait in the fron near the garage until we got back. She would be basking in the sun lookimg for us.

Such a beautiful story about this amazing dogs.Yes,I agree it not easy to be owner of dogs.
But always worth every minute, because God can send Angels in many forms
Thank you for your story.
How come you texted all this being blind?🤔🤔
Parth Mishra voice texting. You should give it a try. Also I’m not completely blind. I do have some vision left. More blind people have at least a small portion of sight. It’s rarer to be totally blind. Totally blind people are usually those who were born blind. More often blind people have a degenerative eye disease, like me.
@@HeatherSaltas okay... Well I didn't meant to hurt you though... I asked it out of curiosity... Sorry if it sounded offensive 😇
Parth Mishra thank you. I’m sorry o took it that way. I get a lot of messages of people challenging the fact that I’m blind. It’s just ignorance. But thank you, I hope you have a wonderful day. 💜
Wonderfully informative and hugely charming.
I wish you rainbows.
We just got Chips, rescued through Happy Tails Dachshund Rescue. We love him and he looks a bit like your Gretel chocolate, brown, and silver dapple, hence the name he came with and we kept, Chips.
How wonderful. All the best with Chips!
Sounds a lot like Kilo the Pug - I have heard similar about other Dachshunds - just need patience, consistent training and treats.
Ive now have 3 dachshunds and 3 before theses ones 4 of the have had allergies, mosty mild different breeder friends who have had multiple dachshunds have had similar experiences.
The best friend you could ask for.
Great video, and nice that you didn't duck the problem side of owning one too! Very loving, loyal and fun dogs. I had two up to July last year, now just have one. It's the only breed of dog I can ever see myself owning now. Stunning little creatures!
Yep XS
She sounds amazing- I am so glad you bonded and shared lots of adventures. I am so sorry for your loss.
@@TalentHounds Thank you for the sentiment, she really was amazing. I miss her every day.
We lost our last fur baby and didn’t know if we would ever feel like that again. We now have two mini vieners with German accent. Before you correct me I know it is still spelled with a w. They are now our babies and our fun. They are the greatest. I have really been doing my research so I do what is best for them.
😍So happy to hear you have 2 beautiful babies.
I love all dogs, doesn't if it's small like a Dachshund, medium sized like an English Bulldog (I had one for almost 12 years), or big like a German Shepherd they're all so freaken cute and are extremely comical with their silly behaviors.
yep me too
My weenie dog is literally my best friend.
I hv
The dachshands there is super cute😄
I just lost my second doxie yesterday. He was 15. His name was rascal. He was so very smart.
I just got my new 8 wk old puppy. His name is Baxter , my only issue with him is the bitting. How do I get him to stop ?
Pretty much right on the money! Well done!
How can you eat without feeding them?
I want to know what about hair fall compare to Labrador, secondly any big health issues again like Labrador.
I love my Weiner Rico white/chocolate. Best little creature to come in my life!
😍😍
I have a Teckel (Dachshund). I go hunting with her. She is a very usefull hunting dog. She can search on blood trails and is very good at driven hunt. She brings me birds from water (up to ducks). I can go unleashed with her, if there are not too many cars. I have to say every command twice before she reacts ;)
In Germany we have three sizes of Dachshund
Standard-Dackel
Zwerg-Dackel (Dwarf)
Kaninchen-Dackel (Rabbit)
The smallest (Kaninchen-Dackel) is for hunting rabbits.
Where is the best place to get a dachshund
There's so many dachshunds I follow on youtube and instagram :) They're just awesome!
Agreed- me too.

Hi I bought a dachsand 15 days before now he is 50 days old very cute only one problem it is biting a lot is it normal and how should I stop that habit
Some puppies bite a lot, especially while teething. When the dog starts biting, tell him "no!" and if he listens then give him a treat.
No one just has one! ;)
I had one he was my best friend .had to put him to sleep in 2018 I didn't go I can't wait ldnt handle the emotions I regret not saying goodbye and I miss him dearly I had him before hurricane Katrina .
oh my word its all true,we are on our 2nd dashie and she is the love of our life.how do you keep the ears clean tho?
Maybe have your vet show you a good technique.
Good luck!
I give mine a toy if they want to bite and redirect or I ignore - usually they want to play. Are you playing with them and walking planty?
picking up my mini on tuesday!!! my best friend :D
They come in 3 recognized sizes: standard, tweenie, and mini
Is it a good family dog??

Dachshunds and my smile go on 4 mile hikes
I have two mini dappell dachshunds. One is black and white, named Peanut, and the other is brown and white, named Buttercup. I also have a mini Australian Shepherd named Jack. Buttercup thinks she is the pack leader even though she is the smallest dog. 🐕
I had 3 dachshunds and I miss them so much 😔😔. I never had privacy and I miss having no privacy.
Best most loyal loving little dogs ion this earth
In Germany their breed is DACKEL i love the breed, after 15 years I just lost my love REXY and I have a really hard time to adjust to live without him.
I am really looking for a mini. My Rexy was a dabble.
so sorry for your loss. I hope you find a mini.
I found a puppy a piebald I named him WALDI he is not a replacement for my Rexy but he brings a lot of joy to my life, he is now 10 weeks old .
I hve duchshund he is 13 week old nd he has less hair on back side what is this problem
Check his eyes to see if they are grey, it could be early signs of glaucoma which happens a lot in young dachshund. Mine got it her last few years of her life and that was one of the signs. It’s best to check with a veterinarian even if it’s just nothing.💕
Where can I get one?? I can never find any!!
Friends have found them through rescues.
Funny thing about my Dachshund is shes part Cocker Spaniel. A tall dachshund is really weird to me. 😂
Are dachshunds easy to train ?
And one of the biggest trade marks of this breed is their bark, how do you train them to not bark alot?

Lovely
I have a paraplegic dachshund and he's the best!
Portable? Not mine 😄
I like this hund lol..
In Germany it is a DACKEL,and they are a joy to own, they are very independent and think they will be a Rottweiler when they grow up,
So true thanks!
Mine are excellent guard dogs. They’re personable with kids and looks after my chickens. Very easy to train and are loyal beyond expectation. They’ll bark at anything that isn’t familiar. Absolutely, get a dachshund.

Oh really I so wanted to get chicken but thought my dachshund would probably just go for their throats as she has done to my huge surprise catching a flying duck and killed it in a second and she's 13!!
I take my 16yr old doxie out for a walk every day unless it's rainy, she wants to just sleeps.
do they make good friends with bigger dogs
depends on the dog and if well socialized
I beg to differ.
My dachshunds walks off leash.
They were trained from puppyhood to walk offleash.
I love hearing about good early training for any puppy. Well done.
I'm redoing the bathroom
She would sit on on the bed n face the wall. She'll sleep with me part of time n goes to her room. Does that sound like depression
Maybe upset by strangers and redoing the bathroom?
You should let your vet know, in order to rule out a medical problem.
We call my moms 2 dachshunds miniature he’ll hounds. They are so mean. Which is surprising cause they were trained well and have always been shown love and have never been mistreated. But they are horrible.
Sorry to hear that. Every dog is different. Maybe they are jealous of you and guarding your Mom.
Loving dogs but very disobedient! He is 6 months old , inside dog trained to use potty training pads. Today he got on my bed not once but twice and pooped on it. Super confused and annoyed as to why he would that. This is my first dog and I regret not researching more about their breed.
They need a lot of patience and training but usually well worth it. I hope he has improved his toilet behaviour. Sometimes it takes a year+.
Much better in pairs, we adopted a mother and daughter. The only dog we will ever have
I have heard that 😍
In Germany they are called Dackels
I have a10 month dapple. After 9 month with us he started to try to make love to anything or everything, I feel ashame with my visitors, friends and family. Advice me
Mine is never been stubborn!!!

They also get Cushing congestive heart failure with leaking heart valve
Lets see..my mini wirehaired is smarter than some humans..he is untrainable..he barks at anything & everything..and he is my dog. After my wife he is my best friend. I love my little guy to bits
They are the best. Love my little guy too.
They have such warm eyes!! #rowl4nd9959
my Izzy likes to go 4 rides. She don''t like the back. She wants 2 sit on console or right Next 2 me. Trust me not enuf room. 4 both of us. When we go out of town, about hr. Everytime a stopped she was bound t determined Shes gonna. She gets potty N short walk. I'd let her out at home. She takes her own walks. Barks at the neighbors n she sees them everyday
Aww Izzy sounds fun - they are such personalities aren't they. XS
Unless you have never had a dachshund own you you have never been treated as a best friend they are not an average puppy dog
My best friend owns several Dachshunds and he's under the impression that they don't need to be walked! Makes me mad.
2:25 thats what im sayin..🥴🤪
I ain't doing it lol...
We have a full black Dachshund but shes no weiner.. she has long legs lol
